An anti-parasitic head lice drug available around the world has been found to kill COVID-19 in the lab within 48 hours.

A Monash University-led study has shown a single dose of the drug Ivermectin could stop the SARS-CoV-2 virus growing in cell culture.

'We found that even a single dose could essentially remove all viral RNA (effectively removed all genetic material of the virus) by 48 hours and that even at 24 hours there was a really significant reduction in it,' Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute's Dr Kylie Wagstaff said on Friday.

While it's not known how Ivermectin works on the virus, the drug likely stops the virus dampening the host cells' ability to clear it.

The next step is for scientists to determine the correct human dosage, to make sure the level used in vitro is safe for humans.

'In times when we're having a global pandemic and there isn't an approved treatment, if we had a compound that was already available around the world then that might help people sooner,' Dr Wagstaff said.

'Realistically it's going to be a while before a vaccine is broadly available.'


Scientists expect it could be at least a month before human trials.

Before Ivermectin can be used to combat coronavirus, funding is needed to get it to pre-clinical testing and clinical trials.

Ivermectin is an FDA-approved anti-parasitic drug also shown to be effective in vitro against viruses including HIV, dengue and influenza.

The study is the joint work of Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute and the Peter Doherty Institute of Infection and Immunity.

To me, this impact looks like a drone strike or a bomb or something dropped from above hitting the ground at around 100km/hr.

I don't think it's impossible as there are other factors that could increase the impact below the natural ground level, hence, the crater.

The explosive device could be a rocket launcher type already assembled and sloping downward at the time of explosion.

It may have also uprooted a structure to create such crater.

I also feel a very loose soil type will create a higher impact.

A guy opened a thread about ladipo boys selling stolen vehicle parts https://www.nairaland.com/5720382/ladipo-market-traders-aid-us and this made me remember my ordeal some years ago I think 2014/2015.

I was a site manager with a construction firm, DELABAS construction.

For those who knows mushin very well, this site is close to mushin last bus stop, adjacent FCMB agege motor road mushin, very close to ladipo madket. There is this brand new lexus rx330 from the look of things, it was bought brand new and from the way I looked at it, maybe 4-5months used. It was parked at the front of our site but I didn't notice on time. It was there for like 3days,but my believe was that maybe the owner just come there and park it everyday very early before I get to site though even when I close from site, I still leave it there.

On the third day, the woman selling paraga beside the site called my attention to it that the key is at the keyhole and the car hasn't moved for the past three days. Some ladipo boys were there to drink so two of them came close to me and said engineer, shey u Sabi drive? I said yes, if u fit carry this motor come ladipo, na 2million you go collect.

Now this is the issue, at the back of our site is olosan police station, before u get to ladipo, there is another police station before bally white hotels,

I thought about it seriously and I decided to go inform them at olosan police station and when the police came, I was even the one that drove the car to the police station.

Two days later, I got to know the suv belong to the chairman of bluegate ups, he was robbed and the driver was killed, they used the vehicle as a getaway and coincidentally parked it at the front of our site.

Very intelligent question. We are their vendor and this is the tricky part of the treachery. When we finished, while we are still on the discussion of our Bill, Fbn through Mrs Folake Ani-Mumuney requested us to produce small sample of about 100 ipad covers with the logo. We did to the best of our ability.
What we found strange until now is how Mrs Mumuney believe that the vendor job of supplying iPad covers we printed same logo we designed for them gives her and the bank a licence to use our intellectual property and then when we reminded them of our Bill, she refered us to legal. We have a reason to suspect it is a scheme from the onset to cheat us as a small brand.

From all indications, Mrs Mumuney's audacity shows she's got some spelt out terms you may not have understood before you took the job and it will take a legal team to interpret it to you in clear terms.

If I may ask, were you paid for this 100 iPad covers? If yes, then you really need to see their legal team before acting further, lest, the hunter becomes the hunted.

First and foremost, it is difficult to believe that a medical doctor that has attained to the level of having a private clinic would need a placenta for anything... How much would the sale of placenta would have fetched a medical doctor that probably had charged between 150k and 200k for the surgery?

Secondly, child births in Nigeria are often an occasion for many people, friends and relatives to visit the woman who has just put to bed. Anyone of such visitors could have carried the placenta. In fact, the father of the newborn could have carried the placenta and he's now trying to save face.
Usually the moment the procedure is complete a nurse (not even the attending physician) will pack the placenta in a container and hand it over to the father of the newborn, or any other close family member. Unfortunately most hospitals don't keep record of such exchange and it may be difficult to exonerate themselves. Our doctors should start keeping accurate records of things like this to avoid useless things of this sort embarrassing them.

It appears Nigerians are always so eager to bash Medical Doctors, Lecturers, Pastors etc... in fact, anyone Nigerians feel is doing well, they try to take their frustration out on, as if the Doctors (etc) are the ones responsible for their miserable lives.

Before marrying my wife, my business was moving well. I had an appliances big shop with full of things. I made a lots of money monthly and was able to pay all my bills and take care of my single mother and siblings without fail.

Bbut since we got married, just two months and 5 days after our marriage, my shop caught fire. From your words, it seems frustration is beginning to set in. Such is life and you are only passing through a trial time which is not strange. Same thing could have possibly happened even if you didn't get married to her.

In my dad's voice; always be ready to face the responsibility that comes with being a man because for some, the most trial times come when they are about to get married and/or when they are about giving birth to their first child...

Now she has gone to bring the child to our home, a two bedroom apartment, I'm a kind of guy who loves peaceful environment with no single drop of noise, now ever since the child came in about a week now, I have not had peace, we have quarreled several times because of the child, I'm not really comfortable with the child because I can't love another man's child as my own

My girlfriend is yet to give me a child of my own, the child runs around and doesn't listen except when beaten and each time I beat the boy up when he does wrong my girlfriend looks at me with hatred like I'm maltreating the boy because I'm not the father.

What I admire about your post is your sincerity when you said you can't look after another man's child. Well, it's your choice.

If I may ask, do you really love this girl and do you also think she loves you too? If yes, then there's absolutely nothing wrong in loving another man's child and taking care of him especially when you love his mother; he's only an innocent child. You bring in another round of blessing when that child takes you as his father.

However, you really need to sit this lady down and talk sense into her cos if she can't allow you train that child like you would train your own child, then it's better both of you part ways now that there's still time. Personally, I detest when you bring in a child to my home and in a bid to give him the best and what I feel is morally right, you turn around to play the emotional blackmail card.
