Christianity Etc › Re: What does it take to be Godly? by donnie(m): 4:17pm On Jun 01, 2006
Thank you. Of course but when we do God's Word, we are walking in obedience. However, this is what i see to be the difference bw 'obeying' and 'doing' God's word.

Hebrews 10:7
Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

When Jesus came, he was concious of what had already been written of Him in the scriptures. He actually stepped in to the scriptures. He acted them out.

In the same way, when we look at the Word of God(God's mirror). We see who we really are. But we might look at ourselves and not see the same thing. Now, to do God's word, you call yourself what God calls you and act accordingly regardless of what you see or feel.

For instance, the broke guy who is a christain does not actually obey the commandment 'thou shalt not steal'. He sees in God's mirror that he is already rich and so he says the same thing and acts that way. He steps into the Word. He begins to speak of the Lord's provision and so he will not steal. Before long, his mind is renewed and he recieves ideas that will eventually change his status. The letter killeth, but the Spirit gives life.

2 Corinthians 8:9 (Whole Chapter)
For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

However, in walking in obedience in the Holy Ghost, He  daily gives us specific commands concerning what he has asked us to do. He leads and we follow. This is the way i was brought up.
Christianity Etc › Re: The NBC ban of unverified TV miracles in Nigeria by donnie(m): 3:22pm On Jun 01, 2006
ajia23:
The truth is NBC was right to ban any kind of unverified miracles being televised. The National Broadcast Code, which is the document with full legal effect that governs broadcasting in Nigeria, clearly states that all religions should be given 10% of airtime.
The real issue is if such a code is consistent with a democratic situation as we have in nigeria. There is such a thing as freedom of expression, the freedom to hold whatever relious beliefs you choose as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others. Like i said, those codes associated with the media are for the military dictatorship kind of government and not for a democracy. There is need for a change and brother, that change aint far away.

The church are not the only ones affected. I read in the papers where an NBC official siad they had recieved so far over 250 applications for licences for TV and radio. According to him, the applications have since been assesed and fowarded to the presidency for approval. There is the need to have a more independednt media in our nation. One without overbearing government influeance.

ajia23:
At least now with the ban, the churches will reduce the lenght of their programmes and consequently tailor them to evangelising with brevity, which serves the purpose of the NBC at maintaining the 10% religious content which has consistently been flouted by most of the TV stations in Nigeria.
Well, since the bann, not only have the length of our programs been increased, we now show daily on almost every TV staion in the country. We have become so much more influencial than ever before. When we hold programs now, the entire nation is aware. They know something is happening. So who wins? satan or the church?

In April, 3.5 million people gathered to hear God's Word at the mouth of his prophet and satan could do nothing about it.

ajia23:
It is instructive to note that in Kenya just last week,a woman who tried to copy the Nigerian Pastors was recommended by their first lady, for investigation by the police, of fraud by claiming to heal HIV/AIDS by miracles etc. Promptly she was indeed investigated and charged to court on those charges. This is what should happen in sane societies. Nigeria ought not to be an exception. I will implore the Nigerian police to do their jobs so that NBC will not even need to issue that kind fof directive. Any pastor that lays claim to healing by miracles, and uses this to attract and defraud people should be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Well pity, because they have already done their investigations and found them to be true. Sane societies indeed.  Are they more sane than those in South Africa, Europe and America where we have our programs showing daily? We own satelite stations airing from  Europe, south Africa and Togo to the rest of the world. We hold meetings around the world with several thousands in attendance.

God has given us this country for our possesion and he will continue to increase our influence in the land. Righteousness will prevail. The wicked will have their influence taken from them. Time is up for the devil , o glory to God!
Christianity Etc › Re: Deeper Life Bible Church: Why Avoid Us? by donnie(m): 12:52pm On May 29, 2006
More. . .

Now this is the amazing thing about your reasoning. "Has been defeated" and "will defeat satan" are two very opposite and convoluted things: the first is past tense and the second is future. Question: has Satan been defeated already or he is still waiting to be defeated in the future? How can you begin to appropriate a victory by faith if satan is somehow waiting to be defeated in the future?

Satan has been defeated, in fact destroyed in Christ's work on the cross - bold Biblical statement without contradiction! (Heb. 2:14). But that the Lord "will defeat satan and his angels" is a contradiction of clear Biblical teaching, for they are already defeated! (Col. 2:15).

The text you're referring to concerning the sword of the Lord's mouth is 2 Thes. 2:8 - "And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming." This does not refer to Satan and his angels, but to the man of sin, the son of perdition (vs. 3) who is also called 'that Wicked' (or 'the lawless one' - NIV) in the verse just quoted. He is not to be confused with Satan and his angels, for when you read these verses in their contexts and study them with other verses, the son of perdition, the man of sin, is the very same as the antichrist - who is yet to come. It is the antichrist that is there described as the one whom the Lord will destroy/consume with the spirit of his mouth - symbolically described as the sword of His mouth (Rev. 1:16).

I don't read anywhere in the Bible that the Lord and Satan will be engaged in a great battle in the future. Christ both defeated and destroyed him on the Cross, so there's no battle arranged between them in the future. Rather, the Bible says that there's yet a battle between the devil and the arch-angel Michael (Rev. 12:7). It is the antichrist (not the devil), in his most diabolic and hideous character, who will gather the kings of the earth and their armies to make war against the Lord Jesus and His army; but of course, the former will be seized and tossed into the lake of fire (Rev. 19:19-20. See also ch. 17:11-14).

You see, when you keep mixing up and confusing the devil and the antichrist (the beast, the son of perdition), you'll be contradicting yourself about whether or not the devil and his angels have already been defeated.

I don't know where you got the idea from that the feet of the body of Christ are 'lowest n dirtiest' members and the babes. There's no such thing taught in God's Word about the Body of Christ being described in such unfortunate terms. When once you stretch this idea out of proportion, you lose sight of what the Body of Christ actually means in the Bible.

Powerful, proud and cunning is all what the enemy is; and if you're taking that for granted you're missing the point and speaking things into the Bible that are not there. The enemy has power - diabolical power - but he can't exercise that power over the Spirit-filled believer. That doesn't mean that he can't harrass or resist believers, but only as far as God permits him, and no more. That is why we understand why the Lord said to the church in Smyrna: "Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life." (Rev. 2:10). It takes more than just pride and cunning for the devil to cast saints into prison: he does so by the diabolical powers he possesses. When saints are tried, they come forth as gold (Job 23:10), and then we can understand why God spoke to the church in Smyrna about what they were going to face.

Just because I call your attention to what the Bible clearly states about the enemy doesn't mean that the Kingdom of God is a strange phenomenon to me. Some of the things you stated are not taught in the Bible, and I've addressed them accordingly. The victory we have in Christ in sure, and the battle we fight is real as Ephesians 6:12 says we wrestle against principalities and powers and against spiritual wickedness in high places. These are clear facts stated in the Bible, and anyone ignoring it is playing dice; which is what you seem to be doing by trying to assert that it is "not a fight with demons."
Who does the anti-christ represent? Whose mind does he have? Where does he derive his authority from? Whose mission is he to carry out? when you talk of evil spirits, who do they answer to?

When we wrestle, what do we expect to be the result? Is our mission to kill devils? What kind of wrestling is it?

We do a lot of wrestling in our christian walk however, this kind of wrestling must be clarly understood.

I would have loved to go on with these issues but i dont think it is healthy anymore or even necessary.

We have life ahead of us to live. The results we see in our christian ministry is the result of the revelation we have and are functioning in. Shalom.

Hey,

Good right up! but there are certain issues in your comment which i will like to throw more light on.
Hi everyone,

The discussion should not be confined to the Christian perspective. It all depends on the context of godliness; for to be godly is not limited to being just Christian.
I do not agree. Because the very essence of Godliness is in Christ jesus. Jesus is the express image of the father's person.
1 Timothy 3:16
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
One definition of it is "having great reverence for God; pious", and a lot of non-Christian people exhibit that, even in a religious sense, without necessarily believing in the tenets of Christianity. This may surprise a lot of us Christians, but the Bible reveals that some people who did not hear of the Gospel of Jesus Christ before it was revealed to them, actually were demonstrating a life of godliness by their consciences; and on that basis God will judge them - read Rom. 2:5-16. There were people who were devout/pious towards God before even they heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Cornelius in Acts 10:1-2 is an example); but rejection of that Gospel translates into impiety towards God in the Christian sense.

From the Christian point of reference, there are two mysteries that are in existence in the world today:

# the mystery of iniquity (2 Thes. 2:7), and

# the mystery of godliness (1 Tim. 3:16).

Everyone falls in either of these two mysteries based on who is at work in any person - either the spirit of the prince of the power of the air (another appellation for Satan - Eph. 2:2); or the Spirit of Christ. When a person believes in Jesus, he/she is given the Spirit of God to indwell and empower to a godly life. There'll be challenges along the way, and such are God's ways of affording believers opportunities to demonstrate the sincerity of their faith in Jesus.
You have finally succeeded in  defining godliness according to the Word as shown in the bible.
It takes more than mere lip confession to be godly
Depends on what you are confessing. If you are consistently confessing the Word of faith over your life, it will surely prevail. It shall not return void but accomplish that for which it was sent.
In our world today, there are some who profess to be having a form of godliness, but denying the power of thereof (2 Tim. 3:5). However, for a committed believer in Jesus, godliness reaches deep down and springs from the heart, and can stand any trial by the power of the Spirit of God. This does not suggest a literal perfectionist view that believers never sin or make mistakes; but the point is that a true believer never endorses godlessness.

Godliness for the Christian is founded on faith in Jesus Christ, a commitment to love God, and a demonstration of that faith and love in intelligent obedience to His Word.
True, it is the doers of the Word that are blessed and not just the hearers. But we must understand what it is to do the Word. As a christain, we are commanded to do the Word and not just to obey. Because we have been called already, 'obedient children' When we recieved the gospel of Christ we became his obedient children having obeyed the gospel.

Now we are asked to do the Word. This is different form obeying. Because we were born of the very Word of God. We came from his Word. The life we have  recieved cam from his word. That eternal life which was with the father. So to do the Word is to live the Word. To have the Word of God in our mouths always. That way it will be impossilble to walk otherwise. Because your life is the character of your Words.

Joshua 1:8:

8This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

We can notice certain important things in this passage:

1. The Word is not meant to remain their heart but also in their mouths all day and night. In their medidtations. Muttering, mumuring the word every now and then to yourself.

2. The passage did not say, mditate on the Word and then you go and  do the word. No! meditaion will necessarily result in the performance. When the Word becomes your daily meditaion it will cause your body to follow in the same direction. It says,'that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is writen. The doing is the result of the confession'.
The practical demonstration of Christian godliness is the antithesis of ungodliness and worldiness (Tit. 2:12). At the same time, it is the concern for others and transparency in our dealings (I Tim. 2:2), and the enduring commitment to faith in Jesus even under persecution and trials (2 Tim. 3:12). How is this possible in our world today? The answer is in 2 Pet. 1:3 - God, by virtue of His divine power, "has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence."
True, we are to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. To know him is love him and to love him is to become like him.

How's about this luck.

A guy I went to school with- happened to be a committed Christian and genuinely nice guy recently lost his girlfriend and the use of his legs in a car crash that wasn't his fault.

As for me: I often drive above the speed limit without wearing a seatbelt, with a ladyfriend by my side. Needless to say I've never been in an accident.

I guess God really gets off on 'blessing' (i.e. not tormenting) those who do not believe he exists.
yeah your right. How about my dogs that have not fallen sick in years. They have never been accident victims.

God allows his rain to fall on both the wicked and the saints. A time will come when the wheat will be seperated from the weeds. The weeds will be gathered together and burnt up.

Christianity Etc › Re: Evolution Or Creation: Which Do You Believe? by donnie(m): 7:12pm On May 23, 2006
I first saw those pictures in secondary school.

Like i said, i do not have any problem with the possibility of these creatures to have existed millions of years ago.

But they are not the decendants of Adam. They were not made in the image of God.

They existed in the pre-adamic world along with the other creatures.

But they were all destroyed by God when he destroyed the old world.

God did not create the earth to be without form and void as we see in genesis chapter 1. It later became without form and void.

Isaiah 45
18For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else
.

This is what happened to the earth:

Isaiah 24
1Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.

It was turned up side down. This explains the fossils of bones, metals etc. which some scientists/evolutionists use to support the wrong conclusions which they trying to sell.

My bible does not contradict the possible existence of those creatures at some time.

There is the description of a Dinnassour my the bible:

   Job 41

1"Job, can you pull the leviathan out of the sea with a fish hook?
Can you tie down its tongue with a rope?
2Can you put a rope through its nose?
Can you stick a hook through its jaw?
3Will it keep begging you for mercy?
Will it speak gently to you?
4Will it make an agreement with you?
Can you make it your slave for life?
5Can you make a pet out of it like a bird?
Can you put it on a leash for your young women?
6Will traders offer you something for it?
Will they divide it up among the merchants?
7Can you fill its body with harpoons?
Can you throw fishing spears into its head?
8If you touch it, it will fight you.
Then you will remember never to touch it again!
9No one can possibly control the leviathan.
Just looking at it will terrify you.
10No one dares to wake it up.
So who can possibly stand up to me?
11Who has a claim against me that I must pay?
Everything on earth belongs to me.
12"Now I will speak about the leviathan's legs.
I will talk about its strength and its graceful body.
13Who can strip off its outer coat?
Who would try to put a bridle on it?
14Who dares to open its jaws?
Its mouth is filled with terrifying teeth.
15Its back has rows of shields
       that are close together.
16Each one is so close to the next one
that not even air can pass between them.
17They are joined tightly to one another.
They stick together and can't be forced apart.
18The leviathan's snorting throws out flashes of light.
Its eyes shine like the first light of day.
19Fire seems to spray out of its mouth.
       Sparks of fire shoot out.
20Smoke pours out of its nose.
It is like smoke from a boiling pot over burning grass.
21Its breath sets coals on fire.
Flames fly out of its mouth.
    22Its neck is very strong.
People run to get out of its way.
23Its rolls of fat are close together.
They are firm and can't be moved.
24Its chest is as hard as rock.
It is as hard as a lower millstone.
    25When the leviathan rises up,
       even mighty people are terrified.
They run away when it moves around wildly.
26A sword that strikes it has no effect.
Neither does a spear or dart or javelin.
27It treats iron as if it were straw.
It crushes bronze as if it were rotten wood.
28Arrows do not make it run away.
Stones that are thrown from slings are like straw hitting it.
29A club seems like a piece of straw to it.
It laughs when it hears a javelin rattling.
30Its undersides are like broken pieces of pottery.
It leaves a trail in the mud like a threshing sled.
31It makes the ocean churn like a boiling pot.
It stirs up the sea like perfume someone is making.
32It leaves a shiny trail behind it.
You would think the ocean had white hair.
33Nothing on earth is equal to the leviathan.
That creature is not afraid of anything.
34It looks down on proud people.
It rules over all those who are proud."

So, No shaking!

Bros, you didn't answer the question.
Does God talk to people in Tongues?
God being a Spirit does NOT need a haha kuku uu nanijh;jibdiuvvops to talk to an angel as the angel would automatically know what Gods wants done.

Yes, God does speak to his people in tongues. These messages are often times recieved and spoken by the one who recieves the message.

At other times, a person can pray to God from his spirit in other tongues.

Isaiah 28
10For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

11For with stammering lips and another tongue will He[God] speak to this people.

12To whom He said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

Halleluyah! Oh what refreshing we experience when we spend time praying in other tongues. This is the rest, yet they will not hear.

My dear, It is the occult that copy things from the church and not the other way round.
There you go again, donnie. You're still looking at issues from just one side of what is involved in this matter. It should have sufficed you to see that all is involved as I've shared with you; not just the emphasis that "it's a fight of faith". This fight of faith, with/against whom are we in conflict? Okay, if you're so happy removing what ought not to be, you're a man of your ideas - and I respect that. However, let me help you a bit more:

  # Oh, I see. So, Christ didn't know that they didn't have any power at all before He said: "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you" (Luke 10:19)? What then did He mean by "all the power of the enemy" if 'they do not have any power whatsoever'? No, I'm not afraid of the enemy, but I'm not ignorant of the fact that God says the enemy has power. The fact is, the Bible does not deny that the enemy has power; it rather shows me as a Christian that his power cannot overwhelm me as I walk in obedience to God by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Apostle Paul knew that Satan has been defeated on the cross, but he did not deny that this arch-enemy still exercises power on the earth today. That's why he fearlessly proclaimed the goodnews of Jesus Christ to turn people from the power of Satan unto God (Acts 26:18). The balance of Scripture is that, while Satan is a defeated foe, his power is not denied in the spiritual realms. Again and again, the apostle made reference to the fact that there are diabolical powers still in operation today (Rom. 8:38 & Eph. 6:12) and we are actually wrestling with these unseen but real wicked powers (Eph. 6:12).

That the enemy is defeated by Christ: yes, that is a declared fact. But that "they do not have any power whatsoever" - No, that is not what Scripture teaches.

"Far above all principalities and power" is our declared position in Christ in the heavenlies. That does not deny that the enemy is real, and his diabolical operations are equally real. There's no need for the Bible to have warned believers to be on guard against a powerless enemy if we deny that the enemy has power at all.

I'm not trying to glorify the enemy. Rather, I'm saying balance your views from God's Word. Christ 'defeated the enemy', but that did not make the enemy extinct. He 'destroyed the devil' does not make the latter extinct. You need to maintain a balance between what is already accomplished and what needs to be appropriated.

If you're still not clear about this, do you mind explaining the following: Satan is the very same arch-enemy called the devil (Rev. 12:9). Through death, Christ already destroyed the devil before the book of Romans was written (see Heb. 2:14). Why then did the apostle write long after the death, resurrection and acsension of Christ, that: "And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly." (Rom. 16:20). Was Satan already bruised, defeated and destroyed in Christ'd death or not, before that verse was penned?
Please let me explain something. I told you that satan has power only over the ignorant. His weapon is our ignorance. You may not grab this completely but u sure will before the Lord appears. Because we are all growing.

Talking about Paul in saying that the Lord will bruise satan under our feet.

You must understand the Word of God and the way God deals with us his children.

God gives his Word and expects us to do it. This is different from obeying the Word. It is the doing of the Word. Calling yourself what the Word calls you and acting that way. That is faith.

For instance, while there are some who have recieved salvation, others are hoping for salvation at the end of the age.

The bible promises salvation and eternal life at the second ccoming of the Lord but that is the culmination of all things. That is when it will actually be fulfilled for all.

1 Peter 1:5
Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Revelation 12:10
And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

But you have to recieve that salvation and eternal life now to be sure of the one that is to be revealed.

2 Corinthians 6:2
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

It is not about mixing up scriptures fron here and there , no! We must first understand the entire message of the gospel. It tell's of the finished works of Christ! There is nothing  that was not put under the feet of Christ. Nothing! I am not explaining to you you a theory, i am telling you what many have already proved to be true.

I do not waste time in dialogue with devils. I do not give them undue attention. I do not care to find out their names. I just cast them out. I do not seek to know if it is a black or white witch. I am a doer of the Word and as such i walk in Victory always.

If you look away fron God's Word, then you will see the limitations and the demons chasing and monitoring you here and there.

You will see those ones that they say make holes in the pockets when you are not a doer of the Word in the area of finances.

Satan has been defeated, but all the work will be fulfilled at the coming of our Lord when the Lord will destroy him with the sword of his mouth. He will defeat satan and his angels in that great battle. But we appropriate that victory by faith today.

Looking from the epistles of Paul that he underestood the position of the Church as the body of Christ. He said God has raised us up with Christ and put all things under the feet of Christ.

Who are the feet? These are the lowest n dirtiest menbers of the body of Christ. Jesus is the head. These are the babes. They will eventually grow through their knowledge of God's Word until they are reigning over circumstances and the devil. But already, all things are under their feet but they do not yet know.

"What is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
    7You made him a little[a] lower than the angels;
you crowned him with glory and honor
8and put everything under his feet?[b]In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him.

We do not yet see  all things put under man because men still fail, they fall sick, they are defeated sometimes. But this is until they find out from God's Word what he has made them. When they set their gaze on Jesus, it wont be long before things begin to change. Because as we look at Jesus( the Word), we are changed in to His likeness from glory to glory(we become what the Word says).

This is what the apostle was refering to. That is when the church will be ready for the rapture. When they are walking in dominion. But those who have understanding of God's Word are already reigning in life. They know that satan has been cast out of heaven and has been defeated. They are putting him where he belongs; under their feet. But a time will come when it will be common knowledge among the saints.

We are not to be on guard against a powerful enemy but against a proud and cunning enemy.

I am not a man of my ideas but a man of faith.

The gospel of Christ is by faith from first to last. Faith in the finished Works of Christ.
This is the reason why some who r sick believe that all will be well at the appearing of the Lord and as such they do not need divine healing. They are allowing satan to reign. But the one who knows that Christ died for sickness as well as he did for sin will refuse to be sick just as he refuses to live in sin. He sill refuse to let the symtoms he is experiencing change his confession of faith: that he is the healed of God!

Salvation is now!
deliverance is completed!
Now ! Now !

Now is the day of salvation!!! Faith is the victory that overcommeth the world!

You can live in the kingdom of God Today!

mrmayor:
On that day of Pentecost 2000 years ago, those who received the gift of Holy Spirit spoke in Tongues other people could understand, thats a fact.
Today nobody can understand or interprete what these ho ho ye ye koba go go are saying even their cohorts.

Maybe God also speak to people in Tongues as everybody claims the Lord Told Me!
True, it is a fact that those who heard them speak could understand what was being said but that was a miracle. God opened their understanading to recieve the intepretation of the noise that was being heard.

They did not speak with tongues of men but of angels.

1 Corinthians 13:1 (Whole Chapter)
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Tongues of men are tongues that men understand. Tongues of angels are tongues that angels, demons and God undersatnd. It is a spiritual language.

Common sense should tell you that like on the day of penticost, if you heard 120 people speak from afar off on the top of their voices in different languages it will be impossible for each man in the crowd outside to hear one person speak his own language; since they spoke all at once. It sounded like the noise of drunkards. But their hearts were opened by the Spirit of God to understand.

That is why it was a supprise for them, each man recieving that noise that came from the upper room in his own language.

The people that gathered outside said to themselves:

"And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? "

every man heard them speak in his own language.

every man heard the noise in his language. That's what its saying.

They did not say, how come they are speaking our different languages. Or how come each man speak each of our language.

This is the gift of tongues:

1 Corinthians 14:2
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

He may not underatnad not what he is saying because he is praying with his spirit and not his mind. He is speaking mysteries (hidden truths) to God from his spirit.

1 Corinthians 14:14
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

Meaning the man does not know what he is saying. That is why we need the gift of interpretation as well.

1 Corinthians 14:13
Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

1 Corinthians 14:4
He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

To edify means to charge like a battery, to embolden, to build up!

The evidence of having reciecved the Holy Spirit is not tongues but a love for God and people and a passion for souls. A passion to see God's vison of salvation for the world actualised.

However, if you want to grow and become strong, vibrant, bold and on fire for God, You need to learn to charge up your spirit by praying in tongues.

As for the rubbish that has been spoken agianst this spiritual truth, i leave you to the Word of the Bible that will judge the world in the end.

Christianity Etc › Re: Deeper Life Bible Church: Why Avoid Us? by donnie(m): 12:30pm On May 20, 2006
It is a fight against powers of darkness alright, but these need to be understood properly.

Our position in this battle must be clearly understood and that of the powers of darkness.

Our modus operandi must be clearly understood; otherwise, we will be letting ignorance go on rampage.

I believe in Spiritual warfare. But the warfare must be clearly understood.

As a christain, I also cast out devils; you might need to know. But this should be done with understanding and with revelation.

They do not have any power whatsoever. Jesus said, "All power (not some but all) in heaven and earth is given unto me, go ye therefore! Devils thrive on the ignorance of God's children. That is their strength. But ye shall know the truth and the truth will make you free. Because the truth tells of satan's defeat in hell. Where Jesus made a show of him and his co-horts openly.

The bible says we are seated with Christ in the heavenlies, far above all principality and power. We are  not on the same rank. When we walk in, they walk out.
Not because of strong prayer but because of who we are in Christ.
@donnie,

I agree with a few things you posted, and would like to make a few additions. Perhaps you'd need to take another look at this line which is somewhat confusing to me:

I don't think that is sound reasoning, because the Bible tells us indeed that even after Christ defeated principalities and powers, we still wrestle against these principalities and powers who are Satan's cohorts. Let me outline them:

# Christ defeated the kingdom of darkness on the Cross -
Col. 2:15 - And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it
("it" points to 'the Cross' in vs. 14).

# Believers wrestle against/with principalities and powers -
Eph 6:12 - For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers
of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places
.

The Bible even tells us that even though Christ destroyed Satan on the Cross, believers still have to be on guard against this fiendish enemy:
That battle like i said is a fight of faith. Meaning , it is a fight using the living Word.

The battle field is the mind which you need to conquer with the Word.

2 Corinthians 10:5
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought  to the obedience of Christ;

The weapons of the devil are the thoughts, imaginations, and mindsets that are not according to God's Word.

These are sometimes thrown as darts ato our minds. These thoughts and mindsets need to be brought to the obedience of Christ through the Word of God.

So it is essentially a fight of faith. This is the good fight! Good because we know the end from the beginning. The winner has already been declared!

1 Timothy 6:12
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

2 Timothy 4:7
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

Put the Word in your heart and in your mouth and speak it under the annointing of the Holy Ghost and watch out for change!
# Christ destroyed the devil
Heb 2:14 - Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the
same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.

# Believers be on guard
1 Pet. 5:8 - Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom
he may devour.
We are still saying the same thing here. He has been defeated and we execute that defeat not by fighting as though we do not know he has been defeated but by steadfastly proclaiming the Word of our salvation and victory to Satan's shame and defeat.

and they overcame by the blood of the Lamb and by the Word of their testimony.

So you can face any resistance by refusing to sway away from God's Word and continueing in faith.

So rather than say, every devil monitoring my progress fall down and die (which is impossible 'because demons are spirit bengs which do not die as such);

say , In the name of Jesus I am making progress; because i have been ordained to bear fruit!

Stir yourself up by praying in other tongues, open your mouth and declare a thing and have it established.

Study the prayers of Paul. you will be amazed at his prayers. Those are new testament prayers. Praying must be done according to our undersatnding of God's Word.

Question:

Do you have details of circumstances surrounding the ban or details of occurencies before and after the ban was imposed?

They are not being sincere; they are not concerned about any verification whatsoever.

Whatever policies or decrees any government makes should be in conformity to the existing law. A policy or ban is not legal just because a few in government think it is.

Besides, the laws governing the operations of the media in Nigeria are not what should be in a democracy. They are for a military system.

Their intention was to take miracles off our TVs and that they did.

But it shall be but for a while. When the Lord is ready, things will change and there is nothing any man would be able do about it.
Christianity Etc › Re: Deeper Life Bible Church: Why Avoid Us? by donnie(m): 11:57am On May 19, 2006
Spiritual warfare is simply appropriating all that God did for us in Christ.

It is a fight of fiath and not a fight with demons, for they have been defeated, rendered helpless.
Christianity Etc › Re: Deeper Life Bible Church: Why Avoid Us? by donnie(m): 11:54am On May 19, 2006
To destroy ignorance, you do not pray that the mountain, praincipalities, powers or watever of ignorance should be destoyed.

You simply go for the Word, and when you get a hold of it, keep saying it! dont stop talking it! keep it before your eyes until it shows up.

The cure for ignorance is the Word. Faith cometh by hearing.

Prayer has its place and will ensure that there is an atmosphere of power.

I luv listen to Pastor Kumuyi. At least I know he is annointed of God and he believes in the power of God to heal, save and deliver.

I will rather go there than go to a place where rather than show you who you are in Christ, they spend their time fighting demons and praying for the death of their enemies. They are so full of hatred.

This prayer point has now become popular among them:

All mine enemies, fall down and die!!! grin
Christianity Etc › Re: Should We Use Images And Symbols In Our Worship? by donnie(m): 3:14pm On May 15, 2006
Of course not!

I used to think it as only the catholics that were in error in this regard but a closer look has made me understand that even the protestants, charismatics and penticostals are guilty of  falling into the same error.

They condemn keeping of images of Jesus or Mary but they have images for The Holy Spirit: The white dove. This is an insult to the personality of the Holy Spirit who is Himself God.

The Holy Spirit is not a dove; neither does He look like a dove.

In the time of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everyhere to REPENT!

HND,

true humility my friend is submitting to the finished work of Christ, without trying to be anything of your own self but that which christ has made you to be. It is accepting that his work for us on that cross was sufficient, final and powerful enough for the salvation of all mankind.

It has nothing to do with leaving the Master's table to eat with dogs.

It has nothing to do with denying the Lord Jesus and his testimony of himself as the way the truth and the life, and the only mediator between God and man.

According to the words of Paul the Apostle , they ae ignorant of the righteousness of God and they go about to establish their own righteousness, they have not submitted to the righteousnessof God.

What about those who went to bed and woke up to find that they are paralysed, or even those who never lived afterwards to tell the story undecided

Oh humans, do you know that there are those who claim that Lazurus who was dead for 4 days, whom Jesus raised from the dead according to the scriptures, did not really die and that he was in a state of coma?
Christianity Etc › Re: Have You Been Pressed During Any Of Your Bed Time? by donnie(m): 7:04pm On May 03, 2006
These things might sound fony to someone who hasnt been 'pressed' before but i tell you, they do happen.

I remember as a child my sister once found long scars on my back like those of finger nails ( I did not keep long nails).

Later on, even when i just recieved Christ i experienced this pressing thing a few times.

But now, no demon in his right mind will come near my room. I will even be offended to hear it happened to someone in my environment.

I remember one night while serving (NYSC) in the Northern part if Nigeria, a dark figure, like a shadow approached my window. As it did, you could actually sense a very evil presence approaching.

All i did was sit up on my bed and say, "GET OUT!!" with a loud voice and it disappeared immediately.

You know, these spirit beings can't press you when you are on fire for God and when the light of God's Word shines in your spirit.

Ensure that you are not cold. Ensure that you are in the army, doing the work of the kingdom.

Ensure that your life is a burning fire at all times. Be full of the Spirit.

Study God's Word, speak it aloud to yourself and pray in tongues always.

Do not give devils undue attention, for they have been defeated. Do not even spend time at night praying against them either for they have been paralysed.

The bible says you are seated with christ far above all principality and power and every name that is named. In heaven, on earth and under the earth.

All you need do is say, "Get out!" knowing who you are and your position in Christ and satan will flee. No need for sleepless nights of prayer against demons.

Through knowledge shall the just be delivered.
Christianity Etc › Re: Evolution Or Creation: Which Do You Believe? by donnie(m): 6:07pm On May 03, 2006
I believe in the possibility of evolution for a time in the world that then existed (before Adam).

But since Adam, over six thousand years, there has been no evolution.

There are facts: fossils of homo-erectus (ape-men), dinnisoars, cities etc. which go a long way to prove the existence of life on earth millions of years ago ( whereas man has been on earth according to the bible, since Adam, for about six thousand years).

The bible does not deny or contradict the evolution theory.

But present day man and earth did not come as a result of evolution.

He spoke His Word and the earth was recreated.

He created man in his image and formed him form the dust of the earth.
