TravelRe: Should Nigerians Pay £3000 For UK Visa Bond?? by DisGuy(mod): 10:16pm On Oct 04, 2013
shedyman: Though, the bond acts as a form of security against the absconding of first Nigerian visitors to the UK, and thus is refundable upon departure, it smacks of discrimination as it only applies to Nigerians.

maclatunji: ^Unfortunately, many people do not feel like this and more and more seem all-too-eager to see other people in pain and misery. It is a very alarming trend.
other people in this context would be the politicians and usually those perceved to be previledged few associated with their own misery either directly or indirectly
PoliticsRe: On the Dangerous Gulf Emerging Amongst Nigerians by DisGuy: 2:30pm On Oct 04, 2013
-there's a reason 'their' fences are 10ft high- they dont care and want you around
-there's a reason why 'their' cars are blacked out- they dont want to see your 'misery and pain'
-there's a reason why they drive past so fast-- they dont want you to catch up and vent

the ordinary toothless LG chairman rarely walk about alone to meet his constituents, the 'representatives' dont meet their constituent without security or some peace offerings [bags of rice, oil, sewing machine, some envelops full of cash] before running back to their secured abuja quarters

It's a jungle!

TravelRe: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by DisGuy(mod): 9:19pm On Oct 03, 2013
If you are an international student (outside of the EU), you have the option of studying for either three or four years. If you decide to study on a four year degree, you will be able to undertake a placement. This means you will be working in a graduate level position for one year providing you with the opportunity to gain valuable commercial experience and to earn a salary. The placement year takes place in the third year of a four year degree. Although not compulsory for non-EU students you are positively encouraged to undertake the placement because of the additional experience and skills you are able to gain.

We also run an exchange programme which provides international students at our partner institutions the opportunity to study at Aston Business School.

Our International Office staff regularly visit a number of countries to participate in Higher Education exhibitions and college visits, giving you the chance to talk to someone in person.

Who can take a placement year?

All BSc, BA and MSc students can apply for a one year Professional Placement. This includes international students, who can extend their student visa to cover the extra year of a programme. At Salford Business School we use the term 'placements', but the term 'internships' is also used.

When can you do your placement year?

For BSc and BA students the placement takes place between their second and final years. For MSc students the placement takes place after their first two taught semesters so that the MSc takes 2 years in total to complete. This is made up of 2 semesters of taught study, a 12 month placement and a 3 month writing up period. Thus the MSc is made up in total of just over 12 months in the University and 12 months on placement.

peteafrik88: My able compatriots, please I am looking into getting a work placement opportunity after my 2nd yr of study and wondering if anyone has an idea if my chances will be affected by my visa status. Does one regars the work placement period term time, as the visa guidelines call it. Thank you all and waiting on some candid opinion.
With so much changes with UK immigration laws it would be difficult to give proper advice, but I think if your degree course specifically have a one year work experience option then i think you are good to go, you'll explain whenever asked [by prospective employers] that your visa covers the period [you will have to extend it when the time comes to finish your course]

ANY LInk to this policy document or only govt officials have access to it?

He revealed that as a way to provide adequate local manpower for the industry, the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) is working with car-maker, Cena of Brazil, to open automotive training centres in Nigeria while two Nigerian universities have agreed to commence degree programmes in auto mechanical engineering.

PoliticsRe: My Ordeal With Armed Robbers Vs Nigeria Police by DisGuy: 11:42am On Oct 01, 2013
pro01: This is really disgraceful. It is difficult to have hope in the Nigerian security agencies and the criminal justice system in general. Then again, virtually all institutions and sectors in Nigeria are complicit in this rot. Our society is in dire need of comprehensive overhauling, but unfortunately, I don't see that happening anytime soon..

Op, your case is almost hopeless as it is. Indeed, I would advise that you thread carefully, lest the local policemen leak information to the very criminals that robbed you - and you know what that means. If you have the wherewithal, your best bet now is to approach the state police headquarters for help. There is a 50/50 chance that some senior officers there might help you out, but don't count on it. Forget about the DSS or Civil Defence guys; they would still have to refer you back to the police, whose responsibility it is to deal with armed robbery cases.

What a shame! What a country!
totally agree with this, except perhaps you meet a competent senior officer at the same station. you might want to get more details from your anti-theft software or post the picture of the 'handler of stolen goods' online if all else fails!!!
