Pennywise: This is a familiar argument that is unfair to Nigerians. If a position does not stand the test of a simple logic and commonsense, it should be condemned irrespective of the depth you take it. As a public servant who has decided to embark on strike (which ought to be a last resort) to address your grievances, you are duty bound to make the reasons known. It is for this reason (among others) doctors keep losing the PR war with govt whenever they go on strike.

You may wish to correct this bc I cant recall when higher salaries was not at the core of a strike called by doctors. No one has said there is anything wrong with a justifiable increase in remuneration. The problem with it is that their action is myopic. I will explain. Doctors are educated people. Nigeria is a third world country with all the problems of govt in the third world especially corruption. Not long ago our lawmakers decided to distinguish themselves in global infamy by awarding themselves stupendous pay packages. This has led to over-the-top govt spending, pressure on the naira with even more inflation. Whatever raise you get will be wiped out by inflation. Doctors like ASUU saw no reason to call for civil disobedience or a strike.

There are other contentious issues like the headship of govt hospitals that is causing so much acrimony and friction. A situation where you have rotation of the headship of Govt hospitals every other year among doctors is laughable and primitive. Is hospital administration in the curricilum at the post graduate college? In which civilized country is this acceptable practice? Certainly not the US or the UK we strive to model clinical delivery after. The result is that there is no sustainable plan. Yes the egos of doctors get a good massage but how does that help the system with respect to service and even accountability. Hospital administration is a course. Any one who desire it should get trained in it. Everything is wrong with entrusting a young man/woman who just left specialist training with a 2billion naira institution when he never managed 5million naira in his life. If this is the depth of issue you talked about then your case is 'dead on arrival'.
Right on the money!

doctors like university profs act like they are not responsible for the budget torun their own hospitals and Schools-
These group of professionals are supposed to be the cream of the society- but managing their own hospitals environment seems to be beyond them! the dirty environment, poor back up plan/generators is not the responsibility of the state/fg.

apart from their god syndrome Naija Doctors are doing a good job by the way cheesy
PoliticsRe: Why So Much Hate For GEJ by DisGuy:
it would also be useful to your research if you dig deeper into Nairaland pre Jonathan era

Do Nigerians love their presidents?

Why is Jonathan above criticism?
Why was it okay/acceptable to Abuse Yaradua- afterall he also didnt create the power problem,
there was corruption before he became president

perhaps people have nowhere to hide now as it's come full circle- now we are hiding under tribe/religion just to deflect issues

and access to the Internet

HealthRe: Surgery Done With a 'rechargeable lamp' In Nigeria... by DisGuy: 2:51pm On Oct 16, 2013
Mr Troll: I'm in the health sector and I have this to say...

Y'all should start suing our arsses. Yes! When a patient dies, investigations should be carried out and all involved parties sued, the doctors, pharmacists, anaesthetists etc. Only when we get our head out of the clouds and realise that GOD!!! Has no hand in the death of ANY patient will we sit up and assert our rights.

When people start suing left right and center, we will sit up and then the govt will start listening to our demands angry
I understand theres a lot of cover up going on in the health sector- they are quick to gang up on patients and then either turn the blame around or muddle the whole process

Lagusta: concerning private hospitals....

The NMA supposed to have a regular check on private hospitals, they must all be well equipped and up to standard!!! Not just paying annual dues....

a private hospital must have an oxygen-giving apparatus, a resuscitation kit and essential drugs..... also a standard theatre and side-lab for basic tests e.g pcv, RBS....

If these little things are in place, then we are heading somewhere!!!!
why arent they doing it?

THE govt should be blamed for a whole lot of things BUT the medical proffessionals should also be blamed for so many other failures!

Why should the generator and back-up pack up at the same time?

Another problem is the Doctor in nigeria appear to be in charge of everything from hiring everyone from cleaners to security staff, procurement, repairing generators instead of putting in place a management system for non-clinical issues and concentrate on their expertise

theoctopus: The status quo has been bad power, so that isnt news. What is news is that the power is improving and getting stable. The stability and regularity of the power supply is even more important than the increase in time itself. Most people understand that improved power is not expected to happen overnight. By this time next year, with the new DISCOs settled and at least 10, 000MW, we will be on another level entirely. Slow and steady wins the race. The opposition has been throwing the kitchen sink so nothing new here! We keep moving forward ever! grin
unfortunately several people were looking forward to this 2-3 years now what with higher tarriffs to attract investors -without commuserate provisons-prepaid meters, prompt pole repairs, crazy charges etc etc not that they didnt want it to work they just believed people esp in leadership positions that promised something by a certain period should deliver as promised!

back to the topic! It's not too much to squash this 'politically motivated lies'- show the poeple your records!

PoliticsRe: N255M Ministerial Car Scandal Is “all Rumours” - Aviation Officials by DisGuy:
theoctopus: You are right there, but only a small department should be dedicated to that. I know it can be cumbersome sometimes but they just need to keep pushing forward. Truth will eventually dispel lies. For example, come tell the people in my area enjoying regular power that the FG is not doing anything. They will just ignore you. NL does not represent Nigeria!
well they have several department and most arent as busy as they should be, Audit, PR, and DG can dispel these lies within a day- it's what exactly they are there for or else wishing the 'lies' will go away will only give a bad reputation

Just as well you can visit some areas and tell them the FG is claiming the highest power generation and distribution they will ignore you---your area doesnt represent Nigeria!
PoliticsRe: N255M Ministerial Car Scandal Is “all Rumours” - Aviation Officials by DisGuy: 10:53am On Oct 16, 2013
theoctopus: There is nothing to tell Nigerians. The government should focus on their jobs and ignore distractions from paid journalists. The paid journalists do not serve the interest of the public. They serve the interests of criminals like Tinubu, so nothing spoil! grin
their job unfortunately includes clearing up ' distractions' and politically motivated rumours!!!
