PoliticsRe: The Dora Akunyili Interview! by davidif: 2:02am On Aug 23, 2009
I lost respect for her when she accepted the Ministerial appointment.
The noble thing to do is to decline such offers and keep her integrity.
She did so much good in Nafdac that i'd have expected her to be appointed somewhere her talents would be properly harnessed . . ."health"
The excuse may be that she is versatile but i see her going down the drain.
Info and communications is ruining her credentials. She's all over the place in this rebranding effort in order to stay relevant but she has lost it.
You can't rebrand Nigeria if the fundamentals/root cause of the problem "Nigeria" is not addressed.
It's not to late for her to resign and go pick up a job at WHO, where she belongs.
I agree with you on all your points. Why didn't she decline the new ministerial appointment? This is an example of putting a square peg in round hole.

her daughter will be ashamed of her! she is really a local champion, these are not thing you should talk about in public!
i bet if her daughter had been married to another tribe she'll probably be saying the same thing!!
Exactly, it is a very shameful comment, i thought she is supposed to be PR expert. What a huge blunder on her part. If the wife had been married to any other tribe i think she would have been displeased also.
PoliticsRe: The Dora Akunyili Interview! by davidif: 10:07am On Aug 22, 2009
I am really happy for her family, but how could she say that she would have been happier if he daughter had married a Nigerian? that's an insult to her daughter and her daughter's husband.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Gets A Ratings Cut From S&p by davidif: 10:01am On Aug 22, 2009
Why are u contradicting yourself you are the same guy that support the fact Lehman brothers was highly rated by this same rating institution and following week filled bankruptcy.

Please makeup your mind
No i am not contradicting myself, i am actually playing devil's advocate for them. I was rebuking the guy because he didn't know what he was saying.
PoliticsRe: Niger Delta: Constructive Ideas On Developmental Projects For The Region by davidif: 9:56am On Aug 22, 2009
FOCUS ON 5 THINGS AND 5 THINGS ONLY.

1. ELECTRICITY (BY FAR MOST IMPORTANT, BECAUSE LACK OF ELECTRICITY SEVERELY HAMPERS COMMERCE)
2. EDUCATION (AT LEAST 60% OF THERE REVENUE MUST GO TO THIS)
3. AGRICULTURE (a source of fast money for the govt.)
4. ROADS (this would link up the rural areas with the urban areas thereby facilitating commerce)
5. HEALTH (This is how you prevent your future Bill Gates and Warren Buffets dying at a young age without fulfilling there potential)

If I owned NL, I guarantee you Becomrich would not be able to post as I will block all avenues because there is no shred of positive contribution. He only wants to annoy and demonstrate insanity at all costs with his Satellite posts.
Yep
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Gets A Ratings Cut From S&p by davidif: 8:46am On Aug 22, 2009
Some of those rating institutions are fraudsters.
Please don't talk about what you don't know. Not every country in the world is like naija.
PoliticsRe: Which Nairalander Would You Like To See As President? by davidif: 8:43am On Aug 22, 2009
Seun, would only lead to more divisions (with his desire to demonstrate uber-open mindedness and liberalism) when he can not do the simplest thing of banning permanently tribal zealots on this forum and mentally questionable people like Becomerich.

A leader needs to be open-minded but also needs to be decisive in clamping down on anything/people that is/are not contributing positively in anyway (especially when not even a shred of positive contribution after several warnings).
sagamite, your head correct, that is what i was said about him in my post. He seems as if he want to please everybody at the same time, instead of making tough decisions. But he still has room for improvement and i will definitely vote him for president.

IKEYMAN - VP
I WOULD RATHER PREFER BECOMRRICH AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA THAN IKEYMAN (and that's saying a lot).

TV/MoviesRe: Depiction Of Nigerians In "District 9" by davidif: 6:50am On Aug 22, 2009
smokie
you hit the message right on the head. There are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many stories waiting to be written, especially in a chaotic and highly spontaneous society like Nigeria. A day in Lagos is enough to become a hollywood hit.

I consider "City of god" the greatest movie ever made, the funny thing is that some people in naija actually live almost the same lifestyle portrayed in the movie. Why it hasn't been made into a movie yet shows incredible lack of creativity in that industry. But the funny thing is that naija movies are very popular in Africa is because they appeal to most africans better than most hollywood movies (how many Africans can relate to the movie "Crash" or how many care about Scarlett Johansson?). My roomate told me that when he went on a missionary trip to Uganda, the people in the village were watching naija movies even though some of the people could not even speak or understand English.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Gets A Ratings Cut From S&p by davidif: 6:31am On Aug 22, 2009
Who still takes the rating agency seriously? Fitch, Moody and S & P.

I can remember Lehanm Brothers had a AAA rating the Friday before it went bust (it filled for bankruptcy on Monday)

This rating agencies are also conflict of interest. The Banks, companies pay them to give them a rating, is it the higher you pay the better? Another thing is most of the people that work for this agencies have worked for the banks, companies.
I spent spring break on wall street and when we there we went to Standard & Poor's and we asked these guys this questions. Trust me it was so hard to rate those CDO's, nobody knew how to rate them so they just assumed that house prices would always keep rising (which were the underlying assets these securities were based on). These guys have firewalls that seperate the various depts. which means that there is NO communication between say investment research and risk evaluation.

is it the higher you pay the better?
No, its not the higher you pay the better, you just pay them to rate you and that's it.
PoliticsRe: Which Nairalander Would You Like To See As President? by davidif: 6:18am On Aug 22, 2009
I think Seun would make an excellent president, he comes off as really intelligent when he speaks but my problem is that he doesn't seem to want to make tough decisions at times like banning vile comments and controversial topics that cause a lot of division amongst nairalanders.
"The Amaka" too is not that bad but she is new here so i don't really know much about her.

PoliticsRe: Politics Library Project by davidif: 4:26am On Aug 22, 2009
the moderators don't do there work, instead of censoring vile comments or divisive topics like tribalism displayed by some people who are still fighting a war that they lost even before they were born they don't do anything. How incredibly incompetent. People who post racist comments or those who attack other people should be banned.

By the way, there should be a feature that allows one to invite other people to this forum but there is none.

My sister’s husband was trying to compliment his little daughter who just had her hair done and he said to her ‘Nene you her is looking sweet’. His son who is just 3 asked in surprise ‘is it a Rice’? (as far as he was concerned, its only food that could be sweet)

What made his question so funny was the complete innocence and surprise he expressed. It was so hilarious!! After his dad gently explaind what he meant to him. He actually saw the humour in his question and turned it to a joke.

Immidiately my sister (his mother) came home, he rushed to her and said 'Mummy, Nene's hair is looking Rice'
Definitely the funniest one.

My sis went to visit her friend sometime ago and bought biscuits for her friends son. When she gave them to the little boy,she was a bit surprised at how greedily he tore at the wrappings and starting grubbing. so,she asked him, bobo, why're you eating like that? and he says
'i have to start eating them before aunty comes.she begs too much!'
he was talking bout his mum's sis!
WHAT A CLASSIC.

I have been trying to teach her the value of money and how you can't have everything you want. So sometimes in the store, when she wants a toy I say, "Elizabeth, you can't have that because it costs two (or three) moneys, and mummy only has one".

Well, one day we go to the mall and I enter this really expensive store. After looking at two price tags, I decide that I have no business being in there and start to hustle Elizabeth out the door. At this point, she turns around and says to me, in a very loud voice so everyone in the store can hear, "Mummy, are we leaving because you don't have enough money to buy the things?" Embarassing!!!
haaaaaaaaaaaaa.

shut up daddy

It will be a small wedding: just me, my wife, her parents and siblings,
my parents and siblings, and our 2 or 3 closest friends. And registry officials.

We'll go to the registry, sign the papers (prenuptial and marriage certificate),
then go to the nearest eatery for cake and ice cream after which I will drive
the bride to a peaceful hotel/resort far away so we can minister to each other.
omo oga seun, i just can't wait to minister on my wedding night he he he.
EventsRe: Describe Your Dream Wedding by davidif: 8:01pm On Aug 21, 2009
If you guys are thinking of small wedding, you should think of doing your wedding outside of Nigeria because people will come whether they are invited or not. That is one thing I experience about that country. Before I went home last year to do my traditional marriage, I was thinking of small thing but oh boy, was I wrong. uninvited people are tripled the people I invited but thank God, I was ready and my father that came with me was financially ready because he knows Nigerian mentally. Despite all the money we spend, on planning to return back to USA, everyone was still expecting us to give them money including my belongings. We came back to USA broke and my nothing left in my suitcase but it was fun sha. Good luck guys.

Obasanjo is the biggest mumu of our generation, instead of a 79 year old grandpa like him to think of his death he's getting married again, and you would think after tricking the white men and Nigerians of their money, he would use it for something useful.
What?!?!?!? the bible said that man was not made to be alone, that is why he created a partner for him named Eve, geez, naija people sha. Would you prefer him to just sit down at home because he is 79 and be feeling sorry for himself instead of going to enjoy his life or whatever is left of it. Chai, Nigerians una dey very terrible o. No empathy at all.
