Bambamzzzz: Thats good. i want to send my wife to go and pick up mine for me too as i will not have time to leave my office but i have a question , i paid for ups to bring down to lagos and i dont think i can wait for them bcuz i want to travel by on the 8th and with what i have read here ,the courier are very slow .pls advice me on what i need to do
If you've paid for UPS, it may not be advisable to send your wife to travel to Abuja to get it. The reason is because you might miss the package especially if UKVI doesn't mail you. Your package may have been dispatched before your wife gets there. Personally, I'd advice you let UPS bring it to Lagos but track it and call them and then go to the Lagos landing hub to collect it.

gmolen: Indeed, all the invaluable information and suggestions I gathered from here in no small measure made my visa application process a lot more easier. To the glory of God, I got a mail today that my application has been approved and visa issued after about 4 working days. Special thanks to SpikesC and DonOms.
Congratulations! Welcome to the UK.

How body?
Seems the rate is finally going south (downward) shocked shocked
After I don nearly finish my program and am now rounding up angry angry
God punish devil grin grin

I don't know about card linking cos I did not request for, nor do it
But what I do know was the card was issued on my savings account long ago
I opened a current account quite later on and declined a fresh card issue ( not that they'll issue another Naira Mastercard though or do they)
Before I left Naija, all my transactions ran through my savings account cos the current account was opened mainly for dividend payments
But found when I tried to withdraw with the card here last October, the ATM kept saying insufficient fund
I was almost bunkers knowing I had more than enough funds in my savings account
Only to call GTConnect and be told the card now linked to my current account as that is their standard practice embarassed embarassed
Also that I should transfer funds from the savings to the current account so as to make withdrawals here
Even it was over the phone they helped me open and I received my Internet Banking details as I told them I didn't activate Internet banking before I left
Biko, how is it that your card is not linked to your current account?
The body is doing fine inside the cloth o cheesy thank God.
I trust you're good too and your programme is going great.

When I opened my Current account some years ago, there was an option of 'card linking' on the application form. I had the choice of allowing them to link my card with the new account or not. I chose not to, and I also told them not to issue me a separate card. I use internet banking to control the account.

I'm guessing maybe the card linking is now automatic since you recently opened the current account or perhaps, you didn't notice the option while filling out the form.

IntroVAT: I just looked at that Appendix 8 pdf file. Isn't it the same as the onle on the ukba (visa4uk) website that i'm required to fill online and print?
Your VAF9 is your main application and it's different from App8. Look at the bottom of the APP8 document and see what's written there. However, I think at some point, some VACs didn't require it but you should fill it and go with it.
TravelRe: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by DonOms(m): 12:15am On Aug 31, 2014
ochukoccna: Thanks for the insight Spikes kiss
And to think no one dropped this 'revelation' here since embarassed embarassed
Na wa O! shocked shocked
I used to think POS was limited to only retailers and supermarkets
Didn't know your bank could do it too wink
Thanks once again
Though a coursemate who just returned from Naija on Wednesday was telling me today that pounds has spiked afresh undecided undecided
I disbelieved him cos he spit 292/3 naira black market rate at me seeing my GTB transaction of about 2 weeks back was 278.8
Anyone here to to confirm the current pounds to naira rate please?
#275.9 per pound on GT Mastercard + #420 charges. (31/08/2014)

By the way, GTBank doesn't force you to link your current account to your Debit card. When you fill the form for a card to be issued, you have an option to tick "card linking." I have both accounts but my current isn't linked to my savings.

IntroVAT: Thanks bro
Please what is appendix 8?

So are you saying I should get across to my school (via phone or email) and request for an extension to my start date before the put it on the CAS?

Do you also imply that a start date of 14th September is not feasible for me and could result in denial? Thanks
App 8: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/261462/vaf9-app81.pdf

Yes, contact them first thing on Monday and let them include the details of your latest start date on your CAS.

Yes, I implied that it is risky to apply using 14th as start date. The truth is you can't get appointment date on Monday, so assuming you get on Wednesday (3rd Sept), you'll have only 7 working days before school resumes. It is highly risky without extension for your resumption date.
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part2 by DonOms(m): 11:27pm On Aug 30, 2014
IntroVAT: Hello Everyone, I have two questions:

1. I'm expecting my CAS on monday. So I want to know the documents i'll eventually take with my printed application to ukba. Pls help me point out which is missing:

* TB certificate
* my Waec + university first year transcripts
* my passport
* my bank statement

2. Please how does the appointment booking work? I see people say the booked this day and that day. Lets say I pay for my application on monday, is that the same day i'll book an appointment? Is the appointment for submission (biometrics) or for interview or for both.

Please a prompt reply will be highly appreciated.

PS: my school begins on September 14

Thanks

Cc justwise spikesC
1) All documents you listed, Appendix 8, and any other that may be a requirement on your CAS.
2)Once you submit your application, you'll get a link to book an appointment for document submission/interview (all on same day). If you pay on Monday, you cannot get appointment for Monday. It will be from Tuesday onwards depending on availability.

Ask your school for your latest resumption date and let this reflect on your CAS. You should be able to have at least 15 working days from your appointment date till resumption (latest start date).

Ganiyat95: If i print from the date you said, there would be no reasonable transaction showed. i paid 2,026,800 on 24/06/2014, 72,000 on 26/06/2014, 1,000 and 1,500 was paid on 27/08/2014. should i still use the one i printed out? i'm really eager to know the right thing, cos i have been refused once. Thanks
It's true they don't look at transactions but the period of statement. Unfortunately, someone has been refused before because the ECO who reviewed this person didn't look at the period but the transaction.

My point is: never give them a reason to misinterpret anything.

Which date are you making your application?
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part2 by DonOms(m): 11:52pm On Aug 25, 2014
GeneralShepherd: please my latest start date is 27th october, does that mean i can apply foe visa say secind week of september without fear of rejection because of time contraints?
2nd week in October is perfect, you have well above 15 working days for visa processing. Ensure the latest start date is included in your CAS.

royal34: pls can someone address this question? how much is the visa fee?
It's determined by your mode of payment. For instance, if you use a GTB Mastercard, the exchange rate is the Mastercard rate on the day of payment.

alizenbohr: Hello house (Justwise, spikec, et al ...)

Please I would like to know anyone who has applied for an ATAS clearance & how long it took before it was done.

Could it also be fast-tracked or monitored?

Thanks.
It takes an average of 4 weeks - 6 weeks and I doubt it can be fast-tracked nor monitored.

francini: Pls what is the average response time for Uk visa at Abuja?
From personal observation, I think it's about 3 working days off peak periods; and about 7 working days peak period.
Note that some applicants may get extra delays due to some issues with their application.

paradisewoods: •             certified copies of your bachelor degree and academic transcript in the original language.

•             certified/authenticated translation (to English, Dutch German) of your bachelor degree and academic transcript (if necessary)

•             a copy of your passport or a certified copy of your birth certificate.

* Certified copies are copies with an official stamp to verify that the copies are true copies of original documents.
I don't think there is a better way to certify any document besides going to the issuer of the document. Take your original documents and photocopies and go to your school to get them certified.

As for the translated documents, there are bodies responsible for that so you have to know the one your school (and the country your school is in) uses so you can let your school send them copies of documents to be translated.

alizenbohr: Justwise,

Please while applying for the visa (just opened my account), I saw Tier 4 (General), Tier 4 (Sponsored), Tier 4 (Scholarship), Tier 4 (Child).

I'm on a scholarship by a mutinational for tution, accomodation & upkeep.

Should I select Sponsored or Scholarship ?
If the named "multinational" can sponsor you and you have a sponsor letter to that effect, apply for a Tier 4 (Sponsored) Student.

paradisewoods: I got this offer from spareroom.co.uk, I am going to Sunderland this September so I have been looking for accommodation. I got this offer and I just want someone there to help me check if the apartment is really what it is.
Hello Ola.
I have a single room available immediately.
The rent is £48.50 per week, payable in advance, and
includes the gas, electricity and internet.
There is a refundable security deposit of £100.00.
If you want to view then please TEXT me on
07984871632 and I will call you back to arrange a
suitable time and date.
If there is any more information that you need then
please just ask.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Keith.
The price is reasonable BUT it is not advisable to pay the security deposit yet. The thing is you don't know the condition of the house and he has the grace of changing his mind on the said house and offering you another. Since you're arriving the UK soon, then let him know you'll call him as soon as you get here. Just book a cheap hotel and lodge there, then you will text him that same day that you want to see the house the next day.

Still better than last month's 286

Me too am feeling the project heat
My bro, I'm good. The heat will be over soon anyway: By the end of the month. I trust you should finish yours soon too, right?

The rate's close to what it had been lately though. I think it's relatively stable now unlike those days when it spikes seriously.

xkobans: Please i need someone to confirm for me. No offence oo. I'm just being extra careful. This vaf9 form is it still in used. Someone said they don't use it anymore. Experts please confirm. God bless u richly. Amen.
As far as you are applying for Tier4 from Nigeria (like many other countries) you must fill an online application which is a replacement for the VAF9. YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUBMIT A HAND-FILLED VAF9.

The Appendix8 form, on the other hand, SHOULD be printed out and HAND-FILLED, and submitted with the Print Out of your Online Application, signed.

@xkobans Your passport data page and certificates are the most important photocopies. Basically, you SHOULD photocopy all original documents except Bank Statement, VAF9 print off and your CAS.

Who is your sponsor? I hope you have double-checked they can sponsor you.

Let it be the conversion rate at the day your Application Fee was paid.

I heard that once. I know GT issues a stand-alone dollar debit mastercard into which you can move money from your dollar dorm acct using Internet Banking. However, I'm not sire if same id applicable to sterling.

BTW, @royalsweetness, you remembered Nairaland UK Students' page today. Trust you're good.
