How did the Igbos welcome the colonial masters and what was the reaction of the colonial masters to the sort of welcome they received from the Igbos? Did any of those reactions include incarceration? Let's begin from there.
We can also have a conversation about how convenient the British found it to imprison any Igbo person at the slightest hint of a conflict without hearing them out, but let's keep that for another day. The numbers don't lie, so do the facts.
PS: Adults are supposed to be capable of complete thoughts, but if all adults were, there'd be fewer cases of idiots growing old too.
Well, to be fair, the Estate the OP shared is still in South West, Nigeria though, even if it's in Lagos, but let's just pretend it's in Ogun for the sake of the subject matter 😊
Lol.. Why exactly would a person be threatened by people gathering to eat a meal?
A good number of those people may have resided in the South West at one point or the other, and got endeared to the delicacy.
It's unlikely I'd be caught travelling a far distance just to eat 'a foreign dish' but that's more to my dislike to spending time on the road than anything. Either ways, it's no reason to invalidate their choice of being there.
femisplash: The fact that OBJ and GRV were vehemently against a yoruba presidency,
It's no longer about Tinubu's person; it's now about Yoruba Presidency. Osibanjo's candidature would have been a Calabar presidency, I reckon. The lies you tell yourselves to sleep at night.
Enjoy the sweet sha. Last I heard, it's going round.
Oyindamolah: Are you sure? 72k per month on a salary of 60k?
It's calculated yearly. It's 72k per year in this case but only because the person earns 60k per month/720k yearly. The more they earn, the higher the tax percentage, going by the tax bands.
The Imo state Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ward chairman for Ife/Akpodim/Chokoneze Ward, Ezinihitte Mbaise council area, Smith Chiedoziem Anyanwu, has been murdered.
The incident was confirmed to newsmen in Owerri, on Friday by the Party’s Director of New Media, Lancelot Obiaku.
Obiaku said: “It is true that the incident happened.” However, he did not comment further on the circumstances surrounding the murder of the PDP ward chairman. It was reported that the ugly development happened last Thursday.
But as at the time of filing this report, eyewitnesses said: "He was killed in the presence of his wife. The assailants were two in number, and rode on a motorbike. On arrival, they met his wife and asked her for her husband. As soon as they sighted, and identified him, they fired several shots at him and left only when they confirmed he had taken his last breath."
“The Ward Chairman’s murder has shaken both the PDP family and his community to their very foundation. Coming on the heels of the technical knockout the Party suffered in the November 11, 2023 Governorship election in the State, his murder couldn’t have been more depressing."
At the time of filing this report, the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Henry Okoye, was yet to respond to an enquiry on the matter.
odemeetu1: At my work place, with the little 60k one is earning my employer said we have to start paying Tax to lagos state government
How much might be 60k tax
60k per month means 720k per year. That means you will pay 72k per month. Here's the breakdown of the bands.
On the first 300k, you will pay 7% tax which is 21k. On the next 300k, you will pay 11% tax which is 33k. That remains 120k and you will pay 15% tax which is 18k. The total is 72k.
Nigeria family database is poor for now so little hope for removing taxes on some expenses like child education, dependents expenses and so on.
Bigchristo: They don’t need your NIN to create Tax ID, there’s what we called TIN Tax Payers identification cards I have it back then when I was working In Nigeria, this information is out of context, NIN is a person stuff that ought to be protected otherwise it can land you in serious trouble imagine someone using your NIN to register a phone number for kidnapping. Nigeria don’t have Data security so everyone needs to be careful
Oh.. The NIN was requested to create a Tax ID for new employees in one of the organizations I work with, that's why I remember.
One must be careful though. The way Nigeria as a people are very careless with data privacy is very disturbing.
Well, if they got a valid C of O for their property, they should pursue the matter and get compensation. If they didn't, well, they'd have learnt a hard lesson to not build out of residential areas. I saw some of those houses, and God knows it must have taken half a man's lifetime earnings to raise a good number of them.
My area is experiencing a lot of flooding when it rains. I've seen what obstructing drainage patterns and plains can do. So while I tend to sympathise with my brothers on their loss, I'm also realistic to the dangers building against plans portend.
I'm not sure if the message is from Federal Government, but it is normal that your workplace should have your NIN, for identification purposes. If I'm to take a wild guess, they probably want to create tax IDs for them.
Our concern is just that we do not really do much by the way of data security.

EXPOSED: The Man Lagos Gov’t ‘Paid N2.3m to Supply DPO Pamphlets’ Is a Mechanic — And He Supplied Nothing
On Friday evening, Funso Doherty, the 2023 Lagos governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), published records of Lagos State’s expenditures in Q2 and Q3 of 2023.
Among the records published was a June 16, 2023 payment by Tayo Ayinde, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s chief of staff, to Adebiyi Lateef Adebowale, a 33-year-old Lagos resident, for the replacement of liquid fragrance in Sanwo-Olu’s office.
Ayinde paid Adebowale’s ARC44 Global Enterprises a sum of N7,475,000. He also paid the business the sum of N2,300,000 for “production of telephone directory pamphlet of divisional police officers (DPOs) and emergency response agencies in Lagos State” , according to records released by the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency.
Both payments were made on June 16 to the same business, and both amount to N9,775,000.
On Monday, FIJ visited ARC44 Global Enterprises’ registered address to see what this business was into and find out how Adebowale secured the contract to deliver fragrances and pamphlets.
When FIJ visited the Bariga area of the state, we searched for businesses matching the name the state government paid to, but this effort bore no fruits.
After making our way to 10 Ayoola Lawal Street, we met an aged woman who operated a kiosk in front of the building, but this woman knew no one bearing Adebowale. She also did not know any business called ARC44 Global Enterprises.
We circled round 10A and 10B but got no result. When we returned to the woman in front of her kiosk, she requested a description of the man, and we gave his full name, business name and the contracts the state government paid him for.
“Lati? Na mechanic he be o!” she exclaimed in Pidgin English. “We know am here as Adebiyi Lati. Na very quiet boy. He no de print or sell anything. Na mechanic. Printing press no de here.”
Lati was not home at the time of our visit, as another resident would confirm to us. No one would give us their names or numbers, but they took ours.
In the evening, Lati called us to find out why we were looking for him. In the guise of wanting to order flyers and pamphlets, we asked him if he could produce 1,000 wedding flyers, and if he had supplied pamphlets to police DPOs as claimed on the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency (LASPPA) website.
“I will produce it for you; no problem,” Lati told us when we asked if he could produce for us. When we asked if he produced pamphlets for the police, he said, “Pamphlets for DPOs? No o!”
We asked of his fragrance contract, and he replied, “Why are you asking these types of questions?” He dropped the call afterward.
He told us he did not produce anything of such nature. When we tried calling him back, he was busy on another call. We tried some more, and he finally responded.
He refused to comment on whether he was a mechanic or not, but he said he owned the business.
“All the contracts were issued by the procurement agency and were delivered,” he told us. “Go and meet them if you have any questions,” he said.
On Monday, FIJ called Gboyega Akosile, to share our findings, and he denied them. “No contractor would speak with you. “Maybe you got the wrong person. Take the procurement agency to court and see. The business is four months old, but there are ways procurement people do their thing and they would tell you there is a clause that allows them give contracts to any business. You can open a business today and get a contract. Those fragrances cost about $1,000 per one, and they got about eight of them."

Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of Hamas co-founder Sheikh Hassan Yousef, spoke out at the UN on Monday about the horrors perpetrated by Hamas. Youssef spoke on Hamas terror attacks, such as suicide bombings carried out against Israeli civilians, and their indoctrination of the population in Gaza – especially children.
In this video excerpt, he called out Hamas of gambling with people's lives for political gain. He said the game plan of Hamas had always been to sacrifice thousands of life and Israel takes the blame. This is why they dug tunnels under schools and hospitals.
He also pointed out how they misfired rockets to bring down a hospital and put out a propaganda to blame the destruction on Israel. He said if Hamas is not eradicated, it will be an inspiration for all radicals around the world to blackmail the world and bring democracy to their knees.
He concluded by saying if Israel fails in Gaza, all of us, will be next.
Lagos debacles is uncovering a lot of rot in the system.
Kudos to the ADC governorship aspirant for kick-starting this wave of citizen's consciousness on how their commonwealth are being looted and 'accounted for'.
