Most people pay a tenth of their income to church not out of love for God but because they have been led by their pastor to believe that in doing so, God will continue to protect them from any misfortune. These pastors are effectively selling an insurance policy that covers bankruptcy, sickness, death, broken marriage and a whole bunch of other misfortunes, all for a ten percent premium of ones income.
So contrary to the opinion expressed in some of the comments here, the tithes and offerings paid to these churches are not gifts in an altruistic sense, rather it is the premium paid for the insurance policy provided by God with the church/pastor as God's agent and salesman.
Viewed from this perspective, it becomes easy to see how one can feel cheated if after diligently paying their tithes and offerings, they get hit by one or more misfortune that proved difficult to recover from, and the church which they believed to be the last point of refuge refused to shelter them from the worst of their calamity.
My advice to people that pay tithe as a means of getting protection against the uncertainties of life is that they should put that money into a fixed deposit account, or look for a reputable and trusted insurance company and use that money to purchase a policy that is well tailored to the risk they fear the most.

The truth is that it is difficult to understand something when your livelihood depends on your not understanding it. That is the reason why this thread could go on for as long as you guys are willing to engage them, and they still will be no closer to understanding why christians are neither obligated nor required to pay tithe.

When you hear people give testimonies in church and make thanks giving to their pastor on account of their narrow escape from death, you get the sense that they are truly afraid of death.
If heaven is real and tangible to them, then their testimonies would have been of how they almost made it to heaven, and they would not be giving thaks for missing out on heaven.
Indeed, death is the enemy of all men, and the bible tells us that it is the last enemy that will be put under Jusus' feet. So until that time when the sting of death is no more, humans will continue to dread death for it is an enemy and not a friend that sends us to heaven on dying.

You are too right, muslims are the ones that needs enlightment on how to comform to our modern era.
They should realise that the world doesn't revolve around them, that just as they have the right and the freedom to express their views so also do people of other faith and those of no faith.
They think that it is ok to publicly ridicule the catholic cardinal belief in the trinity that Jesus is God (I also think the idea of trinity is crazy), but publicly denying Muhammad is messenger of God in a muslim majority country can can earn you a death sentence under their draconian blasphemy law.
No matter how you spin it, Islam is becoming the modern day equivalent of the medieval European crusaders.

- The take the side of a fellow Muslim over a kaffir

- The "we are under siege" mentality used to inspire the followers from the beginning

The whole drama of the danish cartoon was baffling to say the least. How can the publication of one obscure newspaper from Denmark cause muslims to kill their fellow non muslim citizens in muslim majority countries halfway across the world is something I am still trying to understand.
Granted, Muhammad is held very dear to them, but why kill people who had nothing to do with the cartoon? One would think that a truly peaceful religion would teach its members how to exercise restraint in the face of provocation.

Denouncing one does not exclude ability to denounce the other, especially when the abuse my father is going through is actually encouraging my brother to recruit more helpers.
I would denounce both as far as I am able. But if I attempt to denounce the horrible actions of my brother and while there, the crowd accuse me and my entire family of having a kidnap, rape and bombing culture and attack me even though I am trying my best to help free those girls and get my brother arrested, then I will conclude that i am not wanted there, leave them to their devices and face my father's abuser. And those people have no moral right to then accuse me of not helping to stop my brother.

My point is that the atrocities committed by bokoharam in the name of Allah and his messenger Muhammad brings more reproach to muslims and their god, yet muslims as a group tend not to denounce them. But all it takes for muslims as a group to go berserk, is a silly cartoon of muhammad from one obscure newspaper.

We love our Lord more than we love our relatives, for He gave us to them and them to us. We love our prophet because of the sacrifices he made in life just to deliver God's message of salvation to us. Whenever you engage or approve of such abuse; as the majority of christians do; think of that analogy.

Your analogy does not answer PastorKun's question because they are not the same. This is what PastorKun is asking you and all other muslims that are not slow to express outrage over a Muhammad cartoon but would stay silent no matter how egregious the atrocity committed in the name of Allah.
Imagine a scenario where one random stranger makes a comedy skit about you beloved father that paints him in a negative light (Danish cartoon and Muhammad video). And another scenario where you own brother kidnapped and raped some school age girls, and bombed people going about their business in the market place claiming that it was your beloved father that instructed him to carry out those atrocities (Boko Haram and ISIS).

Which case would you feel the need to denounce in the most vocal manner in order to protect the integrity of your fathers name. The one where a libelous comedy skit was made by a stranger who everyone knows has little knowledge about your father, or the one where somebody who answers the same name as you do claims that it was your father who instructed him to rape, kidnap and kill people?

There are two main categories of people who speak in tongues. Those with the knowledge that everybody who speak in tongues are just making it up; and those who think that they are the only ones making it up. There is also a third category that is very small, they are the ones who are deluded enough to believe that the gibberish that comes out from their lips is pure gold.
