When Shekau-lite who represents everything uncivilised agrees with you, you should be worried. Really worried. |
nihilistjnr:Obi and Tinubu aside, get your contacts to invest in tech founders' ideas and their startups in Nigeria. Or help facilitate their access to startup incubation and funding programmes. Just one call to your contacts in Lagos would give you a spreadsheet of some of these guys doing amazing things with tech. Y-Combinator can't serve everyone. And LAN isn't enough. |
izzou:Imagine praising Yahaya Bello to troll Obi. Even Tinubu wouldn't want to be associated with the misgovernance of Yahaya in Kogi. BAT has shied away from associating with him in many ways. The height of Stockholm Syndrome praising Yahaya Bello. |
reccy:Lokoja is arguably the worst capital in Nigeria. Poverty in Kogi is at an all-time high. After the recent flooding, there's been barely any funding to help the Kogi victims. Your IGR is poorer than an LGA in Rivers State. Yahaya Bello has turned Kogi into a police state. Opposition is nonexistent as they all fear for their lives and he brandishes guns to threaten them. He's owing them salaries, gratuities and more. ![]() Kogi is at the bottom of every developmental chart of Nigerian states. Workers owed for years have no hope of being paid. Peter Obi getting 5 or 15% votes in Kogi should be the least of your worries. But Nigerians don't know their priorities. |
chrisooblog:Mark Essien of Hotels.ng and Charles Awuzie are on top of it. I'm more aligned with Mark. But for other levels of government, I've been directly involved. It's one of the reasons I was tasked to write a manifesto/policy document which focused on tech as an economic diversification tool and alternative security sources for at least one of the top governorship candidates from my state. PYO was/is the only aspirant who had a foolproof tech-driven economy document before the primaries. Our lives (including yours) would have been changed forever. He has a direct relationship with Silicon Valley too. Obi is playing catch-up in this regard. |
OasisX:And so that Tinubu being a hypocrite doesn't matter? Sometimes your shamelessness is enviable. Like a baby crawling all over with food upturned all over its body while pausing to bop its head to a sound with no rhythm. Completely unaware of its own silliness. Larride was right - you don't need brains to be a Tinubu supporter. I agree with you, Larride. |
OasisX:The same Tinubu who called Jonathan a traitor for wanting to remove subsidy? The joke writes itself.
|
chrisooblog:Many Nigerians do not know PYO is the reason the presidency assented to the Startup Bill quickly. He held a thousand meetings with techies without much media coverage for a few years and kept pushing for it. --- You're in the tech space too?
|
DeadPresidents:They did nothing for Flutterwave. Those guys and PayStack scrapped the floor for everything. Only private connected individuals came through for them. But the Lagos Angels Investment Network (LAN) is still the closest to anything serious we have. They are individuals still. LASG did nothing for them. DeadPresidents:My God! I was already salivating looking forward to an Osinbajo presidency. May Otem cage APC for denying us that man. |
chrisooblog:I was excited about the Startup Law but now I'm... I don't know. All talk. I disagree a bit about lack of government support for flutterwave I remember their former CEO Aboyeji mentioning somewhere how Lagos state partnered with them on something like that but can't speak for FG sha.The closest platform for tech founders which seems serious is the Lagos Angel Investment Network. Even that is more of a consortium of private individuals and, erm, cliquey if you are in the tech space. What stops government from saying, Microsoft come into Nigeria, set up your hubs in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. We'd give you a 4-year tax break but outsource xyz to Nigerian techies then ABC would...? --- Wike dashed out #300 million to Sanwo Olu's campaign 2 months ago to troll Atiku. 3 fintechs in Port Harcourt needed that amount to become giants in early 2021. More are seeking funding. Almost the amount Canva needed in 2013 to become a $21 billion company today. It all boils down to cutting wastage. That's one of the key reasons Obi appeals to me. That's why a cerebral and vibrant leader like Osinbajo as president appealed to me during the primaries. |
izzou:Actually, Obi is the only one of the front 3 who has done what he's saying in an elected position. - He's not stolen government funds. One of the few governors with no allegations of stealing or EFCC case. - He's the only one who ran a lean governance style in office. Tinubu was wasteful. Atiku too. Cut the cost of governance and you'd have half our problems solved. For example, the Akwa Ibom State Government budgeted #4 billion for education in 2018 but #10.1 billion for "overhead costs" in that year alone which is running government. Private jet, entourages, funding SAs and PAs, sitting allowance... If it was cut down to #2.1 billion, imagine what #8 billion would do for the state when pulled into the education sector? That's why a proven Peter Obi is a necessity! |
chrisooblog:States should be able to generate and transmit electricity. A PPP is the way to go. Some states are already equipped to be self-reliant in terms of electricity. Disstr.oy today explained how the ICT sector is booming even with inadequate power that should tell you the possibilities that exist if we just continue to stubbornly demand and work for a better working society.I do have to add that the record in the ICT sector is just down to the sheer never-die spirit of the average Nigerian. The policies don't help us ala crypto and remittances. Power is still a major challenge as techies depend on alternative sources of power as backup, and completely in some places. The government did nothing to help Flutterwave, PayStack, and the likes. Government did nothing to help techies connect with Silicon Valley too. Banks don't have packages to fund ICT but have special packages for oil and gas. How techies in Nigeria did it is a miracle. But we have that record and I'd flaunt it to everyone proudly. |
larride:That you were a shameless liar. And even Festus Keyamo admitted Tinubu forfeited money to the U.S. authorities and admitted the connection to drug-dealing. |
larride:Alright. larride: |
liveLongNprospa:Not just on "school na scam". He asked about how the bursaries would work and the Student Coordinator who organised the session was delegated to answer. Bursaries have always been a touchy issue in student unionism. Always. And the links between the government and student body have always been the ones to address it. Anyone who was active in student unionism knows this. |
larride:Blu bla balu bulu. |
iamoyindamola:If the CBN Governor who sort of oversees the printing of money contested as an APC aspirant and is loyal to the party, who do you you think he'd favour to print unaccounted-for notes which would used to buy votes in the run-up to the biggest election season in 8 years? Your guess is as good as mine. |
nihilistjnr:I agree. We agree. Or not. There's no shame in defending your position. You're no less human for being a BATist but you should defend your stand. We all have a horse in this race. Some of us are open about it while some unwittingly reveal who their bet is on as the days edge closer to D-Day. |
ShaqFu:10 years ago, during the Arab Spring, Egypt was a Banana Republic. It's gotten almost everything right now and tops every developmental indices in Africa. 15 years ago, Rwanda was no more than wood embers with smoke of the genocide still seem for miles away. They are getting it right now. We've gotten it right with the Electoral Law. Hopefully, we'd enforce the section on vote-buying. Soon we'd get it right with cross-carpeting. 15 years ago, these weren't feasible. When exactly? I don't know. The Egyptians and Rwandans didn't know when exactly too but it didn't put them off from pushing for changes and reforms. Who'd have thought Nigeria would be earning the most money from ICT given our power issues? But we did it this year. 18.7% of our GDP is from ICT - the highest in the world. That I am extremely proud of and brag to acquaintances from other parts of the world about. We'd get it right somehow. |
ShaqFu:] No. Knowing you Joe, you love playing the Devil's advocate. And your main grouse against Obi isn't personal or his tribe - you just don't want to support anyone ever linked to the PDP in the past. Which is odd because all major players had PDP links and Tinubu sabotaged his own party for Jonathan/PDP in 2011 so they were allies at a point. Until he wanted to be GCFR. On another note, do you really believe Nigeria can work and things can actually get better?.If you don't believe Nigeria would get better, why are we having this conversation? Electoral law, mused state policing, muled devolution of electricity generation and distribution to states... This thread being the default political lounge of Nairaland proves we all have a faint hope it'd get better. |
DissTroy:Nihilistjnr, this was my comment on the 12th of August. I was also referring to you. That was in the heat of the debate about Nigeria cannot work and not caring about the outcome. You are no neutral. Digz isn't too even though he tried to come off as one but was derobbed last month. The next you come up with that "I don't care" argument, we'd remind you. You folks can fool everybody. You are exactly like Segalink on Twitter who plays fencist but long-time active folks on Twitter Nigeria all know where his loyalties lie. |
nihilistjnr:Maybe. Maybe not. But this isn't what my post was about. You already derobbed yourself of your neutral cloak which you've tried to pass off as your default cloak. No need to mask up again. Like Raum, you are a BATist. Revel in it instead of letting them take the shots alone when Tinubu gaffes (which is a thousand times daily). No more of that "Nigeria cannot work, I don't care about the outcome" agenda from you. You care. You have a dog in the fight and want a certain outcome. There are no more middle grounds. Not on the 2023 elections issue. |
If anything, the last 3 pages proved those who were always pretending to be neutrals or fencists were never so. They chose the position because there wasn't really any gaffe to troll Obi with and Tinubu was steady dropping bombs. One supposed 6-second gaffe and all that pretend mantle of neutrality was removed and we saw the real cloaks they have underneath. Believe there are neutrals here at your peril. |
TrebleChamp:Obi is wasting valuable time campaigning in Akwa Ibom and Cross River. Both areas are done deals and I stated this before the primaries. Complete lockdown votes. |
iamoyindamola:Agba Jalingo who's constantly arrested, jailed, released, kidnapped for months and released by the current Cross River Governor, Ben Ayade, says "hi". His 'crime' is always insult or libel. |
Qatar2022:Umuahia is a shithole. I felt disgusted all through when I visited for two days. In conversation about state capitals or functioning states, Abia State should never come up. |
BlueRayDick:And very importantly,Tinubu has continually reiterated he would continue with Buhari's legacies as none of them are bad. These people on this thread support him - let that sink in. |
Imagine beating the Portuguese Instagram model on the only platform he reigns supreme? Messi is a devious god. He's taken everything away from that guy. In less than 48 hours too!
|
Joe / Shaqfu has always been on the wrong side of history politically. He's liberal about other issues but politically gets it wrong. I remember the first time our digital paths crossed was in 2014 here on Nairaland in the Politics Section and we had series of fiery exchanges, with me attacking him for whitewashing Buhari, calling all the accusations fallacies even though Buhari oversaw billions of dollars siphoned as PTDF Chairman, had health challenges so is an absentee leader and many more. By 2016/ 2017, he had to admit Buhari had failed. Same signs with Tinybu, except we know Buhari's childhood history, we know his non-nuclear family blood relatives and he's no drug baron unlike Tinubu. |
ShaqFu:True. Like Gandollar, a core member of the council. I agree, Deborah's killers are also innocent until proven guilty. ![]() |
ShaqFu:. Joe and his classic dribbling around. Something like Saint-Maxinim - dribbling all over but avoids the goal posts. -- You want me to analyse 603 names of a campaign council? https://cdn.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/TINUBU-SHETTIMA-2023-PCC-1-2.pdf Orji Uzor Kalu is a convicted thief. Tinubu's VP is a Boko Haramist. Too long. Tinubu himself is a drug baron and embezzler. Judas was never convicted or tried. It didn't make him less of a thief. |
ShaqFu:In any election cycle or during politicking, you sieve. Doyin Okupe stepped down for Obi during the PDP primaries and wanted an Obi presidency. Even canvassed for him when he decamped. You don't kick such a person until there's content reason to. Immediately he began asking for funds just after the Kwankwaso VP debacle, his influence in Obi's camp diminished. Please screenshot any high-profile meeting or appearance Okupe has featured with Obi in the last 2 or 3 months (which is after the funding saga). Kenneth Okonkwo has been Obi's most visible spokesperson. Okupe lost rank months ago. Facts only! But the nerve of Tinubu supporters whose principal is surrounded by bands of thieves to point fingers is daring. You are the conglomerate if thieves and your principal has every corruption tag there is. Even Jesus had a thief who was revealed and the scoundrel was cut-off And, yes, he's my Peter Obi. He's always been since years ago. |
