ayobase: It is high time we stopped this....many threads have been opened for this discourse.
.
The truth has been there right from onset.
.
Awolowo or not, blaming anyone for what happened years ago solves nothing in this fourth republic!
.
Its the way forward that matters now!
I agree too but putting it under the rug would not help too rather undertanding and accepting the truth and then moving on from there is what we advocate.
Politics › Re: Achebe Wrote Out Of Ignorance - Gowon by drnoel: 12:46pm On Oct 28, 2012
Gowon hits Achebe on civil war, says: He wrote out of ignorance
http://www.osundefender.org/?p=50284

Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Nigeria’s Ex-president.
War time Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has criticized renowned author, Professor Chinua Achebe, over his new book on the Nigerian civil war, saying he{Achebe }does not know the issue he was writing about.
Gowon said he was ready to face the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague on the matter if necessary.

“What role did Achebe play in the secessionist plans? Achebe must have been outside the country during the war and probably did not know what happened during the period otherwise he would not have written on what he was not sure of “, he remarked.

The erstwhile Nigerian leader, who was answering questions from journalists courtesy, visit to Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu at the Presidential Lodge, Minna, Niger state, yesterday, said Achebe must have been talking out of ignorance, adding that he and the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo had no regrets over their roles in the civil war, pointing out that if there was no secession, there would not have been civil war.

“In fact , if there was no secession by the south eastern part of the country, there would have been no civil war because right from the beginning of the crises, the war would have been averted if not for the secession . It was something I believed we could have stopped,” he stressed.

Gowon also debunked the claim by the author that his administration embarked on the mass killing of Igbo, adding that the federal troops did not also use hunger as a weapon to dislodge the dissidents.

“It was the Igbo that objected to the creation of corridor for movements of medical aid and food supplies to the civilian population at the period; on this, I am ready to face the International Criminal Court of Justice at the Hague for prosecution over the role played by me during the war and, fortunately, some Nigerians are still alive to bear witness to the roles played by both the leadership of the secessionist group and the then Federal Military Government under my leadership, “the war-time leader stated.

He also recalled that during the war, a ship named “Josina” and owned by the secessionist group, which they claimed was carrying agricultural implements, was captured by federal troops and it was subjected to a thorough search and the cargo turned out to be a collection of arms and ammunition.

Gowon, who was in Minna for a 2-day prayer organized by Nigeria Prays, a group he leads, said that the massive deaths recorded by the Igbo during the civil war was caused by their own propaganda machine which claimed that the northern invaders were coming to their camps and that caused panic and pandemonium among their people because some people were trying to move from one location to the other out of fear of imaginary attacks by the so called northern invaders and without food.

^^^^^^So much for Igbo propaganda and fairy tales. The same crap that goes on and on leading this folks to spew lies about the civil war and all that is Nigeria and Nigerians. Now its become clear that there leaders starved them out of pride and also chased them up and down out of propaganda.
Look as long as u where no there and there are no valid proof to support what people say. U can't say something like that..
Politics › Achebe’s Lies Exposed: How Ojukwu Starved Igbo Children - Biafra’s PR Rep by drnoel(op): 12:43pm On Oct 28, 2012
FRESH revelations have emerged on the role of the late Biafran warlord, Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu, in the starvation and consequent death of many Igbo civilians during the Nigerian Civil War.

The late warlord was said to have deliberately caused the starvation of his kinsmen to advance his ambition of war concessions, denigrate the Nigerian government and the West as well as drum up international support for his secession bid.

In a letter written by the Public Relations representative of Biafra in the United States, Robert S. Goldstein, and published in the defunct Morning Post of 1968, to convey his intention of resignation as a representative of the fledgling breakaway republic in the U.S., the late Biafran leader was accused of being the mastermind behind the misfortune that befell his people.

Goldstein’s resignation letter seems to have faulted portions in Professor Chinua Achebe’s memoir, There was a Country: A Personal History of Biafra, in which the writer blamed the starvation of Igbo civilians on the Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who was the former Federal Commissioner of Finance and Vice-President of the Federal Executive Council during General Yakubu Gowon’s military administration.

“It is inconceivable to me that you would stop the feeding of thousands of your countrymen (under auspices of world organisations such as the International Red Cross, World Council of Churches and many more) via a land corridor which is the only practical way to bring in food to help at this time.

“It is inconceivable to me that men of good faith would try to twist world opinion in such a manner as to deceive people into believing that the starvation and hunger that is consuming ‘Biafra’ is a plot of Britain, Nigeria and others to commit genocide.

Aussie: Just got a tweet that the governor of Taraba State involved in a plane crash on Thursday has been flown to Germany for medical treatment just as many Nairalanders speculated. When will our medicare be up-graded without having to leave our shores for medical attention?

http://allafrica.com/stories/201210270076.html
On the contrary our medical doctors can do wonders, if u worked in Nigeria you would know for sure. Its our leaders who don't trust our system cos of their irresponsible behaviour towards it. Isn't it accident wounds that he sustained. What else do they want to check that couldn't be done in national hospital. Don't we have MSCT and MRI there in Abuja. These equipments are all there.

dare2think: The only person wallowing in ignorance is you and your 1950's thinking!

In this day and age, how can one be worried of the gender of a health professional? are you serious!

Shouldn't the health and ability of the person come first?

So because you may have heard of funny stories about certain doctors you limit the scope of competency based on gender!

Why not go live in saudi arabia?

Perhaps, when next a woman is going to open a bank account, the bank manager, cashiers and even the gate man must be women too!
lol, u obviously mistook my meaning for one of ur own and since u have done so there is no need telling u anything else and so I would allow u wallow in ur ignorance. Bros, health is wealth and that is what is impt 2 people in my profession.

drnairalov: U take ur gf (not a parole) on a date, she dances with anoda guy leavn u while u watch, also had d stupid guts to take a guy that was wooing her @d dinner to my car, both sat @ d drivers seat (sharing d seat)
Now I don't have any problem with that but b4 she would take him to ur car and sit on his lap the dance must have been,....em something a normal guy won't want to see....I mean u sat there and took all that humiliation and u have the guts to come and post it here so u can spoil our night.
drnairalov: n d guy tries to kiss her..if not 4 ma friend that entered nd d act stopped..U confront d foolish gurl nd all she can say is she shud be able 2 dance with anoda guy even though i brought her 2 d dinna I'm being jealous..nd i shud v told d guy 2 leave d car when i sighted him)
No way, if she is ur gf, she would be responsive to ur feelings and if u didnt want her to dance with anyone she would not unless u are still shiking her. I do believe this strongly
drnairalov: (last thin i wud do..argue with a guy on top woman.I see dis as disrespect ..Issue is m i being jealous or is it a normal thing 4 gurls to feel free in occasions like dat
Did u not slap her for making that statement. I mean am not one to hit a lady but that does not include whores. Cos if she where a lady she would have respected herself and the guy that brought her to the event. What she did is not done. She actually took the guy to ur car and sat there on his lap. Guy are u well at all, you should have thrown her out of ur car and ur life. That girl rubbished u..

MOBBDEEP: My brother, they should care ooo.
A measure of pride is essential for a normal human being & whither is thy pride without knowledge & no shame for thine aknowledgia?
May be I personally do take an exceptional joy & pride in knowledge.
I remembered vividly an encounter I had with a notable female personality (a striking beauty & a lawyer). She introduced herself & capped it all that she's from the home of River Zambezi.
I replied she must be from Zambia.
She nodded in a 'hell, no way!' manner.
I blurted out Malawi.
She nodded in disagreement.
I again, in madcow persistence, replied Rhodesia.
She scowled!
Then I said Republic of Congo. She started shaking head.
I then in my hapless down-to-earth resignation with added shame, surrendered saying 'your humbled & shamed servant knowest not'.

Nna!!!, I was shamed for real that day. I felt I let down myself, my family & my country.
I had poor sleep.
Why?, because I felt as an average human being who is defined by knowledge, I failed. May be I did over-react but there are some things we should know & if we don't know, we should not take pride in ignorance for not knowing.

NB : Trust me, as soon as they left, I grabbed my Encarta. I discovered that I even try small because the said river passes through 4 countries before emptying its content into the Atlantic Ocean.
Men I sabi say geography is not my strongest so once in those kind of situation I don't like guessing so as not 2 make a fool of myself. I say plainly, pls could u tell me what country that is? Or pls where is that on the map?

Girl: so tell me where are you from
Me: why don't you take a guess
Girl: emmmm....I heard someone say that you were from Nigeria.

After a few seconds pause,

Girl: Where is Nigeria? Is it in Brazil?
Me: (with a shocked look on my face) nope! It is far away from Brazil. It is in another continent.
Girl: oh ok. Then it should be in South Africa. Am I right?
Me: (shocked beyond comprehension) nope! South Africa is not a continent, it is a country.
Girl: really? Ok where is Nigeria then.
Me: it is in Africa. Africa is the continent.
Girl: (using laugh to cover up her ignorance) I didn't know that. Did you learn English here?
Me: nope. We speak English in my country.
Girl: really? I didn't know they spoke English in Africa.
Me: a lot of countries in Africa do.
Girl: the last time I did anything about geography was in 5th grade and I have forgotten everything about it.
Me: yeah. You American need to travel out to other places.
Girl: yes but I guess that what our poor educational system does to us. They don't teach anything I schools these days. All we wanna do is do drugs and party.

Supervisor: Well u come 4rm there right,....isn't it a country?
Me: No, Africa is a continent and I am Nigerian.

Supervisor: He continues "How re the people, environment. Do they have fully developed instituitions, buildings". He then tries to make a joke " Or so u guys have to work and study on trees"
Me: Yes, we have internet and we use wooden laptops carved out of trees. We also study on d branches of large Iroko trees and jump 4rm branches to branches when we need to move 4rm one room to the next. Just as u people do here in ur country.
He didnt speak to me again when he realised he had made a fool of himself.

Or

Anoda American that asked an acquintance of mine who happens to come frome Turkey if there was still war happening between the Turkey-Chinese boarder. I told the acquintance but Turkey and China don't share a boarder and she said "well maybe they do in the geography they teach in the US"

I noticed its usually d 'boys' not 'men' dat usually calls you 24/7. Girls beware of such guys. I'm serious! angry
sorry don't agree with highlighted text. It has nothing to do with being matured or not, or the age of the man in question. Different men will explain it in different ways but the point there ladies should not 4get is this. If a man is in2 u, he will call, no matter how busy he is. He may not call u as often as u may want but he will defoinitely call.
Look, the fact that a man calls u everyday doesn't mean he is immature. OMG, how can u be that shallow. Or would u want us here to believe that cos u think like this, then u must be a child. No we won't be that shallow too, its just ur opinion, or maybe u really don't know better so let men here educate u.
Most men place priorities on people they call. Most men ask themselves, if I call her now what would come out of it. Or is it just to talk with her, abeg! Let me call my busines partner or abeg let me call Lady B (cos I don't have to talk long to get in btw her legs), thats how most men think.
