I came across a thread on puerperal depression https://www.nairaland.com/1073248/postpartum-depression-what-need-know#12593372 and saw the people contribution to the post. I realised most people actually 4got that there are more that can go wrong at the time time of birth and after it and so I decided to highlight more om this. First and foremost, Puerperum is the period beginning immediately after the birth of a child and extending for about six weeks. Puerperal complications are Complications arising around the time of birth that can increase the risk to the mother and her child. Some of these complications are: Postpartum Hemorrhage: Early and Late Early – Occurs when blood loss is greater than 500 ml. in the first 24 hours after a vaginal delivery or greater than 1000 ml after a cesarean birth(Normal blood loss is about 300 - 500 ml.) Late– Hemorrhage that occurs after the first 24 hours. Main Causes of Early Hemorrhage are: Uterine Atony, Lacerations, Retained Placental Fragments, Inversion of the Uterus, Placenta Accreta. PUERPERAL INFECTIONS: Are infection of the genital tract, usually of the endometrium associated with parturition and generally encompasses the time from delivery to 6 weeks postpartum. Can occur after abortion or delivery. MASTITIS: A distinction needs to be made between true mastitis and localized inflammation of the breasts resulting from a blocked milk duct. A blocked milk duct responds readily to breast massage. In Mastitis there is a bacteria caused infection that needs vigorous intervention. Almost always unilateral and develops well after the flow of milk is established. PUERPEAL CYSTITIS: Diuresis is a normal physiological function during the immediate postpartal period. The body uses this mechanism to begin to eliminate the extra fluid volume that has accumulated during pregnancy. Stretching or trauma to the base of the bladder occurs to some degree in any vaginal delivery, the resulting edema of the trigone is great enough to obstruct the urethra and to cause acute retention. Anesthesia can inhibit normal neural control of the bladder and lead to overdistention and decrease bladder sensitivity. So, Residual urine and Bladder trauma can lead to CYSTITIS. THROMBOEMBOLC DISEASE: Superficial thrombophlebitis is limited to the superficial saphenous veins, whereas deep thrombophlebitis generally involves most of deep venous system. PUERPERAL PSYCHIATRIC DISORDER: The psychological and physical stresses relating to new obligations of motherhood may precipitate an emotional crisis. The principle emotional disturbances complicating the postpartum period are AFFECTIVE/MOOD DISORDERS (BIPOLAR DISORDERS) and SCHIZOPHRENIA/POSTPARTUM PSYCHOSIS. Please, if there are places I made mistakes feel free to correct me cos no one is above mistakes. |
Guys I just came across this piece on Abortion http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/journals/2415698.html and was curious to know how prevalent it is in Nigeria. Remember the country has a problem with records cos they are not kept. Friends working back home say the incidence in on the increase and it tends mostly to lean towards criminal abortion. Please feel free to give us your take on the matter. Also post your source and you could tell us how it is in the country u currently live in. |

I don't know who the biggest fool will be here. The governor being probed, the governor spear-heading the probe, or the silly public and/or people in NL that should wise up to this political move of Orji Kalu and his protégé. I mean, its not a secret that Orji didn´t do anything 4 Abia during his term. Neither is it hidden that this present one is just blowing smoke, trying to leave crumbs 4 the public cos people r suffering and desperate 4 change. What annoys one the most is that the public is so hit with suffering that they actually belive him cos they r looking 4 a messiah. Well that messiah is definitely not the present governor of Abia cos he has not done a single thing in his state (pls go and see Fashiola´s lagos state). |
so what if she smokes weed.. |
debrief08: Slimyem, I consult with some NGOs, I will meet with some women who share the same veiws and see if we can work with some Doctors to breakdown the language and sponsor publication and awareness in the 3 major languages.Yes what u want to do is a positive step. But I think its prevalence should be less that the 25% u wrote about. All thru my experience I only came across postpartum Depression twice in my life; once in a lady who had elective abortion and anoda time in a woman who had a still birth. |

Ikengawo: he was on the site and meeting with victims well before this.Yes u r right but he never called international community until he was personally affected. |
I am curious if our dear president just realized how grevious the situation is cos he is now personally affected. |
PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, on Tuesday, gave an account of how his country home was on Monday night submerged in flood that is now ravaging parts of the country. He was, however, hopeful that with the assistance of the international community, the challenges posed by the effects of the flood would soon be overcome. Jonathan disclosed this while launching Nigeria's Saving One Million Lives Initiative (2012-20-15) at the Banquet Hall of the State House. He noted that flood overran his country home in Otuoke, Bayelsa State, between Monday night and Tuesday morning, less than 24 hours after he visited the area and other parts of the country affected by the floods. According to him, "Nigeria is so devastated by the flood. Sometimes when you watch it on television, you do not appreciate what we are going through.. "On Sunday, I was in my village after touring my state. I left my village on Sunday morning and as of that time, water was about entering my compound. This morning, the information is that all my windows are under water. So, you can see what people are passing through at this period. "But with the assistance development partners will give us and people who are in the humanitarian sector, we will soon get over it," he said. The president's house in Otuoke had been under renovation since it was bombed by Niger Delta militants at the height of militancy in the region. Speaking on the the Nigeria's Saving One Million Lives Initiative (2012-20-15), the president noted that its launch was special in the global effort to protect the rights of women and children, noting that Nigeria had committed about $601 million for the next four years for procurement of additional reproductive health commodities. link: http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/49328-my-country-home-overrun-by-flood-jonathan-cries-out |
The Armageddon virus: Why experts fear a disease that leaps from animals to humans could devastate mankind in the next five years THE symptoms appear suddenly with a headache, high fever, joint pain, stomach pain and vomiting. As the illness progresses, patients can develop large areas of bruising and uncontrolled bleeding. In at least 30 per cent of cases, Crimean-Congo Viral Hemorrhagic Fever is fatal. And so it proved this month when a 38-year-old garage owner from Glasgow, who had been to his brother’s wedding in Afghanistan, became the UK’s first confirmed victim of the tick-borne viral illness when he died at the high-security infectious disease unit at London’s Royal Free Hospital. It is a disease widespread in domestic and wild animals in Africa and Asia — and one that has jumped the species barrier to infect humans with deadly effect. But the unnamed man’s death was not the only time recently a foreign virus had struck in this country for the first time. Last month, a 49-year-old man entered London’s St Thomas’ hospital with a raging fever, severe cough and desperate difficulty in breathing. He bore all the hallmarks of the deadly Sars virus that killed nearly 1,000 people in 2003 — but blood tests quickly showed that this terrifyingly virulent infection was not Sars. Nor was it any other virus yet known to medical science. Worse still, the gasping, sweating patient was rapidly succumbing to kidney failure, a potentially lethal complication that had never before been seen in such a case. As medical staff quarantined their critically-ill patient, fearful questions began to mount. The stricken man had recently come from Qatar in the Middle East. What on earth had he picked up there? Had he already infected others with it? Using the latest high-tech gene-scanning technique, scientists at the Health Protection Agency started to piece together clues from tissue samples taken from the Qatari patient, who was now hooked up to a life-support machine. The results were extraordinary. Yes, the virus is from the same family as Sars. But its make-up is completely new. It has come not from humans, but from animals. Its closest known relatives have been found in Asiatic bats. The investigators also discovered that the virus has already killed someone. Searches of global medical databases revealed the same mysterious virus lurking in samples taken from a 60-year-old man who had died in Saudi Arabia in july... legislative practice, the House of Representatives has concluded plans to hold a public hearing on its plan to whittle down the powers of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor. Aside whittling down the CBN governor’s powers, the House, through “a bill for an Act to amend the CBN Act 2007 Act to appoint a person other than the governor as the chairman of the board of the bank, exclude deputy governors and directors as members of the board and approval of the annual budget of the bank and for related matters,” also planned to make the apex bank’s budget passed through the National Assembly. The CBN was, by the virtue of the Act establishing it, insulated from the powers of appropriation and control of public funds domiciled in the lawmakers, leaving room for arbitrary expenditure without recourse to the National Assembly. The House had, in May, passed for the second reading the said bill seeking to cut the CBN to size. To this end, a public hearing had been slated for October 22 by House joint committees on Banking and Currency and Justice, aimed at gauging public opinion on the move to amend the CBN Act. The bill, if finally passed, would also exclude deputy governors and directors as members of the board. Ahead of the hearing date, the Nigerian Tribune learnt that the committee had commenced move to reach out to all the stakeholders in the industry for their inputs. |

modele2: I love my husband and i am sure he loves me too. I try my best to be a dutiful loving wife. I believe i perform all the traditional wifey roles well. We are good friends, we talk about everything and enjoy a warm relationship.look at u hitting ur head on d wall just cos of a simple statement. Why did u not tell him back that u own him? Or is he not ur husband? |
this na NECO question |
desh na wah! I won't want to worsen ur pain but the facts are simple. U really are the only one that can do something about it, its begins and remains ur decision and anyone u take, would be urs to make. O boi luv is pain but still a worthwhile thing to experience. On one part, she has been unfair to u so u don't owe her a thing. Make sure u tell her that. On the other part, if u still luv her, regardless of all she put u thru then u got to really consider if u can still be happy with her, knowing how she deceived u in the past or without her (its urs 2 decide). If u can't live without her, then by all means hear her out but don't let her deceive u this time. This time, don't ever think with ur heart but think logicaly cos she has already misused ur trust b4. Luv is pain Desh. I know u'd make the right decision. |
lol, but she is the Chief justice of the federation. She should just renegade that stupid law and make it null and void. |
Do you carry a picture of your partner or spouse? Back in the day.....some people used to carry color photo in the wallet or in their book bag. With the rise of technological gadgets...people have photos of their love ones on their phone or computer. A friend of mine called me and told me that she was using her husband's phone and realized there is NO PICTURE of her on his phone. I asked her do she have any photos of him on her phone...she responded yes. The reason I asked the question was to see if she isn't being hypocritical. She went on and on about how upset she felt and betrayed. I might be missing the point...but I don't see why she should be upset about her husband not having a photo on his phone. I mean I wouldn't see an issue with someone having picture of their loved ones...but is it important? Personally...I wouldn't care if my husband doesn't have a photo of me on his phone because it doesn't change the price of garri. Your thoughts?
abeg, my dad neva carried my mums pix and they have been married for more than 35 yrs |
Man,are you serious? 20 men? @op...In my opinion, you are too cheap to have slept with over 15 men in just 4 years and I won‘t be suprised if you eventually sleep with 7 or 8 more before marriage. I will advise you to avoid more casual se.x or else you will be counting in tripple figure at age 40.
Oh ok! What about u, how many women have u slept with. U nigerian men need to stop this double standard. look at the kettle calling the pot black, abeg! Yes she may not be a saint but as long as she has her standards and its not money inclined or she having leaky cunt and she is not cheap. |
