thanks guys for the reply. will be staying with my uncle for the duration of my studies. to support my application,do i need to provide any document or letter from my uncle stating that he will accomodate me for the duration of my studies?
NO! Since the rules say you must have maintenance money anyway, just leave your Uncle's address as temporary address but you don't need to supply any document. I hope you know you will still provide evidence of maintenance money even if you're staying with a family member.

Yes that is right but that doesn't mean that you will be refused if the exchange rate changes while counting the 28 days. As long as you deposited the correct amount from day one you will not be blamed if market fluctuations affects the value of your money because you can not control the exchange rate market.
Okay, that's good to know. I often think the applicant shouldn't be affected by the rate but then their ambiguous guidance notes just makes things look different.

The deposit date will be used and not the application date. You can't control exchange rate market.
Oh, okay. I didn't know that actually. What I once read was that the rate of the application date is used. I read that on page 100 of the T4 Guidance V23.0.

"If an applicant uses an overseas currency, they must write the closing balance in pounds sterling on the application form. To check it is correct, you must use the exchange rate as at the date of the application to check the value of the money in pounds sterling. To check the balance, use the website at the related link: OANDA."

Hello house, my maintenance fee has fallen short due to this Naira drop, hope it won't affect the 28 days rule... Wen I deposited it was 266 naira, as of today, it is 280 naira...
That's a bit dicey. The ECO will use the rate of the Application date and not the date you deposited the money. You should always leave excess there to avoid problems with the rate.

Type the formal letter and address it to UKVI (Abuja).

@justwise so tickets from Lagos Muritala Mohammed to london is about 400k this Christmas? or is there anywhere its lesser?
It depends on the airline too. Someone booked return from Lagos to UK (not London) last week (for travel from 4th to 21 Dec) with emirates for 200K. I advice you use wakanow to search your flight then book directly on the airline's website.

Kindly assist me on these. Can I apply for the UK student visa with a fixed deposit certificate?
It will be assumed that you don't have instant access to the money and therefore by UKVI policy, you shouldn't use it.

However, someone once posted here that he got a visa by using the fixed deposit certificate coupled with a letter from the bank that the money is available for withdrawal any time.

Try to read the previous pages where it was said and confirm the information from other sources too.

Hello Justwise and DonOms. Please I want to be double sure on this issue.I lodged money in my account on the 18th of November to account for my complete tuition fees and living expenses. I withdrew on the 21st of November to pay for my tuition deposit. The remaining money is more than enough for my tuition and living expenses.Considering my last transaction on the 21st,please when will it be advisable to print out my bank statement ? Counting from the 18th or the 21st ? I wanted to count from the 18th considering the fact that december has a lot of holidays at the end of the month ;Also my school is resuming early January. Thanks for your anticipated response.
As long as the money remaining there on the 21st Nov. is equal to or greater than the amount needed (rest of tuition + maintenance), then you can print from the 18th NOV. as you are thinking. Your 28th day of count will be Dec. 16.

In your opinion what could be enough?
If you pay the deposit of 1.6M (half tuition), you must show you have the remaining 1.6M plus the require maintenance fund. Nothing short of that is sufficient.

Please I need serious help and advise.
I got an admission into university of westminster. I just received an email from them on monday evening stating that I got the half tuition scholarship. I've paid the other half today.

However, friday 19th december would be the 28th day that I have had the maintenance funds. sad
Would I still be able to apply and get a visa before the resumption date of 5th january?
You will have only 7 working days. While it is possible to get visa within 7 working days, you should always leave 15 working days before resumption so as to be safe.

Does your school have an extended date for resumption? Contact them to have you given some 1 - 2 weeks and have them acknowledge this on your CAS note to the UKVI. This will give you rest of mind and avoidance of refusal due to late application.

please i need help on the issue of proof of funds.what proof do i need i,s it bank statement proving i have all the funds or a particular proof.cos i have 8m in my account and i just need 5m for both course fees and maintanance.the money hasn't drop 5m since the beginning of the year.should i just present a bank statement or i have to go through another process. i am confuse about the 28 days and something about the proof of evidence should be in d account not more than 31 days.cos i am thinking of applying on Wednesday
Yes, your proof of funds will be your bank statement showing all the required money. You need to prove the required money has been in your account for at least 28 days.

So, consider a date X when a transaction was made on the account (which either completes the required money or just an addition to it), and print from that date X to another date Y. The period between dates X and Y must be at least 28 days. Also, the date you print the statement must be less than 31 days from date Y.

I hope it is clearer that way.

My graduation is next month, I just obtain invitation letters for my mom, brother, sister and friend. What procedure do the need to follow and how much do they have to get in their account for the visa to be granted please
They need to submit a copy of your visa page and passport data page with a personal letter from you. They will also need evidence of accommodation such as booking a hotel or letter from your landlord that they can stay with you. Don't commit any money to hotel yet though as visa is not guaranteed.

Finally, they will need evidence of funds + payslip to support their whole travel expense. No specific money is required but it must be well above the travel expense and there shouldn't be any unexplainable lodgement in the 6-month statement. Refer to your school's webpage/Student Services for further advice.

spikesC: They will as far as they don't get above 20kg altogether.
I think Emirates is 2x35kg checking bags and 12kg hand luggage.

But am not sure, so contact them and ask
It's a single hold luggage of 30 kG and a hand luggage of 7 kG for Emirates. EAKoteyon will have to pay for extra luggage if it's above the recommended.

It should be about USD 65 per kG for Economy flight from LOS to LHR. You can use the baggage calculator to know the price: http://www.emirates.com/uk/english/plan_book/essential_information/baggages/baggage_calculator.aspx

A form you filled and submitted online... you can't alter anything on the print out. The letter can be directed to the UKVI Abuja address. The important thing is that they read it and be notified of the error. Just add the letter to your documents to be submitted.

NO, you won't need it as long as you don't plan to leave the airport especially when it's just a few hours for your connection time.

I made a mistake in the cost of maintenance per month section, I wrote the the amount of week (322) instead of month (1288) but the overall maintenance (16744) for the duration of the course is correctly stated as specified on my sponsorship letter.

Do you think that will be a problem?
Have you submitted your application (documents and interview)?

I have contacted them today and they told me that they haven't started of processing the application and asked me to wait as it takes 15 working days and i applied on 02/09/2014. Please someone help me with this as this the last extension that University has given me till 28/09/2014. I paid huge money from Indian Rupees to Pounds is too much.

Guys please help me. Thanks
Honestly? There is little or nothing you nor anyone here can do. I'll tell you this: Calm down and hope (or pray if you believe in God) that all turns out fine in your favour. If you haven't heard from them by 24th Sept (16th working day), call them back. All the best.

IntroVAT: Ok now i've gotten my visa, when can I start "touching" my maintenance funds?

I mean when can I start using it such that it could fall below 9180?

Am I still required to present evidence of funds to anyone?

Thanks
Well, whatever reason you need to start "touching" your money, remember that money is meant for your fees and maintenance in the UK and you WILL need it. No one will ask you in Nigeria again but if you get to the POE in the UK, you MAY be asked of your funds and if for any reason they need verification, you may need to provide a recent statement. NOTE: The most important thing is in bold.

sunvick: Please people,
What is the maximum amount of money a tier 4 student is suppose to travel with please.
I believe it should be below an equivalent of EURO10,000 else you will have to declare the amount to avoid being charged for Money Laundering. Ideally, you should avoid having too much money on you while travelling.

Due to the nature of exchange rates, that question is difficult to answer. The rate was #265 per £ last Friday (ATM) and was #270 per £ yesterday (POS) and today it was a high #274 per £ (POS). So, tell me how best to answer your question? smiley .

pls i have a very important question.

i have equivalent of about 1000£ in my first bank account and a naira mastercard. i.e about 270k naira, my plan is to withdraw it once i get to aberdeen in pounds. what is d limit per day? what is the max amount per withdrawal cos i dont have money for flat rate charge on each withdrawal. what is the charge for first bank.

If you are looking forward to withdrawing the whole money once, then you will have to use POS at your bank i.e. you will use your card to transfer the money to your UK account using a POS transaction.
I don't know the maximum withdrawal but I have withdrew £750 once, a number of times.

So, are you saying your fees and maintenance money are held in your uncle's name? If that is the case, you have to move the money into your own account as your uncle cannot be your legal sponsor.
