PoliticsRe: Those Arguing 25% In FCT, See What The Constitution Says About States In Nigeria by DoTheNeedful: 5:54am On May 19, 2023
chuksoyo21:
If you you know that the president is the governor of the FCT you will not lay these claims. He governs the FCT through the appointment of a minister of the FCT.
The FCT has a special status. That's why it is mandatory for a winner of a presidential election to win 25% in the FCT.
It's obvious you didn't understand what I wrote.

I posted this in another thread!

The argument about winning 25% in FCT is the most ridiculous of all the arguments being made by the opposition. It is funny that some senior lawyers who are obviously partisan are also making the argument.

The FCT is just a federating unit like any other state in Nigeria and it's like a 37th state. For people arguing about "AND", I suggest you read Schedule III of the Nigerian constitution which nobody is talking about. It clearly use the same "AND" for the distribution of police commissioners to the 36 states AND the FCT, appointment of commissioners to the National Population Commission from each of the 36 states AND the FCT, appointment of commissioners to the RMAFC from each of the 36 states AND the FCT, appointment of commissioners to INEC from each of the 36 states AND the FCT, appointment of representatives to the FCC from each of the 36 states and the FCT, etc. These are exactly in the same spirit with having 2/3 of the 36 states and the FCT.

In all the above cases, the FCT is clearly seen as a federating unit. As a result, it does not have a special status like some people like to make it, and it should be treated as a state.

I see the court throwing out the FCT case. The best bet for the opposition is to prove that the election was rigged sufficiently enough to change the outcome of the election.

I understand your perspective. However, based on our existing laws, the judgement was well delivered. According to our laws, there is a clear difference between robbery and armed robbery. If I took your phone at gun-point or knife-point , I would be given a death penalty. If I snuck into your room to steal your phone, I might be given few months in prison.

A politician that steals billions would be given a more favourable sentence than a Kingsley that took your 5,000 using knife.

PoliticsRe: Ministerial Appointment: Disquiet In Rivers APC Over Wike, Tinubu Romance by DoTheNeedful: 9:06am On May 12, 2023
Tinubu does not owe Rivers APC a pin. Wike will nominate the minister from Rivers. Rivers APC, under the leadership of Amaechi obviously worked against Tinubu and supported Atiku. Officials of APC in Rivers even said on camera that APC's win in Rivers was fraudulent.

I agree that there was "wayo wayo" in Rivers State presidential election. However, it is not right for "members" of the party that benefitted from such to be calling the election fraudulent.

According to him, May 29th will come and go! Neither Tinubu nor Atiku would be Sworn-in but rather death would occur. But it wasn't clear who would die!

He said after few months, Peter Obi would be declared President of Nigeria.

He added that Nigeria is too big for INEC to play with.

Watch video below!

The so-called prophet is just still pained about the last election. If Tinubu dies before May 29, Shettima would be sworn in. There is no way Atiku or Obi would be sworn in. According to our laws, it is the political parties that win elections and not individuals. Tinubu's victory is APC's victory. Therefore, if he's not sworn in due to death, Shettima becomes the president.

Depriest2020:
It's impossible that Tinubu got 25%+ in 28 states of the federation & couldn't get that in the FCT.
The FCT is like a mini Nigeria where all the tribe's of the 36 states are well represented.

Even Buhari that has been losing election since 2003 before 2015 always get 25% in the FCT.
This is not necessarily true. Cosmopolitan areas all over the world usually vote differently due to many factors. The voting pattern of New York in the US is different from New Hampshire. Similarly, the voting pattern in London will definitely differ from Lancashire.

Since 1961, the Republicans have not won Washington DC (US capital), yet the Republicans have won more presidential elections than the Democrats in the same period.

Voting pattern in a city depend significantly on the demography of that city. The ethnic composition in Abuja is different from Sokoto. While many people in Abuja might prefer Obi, an average Danladi living in a village in Sokoto might find him unattractive. Also, note that Danladi in the village will also have a different political view from Shehu (who is also from Sokoto and educated) who lives in Abuja.

Charleys:
I saw a video of Tinubu's declaration for president.
There was something missing in that video. I did not see a serious candidate. I did not see someone with dreams to uplift this country.

All I saw was someone who thought he was entitled to become president of the Federal republic of Nigeria.

I love tinubu as a highness man that he is, and his way of combining politics and highness but I believe this man is high on his supplies
I have never taken tinubu serious in all that he says because I believe he is always high on something, so I take his words as words of an upcoming artist.

But let's say tinubu is serious about becoming president.

What does he have to offer this country?
We will be seeing lots of fainting and lots of passing out on the campaign trail due to drug overdose and such.

I believe his presidential campaign is borne out of sniffing too much powder. Just as any highness it's going to be a puff puff pass presidential ambition.

I will not vote for an 80 year old upcoming artist until I see seriousness on his part.

#tinubusaynotodrugs

In the words of farouk kperogi:

{He appears to revel in his own self-created alternate universe that is always lightyears away from ours. When he speaks and walks, he strikes the observer as a man in a daze, in a cripplingly drunken or narcotic stupor. He slurs his words, slacks his attention, blanks out, has awkward gaits and seems impervious to the world around him. That, for me, is the outward manifestation of an inner turbulence.}

But if peradventure he wins this presidential election then I will believe that
The office of the president of Nigeria is just a sniff away.
I don't know your aim with this post. However, smokers are human too.

I don't know if Tinubu smokes as much as Obama. Obama was a chain smoker up till his presidency. He also did weed and coca1ne. Yet, many of you would consider him as one of the best American presidents. Winston Churchill was a chain smoker too.

Back home here, former president Shagari smoked a lot. Odumegwn Ojukwu , the late Biafran leader was an avid smoker as well.

If you want to try football, Pep Guardiola, Ancelotti, Sarri are all smokers.

Smoking doesn't make you less intelligent.

Let's focus on issues.

PoliticsRe: Grv’s Only Sin, And The Hypocrisy Of The Yoruba Nation by DoTheNeedful:
Vado2:
.A son of the soil Omo-Eko, GRV has being denied of a Governorship seat, and being accused of being an omo-ale on the grounds that his mother is Ibo, among a number of other things. Yet, the fact remains that he questioned the “structure”, which is what stoked the tribal sentiments against him. Even individuals of little Yoruba descent have existed. James Faleke, a native of Kogi state, holds an office there and even uses funds from Lagos state to support his gubernatorial bids. The use of Lagos resources to fund an ambition, thats not even part of the a state southwest, and has not anytime be mentioned by any Yoruba leaders that I have seen.

They waged a campaign of slander against him, paid influencers to spread false information about him, and even included all the non-Yoruba tribes in the conflict, as they always do during any election cycle, simply because he dared to oppose the powers that be. Any candidate that’s against their structure they turn into an Ibo candidate.

Also, the horrible evil seed that this election has sown has been planted. These men are unaware that they have damaged the reputation of our country. Hahahha

And for the Yorubas who claim they are not involved in the local politics of others, just look at how they have transformed Peckham, England, into another Lagos, complete with churches, mosques, and private establishments. They even have two elected representatives in the house, and the Anglo-Saxons haven't retaliated against you or claimed you are encroaching on their territory, or you will soon claim there or don’t you think you’re disrupting another man’s local politics by getting elected into his parliament when you’re not even from there??

If you're go to Peckham, you'll believe it to be another Yoruba state. What makes you feel so uneasy around other southern clans?? Same reason why you folks portrayed Good-luck Jonathan as deserving of contempt because he came from a minority southern clan .

This isn’t even able the Ibos, but the subjugation of other southern clans. You will be able to grasp what I'm implying in the upcoming months, SS brothers.
The grouse of people against GRV is more complicated than most of you trying to make it. He is not the first politician in the SW whose mother/father is from other tribes. Governor Adeleke's mother was pure Igbo and he also speaks Igbo very fluently. Yet, people still voted for him as governor in Osun, a state that is a lot more conservative than Lagos. Governor Akeredolu's wife is pure Igbo and she has functioned well as the first lady.

I tend to see people who believed that GRV was not elected mainly because of his Igbo ancestry as tribalistic themselves, because they are selective in what they choose to see. They ignore Adeleke, Akeredolu and some prominent Yoruba people who stood by Obi's campaign.

What you should know is that if LP presented an pure Yoruba candidate, people would still have voted against that candidate. Rightly or wrongly, some Yoruba people see Peter Obi actively campaigning for a candidate in Lagos as an overreach. They believe Sanwo-olu was not performing badly too.

Another point is that GRV also has a history of making snide remarks about Yoruba people. It's all over the place. Internet never forgets. This makes some people to even doubt if he had any Yoruba heritage.

The election has come and gone, let's move on. Having seen all that has transpired from on all social media platforms. I can confidently say that people of all ethnic groups contributed to this bad atmosphere we have now. It would be insincere, tribalistic and hypocrital for any group to point fingers at another.

Amen. Developments like this gladden my mind immensely but also saddens me deeply because we see how quickly and without noise this was delivered.

One now begins to wonder what could have been if Buhari prioritised the delivery of this in his first year as Preaident over 7 years ago.

Our problems are well-known and the solutions identified yet it seems Nigerians are hellbent on frustrating and sabotaging themselves instead of doing the right and productive things asap.
The highlighted part is one of the reasons why I was surprised by this news. Since the end of the civil war, the major political actors in Nigeria, especially from the North, have been reluctant about giving more power to the federating units. There has been the push to centralize major institutions e.g power generation, police, and other things. Unfortunately, this has affected our efficiency in this country a lot.

I am happy with the signing of the bill, and I hope more power will be granted to the states. Bills such as this would also make states to compete for investments. Most investors would easily want to establish in states with steady power generation, instead of moving to Ghana.

The US has said INEC has to prove that the results of the 2023 presidential election announced were true. Says INEC did the election in the old fashion way instead of electronically transferring the election results.

According to them, one of the International Observers Dr. Gabe observed that there were vote buying, bribery and corruption. Speaking further, says despite INEC "efforts" nothing good happened, but back to the same old thing, same old efforts.

"So, what do we do in the United States? What do we do as an international attorney and as an international Law effort? What do we do to ensure that democracy can thrive, so that the promise of 1960 can come true again, hopefully......

We are asking INEC to prove the transparency in the variacity of the results announced. If the results were true, they should be able to prove it. It's absolutely not extraordinary to ask INEC to prove it. Show me the maths, we've all gone to school, show me the maths; you have got a number, show me how you got that number, prove what you did.

There could be no debate that the United investigation indicates that there were savages. The rule was savaged, the rights of the electorates were savaged.....

We also call upon the international community to join together with the Nigeria judiciary....to condemn and set aside the hastily announced results and instead proceed in solemn seriousness, this deserves".....
