Meanwhile, all those who support the snake-friend-tradition should cover their heads in shame - that's if they profess any form of Christianity.

AWKA —  MEMBERS of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, and Umuoji community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State are on each other’s throat, following the killing of a snake in the community by the Overseer of the Mercy Throne Assembly, Umuoji, Rev Jude Chubueze.

To the community, Chibueze had committed a sacrilege, adding that the killing of snake in the area is a taboo.

The matter is already before the Anambra State Police command which is trying to mediate between the two parties to avoid a breakdown of law and order.

Members of PFN under the aegis of Umuoji Gospel Ministries Fellowship led by Pastor Celestine Ekpunobi, yesterday, described the tradition that forbids the killing of snake as barbaric, adding that such law should only concern the pagans.

Already, the church where the overseer is the pastor had been sealed with palm fronts by the people of the community.

Narrating his version of the incident, Rev Chibueze said a snake stormed his house at night when members of his family were already sleeping. He said the snake was lying where his children were sleeping and when the children started shouting, he ran out with his wife to see what was happening.

He said: “When I got to their room, I saw a big snake lying with them and I had to kill it and threw it into the nearby bush. The following day, some community members marched to my house and accused me of killing their god. They beat me up mercilessly.

“They wrote a list of items amounting to N54,890 which they said I should buy to appease their god.  Being a Christian, I told them that it is against my faith and more over, I killed a snake and not a human being.”

However, Chief Paul Edekobi, one of the community leaders said instead of the pastor doing what he earlier agreed to do with the community by providing the items, he dragged them to Ogidi Police Station where six of the community leaders were arrested.

According to him, what he did was capable of wiping out his entire family if sacrifices were not made to appease the gods.

“We do not want to destroy his property and that is why we used the palm fronts to tie round the church to stop him from worshipping there for now,” Edekobi said.

But the pastor said: “What they are talking about is not tradition; they see the killing of a snake as a taboo in their world of idol worshipping and not same in Christian faith

“If they do not desist from this act, our next port of call will be the court for the enforcement of our fundamental human rights.”

Can you imagine this scenario? Yes it is real -life!

When you find one who is, she is materialistic and myopic. When you find one who has the initial three and lacks the next two, she isn't a Christian, or isn't a practicing christian. When you get one who is averagely tall, fair, intelligent and a good christian devoid of any form of immorality, she isn't a Roman Catholic like I am.

And she often is unwilling to leave her church or become Catholic - as I wouldn't want to convert a lady because of marriage. If you love me & would marry me, then you must from now let your God be my God and my people your people!

I'm watching a documentary of Nigeria's Super Eagles 1994 matches both at the World Cup and the Nations Cup. Somehow, I feel the top dogs (top hierarchy) in the Nigerian sports media industry who have seen what I now see haven't done posterity a good deal by not commenting on this thread before now.

There are no excuses, everyone who is a Nigerian and uses Google.com would have come across nairaland.com at one point in time or the other.

Those boys were horribly envious of Yekini although Yekini seemed to have had his own attitudinal problems too as he did not gel with his new teammates after the World Cup when he moved to Olympiacos of Greece from Victoria Setubal of Portugal (where he was Portugal's season top scorer with 34goals in 32matches). Note that Yekini was the reigning African player of the period.

Even Finidi did NOT rejoice with Yekini who he passed to for the goal. It looked like though they 'beefed' him (meaning 'conspired against' in Nigerian parlance), they had national pride to protect too.

So, when they were desperately looking to score, they fed him - especially as he was the pointman - and the only seemingly irreplaceable in the 94 team, at least to Westerhoff. There was competition for every other shirt. Only Richard Owubokiri gave him some competition for a while in that period.

Amokachi passed to Finidi who laid it across goal and Yekini tapped it in just before Amunike who was on Yekini's left but neither of the trio joined Rasheed in the net for the celebrations! I've seen many players score goals and their teammates congratulate them in the net where they choose to do their celebrations. But not so for Yekini who scored our first World Cup goal and the man who holds the National goalscoring record.

The rest is history. None of the members of that bunch ever succeeded in the national colours vis-a-vis winning a major trophy outside of Yekini. The best they got were silvers and 'golden-bronzes.' Good for them!

To see a little girl travel alone, to and fro, for 2 straight days-since she was an outpatient&we really have a deluge of renal cases anyway- was particularly worrisome.

So indeed, I'm happy for the girl&for the people of Kwara. Special thumbs up to General Latinwo too but one has this feeling of 'why give the people the belief that you've attained Olympian&unprecedented heights when it is actually considered rather belated in the league of medical professionals?' It would have been better to indicate that you are happy to be able to offer services that sister institutions have helped with in the past... Same goes for Plastic Surgery. We have a very functional plastic surgery department here too and it has been so for a long time.

I have considered it important to inquire as to what fellow nairalanders think of this very important issue. Many people get pregnant unnecessarily this days because they got on the wrong side of sex. Consequently, it has become important to ask for you nairalanders: When is a lady's 'safe period"

N.B:I'm not asking theory or what is inside health texts. I am asking for real, time-tested physically proven "safe period" for women.

@Poster: Be careful! Most nairalanders are easy-go-freely people with little regard for God or spirituality. So don't be deceived to think that the preponderance of opinion is that you should jettison's the Pastor's advice. Be careful indeed.

Tell your friend to go back to the pastor and seek an amicable way of sorting the family rift that is in the offing. I'm sure the God he serves - that's if the Pastor is genuine - would show a way out. However, don't mislead your friend by the many people who are quoting medical facts without being doctors.

Hmm!Where were they when your friend went through the harrowing period before giving birth? Where were they all when you went seeking the pastor in the first place? A word, they say, is enough for the wise. It is not impossible that one's father or mother may be concocting against one. Our soceity abounds with all of such.
