Which is crazy. Lagos as a state is the only state that owes over $1 billion dollars in external debt. No other state comes close to half of Lagos' debt.

It's also the same domestically, with Lagos owing close to a trillion naira in domestic debt. Again, no other state comes close to half of Lagos' debt.

We know how taxed we are here in Lagos and to be honest, all these IGR talk is beginning to look like hogwash because the debts have been mounting every quarter.

Then you'd see stupid things like these in their expenditure.

Some of the expenditures which call for further scrutiny are itemised in the images below:

👉 40bn awarded for a Blue Line operator that is not yet named.

👉218bn awarded for Phase 2 of the Blue Line project when the Phase 1 is yet to begin full operations despite being 12 years behind schedule after consuming 70bn.

👉Billions awarded to specific companies AEC & Iroko Capital for operations that can cause conflict of interest and should be way cheaper

👉 70bn for repair and upgrade of a section of an existing road. This amount is half the budget for Ministry of works.

👉 10bn for an IPP that was originally intended to be financed by the concessionaire but somehow finds its way into LASG expenditures.

👉 Support Services to the tune of 8bn which exceeds the parent agency, LASRRA's budget two and a half times over.

👉 2bn for provision of rechargeable fans, rechargeable bulbs and fridge for Office of the Deputy Governor.

👉 7m for air fresheners (diffusers).

I just wrote an open letter to the Governor on Public Procurement awards reported by LASG for the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2023, highlighting a number of issues for further scrutiny and remedial action. Judicious use of public funds is always important, and is especially so now. - Funso Doherty

The ADC gubernatorial candidate for Lagos State, shared four images with a number of carefully analysed expenditures which appeared bogus and could hardly be justified with today's current realities.

You probably don't know what's up with her. Just give her the space she needs. It's not easy for any of our young people that goes out there.

I have quite a number of family members and friends out there and for some of them, I happen to listen to their stories while sorting themselves out.

It's okay to listen to their rants as they don't have as much listening ear over there. It is also frustrating for me as I can't do much to help out. But if there's one thing I learnt, it's not to hold their absences against them in their early days. They need it a lot.

This country is in the same shoes as Nigeria; weakening currency, waning economy and a crushing debt burden.

Malawi's government have risen up to the reality of their crushing debt profile and waning economy by cutting costs, as any country under such conditions would. Their external debt is about 80% of their nation's GDP. Although their population is around 20 million, the government have put in place, drastic actions to cut losses, look inwards and stabilize the economy.

In comparison, Nigeria's exteral debt is edging towards 70% of our GDP, having being on a meteoric rise in the past few years. With a population over 10 times what Malawi will have to deal with, there are no strict measures in place yet to curtail wasteful ventures as the last budget unveiled by the government contained a lot of frivolous items, not in tune with today's realities.

President Lazarus Chakwera announced austerity measures aimed at healing the economy.

Malawi is battling an economic crisis that has led to fuel shortages, inflated food prices, and a shortage of foreign exchange. Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera has suspended all foreign trips by government officials, including himself.

The move, announced in a nationally televised address on Wednesday night, was part of what he called tough measures to heal the nation’s economy.

He also directed all ministers who are currently outside the country to return home and said the suspension will be in place until March next year.

“Any travel deemed absolutely necessary by anyone during that period must be submitted to my office for my personal authorisation,” Chakwera said.

The president unveiled a range of austerity measures, including cutting by 50 percent fuel entitlements for cabinet ministers and senior government officials. He would lead by example by curtailing his travel plans, including cancelling his attendance at the COP28 climate change conference in Dubai later this month.

As part of the measures, he also directed the minister of finance to include provisions for a reasonable wage increase for all civil servants in the midyear budget review.

And he ordered a lowering of income tax on individuals, so that workers whose incomes have lost value are helped with a “lower tax burden”.

I mean can the executive sacked the lead judicial arm of government in the State? It will never possible. The judiciary at the centre will save justice Adepele Ojo from the sack. As you see the judiciary, they are very strong and much discipline in handling their issues. As far as I’m concerned, Justice Adepele Ojo will be returned back to her seat by the same judiciary. Already the National industrial court as ordered a retraining order not the executive to sack the CJ. By next month, this same court will nullify the sacking of the CJ and the executive will be running to the court to get their own order and that’s where the executive will have great problem. It is a game now.

Yeah. I remember reading the same stuff from the Onnoghen proponents.

Like I said, that's the problem with precedence.
