Roland17:Communities don't have the authority to tax companies per se - government does. They should take the blame for that. Communities blackmail and coerce companies into doing their biddings by creating hostile environments to work in so they are forced to negotiate. If the creek boys in the Niger-Delta communities didn't vandalize pipelines and installations, and kidnap and harass these companies, the largesse of Amnesty and Pipe Protection Contracts (which culprits like Tompolo, Asari and the likes are fighting over) wouldn't be made possible. These vandals would have been checked if the security votes were put to use effectively. It brings us back to the question, what are Nigeria state governors exactly doing with security votes? If we tackle that, we'd be ready to address insecurity and the resultant effects. |
Roland17:The Nigerian cities, whether PH, Warri, Uyo, Lagos, or Kaduna, would, on the average, mostly reflect the strength of our security institutions. How controls the security agencies? That aside, you and I discussed security votes to states late last year, with me pointing out Nigerian state governors ganged up to get a perpetual court injunction in 2018 barring any form of scrutiny into how these monies are expended. That injunction still stands. Akwa Ibom gets #21.6 billion. Delta gets something close. Benue gets #31 billion. Osun gets less than one-fifth but is safer than Benue. Nassarawa which neighbours Benue gets one-twenty-fifth of that. It doesn't make sense. Even the supposed "safe' cities are just relative terms. How are these monies expended? We don't ask. We never ask the right questions. |
TrebleChamp:Leo tops Maradona. But I agree Maradona is the John the Baptist to Messi' Jesus. We forgive you for the momentary blasphemy. |
Spy360:You shall be seated amongst the saints in Football Heaven, man. Halloweth be Leo's name. |
She goofed. She should cook afang soup last. There's no soup in the universe greater than afang soup. None! Then spice it up with mushrooms, Oron crayfish, large de-shelled periwinkles, and freshwater large fish. Served hot with freshly-made fufu. My God! Re-order that list, Hilda. Don't disrespect my afang soup. |
Ruminate on the above for now. Later on I'd post more details about the violence in Rivers State, and Port Harcourt specifically. I'm not going to let you muddy the waters with whataboutism and strawman arguments. I do facts only anyone can verify. ----------- For those who don't know, what is today Port Harcourt is a merger of different LGAs (Port Harcourt LGA, Obio Akpor LGA, Ikwerre LGA, and parts of Eleme and Emohua LGAs). (Notice how I am detailed with exact places right to the 't'? Yeah.) Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor LGAs are the very hearts of Port Harcourt. Supposedly the most civilized and "most peaceful" of the state (don't miss the quotation marks, please). Later on, guys, I'd do an exposé of some sort on both LGAs - the very center of PH City. Let's all condemn gang culture. Too many lives have been ruined. Too many. |
airmark:Airmark, ignore Itsrm. I could list 10 reported cult killings in Port Harcourt alone in just 12 days this month. In just 12 DAYS of May! But I'd start with today: News: "Cultists Kill Police Officer in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in broad daylight." They sprayed the bullets, maiming and possible killing passerby innocents too. (This part of spraying bullets on a crowd to exterminate one target is common. Residents and victims in Degema, Boguma, and Abonemma in Rivers can testify to this. I could go on and on!) ----- Reported just 2 hours ago by the state newspaper, Rivers Mirror: https://www.facebook.com/100081310091134/posts/pfbid0XD6fMnaD8Av5dZ4LEuNkdQ3P5mUTGA8G8i9b3QxSJa3G75fDq7sdcTpg1mk1qUmRl/ . Reported by Nigeria Info / Cool FM 4 hours ago: https://www.facebook.com/100083397338228/posts/pfbid0Kbbjbw85sMuqfUcapHivCjwAxjqbncCRzJUsudHjh5Ypm3v1UV3kEHZkZyKkQsnGl/ Rivers is a very violent state. Your ascension on the social ladder/stratum in that state is sped up by your violent tendencies (real or posturing). Even I have become an enemy for simply exposing this dangerous societal ill on this thread. I do it on Facebook too, by the way, and I have uploaded screenshots to prove it. The Rivers Voltrons on this thread can keep lying, but mentioning me to it means I'd keep exposing the truth about Rivers State's (celebrated) gang culture. It can't get better if you refuse to specify it's a problem. Facts only! ![]()

Immediately I saw the news about what happened, I thought, "Eurosoccer Section guys would certainly want to take a piss"; so I decided to come on here - and I was right. First off, Use-Offot where it happened is in Uruan LGA, not Uyo. It's at the fringes of the state. The culprits have been arrested. There's a law prohibiting cultism in Akwa Ibom. Reviewed in 2020. Please confirm this. Secondly, if you had to wait for months to find one incidence of a violent clash to get your supposed "glass houses" moment for what is a daily occurrence in Rivers (and Kogi for Amoto whose mention I just saw), then you are corroborating my point. Security is a relative term. Sweden is one of the safest countries in the world but there are still pockets of violence. Canada is safer than Nigeria but there are still cases of crime. The question is, what's the frequency of (violent) crimes? That for Akwa Ibom (and Uyo) is way lower than Rivers (and Port Harcourt). Just this month alone in Rivers, police officers have been decapitated, and numerous people murdered. Some reported on Nairaland. And it's just May 10. Last week, Ogoni boys cordoned off Eleme - Port Harcourt - Eket road to rob around midday (close to where Amaechi sited the Banana Plantation), again, as always on the Rivers part of the road. I was on that road, but I wasn't petty enough to come announce it on Nairaland. Airmark, Popiziano, and a number of persons have mentioned me over the weeks to buttress what I have stated but I didn't want to dwell on it. It still won't stop the fact that today being Oil Mill Market Day in Port Harcourt, it's going to get bloody, or someone isn't going to get shot at 1st Artillery or Diobu. Or at CFC as you approach Mile 1. Or from 7:30PM, prepare for anything at Railway crossing behind D/Line and Elelenwo areas. All just in Port Harcourt. You don't want to.get me started on Etche, Abonnemma and other areas. You can only lie to these guys who don't know Rivers like you and I. Security is a relative term, and Akwa Ibom has always been top 5 on such (security) lists since 2009. ![]() If you want to keep wailing about an issue I let go 2 months ago, then humour yourself. I'd drink to the tears. |
larride:Here's another example I read about last week: Amsterdam tells English men between the ages of 18 and 35 to stay away from their city as they are uncouth nuisances. Blunt. They are complaining the English don't respect their Netherland hosts. https://www.mirror.co.uk/travel/europe/amsterdam-tells-brits-stay-away-29576705 |
GrammarNazi1:You're still hovering around the issue and refusing to perch on it. The post you quoted was of me inserting a link to the Nobel Prize website stating it doesn't reveal the criteria for awarding the Literature prize. It's on the website! It went on to state a small committee of the Swedish Academy decides who gets shortlisted and wins, and their decision isn't subject to change. That clause or caveat, if you like, corroborates my stance that the many of the categories are awarded subjectively since there are no benchmarks. If Soyinka had been awarded for his activism against military rule and oppression, that'd be defined. But for literature, no criteria is defined or even stated to begin with. |
ShaqFu:I'd admit it's true to some extent. I still do verbosity, especially when the back-and-forths get heated. But if you offer copywriting as a service, you'd realise the conversational, laid-back tone works best, and it holds the readers' attention more. Verbosity works best mostly when you're doing technical writing. ---- Like Soyinka, another popular Nigerian social commentator and/or critic who favours verbosity over flow is Farooq Kperogi. The (secret) intent of such verbosity is to bully, most times. That's the tone Farooq prefers in all of his social examinations. |
GrammarNazi1:Exactly. Art is subjective. If you are in doubt about the criteria used to choose Nobel Laureates, please proceed to the academy's website or page in order to be enlightened because even though art is subjective there are criteria of categorization. This is exactly what feminists say when one argues the logic of their hard stances with them - go read up. -- Here is the criteria for the Nobel Prize for Peace: https://www.nobelprize.org/nomination/literature/ . It clear states that once nominated the Swedish Academy decides which nominations they would pick but reserve the right never to reveal why the nominees got shortlisted or not. It even has a law that further details about the nominations cannot be revealed for 50 years. There is no specific stated criteria for being a Nobel Prize winner in Literature. No benchmark and the academy refuses to make it public. This is what you slate Achebe for? Some of us get into the fine details. You can't bamboozle everyone. |
GrammarNazi1:Some awards are subjective. Some are based on definitive indices like goal contributions and trophies won for footballers, or a defined achievement like gene editing to delete a cancer-causing constituent for bioengineers or something definitive like that for Nobel Prize winners in Medicine. What are the definitive or set indices for determining the Nobel Prize winners for Literature in the debated case? You could have 30 nominated and, subjectively, one is picked based on reasons which don't stand the winner out from the line-up. |
GrammarNazi1:Malaila won the Nobel Laureate for simply not dying at the hands of the Taliban. She won for staying alive. We should all get a Nobel Prize each for surviving Boko Haram. Obama won the Nobel despite decimating the Middle East which even he confessed to. DiCaprio didn't win the Oscars until recently in his mid-forties. He almost had to die in ice and parrot some climate change talking point to be deemed worthy despite headlining several classics as the lead actor even in his twenties. Imagine not winning the Oscar for Titanic 26 years ago. I could go on and on. Some of these award categories are judged subjectively (which isn't me stating Soyinka is any less deserving). No Nigerian penperson dead or alive matches Achebe. |
Achebe had the uncanny ability to paint the most vivid of pictures with words, just words. But he was more than that: reading an Achebe novel is like being in a 7D theatre - you feel it and live it in real-time. There's a reason the greatest writers out there worship Achebe and why there are a billion notable quotes and references from his books about any life issue. Wole Soyinka is more into sophistry - preferring flowery words even when such break the narrative flow. When it comes to literature - prose, drama, and poetry, Achebe's penmanship hasn't been surpassed by any Nigerian dead or alive. |
Melvyn11:The Maize Farm avoided this post like it's an Ebola test tube. Telling. Really telling. |
thesicilian:LOL. You'd be surprised people sold their votes for two cups of rice, five cups of maggi, and a fez cap which soon wash off in the last elections. People sold votes on credit which weren't even redeemed. The crazy things happening in this country. |
liveLongNprospa:Optics. Perception. The LP NWC can shoot themselves indoors but they shouldn't taint Obi by association with their old guard antics. That's my fear. Op-Eds popping up all day are painting Obi with the LP chaos brush. |
BlaqFaze:Peter Obi isn't the LP. I didn't vote and/or canvass for any other LP candidate asides Obi. He's the one I've known and whose sociopolitical journey I have followed with verifiable antecedence. Only in coming heightened politicking/electioneering seasons would I be able to root for other candidates whose vetting process to verified candidacy I followed. Obi isn't of the old hands. |
For the "LP from top to bottom" crew: You should more concerned about the disintegration of the party from within. https://punchng.com/breaking-lp-crisis-police-take-over-secretariat-nwc-appoints-acting-chairman/ LP Secretariat has been taken over by the Police and yet there's no analysis about what this means to the defence Peter Obi seems to be marshalling in court. Regardless of how this is resolved, the optics don't bode well for a party posturing as the alternative away from the norm. These are the more important issues. The wranglings favour the APC more than any other group. |
BlaqFaze:Obi didn't contest the PDP primaries to begin with, man. Nope. He did things differently. Not indebting your state is setting you apart from the old hands. No Nigerian governor since then has been able to match this singular record. Managing scarce resources well is different from the old hands. At the beginning, what made alot of people key into him was that North and Muslim have ruled the country enough, it's time for South east... it's time for an Igbo man to become presidentObi is the only one of the top 3 candidates who didn't campaign based on tribe. Come on, man. He asked for a level-playing field and excused himself from the Primaries because it was dollarized. In conclusion...I feel people went into this obidient stuff just because they don't want Tinubu and Muslim-Muslim...But everybody has the right to contest an electionNo. The Third Force movement began in 2020 while Tinubu was denying he was ever going to contest. That movement morphed into the Obidient Movement. I was 'obidient' (if you'd call it that) even in 2018. I have my comments to prove; and I'm not alone. I've detailed it on this board almost a year ago. https://www.nairaland.com/7186774/epl-chatroom-all-discussions/1083#119426641 Click the quoted comments. And let's not forget the online bullying, the moment you support PDP or Apc, obidients deem you a witch... everybody has the right to vote his/her choice. If your basis for supporting a candidate is based simply on him being at the receiving end of insults, some of which are factual, GEJ should be Nigeria's lifetime President - he's arguably the most insulted President in the world. |
BlaqFaze:Actually, Delta should be judged side by side with Akwa Ibom: - About the population size. - About the same federal allocations. But 2.5 times larger than Akwa Ibom by landmass. ---- I won't judge you still. No. You have done nothing to me. Except for few skirmishes, my focus is on promoting my own state. --- Why don't you like Obi? Forget his tribe or their rhetorics since after the elections; why don't you like him as a GCFR? He represents opportunities and more likely to bring in fresh hands. Aren't you tired of the old hands who've almost run us to the ground? Why don't you want someone who manages public finances relatively well? Why isn't Obi a catch for you since we couldn't get Osinbajo? |
BlaqFaze:Where in South South? I won't do it to you, I promise. My focus in my neighbour, Rivers. And the criticism comes from a good place. |
BlaqFaze:Man, at the end of the day, my own state is peaceful, developing at a fast rate, getting massive investments, and companies are setting up shop all over. The infrastructure is good too and poised to be better. On the other hand, he'd go home to UGM, kidnappings, bad roads, thuggish leaders he hails, no FDI... Or he can't even go home at all because it's a death wish. But I don't like Peter Obi any less. He represents an idea for me, his tribe regardless. Just like Osinbajo still does for me. I'd rather not go into tribal issues. I'm more focused on promoting the developmental strides in Akwa Ibom as I have always done over the years. They should take notes if they have nothing to promote. --- All things being equal, at some point this month or next, I should upload pictures of the new oil company, fertilizer plant, and petrochemical industry already being built in my place. We'd take site tours soon. Those are the issues I want to discuss. Backward gangsters and UGM should take several seats. ![]() |
y3mi:I'd have said an outright no but I discussed something in that range with my lady today who's also tech-inclined. Here's what she said which I think makes sense: If you value the startup and think, regardless of growth, there'd always be a valuation cap in the next 10 years, it's worth it. And if you know the $50,000 would help you scale to a certain level, then earmark the 10%, scale then maybe do a Series A raise for 10% then leave it at that. She didn't use all those technical VC terms but that's the summary of what she told. I sort of agree, partially. Madam kept hammering on controlling percentage as a founder everytime I discuss it with her. It also depends on the tech specialty. Is it innovative? How can you successfully predict a valuation cap? I'd he lying if I say I can. I can't. ---- How was Flutterwave to know after their first $1.1 million raise in 2016, they were going to be valued at $3.1 billion by February, 2021 while PayStack which sprang up concurrently and offers same services got sold for $200 million? Again, Y Combinator gives $500,000 for 7% equity but with a higher competive entry bar while the referred to VC is offering $50,000 for 10%. I guess one has to put a VC cap of what to let go, put a cap on estimated funding to scale then make compromises. I know of an Indian PAAS which raised $25,000 at first then raised $1.1 million in January. But they don't reveal the percentage equity traded off, of course. |
chrisooblog:Erm, Wike has done relatively well on road construction. There were roads which seemed impossible to work during Amaechi's time but Wike didn't just dualize them but electrified them. Take Akpajo - Elelenwo - Oil Mill road for example, and what he did at Odani - Slaughter - Trans Amadi. What he did at CFC/D-Line too, all in Port Harcourt. I respect that. Calling him Mr. Flyer Over doesn't do justice to the roads he has constructed/rehabilitated. Maybe not on Akwa Ibom level for roads but I think he deserves some credit too. The main issue I fault Rivers State on has always been the same - the gang culture and violence. I haven't derailed from this point. In 2015 before Udom found his footing, we felt some effect of the escaping culprits in small communities bordering Rivers State. Opobo Town was a hotspot too. Still is. Plus Wike's erratic nature. It'd affect FDI. --- Lagos has overpopulation to deal with, amongst other issues. If other state governors and stakeholders focus also on developing their states, the pressure on Lagos would reduce. But, no, let's focus ONLY on MC Oluomo, agberos, overtaxation, and impunity in Lagos, while they play blind to the destructive vices in their places of origin. That's why Diss.Troy would continue to celebrate states and state governments gaining ranks on the developmental indices. Akwa Ibom happens to be a top 5 prominent one for years now so he focuses on the state. |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:I castigated particularly the gang culture and violence in Rivers State. Rivers is the closest state to me. Port Harcourt particularly. When that violence boils over, the culprits fleeing from it are a menace we have to curtail. That's why I barely go on about Abia and Cross River which also border Akwa Ibom. Port Harcourt is ~30 minutes drive (should be 20 minutes if all parts of the Eleme - Eket road were in good condition) from my place of origin. Some other LGAs across the strip of the Atlantic Ocean are even closer by speedboat. Now you know why I attack th gang culture in Rivers State. Smoky eyes would eventually cause running nose if the trigger isn't stopped, or so they say. Lastly, for those pissed off about me promoting my state of origin and even putting up links and screenshots, there are 35 other states. Brag about yours. If you think it's too shitty, stay on the sidelines while those who hold their leaders accountable recount the developmental strides. |
Donjazet2:I posted yesterday top 10 states with FDI. Highlighted Akwa Ibom then went on to expatiate on our strong points. I didn't even mention other states asides the ones on the FDI index. Well, not today or in the last 2 days. Guess who got triggered to go off about Akwa Ibom? Brag about your states. Counter me. Let's all brag about our states of origin instead of focusing on the FGN and Lagos. But, no, you'd attack Lagos while your places go to shit. I don't care about how Lagos is typically governed because mine is of more priority on a personal level. If you attack first, you don't get to make the rules of engagement. Again, last I checked, Akwa Ibom tops on so many developmental indices. Infrastructure, EoDI, FDI, security, peace, and more. They can't match these. We protect investors and investments, while they from other places kidnap them. I have given several examples. Who wants to live in unsafe, partly dirty, and insecure places? Yes, I'd keep going on about it. I'd proudly point out what little contributions individuals like myself and others at higher levels are doing to make the state better. If they feel intimidated by Akwa Ibom or me point it out, they should brag about theirs. I'm not going to stop doing it to make them feel better about the story states of their places of origin. Not here, on Facebook, or in person. No apologies. ![]() |
OasisX:The Deep Seaport is beginning to get more controversial on some level. But I hope the incoming governor would smoothen out certain things. --- Some mentions. I've got. LOL. These people are crying because I posted Akwa Ibom is top 3 in FDI. By the way, along with professionals from my place who came from far and wide, we had an emergency with meeting some traditional rulers and other stakeholders during the weekend. Works for the petrochemical plant, fertilizer plant, and allied companies have begun in earnest. We are ensuring Akwa Ibomites don't miss out on it so skilling up where necessary and Diss.Troy is at the centre. If you are from Akwa Ibom reading this (particularly from Eket Senatorial District), this is for you. Privately-funded by us but it's free. We made it so. And employment has begun in phases. The third training we have funded of such in 26 months. ![]() Publicity is going out on my Facebook page this evening and more. Yes, my face and details are also on it. The naysayers can check back in 24 hours time. Mornings are best for publicity. This part of socioeconomic revolution and being in the thick of developmental activities at the Senatorial District and State levels are my priority. While the others here are kidnapping and bragging about gangs, I and other concerned Akwa Ibomites are ensuring as the investments keep coming in, the host communities and others partake of it, while we ensure it's safe, peaceful, and secure. And it reflects on several indices. While they are thinking of kidnapping expatriates, we are collaborating with them for everyone's good. Security, peace, infrastructure. The rants on Nairaland can continue but their places are mostly shit of their own doing so they claim Lagos is a no man's land while we develop ours and protect investors and investments. This is the reality. |
Akwa Ibom list - Ease of Doing Business : 1st in the South and 4th in Nigeria. https://punchng.com/gombe-sokoto-top-ease-of-doing-business-anambra-7th-ondo-8th-lagos-20th/ - Cleanest state in Nigeria for many years in a row: https://sunnewsonline.com/aibom-emerges-cleanest-state-in-nigeria-followed-by-ebonyi/ - Always listed as the top 4 states with best roads. - Always topping lists of safest states. - Competes only with Abuja and Lagos for road quality. - Only state with an airline. - Only one with a power plant (This just got privatised recently. Well, a PPP like the brewery). - Still has the best stadium in the country. (Certified by CAF and FIFA.) -- Your list: - Gangs - Cult groups - Kidnappings - Unknown Gun Men - Internet fraudsters headquarters - Bad roads - Poor infrastructure - Uncouth leaders - High crime rates - Where whites go to get missing - Headquarters of election violence year in and out - I dare you to go out on Monday! ![]() So, yes, my hype is factual. You have a state of origin? Brag about it. No? Too ashamed? I thought so too. No wonder you claim Lagos is a no man's land because where you come from is shit. But it's a good thing the owners of Lagos are calling out the bluff of those of you who make those nonsense claims. You are from a shithole, low on just about every developmental indices and washed about chunk by chunk by every rainfall while you are busying trying to erase the ancestry of the Lagos indigenes. |
This is the post the dumb thing who is ashamed of his state and can't brag about it but wants to slight Akwa Ibom posted about. https://www.icirnigeria.org/report-with-46-casualties-akwa-ibom-most-violent-state-in-niger-delta/ It's ONE boundary area with Cross River and it is reported that the boundary clashes happened in Ikot Offiong, CROSS RIVER STATE close to Akwa Ibom. And it was nipped in the bud. One case 5 years ago. Just like one CROSS RIVER community is having a boundary clash with Benue currently. ![]() No, boy, we have left you behind. Continue championing kidnappers, militants, gang culture and other vices. Your roads are shit despite the revenue. Your streets are unsafe. People get decapitated daily in your street corners. Your FDI is negligible. UGM are decimating people daily on your streets but you think Akwa Ibom is to be compared to you? We don't measure our pace with you folks who praisesing thuggish governors who steal your states blind while your infrastructure falls apart unattended to. The only places we are interested in competing with are Lagos and Abuja which I mentioned. You don't matter. Not in the league of progressive states. ![]() |
