Thank you jare, if they were competent how come there is no light or even 24hour water being channelled into everybody's homes, the bridges they build collapse, same with the houses and they have the audacity to even say that they are competent.
PoliticsRe: ( Video ) Police Brutality Naija Style by davidif: 2:07am On Feb 06, 2008
ah ah wetin dey wrong with this country, what kind of sadistic brutality is this? this guys should file a class action lawsuit against the Nigerian army. I guess this is the same way they are brutalized at the baracks by there commandants and they decide that it would be good to do that on civillians. This country is just absolutely useless, from the govt and based on what i am reading on this post; the citizens. For those who say the Nigerian millitary is worth there salt, all they need to do is see there incompetency in quenching the insurgency in the Niger Delta. The only thing they know is how to pick on harmless, defenseless citizens, afterall, this is the same army where in order to cope up with the inadequacies or lack of funding for a well equipped and well trained standing army, soldiers are subjected to inhumane treatment all in the name of toughness. This cadets are not only subjected to horrible treatments, but molestation to make them subordinate. Proper 21st century millitary training is substituted for brutal and archaic "training".  Let's see them perform a simple millitary manuever or quell an insurrection or uprising in the North whenever those muslims go crazy again. This is the so called "powerful army" that was woeful while enduring serious casualties during ECOMOG operations in sierra leone and liberia in the 90's despite the fact that the millitary was underreporting or flat out denying the number of millitary dead.

Having said all that, this guys should be identified, apprehended and court martialled by the Nigerian army for what they did. This would serve as a stern warning to the millitary to rein in there act and there excesses.
SportsRe: NFL Playoffs are Here. by davidif(op): 1:33am On Feb 06, 2008
Its tuesday and i still can't get over the Giants win, this is my favorite superbowl since,  em,  well 2004, and its definitely the best football game i've watched since Vince Young destroyed USC at the Rose Bowl  grin  grin  grin . I don't want to say the Patriots choked, or that Tom Brady got rattled (remember his 9 play 80 yard drive with just three minutes left?)but i would say the Giants just wanted it more, and they were absolutely amazing at getting it. They hit Tom Brady numerous times and never stopped hitting ( i remember Osi saying they were going to get to the QB days before the game). There defense was just simply outstanding (credit defensive cordinator mike spagnuolo for that), they not only played with so much intensity but  played with fire, hunger and anger to complement there amazing pressure schemes, blitz packages oh and let's not forget that pass rush which was absolutely instrumental in keeping the Giants close all game long. The front four were so outstanding, even Justin Tuck came of age, there occasional blitzes from their linebackers and safeties was usually very devastating.

Elijah might never be as good or better than his brother but on this day when it mattered most he stepped out of his brothers shadows and became THE MAN. So Go Eli, enjoy the moment, you might never have another moment like this again, or don't forget how fickle the fans are in New York, if you win they love you, if you lose they crucify (especially the media), but once again let me Congratulate for orchestrating the greatest upset in superbowl history.

check stats when nigerian engineers go abroad they always trounce their counterparts from elsewhere.

@kayzed
Liar, you are a very big liar, What stats are you talking abouthuh

@nigeria1
Are you incredibly crazyhuh or is there something wrong with you? You obviously have not come to college here in the US which makes you very extremely ignorant so just shut up.

To all of you who say that Nigerian engineers are competent, ARE YOU FREAKING HIGH  angry  angry  angry or are you just plain stupid. Here in yanki universities, i see a few nigerians who transfer or come to study here and they say that all they've learned in naija is absolutely rubbish and useless. All you ignorant Nigerians who say that university in yanki is easier than naija universities are obviously very very ignorant, you guys don't have the slightest clue what you are talking about. When you come here you will find out that everything you learnt in naija is void and irrelevant. Nigerian universities are incredibly INCREDIBLY incompetent, and so are the teachers, the engineers or whatever majors you study in naija. I learnt so much in one semester here in yanki than i ever did throughout my stay in naija and you wonder why our people know absolutely nothing.

Solution
As an optimist, i don't like to sound all negative but its not too late to cure our ills.
Firstly, We should merge all ministries into 9 instead of having almost 19 different ministries. So as to conserve money to spend on education. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Ministries_of_Nigeria Can someone please explain to me what we need the ministry of women affairs and the ministry of youth affairs for? They just want to use it to embezzle money like miriam babangida did with Better life for women but that's another story for another time.

Most importantly, Nigeria should convert to a parliamentary system of govt rather than an American style of democracy where you have 36 states. All 36 states should be dissolved into just 5 regions (e.g Western, South etc) so as to save enough money to spend on the educational infrastructure. We should dissolve the 36 states and merge them into just 5 regions so that there would be enough money to spend on education especially our universities. Nigeria is spending 40% of its GNP paying the Federal govts including the President and his cabinet, the branches of govt: the senate, the house of representative, the judiciary, the federal ministries, their state subsidiaries and the thousands and thousands of civil servants that work for them. Then you have the state governors, the deputies, their cabinets, the state senate and house of reps, the local govt chairmen and women, the perm. sec. and so on and so forth, and this guys are paid very well.  This is billions and billions of dollars that could be poured into our universities or be used to sponsor our students to the MIT's, Stanford's, Caltech's, Oxford's, Berkeley's, heck even IIT (Indian institute of technology).

SportsRe: Berti Vogts Has Been Sacked By NFA by davidif: 11:50pm On Feb 05, 2008
The NFA should follow him and resign, those guys don't know a thing about running an organiztion. As you can all see, the chicken is coming home to roost. We have been hiding behind the talent of our players and our huge population for churning up talent for such a long time, unfortunately, everybody is catching up with us and relying strictly on talent is simply not enough to win tournaments any longer, we need good administration and the incompetent thieves at the FA wouldn' do. Shortsighted Nigerians are always used to blaming the coaches whenever anything goes wrong, they are ignorant of the fact that everything starts and stops with the Nigerian FA.

By they way, where is Yar'adua and the national assembly when you need them? they should intervene and fire all members of the NFA.

PS. John Fashanu please run for FA president again.

PoliticsRe: A World With No Internet ?! by davidif: 7:11am On Feb 04, 2008
It would be great because human beings would learn to interact with one another once again instead of sitting holed up in someplace spending countless hours browsing the internet instead of enjoying your friends. The internet has made us more isolated, we would rather spend hours communicating with strangers rather than interacting with people in real life.

SportsRe: Berti Vogts Must Stay by davidif(op): 5:53am On Feb 03, 2008
This folahann guy or however they spell your name should go get a life or something, remember, football is JUST A GAME, i don't understand the whining, bitching and crying on your part over just a game where some adults are being paid to kick a leather ball around. Let's just hope that you are not one of those shallow kids who are so obsessed with a lousy sport and forget that its just for entertainment purposes.
SportsRe: Kanoute Named 2007 African Footballer Of The Year by davidif: 5:47am On Feb 03, 2008
Not to take anything from Frederic Kanoute, he is a good player, but he wasn't even on the shortlist of FIFA's world players of the year, meanwhile Drogba scored 30 goals last season and despite his slow start to this season partly because of injuries he is still showing his class. Frederic Kanoute on the other hand did not merit this award in any way. The committee who voted for him should be investigated and possibly banned.
SportsRe: Eagles Woes: Results Of Our Sins by davidif: 5:41am On Feb 03, 2008
dude, its just football and nothing more. IT IS JUST A GAME were adults kick a leather ball around like millions of kids do around the world only that the proffessionals actually get paid, so stop equating it to something much serious than that.

the food is amazing especially akwa ibom  and cross rivers peoples food. Just absolutely wonderful.
The closeness, joviality, robustness, exoticism you name it, i enjoy being around naija people a lot, we know how to make each other laugh. Westerners are so isolated and sensitive about there personal space, meanwhile, in naija you fit just waka go your friend house without even calling him at all, and you fit even crash for the night. In naija we help each other a lot; if your boy no get money you give am or if you no get cash at all go ask "uncle" for cash him go give you. Its not like that here in yanki at all, you can't even give kids money when you visit them like we do in naija.

Even though life in the developed world is better in a lot of aspects, the communal nature here is lacking, for example, in naija we are raised that "it takes a village to raise a child" while in yanki its more like "here is our family and there is everybody else". Also, because everything here is so developed, life can be somewhat monotonous, devoid of drama and spontaniety (e.x of spontaniety is a typical day at Oshodi or Yaba grin grin). The only excitement you get in life is during the weekend (the climax of the week) where you go party and drink and do whatever it is that you derive pleasure from. To be honest, life can be soooooo extremely depressing and loney here, and you wonder why you almost never hear of suicide in naija even though life is hell. Also, life can be somewhat shallow; you wake up in the morning where the neighborhood is usually quietter than a ghost town, you drive to work in your self contained car go buy canned food or eat in a restaurant, then come back home, there are no kids playing on the street in your neighborhood, not a ghost in sight, you don't even know your next door neighbor who has lived next to you for almost 5 years and you wonder why we have crazy people in this country grin This is afterall a society where you even have to pay someone to listen your problems (therapist) and they try to diagnose you with something (bi-polar disorder) so that you buy there drugs and make more money for them. On the other hand, in naija, you tell your friends what you're going through and they usually come up with a solution.

SportsRe: Nba Starts For Heat Haters Only by davidif: 1:55pm On Feb 02, 2008
People forget that the Heat team that won the championship 2 seasons ago was built for the short term (read: immediate championship) that's why they were packed with veterans, Pat Riley simply wanted to get a promising Heat team to the next level. But now this players are old and Riley shipped them out. Also, Riley admitted to have made a mistake in trading James Posey.

By the way, to all you laker fans out there, their is no way that the lakers are going to get past the Spurs come playoff time, whether Pau Gasol is healthy or not.
SportsRe: Nba Starts For Heat Haters Only by davidif: 1:50pm On Feb 02, 2008
I don't care how good the lakers are this year with the Gasol trade, truth of the matter is they can't challenge the Spurs in the playoffs.
SportsRe: Christiano Ronaldo - The Best Player On The Planet? by davidif: 1:48pm On Feb 02, 2008
No doubt about it, this guy is pretty hot right now, but for him to be better than Kaka he has to lead his team to the champions league final like Kaka almost single handedly did and he also has to set the Euros on fire during the summer. However, having said all that, the guy would have won the award if only he didn't dissappear when his team needed him like the FA cup final and the 2nd leg semi final against AC Milan.

TV/MoviesRe: Horror Movies That Really Scared The Hell Out Of You by davidif:
Halloween (the original one from 1978) is definitely the scariest movie i ever watched next to The Grudge (2004). I remember watching halloween when i was in naija around 1:00 am at night, all the lights were switched off and everybody had gone to bed; one of the most horrifying experiences of my life.
The grudge was too scary that i couldn't watch it in one sitting. The movie started with a bang, and i was fascinated until things started getting really really weird, i would watch for a while and get scared and try to finish it days later but couldn't stomach the scenes and would leave again only to eventually conclude the movie several weeks later ha ha ha.

Also, let's not forget the "willi willi" series (hot cash), the tune (or the theme) of that TV series still sends chills up my spine till this day when i try to remember it (i am dead serious). The Mount Zion Christian movies also did some damage to me psychologically, it is fair to say that they scarred me mentally like the "Agbara Nla" (ultimate power) and "Lost Forever". I don't care what nobody say but babies like us should never have been exposed to movies like that at such a young age, it really traumatizes a child for life especially subconsciously.
