@nosa I like your picture i too used to go to TAMU. |
TOH; How is maggi and co. bad for me? i am just curious. |
@mr jakumo It is also worthy of note that in a country such as Nigeria where academic credentials are often purchased rather than earned, Governor Fashola's understated intellect and prodigious command of the English language are adequate clues to identify a formidable scholar who earned his legal and political laurels by virtue of quiet academic and professional over-achievement.When will my fellow Nigerians learn that there is nothing special in learning how to speak English in fact, you don't have to be educated to run a country, all you need is to be able to make good sound decisions, to be honest and to represent and serve the people who elected you. Harry Truman of the US never went to college, neither did several other US presidents. Deng Xiaoping of the people's republic of China could not speak a word of English and was able to transform his country and he wasn't that articulate. Margret Thatcher on the other hand, for all her English was a pathetic leader, even Gordon Brown is about to be voted out of office. |
Point of correction, it is not the job of the government to dirctly do those projects you mentioned except in a social democratic country like germany which is now gradually changing. They are mostly done by private sectors the only thing the goverment should do is provide security, law and orders and importantly make legislations that will facilitate the execution of such projects. My good friend, this is exactly how the Asian countries developed so quickly, they didn't wait for 300 years like the US did to develop, the govts led a massive state industrialization drive that's why there countries now are very developed even though some of them got there independence after us. On the issue of taxation, it is a wrong step for any government to tax people so highly because it does nothing but discourages investments without which you wont have a solid economy, less job created, increase unemployment etc. You should also be very careful of certain viscal policies that can encourage people to depend on the government for everything that is what happened in UK and now their empire is crumbling. You have a point but i am not talking about the general taxation of Nigerians just the taxing of the population of Lagos so as to depopulate the city and the transform it to a well planned and developed city (El-Rufai comes to mind). As you know already, money does not grow on trees and the state does not have enough funds for a railway project which the city desperately needs because of the high occurences of traffic jams in the city. Also, the city badly (AND I MEAN REALLY BADLY) needs a sophisticated sewage system and the best way to raise this funds is through taxes. How do you think a city like New York runs so successfully, its because the govt over there levies huge taxes to maintain the city, that's why its the centre of the world and that's why people come from all over the world to come see New York and not New Orleans. This high taxes might chase some people away which is fine but with the money it could use it to develop its educational system and its healthcare system so that you don't have armed robbers, agberos, ashewos, truck pushers, pure water sellers or worst of all you don't see blind crippled victims of polio, cataracts or other third world diseases. The city's people would be very sophisticated and educated and they would be opening Venture Capitalist firms, Private Equity firms and Hedge funds instead of opening pure water kiosks, or "mama put" stands. By the way, which city do u have in those pictures? because I didn't see molue or okada. The first one was Berne, Switzerland, the last two were New York. |
@cougar All you are doing is knocking my points, why don't you contribute ideas instead of accepting the status quo, you sound like most typical Nigerians, they never contribute, all they do is criticize. |
The guys who compiled the list must have been high. nuff said. |
In order to improve the integrity of the league, there should be a refree review board: a group of independent refs that reviews every game to check if there was any irregularities and to maintain the integrity of the league. |
Then we should use bone marrow testing. I know its only accurate to within 18 months but i can live that. Also, we have to protect our future Pato's and Messi's so that they don't run away abroad remember this guys are supposed to be the star attractions of the Enyimbas and Julius Berger's. |
Sorry this is just a rough draft but everybody should contribute to this thread rather than being an armchair critic. What the governor should do to depopulate the urban areas and he should do it by installing property taxes to deter people from settling in the city. For example, a $17000 minimum tax on all residents plus any additional percentage depending on your economic class (e.g 17,000 + 28% of income of tax per acre of land you own)would make people flee the city and resettle in the rural areas and the revenue would be used to transform the city to Dubai or Berne and make LASU and LAUTECH the next MIT, or Caltech. Remember that the country with the best educational system always comes out on top. Before he can do all this he needs to develop the rural areas so that people wouldn't hesitate to live there and the best way to do that is to invest in agriculture and tax the farmers to use the money to develop the rural areas by creating free education and free healthcare (people in the 21st century should not be dying of typhoid or malaria or contracting polio). Free education and free healthcare would definitely attract a lot of people to the countryside and with a sophisticated transportation system particularly railway, would lead to a less clogged up Lagos. A subway system is what the city really needs because of the heavy traffic, so it should charge very high fees for parking permits (20,000 per month) anywhere in the city which would force people to dump there cars at home and ride the train more rather than parking the roads with countless cars including 'molues" and "keke marwa's". The state govt should levy every business a property tax and each business must comply with city ordinances by building a parking lot so that we don't have many cars parked by the roadside causing traffic jams and so that the govt can easily tax them rather than taxing everybody with a car. The city should be subdivided into different districts like business districts (for the skyscapers), school districts, religious districts. We can't have chaos around the city with a mosque in the middle of a market place on Friday causing "go-slow". He should lead a state led industrialization drive in the rural areas by creating food processing plants and other light industries like textile factories in the rural areas, this would create jobs so that that all those guys who have gone to the city to look for work and ended up becoming agberos and ashewos to make ends meet would now come back home. |
Unlike similar posts that just ask generic questions on how to improve Nigerian football, i present a rough draft of ideas and everybody should be willing to contribute. Fix the NFA and the NFL and place the NFL under the NFA, How? The NFA is way too big for its purpose, it is an organization of over 50 people which is unnecessary, a lot of employees are just hanger ons that were placed there by colleagues to embezzle money. When Alex Akinyele was there in the mid '90s there were less than 10 employees and they got the job done. Downsize the organization to just 9 workers who would make it lean and very efficient with key positions such as; President/GM (i can imagine John Fashanu in this position) Vice President: In charge of all football operations including scouting and logistics Secetary/Treasurer/fundraiser Technical director: the guy in charge of all national teams from the falconettes to the super eagles Lawyer: Legal purposes Public relations manager President of the NFL (sunday oliseh comes into mind) Coach of the national team Coach of the falcons After the restructuring, the organization should be run like a business model with the aim of making money. The NFA can make money by owning the rights to the players which means that company's should pay the NFA certain amount of money if they want to use the player for any commercial purposes such as advertising. Another means would be signing lucrative sponsorship deals with the Pumas, Nikes and the Reebok's or using effective fundraising. Also, each federation recieves $7million for participating in the world cup and other millions for participating in the African cup of nations. At the end of the fiscal year this money should be used to create 3 (Lagos, Kaduna, Port Harcourt) world class soccer academies like the prestigious Clairefontaine academy in France which has churned some of the best players in the world such as the Anelka's and the Thierry Henry's and the academies should be run by ex-football players like the Finidi's and the Okocha's under the direct supervision of the vice president. Reforming the NFL In order to reform the league to standard, the NFA should pump some of its revenue into the league and make sure every, i repeat EVERY coach should be sponsored to go to Europe to get there UEFA 'A' License for tactics and game preparation, we can't have coaches who don't know the difference between a 4-2-3-1 formation and a 3-3-3-1 formation, and also while they are at it they should get there UEFA Pro License: Every manager at every big club in Europe has this one, it teaches coaches how to manage clubs and players so we don't have any more siasia-mikel clashes any longer. Nigerian coaches should learn that you treat millionaire football players differently from primary school students where you yell and coerce them rather than persuading them to believe in your system. This moves should make the league worth watching and the quality of play much better rather than watching the "kick and follow" football on horrible pitches that in the immortal words of Berti Vogts, not even "Sir Alex Ferguson would let his horses graze on". To protect the leagues young talent, it should institute a ban on players less than 23 from going overseas, so that our league won't turn into the Argentina or Brazillian leagues where teams from Europe keep poaching their talent thereby detering fans from the stadiums. Secondly, on the issue of infrastructure, since Nigeria is hosting the next U17 world cup that would not be a problem, maintaining it would, and in order to get money to invest in the league, it would have find larger sponsors (Globacom is not enough) and sign contracts with other TV networks. Another important way to raise money for the league is through merchandising, the teams would have to create lots of merchandises from Enyimba jerseys to bubble heads of star players, with this revenue it can pay the players well so they would have to end up in Bangladesh or Shanghai FC. It should also try to attract old superstars like the Okocha's or the Kanu's to play one season before they fully retire, this would attract a lot of fans to the stadiums who want to see there heroes last hurrahs. The clubs should buy the stadiums they use from the state or federal govts so that it can raise revenue from the stadiums by charging season tickets (minimum 100,000 naira: VIP seating should cost more) for home games and ordinary game tickets for 10,000 naira. Also, since the clubs own the stadium they can raise revenue for other non-footballing events like, NUGA games, All Africa games, Independence day and Children's day parades, political rallies, and it should charge schools who host inter-house sports at the stadium. This way the clubs not only make enough revenue but they can maintain the facilities. To improve the integrity of the league, there should be a refree review board: a group of independent refs that reviews every game to check if there was any irregularities and to maintain the integrity of the league. Feel free to add any more ideas. |
omo the thing won hard small he he he. |
Old timer, I remember my mom telling us about Hubert Ogunde that means man you must be really really old . he he he. |
that goalkeeper is too uncoordinated. |
Mr Arnold1 Yes there are ghettos everywhere, the question is the size and how prevalent it is? AJ city and Mushin are some of the largest slums in the world, right up there with the Kibera slums of Kenya and the slums of Calcutta, India and don't even try to compare Harlem or Brooklyn slums to Lagos slums, they are waaaaaaaaaaaay much better and sanitary. |
, and this is how roads should be.
|
This is how a city should be.

He might be trying but he still has a long way to go. What he should do is to depopulate the urban areas and he should do it by installing property taxes to deter people from settling in the city. The food is so annoying and monotonous. In fact, i take that back, they don't have any food at all, all they do is make some concortion. Majority of them eat out and all they do is eat Mickey D's which is the mother of all bad food or subway and those other pathetic restaurants. Gosh i miss mr. Biggs. WARNING: In this era of globalization, please make them no bring mickey d's come naija. |
I speak my native language and i make sure that i use the authentic (so called local) accent to show how much i love my country and i am educated. |

who cares, speaking English fluently should not be the measure of a man. What's so special about the language in the first place is it our native tongue, you don't see Chinese people ( the most populous nation in the world) ridiculing there people because they can't speak English. Pullleaze English is overrated. |
Marosky; C. Ronaldo is originally from Brazil!!! are you kidding me? Obviously you know nothing about football, C.Ronaldo is from Portugal (born and raised) so are his parents, don't let the name Ronaldo fool you, his father named him after Ronald Reagan. In fact he was born in Madiera in Portugal so i don't know where you get your data from. Concerning Messi, when messi came to Barca when he was 12 he was deemed too small that they had to inject him with a steady supply of human growth hormones (HGH) because he had a hormonal deficiency that's why he grew up (and he still isn't big enough). Now for you to say that Messi is overage simply because he is so good at such a young stage or that he is south american and therefore he automatically falsified his age is simply ignorant. If he falsified his age those treatments might have an adverse effect on him. By the way, if you're wondering because south america is not europe does not mean that they are as backward as we are (some are though) but a lot of the South American countries are more developed than we are, if you like go research them on the web, they have a better GDP and PCI than we have especially Brazil and Argentina. By the way if you didn't know, they have a way of testing peoples ages through bone marrow testing but unfortunately its only accurate to within a couple of months that's why FIFA is not using it. You remember that they wanted to test Taye Taiwo when he was transfering to a club after the WYC but the club stipulated that he do a bone marrow test but he declined because he knew his age was false. I am not saying that Africans do not cheat.but it is not as bad as some of us think it is.One more thing is that we are not the only ones into that shit. Also, because other countries cheat doesn't mean that we should, its not about them its about us. You should never do something simply because other people are doing it, you do it because its the right thing to do. One should never do something foreign to his nature or character or you lose your soul or your essence as a human being. |
@leilah Don't mind that D-loaded guy or whatever they call him, that's how Nigerian men are (not all though), the truth is just too bitter for him to stand jo. |
Why is it that we always blame the tortoise in every African folktale, abeg my people make una leave Mr. Tortoise alone, the man don too suffer self, from loosing his hair to hot porridge and breaking his shell while falling off a birds back from the sky i think the man has suffered enough, why don't we go after mr. pig since they are so dirty or mr. vulture since they are so, well let's just leave it that, you already know the millon things in my mind when a vulture comes to mind. |
First of all, never underestimate a desperate man; in this case someone who has not eaten in 2 days. We should first of all tackle the problem that causes armed robbery in the first place like the incredibly pathetic public school system we have. Provide free education for all Nigerians, no country can be fully productive if a significant part of its population is uneducated. In yanki and most developed countries there is free education until the university level Invest heavily in Agriculture and transportation to facilitate the rural economy this would make the rural areas develop and create lots of job opportunities, so that all this kids would not be migrating to the urban areas and ending up in the Mushin's or Ajegunle's and become either prostitutes or armed robbers. Fix NEPA, if this happens every other thing would fall into place like industrialization creating more jobs for Nigerians. So my fellow Nigerians let's not forget that in the real world just as statistics have shown us around the world, punishment never deters crime and that prevention is better than cure. |
Claire is sooooooo hot and yummy. |
Eric Cantona was not a winger, he was a striker, get your facts right if you are a man u fan. |
