CelebritiesRe: Arrest Nollywood Stars With Fake British Accent - Ramsey Nouah by davidif: 3:58pm On Aug 07, 2014
Agybabe: Okay, don't mind my crazyy way of writting.

I was just trying to describe what transpired at a park and in a bus when and while I was travelling to Calabar last Monday.

A lady was using fake British accent throughout the journey to communicate to the driver and with someone who called her on phone.

When she speaks, you find faults in the pronounciation, manner and etc.

Just then, she made a mistake, I sneezed in mockery, some people in the bus who understood why I sneezed, joined me to make further mockery of her fake accents by telling me "sorry" and "bless me".

Later, I saw a guy updating on facebook about the fake accent and the sneezing which took place in the bus.

Hope this is clear enough?
Oh, nice one. Thanks for taking the time to explain it to me.

Agybabe: Una never see anything.

The grammer wey one geh knack on Monday for the car park wey I go ehn! I wept in spanish! cheesy

It was so fake and incorrect. People were just feigning attention to her as she was addressing the driver, we were all shaking our heads, hissing and observing the drama. cool

When the bus eventually set on the road. This geh phone rang and while she was still answering the caller, I SNEEZED! grin

Attention was drawn to me because almost every naughty minds in the bus knew what caused me to sneeze. tongue

Of course, most sharp people chorus "sorry" and "bless you" in unison. cheesy

Few seconds later, I caught one guy updating about the "grammer and sneezing drammer" on Facebook.

There ris God o.
Abeg, can you explain what you jut wrote properly?

makeitplain: If anyone speaks a foreign accent (american or british) very well, it shouldn't be a problem at all. If u have a problem with a Nigerian like u who has good spoken English, it must be that u are just jealous of that person.

However, I am not exonerating those Nigerians who speak irritating accent as putative British or American accent. We need to clarify that, I hate those too. But I hate those with bad Nigerian accent who are quick to castigate other Nigerians with better English accent as though they are hating their country just for speaking English the best way they possibly can.

Those who live abroad, most especially North America (US&Canada) know very well that u are at a significant advantage if u are able to speak English minimizing your African accent as mush as possible.

I just want anyone who is committed to speaking an improved accent by learning and understudying the native speakers not to be discouraged by some discouraging comments here cos it can be of good benefit for u somewhere abroad and in future.

Konjour: When did studying in the UK or the US become an excuse for speaking deceptively?

Why do we all have to speak like Britons and Americans?

Why haven't people who studied in Prague, Amsterdam, Paris, Dublin, Edinburgh copied the

accents of the Czechs, Dutch, French, Irish, and Scots?

I've never heard Glaswegians speak like the English, some scots don't even understand any

language other than Gaelic, neither can some spell their names correctly in English.

Never understood the obsession with fake accents. It won't increase your bank balance.

It sure won't increase 'your rep'. It won't save from Ebola either.

My elder brother's mother-in-law has lived in Baltimore for well over 2 decades but I do have to

listen attentively to her sometimes cuz her Yoruba is even more traditional than my mum's.

Be proud of where you come from. If you have to speak English, speak concisely and clearly.

Its pointless to speak in a way that the folks around you won't understand, unless you're a spy.
Ori e pe jare. I wish I could give you as many likes as I could.

first of all, we africans were almost on par with the europeans in terms of organisation and development.
then we got enslaved for centuries and the productive youth that would have developed us further were taken over there to work on their fields and provide food for them while their mind was freed up to advance more without worry.

GenBuhari: Oh only now we are starting to get upset?

We better wake up fast.

I have been saying for so long that the whole Ebola hysteria is being deliberately generated by the white man to disadvantage and us in some way.

I predicted that we may be denied visas.

They may even degrade our trade with the rest of the world (and stupidly ) we may be panicked into breaking trading relationships with other African countries.

Some perspective:

Rabies is more deadly than Ebola!

Influenza is more contagious than Ebola!

Upto 500,000 die annually from Influenza.

Why are there no hysteria from BBC and CNN about Rabies and Influenza?

Make una shine your eyes well well.

evegran: It is disappointing having Donald suggest this. I mean it is the US, they can hardly ever go wrong with testing visitors from other countries (specifically-West Africa) for the virus before allowing them into the US. I get the Drs are also at risk, but even the Drs can prepare themselves properly for this exercise. Stopping flights from West Africa is simply unnecessary, he's being dramatic now-probably nursing future political plans even. I doubt the US government will agree to his suggestion tho.
What is exactly disappointing about what he said? Since when did being proactive become wrong? Please enlighten me.

RomanceRe: Why Are Men No Longer Pursuing Women? by davidif: 3:09am On Aug 02, 2014
ChopUrMoni: Have you ever played hide and seek? If you have, then you know that once the person has been found by the finder its not the end of the game. The person found must run and the finder would have to pursue until they have caught them. Then and only then is the the game over.

I have noticed a trend among a lot of men. They have become so lazy that they do not bother chasing the girl they love. The saying "ah... its just a girl, they are many more out there" and "she's playing hard to get, i cant be bothered and she's not the only beautiful girl out there anyway" have become so popular among men especially black men.

What happened to the value of chasing a woman? Why has it become so worthless and looked down upon. Would men of today have survived many years ago. Men in those days didn't complain when they pursued the girl they loved, in many cases suffered in the hands of the girls family and then paid a massive amount to have her as his wife. Today it's a lot easier yet men are not willing or should I say are too lazy to pursue the woman of their dreams. Oh i forgot... there are too many fishes in sea. Why bother right?

Men, we love to be pursued and conquered by you. Why do you all think the stories of Cinderella, Snow white, Rapunzel and the like are so loved by girls? They all had one thing in common. A prince who not only found them but also fought for them. Trust me we love to be chased and caught by you.

If you are not serious with the girl then don't bother. But, if you do love her don't allow you friends to push you to get over her after she has rejected you twice. Try a little harder than twicesmiley. I noticed white guys have always chased me fervently. But when it comes to black men, even though they profess to loving me so deeply they don't bother if i don't respond to them after a specific time. If any race of man on earth should know how to pursue a woman fervently until he captures her it should be a black man because thats what you fathers and grand fathers did. It's in your DNA smiley So now, what are you waiting for? Get started!
Pursue ke?? Are there not many options out there? Don't girls usually say "no means no". See confusion na?
Why would a guy risk being rejected and humiliated when he has so many other choices out there?

Davidgprs: 7. You can’t find your way around without GPS.

People who rely on GPS to get around have less activity in the hippocampus, an area of the brain involved in both memory and navigation, according to a series of studies presented in 2010. Using spatial memory -- which involves using visual cues to develop "cognitive maps" that remember routes -- instead of operating on GPS-induced autopilot can help avert memory problems later in life, the studies found.

A 2008 study from the University of London even found that taxi drivers had more developed hippocampi than non-taxi drivers -- perhaps because they are so accustomed to navigating cities using spatial memory, rather than relying on GPS (though that may no longer be true of smartphone-equipped taxi drivers).
Man, i observed this some while ago.

Eldavido1: Nigeria is more interested in developing it's manufacturing and agricultural base. Those are the main drivers of nigeria's economic growth not oil. So the can overtake as long as we keep diversifying our economy it's all good. Few years from now oil may not be a dominant factor in world economy due to the discovery of shale gas.

Music/RadioRe: 2face's "The Ascension" Is Currently The 12th Top Selling Album In The World by davidif: 12:22am On Aug 01, 2014
Chuckdee: "A little misleading...it's No. 12 on the "World Music Charts". This doesn't mean it's the Top 12th selling album in the world. When Billboard say "World Music", they mean "International Music", which means non-western traditional music (e.g. afrobeat music, etc), not a chart for all the albums in the world. Basically, it's a chart exclusively for non-western music albums"

There you go! this will help you wrap it off your head and believe me, you aint being jealous but rather reasonable.. People post a lot of junk on nairaland!

Idibia's 6 studio album, 'The Ascension', has

@OP,
Please don't deceive this people. Is it the top selling album or the top selling world music album? This are very different categories.
FamilyRe: His 5 Years Old Son Wrote In His Play Book "I Don't Like My Mum And Dad" by davidif: 10:13pm On Jul 31, 2014
iwonbaoko: Funny psychobabble. This is what happens when kids have all their needs met and are encouraged to feel entitled about it.I don't bring kids into the world to like me or to be my friends. They are part of something called humanity and their duty is to contribute materially, intellectually and genetically. My duty is to prepare them for their duty. This whole business of "quality time and showing affection" is a post modern indulgence by people who do not understand anthropology ,their own society and are modelling their lives on western illusions.
We see them all the time; their parents bring them over from Nigeria every year on holiday and at a very young age they have already learnt to compare ; sneering at those who travel economy class or don't live in Lekki etc. Nasty individuals many of them and often lacking the basic etiquette that one expects from Nigerian kids. They cannot speak Nigerian languages and their English is often embarassing considering many attend schools costing millions yearly at primary level and yes many of them don't like their parents!!
Yes kids should be well nourished and kept safe and should be encouraged to have self esteem but there must be structure and boundaries. Parents should not be "needy" of their children's love or approval or get into any kind of emotional bargaining for this. They are CHILDREN.
I grew up with a friend who loved and was "loved" by his parents one of whom was a Minister. Their love meant he never lacked but he had no drive or hunger. At the time I thought I hated my father because he made us take public buses and he NEVER one day "dash" me money. Now I love him more than ever. Sadly my friend is an underachiever considering his very lofty background. Recently I visited their house which he inherited. Used to be a mansion but now it is a derelict wreck housing miscreants and he is a very bitter man. What is most important is that parent TALK to their children regularly so that when they are old it is not difficult to communicate. All this I HATE MY MOM stuff is rubbish.
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!! I FEEL LIKE I SHOULD GIVE YOU A 1,000,000 LIKES FOR THIS.

Finally, a Nigerian who gets it. All this new age Nigerians who are soooooooooo quick to adopt Western parenting are going to be reaping the fruits in future but by then it would be too late.

I remember reading about a British parent who was dissappointed in his children as adults and he blamed it on himself for adopting the new parenting fad that was in vogue when he was raising them.

Too bad Nigerians don't know how to filter things that come into there culture, they just accept it wholeheartedly as "enlightenment" or "knowledge" or worst of all being "modern". Absolute Rubbish.

If you guys like, keep letting Dr. Phil, Oprah, and other forms of western media tell you how to raise your kids, wait and see the results. You reap what you sow.

Once again, EXCELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLENT POST brah.
