One thing some of you folks ought to realise is that you can always grow to love anybody when you allow he/she into your life. Hence, it's quite a fallacy to make a long term decision, relationship-wise, based on current premises/circumstances. Secondly, long distance relationships, just like any other types work. . .it's based on your preference. I'm of the opinion that if two matured individuals decide to make something work between both of them, there's hardly anything that stops them.

@poster, if I were to give you an advice, I'd say shoot for the guy B simply because of the prospects of settling down. You definitely seem to have an issue with that since you mentioned about guy A being in school for the next 5yrs. Also, with guy B, you can always grow to love or hate him. . .however, if the timing and distance isnt an issue for u, stick with the first dude. However, regardless of ur decision, always keep ur sliding doors open. . .cos there might even be a guy C in the picture that wud make u smile.

You need to fill out the application form. The form will tell you what is needed. . most of the time, you need the invitation letter, passport photographs, application fee, itinerary and you have to show that you have very strong ties to your homeland, Nigeria. . .in otherwords, you are not planning to visit and stay over. If you are a student, then you probably need some documents from your school showing that you are registered, etc. That could convince the consular that you'd be returning for your studies. You also need to show who'd be sponsoring your trip and the bank account details. A return ticket would also help.

You should be able to get a bank draft. Banks like Citibank, Ecobank, etc issue international bank drafts. You can also wire transfer the funds to the institution. Ask the institution to provide bank details. Another option is to pay someone you know, who's at this end and let the person do the transfer for you.

P.S. Keep in mind that you do not have to pay your fees (only a deposit) until the embassy asks you to do so.

I admit, I havent heard of that institution before but just browsing thru their website, that na one of those moi moi universities. At least, if you want to spend money, spend am for better thing. University education is not just about the degree but the environment, colleagues, etc u get to interact with.

How long is your program? 1 yr, 2yrs or 4yrs?
If your tuition fee is $16k dollars, you have only N1.3mil which is approx $11k. You still have to make it up.

There are other expenses you have to take into consideration.
- Accommodation (it differs from city to city but it could start at $300/mth and up)
- Utilities (Phone, electricity, etc, approx $50/mth), if you are prudent, you could find a roomate to split these small costs cos they add up.
- Your feeding and other upkeep (that's up to you)
- Book and Stationery supplies
- Health insurance
- Miscellenous spendings

These are some basic costs you have to put into perspective while planning. Canada no be naija where you go say "Ogoro must jump"; if you dont pay yur rent first of the month, you stand a chance of being kicked out. If you dont pay ur bills, ur services will be suspended and you stand a chance of ruining your credit.

Previously, as an international student, you have to be well studded financially because it was prohibited for int'l students to work off campus. It wasnt as if the jobs on campus was there and even if you got one, the pay was nothing especially when you work probably like 10hrs or even less a week. However, the new law which was implemented last yr (or the previous), allows you to work up to 20hrs a week (as a student) anywhere. And during the break periods, summer and Christmas, you are allowed to work 40+hrs (full time). Depending on the job and hrs worked, alot of students are able to meet their needs (rent, books, feeding, etc) on a monthly. However, you still need to somehow find a way to knock off the tuition fee. The summer jobs are usually helpful but make sure you do your math properly otherwise you'd come here and start causing heaven and earth. If u extra fine, I fit give u one room for my house sha

Most vehicles (if not all) that leave the Canada have to be put in containers. So, u are better off looking for someone so that you can split the cost with a bigger container, which is more cost effective. However, another option is to make arrangments across the border and ship RoRo, which is cheaper if you do not necesarily have to ship from Canada.

Inspired, not that it matters but I dont think this particular vehicle was manufactured in Canada. The odometer on Canadian vehicles are in "km" not miles.

note coventianl tvs ie CRT consume a lot of load. if you want to carry a tv on a ups, you'd best get an LCD television. . go to any cyber cafe, you'll ofetn find that while the cpus are on ups, the monitors are not.

haha. . .because of Airbags, price of car don skyrocket. Airbags are safety devices and these days, almost every vehicle is equipped with airbags. They are meant to complement your seatbelt in the event of a collision, hence giving you a chance for survival.

Anyway, read below from wikipedia:

An air bag, A.K.A. a Supplementary Restraint System (SRS), an Air Cushion Restraint System (ACRS), or the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) (reflecting the air bag system's intended role as a supplement to conventional restraints such as seatbelts) is a flexible membrane or envelope. Air bags are most commonly used for cushioning, in particular for rapid inflation in the case of an automobile collision. Air bags are designed to complement conventional restraints such as seatbelts and seatbelt pre-tentioners, not replace them. The number of lives saved by airbags is hard to pin down. One study, cited below, puts the number at just under 400 per year (6,000 total), and another study indicates that air bags reduce fatalities by 8% when seatbelts are worn. Airbags also greatly increase the efficiency of seat-belts, in some cases up to 50%.

How air bags work
The design is conceptually simple - accelerometers trigger the ignition of a gas generator propellant to inflate a nylon fabric bag very rapidly, which reduces the deceleration experienced by the passenger as they come to a stop in the crash. The bag has small vent holes to allow the propellant gas to be (relatively) slowly expelled from the bag as the occupant pushes against it.

Many vehicles have several accelerometers and gyroscopes to help sense various impacts and other crash events. The different signals from these sensors are fed into a microprocessor which determines the angle of impact and the severity of the crash. Depending on the result of these calculations, the microprocessor will deploy various restraint devices such as seat belt pre-tensioners and/or air bags. Each restraint device is typically activated with one or more pyrotechnic devices commonly called an initiator or squib. The squib activates with a current pulse between 1 to 3 amperes in less than 2 milliseconds. The squib has a fuse-like conductor inside that heats the pyrotechnic material tightly packed around the conductor. When the conductor becomes hot enough, it ignites the pyrotechnic material which in turn generates hot gas. In a seat belt pre-tensioner, this hot gas is used to drive a piston that pulls the slack out of the seat belt. In an air bag, the hot gas from the squib is used to ignite solid propellent inside the air bag inflator. The burning propellent generates inert gas which rapidly inflates the air bag in approximately 20 to 30 milliseconds. An air bag must inflate quickly in order to be fully inflated by the time the forward-traveling occupant reaches its outer surface. Typically, the decision to deploy an airbag in a frontal crash is made within 15 to 30 milliseconds after the onset of the crash, and both the driver and passenger airbags are fully inflated within approximately 60-80 milliseconds after the first moment of vehicle contact. If an air bag deploys too late or too slowly, the risk of occupant injury from contact with the inflating air bag may increase. Since more distance typically exists between the passenger the instrument panel, the passenger air bag is larger and requires more gas to fill it.

During the crash, the force of the occupant going forward (toward the point of impact) forces the gas out of the air bag through its vent holes, thereby causing it to deflate. It is the deflation of the air bag that provides the cushioning effect to the occupants as they continue to be thrown forward toward the point of impact. The air bag's volume and the size of the vents in the bag are tailored to each vehicle type to dissipate the occupant's energy over time and distribute the deceleration forces across a larger portion of the occupant's body (compared to a seat belt alone).

Front air bags are not designed to deploy in side impacts, rear impacts or rollover crashes.[citation needed] Since air bags deploy only once and deflate quickly after the initial impact, they will not be beneficial during a subsequent collision. Safety belts help reduce the risk of injury in many types of crashes. They help to properly position occupants to maximize the air bag's benefits and they help restrain occupants during the initial and any following collisions.

In vehicles equipped with a rollover sensing system, accelerometers and gyroscopes are used to sense the onset of a rollover event. If a rollover event is determined to be imminent, side-curtain air bags are deployed to help protect the occupant from contact with the side of the vehicle interior, and also to help prevent occupant ejection as the vehicle rolls over.

My man, like I always tell my professional colleagues, Nigeria is one big market place and several opportunities abound. Things are beginning to open up rapidly and it will be folly to ignore Nigeria now or in the distant future (opportunity wise) unless this positive trend suddenly reverses. My advice, keep an eye in the Nigerian "market". . .if something solid comes up, dont hesitate to check in. However, do your home work properly!

Depends on how much Diamond is offering. If it's just entry level stuff, go further your education to broaden future opportunities. If we are talking serious dough, I'd think twice. . . perhaps collect my dough for a cpl years and take a leave of absence to further my studies later on.

Concerning the USA, write the GRE or GMAT depending on the school and find out their other requirements.

That's probably your best shot IF your objective is to change your visitor's status when you arrive, given your circumstance.

No, he doesnt need a US Visa. His application to the consulate in Buffalo is by mail; only on rare occasions do they ask for an interview for a study permit. If/when he is approved, he can drive to the border, and drive to the US side. He just needs to explain that he's trying to re-enter Canada. The US immigration officers, of course wont allow him in and he will be asked to make a u-turn. He drives back to the Canadian side where the paper work will be processed and he'd be given his study permit. Hundreds of people do it regularly when they change status; so the dudes at the border are aware of the procedure. Infact, sometimes, you dont even need to reach the US side; some people just park their cars at the border and walk to the "free zone" (the zone between the US and Canadian Border) and walk back into Canada where they meet with the Canadian Immigration officers.

Debosky has pointed out a few things that you have to consider. However, do not be fooled by the 3mths Visa. A Visa is an "entry" document and it's the Immigration officer at the border that determines how long you can stay in the country. In other words, the Consul has given you a three months window to travel to Canada; when you arrive, the immigration officer decides how long you stay. More often than not, the default is 6mths unless stated otherwise. In theory, you can be given a 1 day Visa and as far as you enter Canada that day, before it expires, you can stay in Canada for 6mths.

Now, if you come in and luckily get a job and your employer is willing to go through Human Resource Canada to prove that hiring an alien like you wont be detrimental to the Canadian work force, if you can scale that hurdle, you will get a work permit just by applying to the consulate in Buffalo, USA. Since you lived in motherland Africa, you will be required to undergo medicals in Canada. This whole process will definitely take more than your 6mths stay and by that time, you'd have to live the country; although, you can always ask for an extension. You are not guaranteed to get it. If you eventually get a work permit, you'd have to re-enter the contry since you are changing your status from a visitor to a "temporary resident". Most people just drive to the border for formality sake.

You did mention about your school offer in Manitoba. I must tell you manitoba is probably worse than your village (typical Rural America), only say it probably has more basic amenities. If you were to ask me, I'd advice you to take this route instead of trying to seek a job, if your intention is to change your status when you arrive. Just make sure you do not mention school or work to anyone at the border; just say "No" if you are asked. If/when you get your 6mths stay, ensure your program start date will not elapse for at least 6mths and then apply to Buffalo. Make sure your documents are in place and you'd be asked to undergo medicals. This could take up to 4mths or more before you are eventually approved; afterwards, you'd need to re-enter the country. Like I said initially, people just drive to the border for formality sake. If/when you graduate after your 1yr of study, you automatically qualify for the post graduate work permit which wont require your potential employer to  support your application. Also, you'd be more familiar with your "professional terrains" in Canada which would enable you make better choices with regards your prospects and future here. Goodluck!
