PoliticsWhy Dethroning Of Sanusi Shouldn't Be Compared With The Deposition Of Oba Benin by DeRay98(op): 8:40am On Mar 12, 2020
Hon. Akugbe wrote...

OBA OVONRAMWEN AND EMIR SANUSI: AN UNWORTHY JUXTAPOSITION

Following the recent deposition of Emir Sanusi of Kano by the Kano state government led by Mr Dollar-Agbada Ganduje, many roadside political analysts have been attempting, to no avail, to compare Oba Ovonramwen of Benin kingdom with Emir Sanusi in terms of how they both left their palaces. What a fatal accident. Au secours !

There's therefore a need to speak a bit in writing. Oba Ovonramwen was not deposed. He went into exile on a mutual arrangement with the British Colonial Government and remained Oba of Benin in Calabar for 18 years during which a Regent in the person of Chief Agho Ogbeide-Oyo Obaseki of Benin oversaw the kingdom on his behalf while homage was still being paid to him in Calabar by the Benins living there and in faraway Benin.

Ovonramwen established a Palace annexe in Calabar and the British treated him as king there. He had slaves, married more wives, had more children and lived a good, noble life. Until his demise, he was still Oba of Benin though in the diaspora, and he was still being consulted on core traditional matters that overwhelmed the British and their appointed Regent, Obaseki. He never lost the throne but the Benin geographical location for the 18 more years he lived. When he died, his son Oba Eweka II took over the throne, actively, and passed it on to later generations.

Just so we are clear, the British continued to recognize Ovonramwen as Oba of Benin until his death; otherwise, they would have simply crowned Obaseki (their insider before and during the war) as Oba in his lifetime or even beyond. The fact that they did not do this suggests that they must have had plans to assist him in returning to his Benin palace had he not fallen ill and joined his ancestors when he did in Calabar.

Notably, when Oba Ovonramwen joined his ancestors in 1914, it was the British that facilitated the process that led to the coronation of his son, Oba Eweka II, what signifies that they recognized him as Oba until his passage. The British did not replace him with another Oba because he was irreplaceable as long as he was alive and king.

So, I do not see how his history is similar to Sanusi's. He was an independent monarch and Sanusi was not. Conventional warfare was brought to his domain but not to Sanusi's. Sanusi was dethroned by a government that enthroned him ab initio, which made him subordinate to it from day one. Ovonramwen was not enthroned by the British and was therefore not subordinate to them from beginning. He fought to defend his territory, warding off external aggression for six solid months before he agreed to a truce to be exiled, so as to bring the war to an end, and he did so to save his people from extenuation; and that's a noble, prestigious act. No king replaced Ovonramwen once he voluntarily went into exile to save his people and his land but Sanusi has since been replaced with immediate effect.

There's honestly no basis for comparison. If people must compare, there are more recent, similar and relevant cases in the north like the deposition of Ado Bayero the Emir of Kano and grandfather of the just deposed Emir (1963) and Dasuki the Sultan of Sokoto who was deposed by Abacha. Why Benin?

Benin kingdom is too far, isn't it? How did these mischievous analysts transport their analysis all the way to Benin kingdom? By flight, by train or by vanishing? They should take it through the same route back to the North, please

Rubbish
His so called intelligence is self promotion
We heard more in the media about Sanusi in one month than we heard about Soludo or Emefiele in their entire tenure.
When you watch a football game and you notice the referee more than the players something is wrong.
CBN governor s around the world are known for reticence and obscurity not winning bogus Man of the year awards.
Why should a referee win man of the match award?
I have seen nothing to show Sanusi as more intelligent than average.
Is he as intelligent or knowledgeable as Ezekwesili?
He went to Kings College around the same time as Saraki and was not outstanding in anyway. He speaks English with a cultivated access but that is an issue of social class in Nigeria not intelligence. If you grew up in Ikoyi in the 70s you would sound like him even if you didn't attend university
There are millions of more intelligent Nigerians who cannot get a job because of background
Why are you taking it personal?

RomanceRe: Wife Confronts Her Husband And His Side Chic At Benin Hotel, Tears Her Dress by DeRay98(m):
Why some married men are motivated to look out, some easily resort to available ladies because it's a known fact that lots of married women tend to feel secured and settled after marriage that they just become boring, carefree and lackadaisical towards their husbands.
The men who suffer most are the good godly/god fearing men whose devotion to God keeps or helps them to overlook the attitude of their wives.
Many come to a point where they feel their husbands demand sex as if its food.
Wives who don't trust their husbands tend to do more to keep their husbands looking forward to coming home knowing that other ladies are prying around for unhappy husbands to take.
I don't like or support it but I have experienced it first hand.

Oshiomole was in Labour party, which was not known, it was Tinubu that encouraged Oshiomole to run on ACN . Did Obaseki has any political history in 2007? Obaseki that was Dangote employee .You this PDP apologist sef
Tinubu had no influence in Edo politics, whether he encouraged Oshiomhole or not didn't give the political structures he landed with as Labour party didn't have it either.
People surrendered their structures to push him and he was funded to a large extent by Obaseki and he openly admitted it. If Obaseki wasn't instrumental to his political power and influence in Edo, how come he had to push and campaign for same Obaseki who had no political history and ask the odds or did he just think he could use him as a stooge to his own ends?
You empty belled hungry party rats always see everyone else as political opponents...

These are the comments of enemies of the progress of our people and state.
People who hail "strong men" above strong institutions, people who think about what they can individually gain rather than promoting a leadership that can provide quality administration and society advancements.
The advanced societies that we all admire and desire to relocate to were not created nor operate on "political strong men" ideologies that have bedevilled our country and stagnated us.
Oshiomhole was given and supported political structures that he didn't build in Edo, but by other people who welcomed him home.
He was funded by the same Obaseki and his corporate allies and given behind-the-scene intellectual and economic advice.
Today, he has become a demigod and is trying to put the interest of his "chop-chop" foot soldiers ahead of the state.
He has no idea what will become of him when Edo people descend on him within and outside political spheres.
By the time he realises it it will be too late for him and his cronies.
Nonsense.

Tyson fury is a very risky fight for Joshua, The risk is lesser if he fights Wilder. Take the less risky fight and still make a whole lot of money. As for the money, people will be willing to pay more to watch Joshua fight Wilder than any other fighter right now apart from Tyson fury. If the fight is in Britain, the tickets price will be very high and they will still sell out the biggest stadium in the UK. Joshua takes a less risky fight and still makes all the dough.
Wilder has never had the ace, he schemed his way to that one belt and was afraid to fight for the rest because elite boxers would expose him.
He took the first fight with Fury because he felt Fury was just recovering from mental health issues and was ring rusty.
He had no idea that Fury is well schooled and polished cerebral boxer.
Once Fury survived his old trick of a right hand punch, Fury was talking him to the depth of cerebral boxing which Wilder lacks.

shocked

As an Oviedopataki with royal Benin blood coursing through my veins.
I say this with all sense of humility that our people are overly intolerant.
We are even more fanatical than fundamental Islamic terrorists of the Middle East.

Irrespective of religion, age, education or exposure...the Bini man's ONLY problem is the over reverence of the Oba and his imaginary powers.
We attach too much importance to tradition when tradition has not helped us.

We worship the Oba but have zero respect for God.

If only they knew that the Oba is just a regular mortal whose privileges are the ones he has been given by his ignorant subjects.
A man who can be messed up like the Ojuromi of Uromi or like the Emir of Kano.

The Bini man fears him because according to folklore, he has all the powers.
But if his curse was that potent, how come he has not cursed the marauding Fulani herdsmen ravaging all of Ovia North or brought peace to the warring APC in his domain.

It is a great shame, that a University graduate and a Pastor will believe that a mere man can utter a word and all of Benin will be submerged in water.
Yet he can't utter same and let the Fulani Herdsmen violence end.

He can not wave his wand and cause the "Isiohor rainy season River" in front of S&T barracks to vanish.

Every good student of history knows that a Military administrator has once successfully given an Oba of Benin the Sanusi treatment.

So why all the reverence?

Please we must allow Chioma Akpotha be.
We must even thank her for showing off our already dead culture.
And the truth be told, she portrayed what we are actually known for.

Our ladies are famous world over only because of the latent power in their waists cleverly depicted by Chioma.

Let's live and let live.
Oba gha a to kpere.
Impersonation! Pretending to be a Bini man to thread down a Bini man.
No Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa will tolerate anybody desecrating their cultures why do it to the Binis?
