Christianity EtcRe: Can Prayers Change Nigeria? by dudubobo1: 11:43am On Sep 02, 2008
Tasma:
I'm certainly not advocating that people shouldn't pray at all. I'm sure prayer has it's soothing and spiritual role in the lives of many people. What I'm saying is that as far national growth is concerned prayer shouldn't be the first port of call. Maybe we should concentrate on fixing the physical problems like light, water, shelter etc first and worry about spiritual matters later.
Thanks for the clarification.

However, I disagree with concentrating on the physical first. We need to concentrate on the spiritual and ensure that we are allowing the spiritual to be manifest in our daily lives. We have to change from inside out if we are to maintain the change
Christianity EtcRe: Nairaland Christian E-Fellowship by dudubobo1: 9:33am On Sep 02, 2008
In John 13: 3 - 15
Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;
It is interesting that at this point Jesus knew He had all power and everything and everyone was subject to Him. However, unlike us, Jesus did not go around flexing his muscles and trying to let everyone see how much power he has. What he did at the point was to serve!!! It is really peculiar that Jesus, at the point of having ALL power decided to do what the basest of servants would be expected to do - He served his disciples by washing their feet.

How do we act when we feel that we have authority over people? Do we think that we have authority or power in order to oppress people? What do we do with the power that God allows us to have? What do we do with the money that God allows us to have? Do we see the gift of God as something with which to oppress our fellow human beings?

I think it's time to start seeing the purpose of what God gives to us at every point.

Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you

God bless

If I were an indigene of that land then I wouldn't move at all. It is not exactly like there are any particular benefits of being a Nigerian and opposed to a Cameroonian. I would simply change passports if necessary and stay in my father's land. After all we are all Africans. People seem to forget that the border lines that differentiate each country from the next are man man and not God made.
There are benefits associated with citizenship

Nothing wrong with dating a xtian. Dating a male/female leader at church may be a diifficult task but not a hypocrite, christian. If you toast them the right way, they shall shag you like every other man/woman.

I know many youths who attend churches to meet their sexual partners. (Note I didn't say marriage but sexual partners) If its a woman, and you are able to fool her with her xtianity you will be surprised at the things she'D do. Anyways sha, enough said and do not be fooled by church going men/women who label themselve hypocrites christians.
I need to add that I know many young people who go to church to have real fellowship with christians and to be edified

So how about if i don't pray and just do things that will aid my development? Obviously my praying doesn't stop me from acting in criminal ways so why bother?
You dont always need to pray to see results. The bible makes it clear that whatever a man is in the habit of sowing is what he'll be in the habit of reaping. If you do the right things for development, you'll reap development.

The fact that your praying doesn't stop you doing the right things is not to say that the person who wants to pray the right way and do the right things should not pray. What exactly is your point? Some people go to school and fail, does that mean no one should go to school?

It is interesting to note that Nigerians in diaspora are doing more for Nigeria that Nigerian officials at home. While Nigerian politicians are busy shipping their stolen funds abroad, Nigerians in diaspora are busy injecting more funds into Nigeria from abroad.

Who loves Nigeria more? huh

Christianity EtcRe: Is It True: Wearing Trouser/Pants Is Condemned In The Bible? by dudubobo1: 11:00am On Sep 01, 2008
Deut 22
5: A woman must not wear men's clothing, nor a man wear women's clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this.
22 If a man is found sleeping with another man's wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die. You must purge the evil from Israel.
23 If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her,
24 you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the girl because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man's wife. You must purge the evil from among you.
If we are to take any part of the Law, we should not leave out the other parts.

My opinion and belief is that this relates to clothing that are for men ie the ones that belong to men. Women's trousers are designed for women and are not worn by men. . . just my thought.

Besides, in those days men did not wear trousers so this law could not have been specifically referring to trousers

Sorry, their was an erroy while posting earlier. Those who claim prayers to be the answer should stop brushing their teeth and pray for heavenly angels to come down and do it instead. Sound's stupid?
this is a rather silly way of looking at things.

Prayers work!!!

The Bible also makes a lot of things clear about prayers which is why sometimes, we think that prayers dont work or that our prayers are not being answered.
If I pray for God to heal me and I keep cutting myself with blades, how is that going to work? That's like the devil tempting God.

Nigerians are praying with their lips but it seems our hearts are far from God; this is why it looks like prayers dont work in Nigeria. The Nigerian man who prays and sweats in church on sunday is in the office collecting egunje the next day. The Nigerian who prays like heaven is falling on Sunday in Church will be breaking traffic rules on his way home from church. The Nigerian who prays very hard on sunday will be seen oppressing his neighbours throughout the week.

If I pray from now till kingdon come for something and I keep doing things that will prevent that thing to come, why should I expect to recieve it?

Please let's reason a little

This is getting silly. Just respond to the post, okay? I'm not interested in a dispute over whether I should give donations to bus preachers if I felt like it.
yes. It's getting silly.
Why should you assume that preaching on a bus means that the person needs your money? So if I stand up to preach on a bus, that means I want people to give me money? I met a wealthy man who preaches on buses some years ago. So you think he needs your money is the reason he's on the bus preaching.

Christianity EtcRe: Preaching In The Bus by dudubobo1: 3:07pm On Aug 29, 2008
Mad_Max:
I sort of assumed someone wouldn't ask for donations if it wasn't needed. And he's not holding a gun to my head, so I'm under no compulsion to accede to his request and give. If I do so, it's willingly, because the preacher's impressed me with his sincerity, and isn't shoving stuff down people's throats. A love for God is very hard to fake. What's your point?
What's your own point? why do you assume that you have to give someone money just because he preaches? Do you think that people preach because they need money?

No need for the abuses and insults. It's one thing about us as Nigerians that irks me. We should not start insulting people for not agreeing with our opinions
