December 3, 2014 Press Statement Buhari’s Stand on Insurgency Unpatriotic - PDP Buhari giving his presidential declaration, 2014 SaharaReporters Media The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is constrained to take on former military ruler and four-time aspirant to the office of the President, General Muhammadu Buhari, on the insinuation contained in his declaration that the Federal Government has failed in tackling the problem of insurgency and that he will end the scourge if he is elected President. It is unfortunate that General Buhari, being a former head of state, has continued to play politics with a very serious security challenge which has claimed the lives of many Nigerians by always trying to use the pains of the people to score cheap political points at a time all patriotic Nigerians are joining hands with government to look for solution. Rather than show patriotism by collaborating with the Federal Government, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant prefers that the nation has no solution until the time he is able to step in as president with his “magic wand” to end the insurgency. This not only exposes a height of insensitivity but also a clear absence of genuine love and concern for the people. Assuming, without conceding that he has the solution to the problem, should Buhari as a prominent citizen not have put the country first before any selfish political agenda and personal aggrandizement? Whereas, the Federal Government has shown incontrovertible commitment to ending the insurgency by deploying troops and equipping the military, opposition leaders including General Buhari have continued in their desperate attempt to sabotage the efforts by making statements that encourage insurgency and which are capable of demoralizing and dividing our security agencies. Nigerians appreciate the fact that the Federal Government has been able to sustain the battle to repel the insurgents through the gallant efforts of our armed forces, who have continued to put their lives on the line in defence of our nation and her people. In the last four years, the Federal Government has deployed huge budgetary allocations towards the fight against terror. Our military, which has suffered years of neglect, is being re-equipped, care is being provided for victims and the displaced while advocacy, consultations as well as national and international collaborations, have been strengthened to find lasting solution to the challenge. In particular, our President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has shown strength, commitment and character in taking decisions and steps that are salutary to ending the scourge despite the attempts to distract him by unpatriotic elements whose agenda is to destabilize and balkanize the nation as a means to achieve political control. His candor, humility and strict adherence to rules in the overall effort have been a source of strength for Nigerians and the principal factor for the sustained unity and stability of the nation. It is against this background that the PDP sees General Buhari’s declaration and the seeming self-indictment contained in the declaration as cheap politics, especially considering his antecedents and the disposition of his party, the APC, in promoting division among Nigerians and stocking the embers of violence and insurgency through series of sustained incendiary statements. It is on record that in April 2002, preparatory to the 2003 presidential elections, General Buhari urged that Muslims should vote only for Muslims. His statement, which targeted at the very heart of our unity as a nation also sought to promote our nation’s religious fault line as a basis for electing a President. A stunned nation watched General Buhari flag off his campaign in 2011 in Kaduna with the pen logo of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) held like a spear in his hands and during which he told his supporters to use it (pen) to pluck out the eyes of anybody that tampers with their votes. As if unmoved by the consequences of his utterances in 2011, General Buhari on May 14, 2012, invoked imagery of bloodshed ahead of 2015 elections while addressing members of his defunct CPC who visited him in Kaduna when he said “If what happened in 2011 (alleged rigging) should happen again in 2015, by the grace of God, the dog and the baboon would be soaked in blood." It is instructive to note that, to General Buhari and the APC, election is rigged only if the APC loses but free and fair when they win. Nigerians may recall that the same General Buhari who, in recent times, has been criticizing the Federal Government as not doing enough to crush insurgency had in June 2, 2013 protested military crackdown on the insurgents. In an interview with LIBERTY FM, he lamented that Boko Haram members were being killed and their houses demolished unlike the "special treatment" given to the Niger Delta militants by the Federal Government. Seven days after, the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in the same capacity for the then Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), issued a statement condemning the proscription of the Boko Haram sect as a "violation of the constitution." The ACN opposed as offensive, Section 5 (1) of the order, which prescribes a term of imprisonment of not less than 20 years ‘for any person who knowingly, in any manner, directly or indirectly, solicits or renders support for the commission of an act of terrorism or to a terrorist group.” We have an opposition party whose leaders tend to celebrate attacks by insurgents aimed at brutalizing the citizens and embarrassing the nation and the present administration. When a founding chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande, said a few weeks back in a newspaper interview that the APC had a solution to Boko Haram but would keep it until they got to power, Nigerians wondered if there existed certain links that were more than meet the eyes. It is indeed sad that General Buhari, who was once a military governor of the Northeast, which encompassed Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, has failed to use his connections there to assist and bring peace to the nation, which he desires to rule once more. Instead, he chooses to accuse the Federal Government and the military of a hidden agenda to destroy the North, thereby hampering the efforts of the military to build relationships and trust in communities affected by the insurgency. A prominent Nigerian in the mold of General Buhari should not be playing politics with the destiny of a nation and the security of Nigerians. The PDP wishes to state without any equivocation that General Buhari has failed to articulate any vision to unite and prosper Nigeria since he came into politics. He has failed to show any commitment to the Nigerian project and the advancement of its cause as a nation state; instead, a sinister and divisive mission robed with an outdated fabled anti-corruption agenda is all that is being presented. Finally, we call on all Nigerians irrespective of their political leanings to unite behind our military in the war against terror. No time in the history of our country has there been a greater need than now for all Nigerians from all the corners of our great nation to act and display patriotism in actions and deeds. The time to show support and love for our soldiers and victims of the insurgents is now. Whenever you see a Nigerian soldier smile at him, tell him well-done and wish him well. A united Nigeria remains our only hope for individual and collective growth and greatness. We should not allow comments and statements based on the selfish interests of certain Nigerians to becloud our love for one another. Our President loves a united Nigeria; the leadership of our Party remains committed to strengthening our unity. We plead with the opposition to be more patriotic in their words and deeds. idnoble135: do you have a problem with pentecostals?i have a problem with anybody who thinks he is a custodian of the Holy Spirit. You usually find people like that in pentecostal churches. I believe strongly you are one and thats why you would have such a disposition to opine that you have the Spirit of God and another proffessed christian does not. as such u are in a better position to explain scriptures to such a person. Its either pride or lack of knowledge at work in such a case. both lead to destruction. thats why i pointed out that scripture. |

Acidosis: Are you a gospel singer, a chorister, a vocalist, a music director? Do you play Drums-sets (acoustic, electric), Keyboard, Bass guitar, Lead guitar, Trumpet, Saxophone, Violin, Flute, Conga, Tambourine et cetera.. ??I have always believed i have a natural talent for instruments especially the keyboard, but i have never gone for any training. Kindly provide info on where i can inexpensively learn to play the keyboard and the saxophone proffessionaly. I would like to start from there. |

" Iam the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep” (John 10:11) “and other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, [and] ONE SHEPHERD” (John 10:16) The scripture above says that Jesus is the good shepherd, and there shall be one fold and ONE SHEPH(word “Pastor” is the Latin translation of the English word “Shepherd”. So there shall be one fold and “ONE PASTOR”. If we would take your interpretation of 1 TM 2:5,and relate it to the above, it means that anyone who is called a pastor is taking the role of Jesus, and anyone who calls another human being “Pastor” has committed the sin you accuse Catholics of. Hold that one there. ( “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in Darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12) This statement implies that Jesus is the only light, the One light of the world for it did not say “I am a light” but “I am the Light”. Jonathan is THE president of Nigeria and there cannot be another president of Nigeria at least while Jonathan is still President. For this reason, anyone calls another person “light of the world” has committed a blunder, a sin, that is if we should take your interpretation of 1TM2:5. “Ye are the light of the world” (Matt. 5:14) But above, Jesus with his own mouth now tells his disciples that they are the light of the world. Doesn’t this sound like a contradiction? For somebody who reads the bible like a story book, It might appear as such, but those who read in line with spiritual insight know that though Jesus is the Only and One Light of the world, his disciples simply radiate His light to the world. The fact that Jesus doesn’t say that “You are radiating my Light to the world” but “You are Light” does not mean that the former is not the true position. I am sure if should go deeper in scripture, I can find more analogies like the above, but the 2 above are sufficient. Let’s look at 1TM2:5 For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; The word mediator simply means “a person who mediates, especially between parties at variance”. To mediate means to intervene in a dispute to bring about an agreement or reconciliation. Man was at variance with God and Jesus came and intervened in the dispute between man and God to bring about reconciliation. Does this mean that Jesus is the only mediator between man and God? Certainly it does; for no other person could have reconciled man to God. It was the sacrifice of the cross that brought about the reconciliation of mankind to God. Does this mean that no one can share in Christ’s role as a mediator between man and God? Certainly Not. Anyone who tries to reconcile a man to God is actually mediating between man and God but only on the benefit of THE MEDIATOR Jesus. No other person can mediate between man and God in his or her own name and Capacity. An unbeliever is unreconciled to God, and Infact an enemy of God (James 4:4), true or false? Now a man who preaches the gospel to an unbeliever, and gets him to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, what has that person done? Has he not reconciled the unbeliever to God? Has he not intervened in the dispute between that unbeliever and God to bring about reconciliation? Has he not mediated between that unbeliever and God? If I call that person a mediator between man and God would I have committed a crime? I would be wrong If I claim that by the benefit of that person’s capacity and ability outside Christ, such a person is Mediator between man and God, but once it is based on the established role of the mediation of Christ, which is hinged of the sacrifice of the cross, I have in no way undermined that Jesus is the One Mediator between man and God. The same goes for Advocate, Helper, Benefactress etc. So, that Mary is called madiatrix does not mean that the church is saying she is mediating between God and Man on the basis of her benefit. Mary has nothing to offer anybody outside of Christ. Infact the only reason why we know Mary is because of Christ. She is mediating on the benefit of THE MEDIATION of Christ, achieved at the cross. Note that the Catechism you quoted stated clearly that it is on the basis of her “manifold intercession” - which means prayers for us – that she is invoked under those titles. Weather she can intercede (pray) for us or hear us at all is beyond this thread. |

Truthfully, I do not think anything I write here will make any difference to you (I really wish it could), I have however resorted to prayers for your conversion, not for necessarily you to return to the Catholic Church but at least for you to come out of the trap you are in, before you end up like the founder of Jehover’s witness, whose footsteps you are already following. honeychild: Believe me my brother, the fear of hell has never kept anyone from sinning. The only thing that keeps you holy in this sinful world is love. When you truly love God with all your heart, the thought of hurting his feelings is what keeps you from sinning.my dear say what you know. the fear of hell has got people thinking about what becomes of them after this life and that leads to conversion. if you doubt it, throw up a thread and ask how many people that the fear of damnation got them thinking about their spiritual lives. yes, the fear of hell does not make a man who is in gear to sin to stop because at that point, the flesh is in charge. however when a man is contemplating sin, one of the considerations is the consequence of sin of which the punishment of hell is one, and the prize of endurance of which the glory of heaven is the chief. if one has no fear of the punishment that is attributable to sin, one of the major deterants to sinning has just been removed. see it as you like though. |

Boomark: it is not written in the bible that the bible is the sole authority. But every Christian should know that the "Word Of God" is sole authority that have. Do you have other sources you get authority from?yes i have. it is the church which is headed by christ and inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is the same church that brought the bible that you have in your hands. i am confident that if the church brought forth the bible which is the word of God, the same church cannot bring forth that which is against the word of God. If the Holy Spirit so carefully guided the Church and kept them from error when selecting the 27 books of the new testament out of the many books being circulated in christendom at that time, i have no doubt whatsoever in my mind that the Holy Spirit was well able to point out all errors that they believed at that time. If the Holy Spirit did not point it out to them, then they were not errors. it might interest you to know that all these practices of the catholic church which you now call pagan were already being practiced way before the bible came to be. In consistency with the way God works, he never does anything great with men if he has not first purged them of their errors and sin. repentance and purification are sin qua nons and prerequisites for God to use a people. Dont get all emotional about this. think along these lines and be truthful to yourself. Let me ask you, if you had the power to cause your child to carry out an abstract assignment correctly, and this child of yours is doing a whole lot of things that are wrong and is leading to his destruction, and you love the child, which would you first do? correct those grave errors or get him to do the fresh assignment you have for him and then dump him afterwards? |

frosbel: Funny enough , many of the people who call JWs cults are even worse cults with worse doctrines of demons such as :frosbel, you are a taze russels in the making. go and check how he started and see the similarities. he rejected all orthodox christian stands and was interpreting the bible as he liked. of course the devil took over him at some point in time and he began to make false prophesies claiming it is from the bible. You know what happened to him, HE DIED. i just dey look you dey go. your path is the same as he's. if you wont see the devil fave to face at the end of your life, humble yourself and know that you dont have any authority to interprete scripture. that function was given to the appostles and thier successors. so any of your interpretation of scripture that does not align with that of the Holy Catholic and Appostolic church is error. take it or leave it for the Lors gave them that authority. |

To anyone who has an ear, frosbel is a false teacher or writer or threader or whatever we call someone who writes on a forum like this. jesus mentioned hell just as much as he mentioned heaven if not more. he never minced words that hell was a place of punishment, torment and suffering. christianity has maintained this for its existence for 2k years until the likes of charles russells of watchtower society (jw) started to say it is common mans grave that is permanent death. the latter years shall be accompanied by many false prophets who go around teaching heresies claiming that they are breaking free from mens doctrines. that is what charles russells claimed, that is what joseph smith of church of jesus christ of LDS claimed, jim jones who led so many to a mass suicide, the list is endless. and now we have the likes of frosbels. thier patterns pretty much the same: they bash the catholic church and call them pagans and apostates since the earliest days, and gradually begin to refute all fundamental christian teachings:Trinity, hell, original sin, incarnation, the formuler for baptism etc. they claim the bible as the source of their position while all the while they twist it to suit their purposes. these guys say a lot of reasonable things but throw up very satanic ideas which does the damage, and sell it to weak minds who are carried away by the seeming reasonability of some of their other works. unfortunately, their pride and by extension their refusal to subject themselves to any form of authority has made them subjects of the devil whose downfall was as a result of pride. their end would is not likely to be different from the devils except those of them who are still alive repent. 1 Like |
