Death, too abominable to discuss?
CultureWhy Are People Buried Late After Death? by DisGuy(op): 9:32pm On Aug 31, 2011
Dont really know where this fits in , culture or religion

As the title say really, I have always wonder why some people are buried so late, I know in some cases, the cause of death needs to be investigated especially in the west

two recent examples in, Christy Essien-Igbokwe (may her soul rest in peace) she died June 30 and will be buried September 9th

Sam Loco Efe- Died 7 August and will be buried October 21

Sorry I'm just using these as they are well known.

Is it the preparation for the casket or getting family and friends together to fit in to the family plans?

Why the delay

and what is the condolence book for?
PoliticsRe: Sw: What Is Next? by DisGuy: 10:52pm On Aug 30, 2011
$57billion whooooooooooooooooaw na wetin self, even with all the talk of cheap labour in Africa our projects are madly expensive
I think it well ahead of its time, they programme should be looked into again and brought up when money is coming in, even as a ppp the state government will end up coughing out a lot and the 'ordinary farmer, house owner' will be too loud to ignore

250km/hour na wetin sef

PoliticsRe: Nairaland - Constructive Or Destructive? by DisGuy: 7:27pm On Aug 30, 2011
but the criticism is not affecting the Nigerian government

Think people are just airing their opinions frustrations and observations, there are solutions in every criticism it's left to thick skinned people to pick out what's good to them.

werepeLeri:
Tai Sholarin, Gani Fawehinmi, Beko, Falana, etcetc- die hard critics- constructive critics. But Nairaland is now full of kids behind laptops whining at every given opportunity but never profeering a good solution. So, what has NL turned into?
You want to censor the age and type of people that comment on Nigerian issues?

FamilyRe: Is It Compulsory To Wear Identical Outfits For Introduction? by DisGuy: 8:08pm On Aug 29, 2011
Iranoladun:
@Ileke Idi

'Introduction  ceremony' from a good cultural background in Yoruba land is suppose to be seen as such that you are still perceived to be living and under the control of your parents as a well-brought up girl who is actually seeking the family's consent to go ahead and marry the man or vice versa.  So you wear your own outfit while the man wear his own.  When the family have done their background checks both ways
and they have given their nod for the union to progress then you start planning wedding and then it is okay to start buying same wears in preparation for your wedding.

Of course this is no longer applicable in most union nowadays. e.g 'igbalode' Yoruba i.e. Lagos type where girl is already living in bobo's house and have gotten pregnant before the family even know the man. In fact it is the girls parent who will be worrying the girl to bring her 'husband people self grin
I have always wanted to ask, what is this background check? how is it done?
they want to find out if there's a curse on the family or employment history and credit reference ?
Do they get people to find past girlfriends and babymama?
BusinessRe: "nigeria Sat X Performing Very Well" by DisGuy: 5:35pm On Aug 29, 2011
Litmus:
Most likely Nigerian Engineers did quite a lot to build the thing. Anyone who knows anything about white people, media and reporting, will tell you that they, whites, often severely underplay the achievements of ethnic minorities and take a huge credit themselves for everything. Thus for instance the British fought and brought peace to Sierra Leone in only two weeks but Nigeria played no part.  So it has gone down in history that the British brought an end to the war in Sierra Leone.

If Nigeria is mentioned in any article to do with this satellite, and whites are involved, then it is almost certain that they do so  only because Nigeria did quite a lot. Whites always take as much credit as they can for things, study the news and try and remember past events and let it inform your future thinking.
It could also be a deliberate attempt to massive contractors ego to get future contracts, this is good pr for nasrda and sstl, there are cheaper satellite builders out there, they wont want to lose to the chinese

Damn i hate being cynical!

We just want it to have direct impact, like the MainOne Cable did and the Glo undersea cable, we all heard the benefits of the satellites in theory but Not a single word relating to nigeria about the benefit of the previous satellite

Unity bank pays less than First bank, all hands are not equal, they should move over to the private sector if they think they deserve more or simply apply for jobs in Oyo

Kwara is a small state

A top ranking official said government would engage in paradigm shift in its dealings with the Boko Haram”. This, it was gathered, is based on fresh intelligence “that the group may not be pursuing any agenda on its own steam but on the prompting of some powerful and influential forces whose forte is largely politics”.
Fresh Intelligence LMAO, what happened to the other intelligence about knowing the sponsors?

PoliticsRe: How Chinese Firm Sabotages Power Supply – Fg by DisGuy: 12:04am On Aug 23, 2011
kalokalo:
I laugh at Nigeria grin grin. That's what you get when politicians and their appointees run critical sectors like power instead of competent managers and technical experts which you can only get by private companies running it for profit. The sheer incompetence and corruption in government run establishments in Nigeria is appalling.  cry sad

Its even sadder that we are now blaming the Chinese for national incompetence? Which makes me wonder why the only sectors that seem to work well in Nigeria(upstream oil and gas, telecoms, airlines, shipping, manufacturing etc) are manned by expatriates. Even firms owned and controlled by Nigerians like Dangote, GLO and Arik are powered by expatriates in both technical and managerial capacities.

I shake my head. The solution to these power problems is if it is run strictly as a commercial sector (e.g telecoms, upstream oil and gas) and not as a political sector to be handled by inept and corrupt politicians and civil servants. This means PRIVATIZATION.
At this rate even the Privatization process itself will require EXPATRIATE !!

PoliticsRe: How Chinese Firm Sabotages Power Supply – Fg by DisGuy: 8:00am On Aug 22, 2011
amor4ce:
It seems like these Vanguard newspaper journalists and editors need some reprogramming because their report of Prof Barth Nnaji's statements did not indicate any assertion to the effect that the Chinese firm involved were sabotaging Nigeria's efforts at improving power supply. Rather, allegations by the Olorunsogo plant CEO were alluded to. Rather, the Minister pointed to gas supply issues. Perhaps that CEO needs some thorough performance evaluation to determine whether or not he knows his onions.

Besides, the headline ignores the important detail about the economic sabotage and treason said to be perpetrated the electricity distribution companies.

SMH at Nigerian journalism and attempts at using biased reporting to sway the minds of the Nigerian populace instead of holding sacrosanct the principles of objectivity and reporting the facts.

Should I marvel at what seems to be the gullibility-tainted expressions of some of my fellow NairaLanders?
Seconded!! if those were his comments, he sounds 'somehow'

and if the minister is just getting to know this after 2years then he himself get skoin skoin!
