If there's a recommendation to make, I'd say stay away from the Freelanders. Problematic junk. I understand it's well loved in Nigeria. However, if you are bent on a '05 Freelander, why not shell out a little more for an '06 LR3 (I dont knowabout their reliability, but they look alot better and obviously newer than the freelander)? The Freelanders were discontinued in '05 and replaced with the LR3s. If you need a smaller SUV,you cant go wrong with a CRV.

He explained that he applied for a Canadian Visa in Nigeria and went to Ghana by Road , and from there he traveled to Canada.

My Question: Is it possible?

Will he not be required to apply for another Visa? Is the Visa approved in Nigeria going to work for him Ghana?


I am a novice in this line. Please, explain.

Ask your friend again; he probably applied for his visa before the Canadian embassy moved back into Nigeria in 2003 or thereabouts. Prior to that, if you wanted a Canadian Visa, u had to travel to Ghana. Ghana is an ECOWAS country and you do not need a Visa with a Nigerian passport. Another way you would be eligible to apply in Ghana is if you can show you residein Ghana.

There is however an accompanying letter, which states that when I get to Canada I would be issued with a study permit. My question therefore is: when the 2 months visa expires what would happen? Is the study permit a travel document? Or if I want to come to Nigeria in December for example, would I need to apply for a visa separate or would the Study Permit suffice?

AY, no probs about the question. A visa is just a travel document. What the Canadian embassy has done is basically give you a 2mth window to travel to Canada (which to me is quite silly). You are probably going to get a 2yr (or however long your program is) study permit when you arrive Canada. The study permit IS NOT a travel document. It is just a piece of paper which legalises your stay in Canada as a student. If you intend to travel in and out of Canada, you'd have to apply for another Visa (normally, they'd give you for the duration of your program). Trust me, it wont be as stressful. You just need to send your application by post to Buffalo, NY and you should get it in a cpl weeks. If you travel out of Canada without a valid visa, you'd need to apply from outside to get back in; so your safe bet is to apply from within; as fas as you have a valid study permit, you shud be fine. It just stupid they gave you a 2mth instead of a 2yr Visa. Goodluck.

Any news from anyone, still waiting O to receive the visa, LIVE! I hear it takes up to 3 weeks after medicals before issuance. Hope wont be twice that long like the initial wait.

Yes u are right. It's 3wks min from your medicals before they'd call you to issue the visa and a letter. The visa only allows you entry into Canada. The day you fly in, you'd be given a study permit at the port of entry.

Dont worry, if and when you decide to come to Canada, I'd take you through the xpress route with all my connections. I'd make sure you are not subjected to long waits or rejections. I'd ensure that your pretty smile remains on your face all day long. So when are you coming?
