The Nigerian Army on Friday declared that it never lost control of Baga town in northern Borno, as against reports that Boko Haram insurgents overran the area.

Maj. Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, the Chief of Training and Operations made the clarifications in Maiduguri while fielding questions shortly after unveiling new military operations in the northeast. He spoke on behalf of Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff.

Adeosun said that the gallant troops successfully repelled the insurgents’ attack and secured Baga and its environs.

According to him, the insurgents had on Wednesday unleashed a coordinated attack on a military base in the town but the gallant troops repelled and pursued the insurgents.

“We have taken control of Baga. I am talking about the position of Baga as at yesterday when we stabilised the situation.

“Baga is not in the hands of the Boko Haram insurgents; I repeat Baga is not in the hands of the Boko Haram terrorists, they contested and lost.”

A woman has shared her heartbreaking testimony after she was imprisoned for nearly 13 years for a crime she knew nothing about.

Narrating her story at a Redeemed church branch in Lagos, the woman revealed that in July 2001, when she was a final year law student, she dated a young lecturer who promised to marry her.

She said a particular student also wanted to date her but she declined after she found out he was a cultist.

On that fateful day (July 31, 2001), some cultists stormed the home of her lecturer boyfriend and killed him in her presence.

The family of the deceased lecturer accused the lady of being their accomplice as she was asked to name the cultists involved in the murder. She told them she didn't know the cultists because they were masked.

The lady was later arrested and arraigned for conspiracy because nobody was caught. She was later sentenced to death.

She revealed that her father died after she was sentenced to death and her mother stood strongly by her after selling some of their properties to follow up the case.

After waiting many years for her execution, the lady was later discharged and acquitted on the 12th of July, 2013 after she was found innocent.

The woman who is now married - just welcomed a new baby few months ago and decided to share her story to the world.

Boko Haram notifies military of fresh attack

Boko Haram insurgents have threatened another attack on the military base at Jiddari -Polo , Maiduguri .
The terrorists on Monday attacked farmers in the area , hacking four to death while one was left with severe injuries .
One of the survivors of the Monday attack, Mala Umara , told AFP that the terrorists came in large numbers .
“They came in large numbers and killed four and left the other man seriously injured ,” the 75 - year -old farmer said .
The insurgents were believed to belong to the Abubakar Shekau group .
Umara , added that while sparing him , the insurgents instructed him to tell the Nigerian Army to prepare for another attack.
“They asked me to deliver a message to the soldiers that they should be prepared for an attack soon ,” the septuagenarian told AFP .
Another survivor , Abba Muhammad , said , “ Five of them encircled me , but I instinctively bolted .”
The attack was also confirmed by a local militia leader , Babakura Kolo .
