For those watching on ESPN:

Did the commentator just say that some of the N. Korean players had never seen a cell phone?
Yep! don't you know that North Korea is an isolated country?

chamotex:
It's history to them.
Do you know the next time his country will ever play against Brazil again not to even talk of World Cup.
We need passion abeg.
shayyyyy, it might be a once in a lifetime event for them? The exploits of the legendary team of 1966 is still very much praised in North Korea. Let's hope he doesn't make any mistakes, there "dear leader", kim jong il might have them executed. I even heard that the games would not be broadcasted in North Korea so that in case they lose, they wouldn't see it on TV.

Akwasi,
JESUS SAID THAT IF YOUR EYES CAUSES YOU TO SIN, CUT IT OFF BECAUSE ITS BETTER FOR YOU TO ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN WITHOUT EYES THAN TO GO TO HELL WITH BOTH YOUR EYES. WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT YOU SHOULD TAKE EXTREME MEASURES. IF THE GIRL IS GOING TO CAUSE YOU TO SIN AGAINST YOUR WIFE, THEN SHE MUST GO. YOU DON'T NEED TO EXPLAIN YOURSELF TO HER AFTERALL, YOU ARE HER BOSS. SINCE THERE IS NOBODY LEFT AT HOME, YOU DON'T NEED HER SERVICES ANY LONGER. ALSO, PRAY A LOTTTTTTTT!

DON'T LISTEN TO ALL THIS PEOPLE TALKING NONSENSE ABOUT IF YOU LOVE YOUR WIFE, THEN YOU WOULDN'T CHEAT. THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT IT TAKES THE GRACE OF GOD NOT TO CHEAT AND THAT WE ALL HAVE WEAKNESSES DESPITE THE FACT THAT WE DON'T ADMIT IT.

Are you really comparing Africa to Europe? Europe has had CENTURIES to acquire wealth and power. Sub-Saharan Africa has just been opened up for investment and trade within the past 50-60 years; you can't expect much to have occurred in such a short time. In the case of Israel, they've been receiving billions upon billions of yearly no-strings-attached aid for decades; do you really think they're a good example of what a country can accomplish on their own merits?
Travellista
Typical African looking for excuses, look at Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, the UAE? didn't this countries develop overnight? please no more excuses.

EzeUche,
I agree with both of you, cheap labor is why china developed but unlike we can't practice pure capitalism or else the rich will keep getting richer while the poor will keep getting poorer. We need to create labor laws and good working conditions and also we need a good justice system that can protect each citizen no matter the economic class. In other words, the poor have to be able to sue the "big men" and that includes the govt. if they feel that they are not being given equal treatment.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THE JAPANESE WON THIS GAME!!! shocked shocked shocked shocked EXCELLENT GAME BY THE JAPANESE, WISH THEM WELL THROUGHOUT THE TOURNAMENT.

WHAT AN AWFUL, AWFUL COACH PAUL LE GUEN IS.
SportsRe: World Cup 2010: Japan Vs Cameroun [1 - 0] On Monday June 14th 2010 by davidif: 9:26am On Jun 15, 2010
marutimon:
I would really blame the coach for how badly Cameroon played:

PAUL LE GUEN'S 'S GUIDE
HOW TO LOSE A GAME AS CAMEROON'S COACH WITH JAPAN IN AFRICA:

1. Bench Africa's best keeper, who can pull off the spectacular save. Replace him with a keeper who managed to let in 4 cheap goals (a cheap penalty inclusive) in your previous friendly.

2. Try out 10 variations of your defensive line - inclusive of testing 10 players in your right back position - and than play a new one when the world cup starts. All because your most trusted and creative right back made one very silly mistake in one game.

3. Play three defensive/holding midfielders with the most offensive of them (Makoun) played the deepest.

4. While playing three defensive midfielders have your best defensive midfielder sit out the whole match on the bench.

5. Play a 18 year old defender with 2 caps (Joel Matip) as your creative midfielder, whilst you have at least two quality attacking midfielders to choose from on the bench.

6. Play with absolutely no creative midfielders. Especially your star creative midfielder (Emana).

7. Play your star striker as a right winger.

8. Knowing you are extremely low on quality in the attack department (apart from your star striker) play three strikers.

9. When 1:0 down at the break after a terrible half by your team against a side you are expected to win with wait until the 60th minute to make a substitute. Then wait until the 75 minute to 'change the game'.

10. Wait until the 85th minute to tell your players to shoot from distance.

Did I miss anything?
Wow shocked shocked i thought Paul le Guen was a good coach, what a way to prove me wrong.

dayokanu:
Mikel has played 3 nations cup how did he perform against th top African teams we met in those tournaments

Mind you all these teams combined are still inferior to Argentina
Yes, its because he didn't have a coach who knew how to properly utilize him effectively. If you are a coach, you should know the strengths and weaknesses of your players and create the best possible enviroment or situation for them to succeed. Also, in case you didn't know, football is not all about dribbling 10 players and scoring goals, its the things that you do that the ordinary fans don't see that counts like running off the ball, positioning, pin point passing, holding on to possession of the ball and generally reading the game very well

Nigerians are just too incorrigible. Who has compared Ghana to Nigeria on this thread? apart from the guy who thinks size matters in economic development. Canada is only 32mil and has one of world's top economies. Don't get the idea of this thread wrong. It's not about comparing Ghana with Nigeria, it's about economic situations in West Africa. Some loons just want to sound intelligent by saying what they think is intelligent but saying peanut butter when dodging bullets doesn't make you intelligent does it? I'll advice you take critical thinking course in school that way you will know how not to betray an author's intention when analyzing his or her arguments. You don't sound intelligent at all, you sound stoopid to me. If you don't know the intention of an author, you shouldn't make any conclusion. All you have to do is ask. Dumb nuts Just read and talk about policies that betrayed Ghana's economies instead pointing accusing fingers.
Its amazing how people think that size have anything to do with development. What of the netherlands and the other European countries with there tiny populations, are they not developed countries? Just look at israel with a population of around 7.5 million, are they not also developed?
Foreign AffairsRe: Ghana Has One Of The Worst Economies In The World. (forbes List) by davidif: 6:17am On Jun 14, 2010
FOR THOSE OF YOU READING. THIS IS WHY PROTECTIONISM IS BAD.

All of you who know nothing about economics and who always say no to foreign companies or that we should "support our own" at the expense of foreign investment, well this is what happens. Ghana better open up its market as soon as possible and enough of this protectionism nonsense. This is one of the reasons i can't stand politicians who pander to popular sentiments at the expense of good economic policies.

Like someone said earlier, i too am very dissappointed in Ghana, i thought they were Africa's biggest hope, now it seems they are not. Boy, its amazing how awful Africa is.

Wealth distribution. . . .

^^^^^^^^

Resource poor Western Nigeria?

Ghana is more like Eastern Nigeria. We have the nation's wealth but it is being exploited by the people in the North and West.

Who has the oil? The East does. . . Who has the coal. . . the East does. . . who has the copper? the East does. . . Do you see the trend? undecided
When will you people ever learn that resources don't make countries rich. Haven't we learned from the likes of Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iran and co? geez. Look at israel with just a tiny population of around 7.5 million people, yet they have one of the most advanced countries in the world despite not having hardly any natural resources. They don't even have water! yet they are an Agricultural powerhouse meanwhile, you are still sitting down and complaining about how everybody is oppressing you and stopping you from developing, what a way to deflect blame to others.
PoliticsRe: Lagos State Is Sinking In A Sea Of Debt by davidif: 5:34am On Jun 14, 2010
Debt is not bad as long as it is sustainable (read: if its not a significant chunk of your GDP) or else you would end up like Dubai or Greece. I know its hard for a sovereign body to default or go bankrupt but having seen what happened to Argentina, Russia and lately Greece, we should be careful that the debt is being invested in the future to create further wealth. For example, if one is borrowing to invest in education, power, healthcare and other things that can make a country successful in future, then that is not bad as it is an investment and not an expense. But if one is spending money on planting flowers around lagos or spending money on the millitary, then you are just pouring money down a sink hole.

There is something about mediocrity and Africa, maybe it has to do with our religious inclinations. First that Algerian no 9 wanted to cheat by using his hand to direct the ball then the goal keeper lost concentration and let the ball go into the net.

The one drop thing is a United States thing. Other nations do not have to adopt it.

People think that it is wrong for the Spanish to call a person with one Mullato parent and a Spanish parent as a "Moor" or a Mestizo and a White parent as "White"

But these same people think it is right to tell somebody who has over 90% Irish ancestry that he/she is of the "Black race" and that he/she is a brother/sister to people from Somalia, Ethiopia etc but not Irish people? I mean the person shares about all their genetic connection with Irish people. How is the person not a brother/sister to Irish people but is the same "race" as a Somalian whom he has no genetic, cultural or linguistic ancestry with?

If anything is stupidly insane it is the one drop nonsense

People should be castigating the ODR, not critisizing people in foreign lands for not abiding by an American social concept.
Do you know how hard it would be to put all this racial categories in a census form? Those classification makes things easier for everybody and also since the dawn of time people have always had names for people with different skin pigmentations than them, its a way of identifying themselves.

Do some of you saying these shocking things to bkbabe realize that it took a spirit of kinship for her to come to nairaland forum and lime and bond with us all. Whatever she has said to anybody, this lady does not deserve to be thrown these more-than-acidic and more-than-racist words. How can you guys talk to her like this? I know it was all said out of anger but now that the anger has died down, I know that Cap has realized he did not talk nice to her. Cap please go ahead and apologise to her, metal gong too. It doesn't take anything out of you two do that but makes our world a lovelier and more accommodating place.
It wasn't our fault our race dispersed and mingled with the other races and wherever we meet our own we should still love one another, we blacks and the blackrooted mixed people have come a long way. This is not a good way for us all to relate in the diaspora. We should embrace and accommodate one another, shouldn't we?
Man, i share your sentiments, i almost apologized to the girl for what cap said to her.

3hrs!!!!!! would be lost forever and you cant get it back,

I would rather watch "paint dry" than to watch someone rolling her eyes shouting at the house girl for no reason,
Naija movies lack editing, good screenplay, cinematography and pretty much everything else. Movies are very difficult to make compared to music videos. You don't need much in art direction just get a couple of girls that are not "difficult to look at" and have them dance on the screen and you are fine. In movies there are lot more things you have to consider.

This is a good first step because there is no point building "ultra mordern" classrooms if we don't have world class teachers teaching the students. Remember all these started from talking about how we need to try and improve our own quality and not just thrashing it.
If Italy never worked on improving the quality of their leather, there wont be Italian shoes.
Talking of quality, what is quality when you talking about China made stuff, and i at least hope you are aware that most of the great things we use and buy are all China Made, what made them to be different? Was cos the manufacturers invested in what will make it to be better and stand out.
So when do we get off just buying and consuming and be the one that will manufacture and sell to the world?
Look son, competition is good for the market place, it gives customers a wide array of choices. Isn't that what capitalism is all about? If Nigerian manufacturers can't compete then they deserve to go bankrupt afterall "if you can't stand the heat then you should leave the kitchen". Why should i waste my money on a product that would hardly last all in the name of waiting for naija to "improve" or develop? Thank goodness for globalization, at least customers now have a wide pool to select from. When naija manufacturers are ready to play with the big boys and up there standards then i would buy but in the mean time, let me continue scouring the globe looking quality products.
