HealthRe: Setting Up A Healthcare Facility In Nigeria by DisGuy: 9:23am On Aug 20, 2011
Evil Brain:
Whatever you do, stay away from emergency medicine. Or else, you'll end up treating every sick baby or injured okada man in your area for free. Nigerians never want to pay for emergency care but will be happy to break your head if their relative dies in your hands.

My advice to you is to start small and don't call attention to yourself. Develop relationships with other doctors. If won't hurt if you work for one of the bigger private hospitals for a few years to build up a reputation with patients before setting up your own place. Definitely don't put a big HOSPITAL sign in front of your building. That'll only attract emergencies that can't pay.

If you provide good services, you'll get patients through word of mouth and through referrals from other doctors.
Lie? Many Nigerians cant AFFORD to pay for healthcare, quite different from not wanting to pay for it!!

Get referral direct from hospital and make your payment policies clear!
Jokes EtcRe: Ngozi Okonjo Iweala Resigns After Inspecting Federation Accounts by DisGuy: 9:06am On Aug 20, 2011
nigboy:
This is a rumor. Read on ,
The office of the Minister of Finance yesterday denied rumours making the rounds in Abuja that the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala had resigned.

At about 1 pm on Friday, the rumour mill in Abuja was awash with the story that she had resigned. Following frantic calls made to the office to know the true situation of things, the minster’s Senior Special Assistant on Information and Communication, Mr Paul Nwabuikwu, denied the rumour which was attributed to an online medium.

Paul Nwabuikwu in a statement said: “It has been brought to our notice that an online website is alleging that Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, has resigned her position. The information is completely false and without foundation.”

He attributed the rumour to what he called “the ongoing orchestrated campaign by entrenched interests and corrupt groups working against more transparent and improved governance in the country.”

The obvious intention of the rumour, he said, “is to distract Dr Okonjo-Iweala from contributing to the realisation of the vision of President Goodluck Jonathan and his administration for sustainable economic growth in Nigeria. This intention will not be achieved because Dr Okonjo-Iweala will not be distracted.”

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Launches 2 New Satellites Into Orbit - GEJ Confirms on NTA by DisGuy: 7:51am On Aug 18, 2011
thought as much, always knew they were just sponsored students on the team, Not a single one of those engineers have been interviewed so far, hopefully they will be retained and involved in future projects

So what was that Nigeriasat-1 ever used for ? in theory they say it will monitor our shore lines, weather patterns, floods, agriculture etc etc etc but never heard any information coming as a result of the satellite undecided

PoliticsRe: Ekiti Airport Project Not My Priority, Says Fayemi by DisGuy: 2:28am On Aug 17, 2011
Revealing that the state government plans to erect toll-gates on the federal roads to collect tolls from the heavy duty truck to rehabilitate the roads, Fayemi said Onolememen advised that the programme be deferred for Federal Government to study the modality the project would take.
Fayemi is obviously smart, just hoping four years is enough to affect the lives of those at the bottom

Instead of tolling FG roads and engaging in long drawn court cases, he should expand an alternative route, then toll it, collecting money from heavy duty trucks and cars not registered/domiciled in the state!! the Federal roads will be in a state of disrepair 80% of the time and travellers will rather go through the more comfortable, safer route

The health commissioner should be sacked. He cheated his was through school. What a way to inform the public about the birth of a naturally deformed baby as if the mama commit abomination. If only he read those text books in school or is smart enough to enlighten himself some more in his field after school, he would have known what caused the baby to be born looking like that and seize the opportunity to advise the public on how to avoid such happening to their children in future if it can be prevented.
Totally agree with you!!

he didnt even talk about offering the woman counselling, he is blabbing on about 'to avoid embarrassment'

^^ I agree with you on the movement of foreigner into health care, i just heard some indians have opened a hospital in abuja that reduces the need for people to go abroad and a second one is also about to open and a third 500bed hospital is being planned in collaboration with some Nigerians. Our people spend more time grumbling about what we lack rather than opportunities on the ground. Lets just START!
Are these indian/SA getting funds from the same banks as Nigerians? are the rates similar to those of Nigerian banks?

PoliticsRe: Presidency Approves Housing Allowance For Ex-militants by DisGuy: 5:23pm On Aug 14, 2011
He said that the president’s adviser on Niger Delta was already outside the country to collate the number of persons who had passed through the scheme so that they could be listed for the payment.

“Mr President magnanimously approved that the package should be paid to everybody who has passed through this process,” he said. “As you know, to whom much is given, much is expected. The President, therefore, directed that the money be paid directly to the beneficiary’s account and to only those who qualified in character and in learning.”

Pepple said that the President had also directed the amnesty officials to go to all areas where the ex-militants were being trained and announce the approval of the allowance to them and to collect their personal data for payment.

“As I am here (Obubra), the Special Adviser, Kuku, is in the offshore training centres to get the names of the ex-militants and their account numbers so that their monies will be paid directly to them, he said. “So, once we finish this process, it will be made public in the media.”
So they have to go out side the country to know the names and numbers of people being trained ?
Were they not the same people that sent them abroad, didnt they have their details including an account they were paying before travelling?

Payback time grin
too much money
