PoliticsRe: Lagos Prohibits Smoking In Public – Law Now In Effect by davidif: 1:02pm On Aug 19, 2014
yehmi01: The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) back in February 2014, signed into law a private bill, which outlawed smoking in public places in the state.

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) have now made it clear that with effect from Sunday,17 August, 2014, it will be a punishable offence to be cought smoking in a public place.

”The penalties for first offenders include N10, 000 fine and one to three months imprisonment. Repeat offenders may be fined up to N50, 000 or get up to six months imprisonment.

Smokers, who smoke in the presence of a minor or anyone below the age of 18 years risks a fine of N15,000 or six months imprisonment.

According to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Ade Ipaye said: “The Lagos State Government, in assenting to the bills, take cognisance of the dangers posed by public smoking to members of the public who are not smokers”.

“The law prohibits smoking in all of those areas that have been designated as non-smoking areas, including museums, public toilets, libraries, nurseries, day care centres and any facility used for the care of infants.

“Public telephone kiosks, public transportation vehicles, private vehicles where there are more than one person, school buses, restaurants and cinemas, theatres, amusement parks or any other place used by members of the public, conference centres and exhibition halls. Factories and other premises in which more than one person works and areas used as places of work, including the secretariat, are all defined in the law as public places”.

Chai!!! Na wa for this man. He copies almost everything from the Western world without filtering anything yet Nigerians call him progressive.
Some while back, I heard that he created a law to ban teachers from flogging kids in school and I was really surprised. He doesn't seem to encourage rigorous debate and feedback from the people he governs, he just passes any law he feels like without really trying to gauge it's impact on its citizenry (at least that's my perception).

RomanceRe: Ladies : "Can You Stay Faithfull To Just One Man All Your Life". by davidif:
dmcdad: And you think it's that easy to drop all those when you get married? It doesn't work that way. If you can't start it now, don't think you will be able to start it then, or hold up to being faithful.

Certain characters and traits are very hard to go by just like that. Especially when its become embedded in your blood. It's not easy to be faithful. And for one to live a life of unfaithfulness towards its partners, it's gonna be hard to come out of it. It will take special graces and commitments to not go back to such.

You may not agree with me. That's fine. But the truth remains the same.
Excellent post! Some people think that they can just turn it on or off when they are ready. What a naive notion.

xp17: why all these brouhahas about friend zone shitty? personally, I don't see any problem with it though. too bad we now live in a me! me!! me!!! world, where everyone need something for nothing or something for something.

many have failed to understand the importance of unconditional likeness for/from the opposite sex, it may help build your discipline and confidence. personally, I learn more when conversing with a lady with no string attach (nsa) , because most of our convo would be education related, unlike when you spend (waste) all day arguing sport, politics, and enumerating the number of women you have laid with a fellow guy.

I'll end here for now, because I kinda busy right now.
My friend, you are soooooo on point. It's just plain selfishness mayne.
People need to understand that not everybody you meet in life is for dating. It doesn't matter whether they are attracted to you or you are attracted to them, not everybody you meet is who you are supposed to be with.
Some people just need to grow up and realize that it's not all about you or that the world does not revolve around them.

Ksslib: 4. Eating while walking on a busy road. Even we guys sometimes find it somehow to eat while walking on a busy road save for when the hunger is threatening to send us into ghostmode, still at that there's this swagga we associate it with tongue.

But girls, pls and pls, even if the hunger wan kill you, drink pure water . Ok just picture a babe seriously eating doughnut or egg roll while cat walking on a busy road. Epic faaaail.
But the good news is, if you worwor, feel free, you have nothing to loose. Keep adding to your problems.

Bottom line: There are few sustaining liquids/snacks you can grab when the hunger strikes impromptu. But boiled corn, akara, sugar cane, mango huh e..t..c is a No no!!

TV/MoviesRe: Nollywood Nightmare At Durban Int Film Fest by davidif: 7:32pm On Aug 16, 2014
safarigirl: if you know the amount of people in America that are into movie production, you won't ask me that unforgivably d.umb question.

What I just did was pick out all the nonsensical one-storyline movies in Hollywood, just like you Nollywood haters only pick out the bad movies.

We can go on and on about this. Cuz Hollywood has shitty movies just like Nollywood, that you don't see them doesn't mean they don't exist. They surely won't show you all their low budget movies, only the big budget ones.

Now tell me, how many big budget movies do we have? The market I'd flooded with low busget movies, even movies we classify high budget movies aren't even close to middle budget in Hollywood.

Did you invest in Nollywood and they gave you crap? All you self-loathing lot know how to do is criticise, no form of meaningful contribution, just mindless citicisms.

Give them the nomey you give Hollywood and see if they won't do better. You want good movies when you can't sacrifice 1,500 to watch cinema productions, you all need to start being realistic or shut the f?ck up.

And next time you want to quote me, space your rant well, don't expect me to read your jammed epistle
Is this your rebuttal? what a poor one. Instead of addressing my points, you go on a tangent and resort to personally attacking me (typical of Nigerians). You people just seem to find it hard at times to have civil discourse because you have to resort to insults and shouting people down in other to win arguements.
I am done with this.
TV/MoviesRe: Nollywood Nightmare At Durban Int Film Fest by davidif: 5:44pm On Aug 16, 2014
safarigirl: have you watched Uche Jombo's Damaged: The trilogy?

When you watch that movie, come back and say this, if you haven't, you have no right to say this. I've told all of you to stop following Aba boys and Africa Magic, you haven't watched ONE quality Nollywood movie cuz you refuse to spend.

If you've watched any tell me. I know your likes love to shoot the movie down once it's out. I know the way you lot think "It's going to be crap anyway, no need watching it"

The last time you watched a Nollywood movie was probably in 2008 (I don't mean one from Africa Magic) prove me wrong and tell me any recent movie you've watched. Anything from Kunle Afolayan? Emem Isong? Have you watched Maami? Have you watched Figurine?

You say we don't tell quality stories? Go and watch Maami and tell me if that isn't quality.

Me, I'm tired of watching Hollywood and their repeated storylines. Same old movie, just different names:

Star Wars has been divided into Matrix, Guardians Of the Galaxy, After Earth, Avatar.

World War Z, I Robot, M.I.B- same thing

Twilight, Vampire Diaries, True Blood- same thing

Game of Thrones, Troy, Gladiator, Spartacus- same thing

Hercules (the many versions), Conan The Barbarian (the many versions), The Scorpion King- same thing

James Bond (the many versions), The Bourne Identity (and all the other Bournes), Blade, Mission Impossible- ALL the SAME thing

I know what You Did Last Summer, Friday the 13th, The House on The Haunted Hill, Scream- same thing

Legally Blonde, He's just not that into you- same thing

SpiderMan, IronMan, SuperMan, XMen- same old shi...just a different name

The Notebook, Dear John, The Lakehouse- same thing

....But some people say Nollywood has the same storyline. We must have learnt from Hollywood
Hahaha, what a flawed and biased argument? You cherry pick from a very small sample size what in your Opinion are the best nollywood movies movies and you want to use that to say that Nollywood is really good. Typical of naija people in an argument, they try to use outliers to win arguments by pretending that they are the norm. Stop pretending that those so called "Aba movies" or "Africa Magic" are not the norm or try to sweep them under the rug. It's like saying that Nigeria is a rich country based on some of the few elites who show off their wealth and live in opulence.

Also, to continue to show you how poor and very one sided your arguement is, you said you were tired of Hollywood recycling the same thing over and again (oh, the irony) then you go on to mention the different movies as examples. Well, lady, those are what you call genres so they are going to have similar themes.
In case you didn't know what a genre was, let me give you an example of the types of genres, there is romance, science fiction, horror, Action and under this genres you have other sub genres like the war movies, epic movies, romantic comedies, the spy genres, super hero genre etc.
So you have all this varieties to chose from as opposed to your nollywood movies where there is very little variation. A Nollywood fan should be the last person criticizing other people for lack of originality.
RomanceRe: Anyone In Miami Fl? by davidif: 3:48am On Aug 16, 2014
ohwell: I went to school in Tampa, FL and we used to go to Miami and Orlando all the time. You would love Miami if u like d sun, beautiful palms, lakes and the ocean/beaches. And yea miami is also known for beautiful women too hahaha. Florida is cheaper to live in general, compared to DC, but I think d salaries r less too compared to DC so u would have to see for urself. Guess check apartmentguide/realtors to see housing cost and d rest is pretty much d same nationwide.

Cheers
I heard that things are expensive there and that the overall experience is overrated. Is it true?

arsetalks: Most sensible thing is for CAF to reschedule the game and compel Nigeria to play on a neutral ground. It is not our fault that we have the deadly disease in this country ( well partially our fault when you consider how much time we had to take action ) but neither is it Lesotho's fault as well. We will beat them but let's do it fair.

Please don't look at Nigeria from a European point of view. Different parameters amigo. There is a reason why we are a "top down" country, decision making is centralized for a reason.
