geometricaxis: we know, we know SE numbers went down by 2m in 2015 when they introduced PVC. but those are the figures for 2015 and they will come about the same way in 2019.
the point is common sense would didctate to the guy talking about Kogi and kwara that this is a game of numbers, it doesnt matter who defects if they are defecting in states with small no of voters and your opponent is controlling states with huge numbers ...whether manipulated or not, the figures are official on record and therefore replicable. 1. On top of your wonderful analysis, the APC lost marginal players with zero capacity to win re-election back to Abuja especially considering the fact that they won their seats based on PMB's popularity and not the other way around. 2. APC is actually winning, they have even consolidated their gains and electoral base by sweeping every state in the SW into their corner and winning elections all over the country continuously. 3. The North is already in the bag doe APC, they have cornered the SW and what's left? The SE/SS and we've seen the strong showing all over the SE/SS from Anambra to Eboyin, Imo, Rivers and now Akwa Ibom with Akpabio's massive electoral votes that Saraki and his minions can not match. APC is actually winning and they have not lost anything.. |

[s] UcheSecondus: ......says he deserves pity
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has said that it's unfortunate that Senate minority leader Senator Godswill Apkabio chose to walk against the tide to endanger his fine political career.
Prince Secondus said that he finds it very strange that anybody would go into a sinking ship at a time every other person is finding their way out of it.
A statement from the National Chairman's media office signed by the media adviser, Ike Abonyi said that whatever caused Akpabio's action must have been for self preservation and not borne out of any rational strategic political decision.
The National Chairman said that Senator Akpabio's decision does not enjoy the blessing of the people of Akwa Ibom whose mandate he enjoyed for eight years as state governor and nearly four years now as a senator.
" I cannot fathom any reason why on earth Senator Akpabio should work against the tide, moving at opposite direction to a place every reasonable persons are escaping from.
"He deserves our pity because whatever would make somebody to chose bad for good is clearly one that he should be prayed for for salvation especially given the fact that wolves are waiting for his arrival to devour him.
"How on earth can anybody who has his eyes wide open be seen walking into danger knowingly.
Prince Secondus lashed out at the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for arm twisting and intimidating people into their drowning boat ostensibly to ruin and disintegrate the person involved.
He called on the people of Akwa Ibom to be wise and know when to turn their back from a leader directing them to danger.
" I urge you to remain focused and continue to give support to your hard working governor His Excellency Emmanuel Udom as he remains unrelenting in the delivering of democracy to the people.
The National Chairman said that Nigerians have long turned their back on the APC after it became manifest that it has nothing good to offer.
He said that the mission to save our democracy and rescue our country is already on track and no amount of coercion and threat will change what God has already endorsed.
Finally, Prince Secondus declared that the PDP rescue train has since left the station and picking democrats along for the 2019 final destination as he urged remaining democrats still in APC to make haste and join the winning team in a rebranded and repositioned political platform.

Politics › Daura And A SW Gov. Shopped For A SE Replacement For Osinbajo by deomelo(op): 6:38am On Aug 08, 2018 |
For watchers of the power configuration in the Buhari administration, the sack of Lawal Daura, former Director-General of State Security Services, yesterday was the end of a chapter in a complex power play at the presidential villa.
Recalled from retirement on July 2, 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari to head the secret service, Lawal, a close associate of the president from his Daura homestead, was destined to be a major pillar of the power structure of the Buhari presidency.
And in the bipolar struggle for power at the presidency, Lawal understandably aligned with Mamman Daura, an erstwhile journalist and powerful business mogul nephew of Buhari, whose enormous influence on the president is well known. On the other side of the polar was Babagana Monguno, the National Security Adviser, who had on his side, Ibrahim Magu, the controversial boss of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Coming from the Daura homestead of the president and being a close ally of his powerful nephew, the former head of the secret service easily became the feet of the ‘cabal’ at the villa with so much gut and gusto that he could take any of the other power contenders without much ado.
This much played out in two instances. First was the controversial security report the DSS wrote to the Senate that effectively blocked Magu’s confirmation as the chairman of the EFCC. This brought him eyeball to eyeball with Osinbajo, who was favourably disposed to Magu’s appointment. In spite of the efforts of the vice president, who clearly by implication had pitched his tent with the NSA camp, Senate confirmation was withheld. But using his vast knowledge of the law, the vice president exploited a loophole in the 1999 Constitution to maintain Magu in office in an acting capacity.
That fight was barely over when another battle front was opened through the clash between Magu’s EFCC and the National Intelligence Agency over the latter’s safe house that was invaded by the former where about N13billion in several foreign currencies were seized. With the Director-General of the agency, Ambassador Ayo Oke sent on suspension and made to face an administrative enquiry at the instance of Osinbajo, who headed the panel with Monguno and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami, as members, the stage was set for the second fight.
Perhaps motivated by the need to protect the independence of the intelligence community, Lawal stood behind Oke and offered to appear before the panel. Osinbajo working with Monguno blocked Lawal. And in spite of his working alliance with the Malami, Lawal could not stop Osinbajo from producing an adverse report on Oke.
But as it happened in the Magu’s confirmation fight, the NIA investigation has effectively ended in a stalemate as nothing concrete has happened since the report was submitted to the president more than a year ago. Osinbajo, no doubt, saw the hidden hand of Lawal in this.
While Osinbajo might have seen Lawal as a law enforcement officer who seem to have taken undue advantage of his close association with the president to become a law on to himself, answerable to no one, the former head of secret service felt he had a responsibility to defend the independence and integrity of the intelligence community from the prying eyes of the non-initiates, including Osinbajo and Monguno.
Intelligence community watchers think though that Lawal was on the right path and they praised him for elevating the status of the DSS and preventing it from been humiliated. But he probably allowed such silent praises to get into his head and thought he could act with impunity. During the DSS invasion of the residence of some justices of the Supreme Court and judges of high courts, Osinbajo was said to have expressed deep concern quietly that Lawal was going too far outside the law. But Magu expressed his own objection openly.
Meanwhile, the DSS under Lawal had become bad news in the human rights community, with most abuse of law that had darkened the image of the Buhari administration attributed to it. Its refusal to release former NSA Sambo Dasuki and Shiite Leader El-Zakzaky after several courts had granted them multiple bails were the main reference point of anyone who wanted to carpet the administration for rights abuse.
But had Lawal limited his fight to struggle for power over security issues, presidency sources told THISDAY, he probably might have survived. He was said to have strayed into the political tough, allying with Mamman Daura and a governor from the South-west to shop for a South-east replacement for Osinbajo in the impending 2019 presidential election. This, more than anything else, the sources said must have put him at loggerheads with south-west leaders in the APC.
Yesterday when the siege to the National Assembly occurred, with the attendant embarrassment to the federal government. The former DSS boss feeling not particularly responsible to the acting president, sent his men to the National Assembly, without the authorization of the acting president, to provide safe passage for federal legislators, who wanted to effect leadership change at the Senate.
The move backfired hugely, and the public outcry as well as the anger it generated within the international community was the perfect chance Osinbajo needed to ease out Lawal, who hitherto had become untouchable and above the law.

SaharaReporters understands that the decision to sack Daura was taken at about 4am on Tuesday.
I guess you can see the part where they said the decision was taken. He only waited so as to get Buhari's approval before announcing it.
The said meeting wasn't a plenary session so I don't see any reason APC Senators should be in the National Assembly complex as early as 7am when they are on recess. Besides, the said meeting was supposed to be attended by the National Assembly leaders only not all members of the National Assembly.
Whether you guys like it or not, that siege was planned. Saraki wanted to whip up public sentiments for himself but the Presidency was smarter. And the clueless saraki lost his DSS errand boy boy in the process..Not a good way for saraki to show his hand

Politics › Re: Saraki, Dogara Issue Joint Statement On National Assembly Invasion by deomelo: 5:23pm On Aug 07, 2018 |
[s] TheTrueSeeker: Following the on-going invasion of the National Assembly complex by men of the Department of State Services (DSS) in which legislators and members of staff, including the Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Omolori, who is the administrative head of the Federal legislature, were harassed and prevented from accessing their offices, Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara have condemned the action of the security agents and described it as another attempt to subevert the nation’s democracy.
In a statement jointly signed by the two presiding officers of both Chambers of the National Assembly, Saraki and Dogara stated that the heavy presence of armed security men who unnecessarily militarized the legislative complex and harassed legislators and the workers in the complex could not be justified in a democracy.
The Senate President and Speaker further noted that today was a sad day for democracy as very early in the morning, they got reports backed by video and pictures, from members of staff of the National Assembly, their colleagues from both chambers and other individuals, about the heavy presence of the security personnel who insisted that nobody would enter the complex except certain Senators who were to be conveyed into the complex in a Coaster bus.
“By 6.30 am, the reports started coming in and by 7am, there were pictures and video online showing armed security men preventing Senators and Honourable members from coming into the Complex. Some of our colleagues then mobilized other members in both chambers from their respective abode so that they could pressurize the Security men from allowing them to gain entry.
“Obviously, the public outcry from Nigerians and members of the international community against this illegality, this desecration of the sanctity of the legislature and this flagrant abuse of powers forced the government to relax the directives given to the security men as they later allowed the legislators to walk from the main gate into the foyer. Still the lawmakers were not allowed to drive in, in their vehicles and were denied access into the main building housing their offices.
“It is not clear what the plan of the government is but information reaching us indicated that some Senators who are pro-executive arm are being camped somewhere here in Abuja and they are being compelled to sign an impeachment notice that would later be brought to the Assembly complex. The Senate Chamber will now be forced open to enable an illegal change of leadership take place in the Senate.
“It should be noted that the Senate formally adjourned on July 24, 2018 and it stands adjourned. To reconvene, there is a process which has to be followed. Also, it should be clear that these Senators who are camped somewhere know the procedure for changing the leadership of the Senate. Both the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency officials masterminding this illegality know that they do not have the numbers to lawfully carry out this action.
“Therefore, we call on members of the international community to view this development as a coup against democracy. This is a throw-back to the inglorious days of military rule where dissent is not tolerated and freedom of association and other fundamental human rights are willfully and carelessly violated.
“We urge Nigerians and the international community to condemn this illegal invasion of the National Assembly complex and the attempt to asphyxiate the legislature as undemocratic, uncivilized and irresponsible.
“Let us use this opportunity to thank our colleagues in the Senate and House of Representatives who immediately mobilized to resist this coup against democracy. Their action will be recorded as one taken at a time when the soul of this country is being imperilled. They have acted to avert the breakdown of constitutionalism and collapse of the rule of law. They have stood up to dictatorship and demonstrated that this country belongs to all of us.
“We also thank members of the press, local and international, and all Nigerians whose support for the cause of democracy have sustained us this far.
Following this unpleasant development, the joint leadership meeting slated for this afternoon has been postponed till further notice because under the prevailing circumstances, we cannot guarantee the safety of the 20 members from both chambers expected at the meeting”, Saraki and Dogara stated.
Signed
