the reasoning capability of many people here is questionable.

Unfortunately for those of you happy about the situation, it only gets better. From now on, the hajj commission would be committed into following the laws thereby giving the Nigerian pilgrims the best hajj experiences.

bukatyne: and why do muslim women need male escorts? who escorts the men? the more i want to believe that women are treated equally in islam, the more facts prove otherwise! to d issue @ hand, is it only Nigerian women that were deported? if so, y?
You people just don't get it? I as a Muslim don't need you to think Islam treats women as equals to men. SO, why do you want to?

Does christianity treat women as equals to men? Isn't submission to the husband preached by the bible? Your hypocrisy makes me laugh. You all act modernized, belonging to the new world whereas your religion says the opposite of what you proclaim.

ok. so, Islam doesn't put men and women in the same positions. They don't have the same social, biological and religious responsibilities. They are seen as two distinct groups whose roles make a synergy, one that makes a perfect society. Any problems you may be having with this is yours, not ours.

Jikan Hauwa: @deols. I like your writing style. You are good writer. Read more about the mahram issue and kindly share with us. Yes, I repeat, Arab are racist particular to African(though not all) They dont even respect our highly placed officials. How can we even use a diplomatic channel they dont even care about. Let us suspend going to Hajj for a while,so they can how much we contribute to their economy(they wouldnt care, I assure you). I know why am angry with them.
thank you, but the racist part, only God Knows. I wish you wouldnt just call all Arabs racist. The ones you know may be but I don't think all of them are.

Whatever the case may be, just remember that the prophet mentioned in his last sermon that an Arab is not superior to others. SO, whoever feels superior because of his race is definitely not following the dictates of the prophet and requires some education.
if a woman has very few male relatives in her family, or if the few are not available, then what happens?

just curious.
It is like asking, what if a man does not have the money to go for hajj, what happens?

She automatically falls in the category of people who wish to go for hajj but are not able too. Not being able to could be due to finances, ill health, insanity, immaturity, e.t.c

Actions shall however be judged according to the intention.

Jikan Hauwa: well, I heard of the pairing from people who have been paired. Can you explain how the hajj commission is allowed to act as Mahram? In what book is that written. I have also heard that a group of fifty women may not need one. But I'd require a reference before believing that.

No relative of mine was involved but I feel their pain as a Woman and a fellow Nigerian. In fact more Importantly as a fellow Muslim.

Maltreating them would be wrong. They did not commit any crime to warrant that. The Nigerian government should seriously address that.

I wasnt defending the Saudis. I am more concerned about earning the respect we so much yearn.

btw, do you work with the hajj commission? who are the 'we' you are talking about. Wow! Hello. First and foremost, I do not work for the Hajj commission. Am not a scholar either. Do you know the people paired personally? Are they close 2 you? Hope it wasnt a hear say. What makes you think only Nigeria does such a thing? A person returned back with his wife when Saudi Authority adamantly refused her entry sayin he is not her husband. He narrated his ordeal in radio and i heard him. Why only Nigerians? Dont ever believe their lies that it wasnt only us. How can the Hajj commission act as Mahram? Well, am sure you know a lot about this issue. It is based on scholars concensus( though some disagree). Hadith from Bukhari and Muslims. Eg some Hadiths in Bukhari( 1038), Muslim( 133), Dawud(250): woman must travel with a Mahram. Mahram is of two types: direct blood relation or not necessarily directly blood( no marriage btw). The most important for such a rule is security and safeness of road. Now things have change! The Hajj commision may act as a protector of pilgrims as its an authority that guide..the number of people travelling(women particularly) is large. There is no concern about security as the woman isnt alone. A hadith of Bukhari(3400) foretold such a time thus leading some scholars to say a Mahram is not necessarily needed for hajj except the lesser hajj. Why do we need Saudi to respect us? Do you know what other nationals do in Saudi? Pakistanis, Indians et al. An uncle of mine nearly died there because of them(pick pocketing using sharp tools). I have more to say...
thank you for the reply.I'll try find out more about the mahram thing.

If the Saudis are treatn Nigerians in an unjust manner, the necessary diplomatic tools should be employed to stop it.

people should note that being arab doesnt in anyway make anyone a better Muslim nor does being black make any1 less of that. all the stories about them being racist doesnt shake me in anyway. I worship not the arab god but the God of mankind.

Jumu'ah's khutba today was not it at all, just like last week, the imam came in and recited what seems like a secret scroll from ancient arabia, no translation or explanation and the whole jumu'ah was done within 15mins!

How do one get recharged spiritually with this kind of format?! with the fact that the society is morally and spiritually dead.

I pray Allah continue to guide us all amin.

you should be ashamed of yourself. Muslims don't believe salvation is from anywhere. The pilgrimage is an act of worship which becomes compulsory only if you have what it takes to perform it- health, wealth, common sense, etc.

stop saying nonsense. An average Muslim does not know the name of the Saudi king let alone that of Qatar.

the people going there for trade arent only Muslims. stop saying what you have no knowledge of.

Abujabir24: I am really impressed by the saudi govt. But the mistake in this thread was wen dey said the rules of the kingdom which is a lie. That is the rule of Islam not saudi. They have notice that so many nigerian women go to saudi in the name of performing hajj but instead they become lovepeddlers there wich has bothering d authorities for so long. The fact dat d man who returned wit dem isn't even ashamed of sayin d man is his wife shld have been imprisoned. Because am really sure he is lying.
You are right about those going there for some immoral acts but you can't be sure all of those deported were. They are only unlucky that the rules are taken strictly when they decided to go. Nigerians should start doing things right.

Some people who dont fall in the category of people who should go for hajj are allowed, if they can pay for it or if they are 'big' people. that should stop.

ALl the distribution of hajj seats and same for jerusalem pilgrimage, thereby wasting government resources should also stop. Hajj becomes compulsory only when you have the means.

I was expecting many ignorant comments. I found enough on the first page. Didnt bother reading the next pages. So, I may be saying something already said by somene else.

First, if you are not a Muslim or simply unaware of the principles of hajj, it will do you more good to just keep quiet while the know hows do the talking. This matter goes beyond diplomatic ties. It is a religious one.

Nigerians need to start doing things right so they wont keep facing such ridicule as this.
call it whatever you like, In Islam a Muslim woman is expected to travel in the company of a male relative. could be her brother, husband, son, nephew. But in Nigeria, the hajj board pairs people who never knew each other as husband and wife in order to deceive the Saudis. I never liked that practice and it shouldn't be encouraged by any Muslim. Only God knows how much immorality can ensue from such a practice.

The Nigerian government spends a lot of money sponsoring people for hajj(people who may not even pray five times a day) every year, doing less on the welfare of people who actually pay for hajj. they rent the farthest places away from haram and give one of the worst services to their citizens and then expect to get the respect of other nations?

When we start doing things right, we may then start asking to be treated right.

On a serious note, majority of christians dont see a big deal in making a joke about Jesus. A Muslim(who knows Islam well) wouldn't ever insult Jesus. So, y would he allow you insult Muhammed(S.A.W). I am not in support of using violent means but Muslims would forever show their displeasure when you insult their faith. No apologies.

zayhal: @topic, very sound issues you have there deols. This handheld won't allow me type much in contribution.
you welcome.

the surname issue reminds me of a South Sudanese girl I know. It was interesting that she could recite the names of her fathers up to the tenth generation shocked. there was a cousin of hers we(friends and I) knew and she told us that girl was related to her from her third grandfather shocked shocked.

When we met her dad, he asked us of our names and when we told him, he started to ask us questions about our fore fathers grin. He seemed so proud and knew he could beat us to that(knowing our ancestors). Since then, I started to care more about genealogy. I thought it was cool to know up to ur tenth fathers grin and knowing so well that one reason the history and message of Islam was preserved is the ability to trace back who said what, nt just by his names but of those of his fathers made me appreciate more of what Islam wants us to achieve by calling ourselves by the name of our fathers.

[s]if my story isnt in sync, feel free to say so[/s]. grin
Islam › Re: Muslim Singles, Let Us Have A Talk by deols(op): 8:17pm On Sep 20, 2012
WHat exactly is wrong about these things? Are they entirely wrong? We should be careful with the use of the word, waste.

lemme start with the Northern weddings
. I know from socializing with Northerners what the gifts to the bride can be. But I don't think a list is made like someone said. it is the groom/his family that brings what they have for the bride and how rich they are determines how much things they send to the bride's family. Even the Qur'an talks about giving their mahr to them according to what is obtained by women of their class huh. Well, this is their culture and while I know some people are campaigning against it because people who may not be able to afford to buy these things would probably not marry, etc, it is not an entirely bad idea. She's after all finally bringing those things to his house.

Yoruba method
. Actually, the Yoruba bride is almost the 'cheapest'. All the omoile, iyawo ile monies are not much and people do these things just to add some cultural feel to the wedding. TO me, they don't amount to money wasting. The party is the major thing and I think that is encouraged by the prophet(walimatun Nikkah) or no be so? he said even if with a sheep? If people come from far and near to witness your day, you would want to treat them well.

Scraping the aso ebi part might be a good idea sha. But would I want one at my wedding? oh yes!!!!!!!
the 70k lace which you wont be able to wear to another party because everyone knows you wore it to the previous one can truly be called a money waster.

Some peoPle dont read before making comments. Now you'd understand why they are what they are. Smh.

The OP says the picture was taken long ago inGhana which means the people claiming it was done in Nigeria and by the Muslims of the North are liars whose aim is to give a false representation of Muslims.
Islam › Re: 5 Examples Of Outstanding Muslim Tolerance by deols(f): 6:40pm On Sep 20, 2012
The better representation of Islam can only come from its earliest times. So, presenting facts that you term old are just the way to do it. That way, non Muslims can get to see that violence isnt deep rooted and Muslims could go back to practicing Islam in its unadultrated form.

A very big challenge faced by Muslims is that of knowledge. Majority are too preoccupoed with trying to make a living that the very basic knowledge of how Islamic rulings are derived is lacking.

For if every Muslim understands that some verses of the Qur'an, wrongly quoted by non Muslims as supporting violence are for specific times and instances, then maybe we'd have less of the so called Mujahideen who think everything done against the nonMuslims is Jihad.
