Politics / Re: Igbo Presidency 2015 Or 2019 : A Lesson In Zero Strategy by DuduNegro: 6:28am On Oct 15, 2013
SegzyJoe: If the approach, methodology, perspective and strategy of Igbo community on nairaland is a true representative of Ndigbo larger strategy to clinch the Nigerian presidency, I dare say that Aso Villa will forever remain an elusive dream for the them..

While it is not contestable that Igbos have mastered the art of business strategy (they can grow buz from zero level to an enviable height), the same cannot be said of mastering political strategy, especially within Nigerian context.

For instance, it is not a wise political strategy to have a sizable portion of your population and businesses in SW, and yet display so much hatred for Yorubas, it is not.

It is not a grand strategy to approach politics from emotional point of view (jealousy and hatred for perceived enemy), rulership is meant for men of reason, not those dominated by emotion (you can ask Nicolo Machiavelli or Aristotle).

It is a bear parlour strategy to think Nigerian presidency can be achieved through blackmail and noise making rather than a grand strategy of compromise and bridge building.

It is not strategy to make foes out of friends while gunning for Aso villa. Is it really possible for Igbos to clinch the presidency without the support of South West?

If an opinion poll is conducted in the North today on whether an average Northerner will want an Igbo presidency, the answer could be better imagined, yet I know that many Yoruba will still opt for Igbo presidency. If an average Hausa man will not even imagine an Igbo presidency, and the Yorubas are being demonize by Igbo, on whose strength are they then hoping to clinch the presidency?

I am quite aware, Igbos are very proud people with innate desire to lead others, unfortunately Yorubas are not push over in every regard, but resulting to unhealthy rivalry is the least way to respond to our differences.

The lack of political strategy in their SE quest to have a shot at the presidency explained the lack of a meaningful political party in the SE today which will serve as rallying point for their presidential aspiration. LITTLE WONDER IGBO HAS NOTHING TO TRADE WITH OR BRING TO THE TABLE IN THE BID TO OCUPPY ASO VILLA. COULD THIS BE THE REASON WHY NDIGBO ARE PUSHING FOR GEJ (AN AZIKWE IN DISGUISE?). POWER IS NOT GIVEN, IT IS TAKEN, OVERTLY OR COVERTLY.

Igbo need a re-strategizing, a re- order of priorities, compromise, consensus, and bridge building. Igbo should buried their pride, SW represent their best and sure path to the presidency. For almost 30yrs, the Northern ruling elites did not allow an Igbo man to reach major-general rank in the army with the exception of Ike Nwachukwu (who has a northern blood and grew up in KD) until OBJ changed the tide, would the current CAS have been in position to be appointed if not for the restructuring OBJ carried out in the army, would there have been a SS president today, if not for OBJ, why are we behaving as if we have not been around for a while in this country.

Yorubas sacrificed their sons blood to get the presidency, while Igbos are traveling home en mass from Lagos, the jokes those days (1993 - 1998) were they are going for Yam festival, even the 7 SE Govs were opposed to Abiola presidency publicly, Chukwumerije even said Abiola ran away from battle to mock the Yorubas, but after the struggle, while still in the opposition, two Yoruba candidates were nominated as the presidential candidates of the two major political parties of the time, either way, a yoruba must emerge, while can't Ndigbo be strategic for once in their quest for the presidency instead of thinking it is Yorubas that is their enemy. My question is why do the Igbos always think Yoruba is their enemy, instead of the other people that hated them with passion?

An Nidgbo son wrote an article in the news paper last week about lack of strategy in Igbos quest for the presidency, I hope somebody can learn from this.

Sincerely, I didnt write the above to degrade or insult Ndigbo community but I was just disappointed in the way some people are portraying Yoruba as the enemy of Igbo presidency, we can have our differences, but we still need ourselves. The North ruled for many years because of our rivalry. Awolowo worked with Zik even though they have their differences. The hatred being peddled by this generation will definitely widen the divide, and it is not good for the two sides.

Please, tell these people the truth and stop lying to them. This is why they are quick to believe Yoruba backstab them. Yorubas dont vote individually, we vote on collective leadership. Therefore when Ibos hear talk like this they are led to believe there exist some Yoruba leaders who will sway favor to their side and bring a population support to back an Ibo candidacy. The fact is there is no such leader in Yorubaland who will back Ibo against a Yoruba candidature.

Given the aftermath of Lagos deportation, Yoruba leaders listened to Ibo political leaders - those who move and dictate Ibo national agenda - refer to a Yorubaland as a no man's land............and went so far to refer to our political legacy as "ewedu and amala" politics.

Any Ibo listening to your statement and believing it to be reliable is deceiving himself. There is no future nor hope for Ibo in Yorubaland. 2015 is my witness!

tomakint: I wish him good health as he battles for survival!
@Afam4eva, I think you are totally wrong on your observations, in the case on Nwabueze, he is an octogenarian that needs to take care of his ill-health so the issue of he is a member in a committee where a junior to him is the chairman is not convincing enough! We are talking about health issues here common!

Afam has no sense. When non-Ibo is appointed as headman it upsets their brain..........people like him soon start believing that only Ibos can qualify to lead over others.

Prof Nwabueze is an activist on constitution law, Senator Okurunmu is an activist on principles of democracy. This job is civic, not legal.

So who ought to lead it?

Afam4eva: I think Professor Ben Nwabueze is just using his ailment as an excuse. I think the reason why he opted out is because he feels he was sorta demoted. How can the president appoint a certain Senator Okurunmi to head such a commitee that prof Nwabueze is a member? It's similar to what happened in 1979 when Obasanjo setup a similar commitee and asked the last professor Rotimi Williams to head when Awolowo was a member of the same commitee and Awolowo also opted out.

A "certain" senator!

You better dawblechyeck that.

I wish Prof. good health. Going by what is written here, the National Conference is sold to the public as a referendum on sovereingty......but in truth, and behind doors, it is meant to act as a voice basket from which to insert reviews and reshape the Constitution.

Tinubu was right after all.

Berem is a strong woman because such bullying, name-calling, and threatening behavior would have had a life changing negative effect on any human being.

I hope waternogetenemy and his friends are ashamed of themselves! Two of them have threatened to physically assault her, in some countries, they will be in police custody.

This is not the 17th century where women can be subjugated and treated like inferior commodities.

Highly intolerable behavior!

Katsumoto: Afam

You were present on the thread when some chaps started verbally assaulting a young lady just because she has a contrarian view to theirs. You did nothing to stop it but as soon as those posters were called out for being what they are, you decided to close the thread and hide those comments.

You have to be consistent at all times; you can't become active suddenly because posters, who belong to your group, are exposed for what they are. And what action did you take against those who assaulted Berem?

...........lmfao.

Politics / Re: Nigerians, Please Slow Down On Copying Foreign Things by DuduNegro: 5:37am On Oct 14, 2013
Onlytruth: A non-Nigerian passing by this thread will feel very sorry for the human beings that inhabit that space.

Only about 5% of posters were able to grasp the issues I raised in the OP, focused on them and avoided the usual dumb temptations of ad hominems. Some were wanting me to name names and tag everything down as if they are in kindergarten. Of course I won't do that. The thread was even opened to warn POLICY MAKERS (most of whom hopefully are smart enough) to prepare Nigeria for the challenges of the 21st century. But I must confess that I forgot briefly that there is no Nigeria.

This thread was really inspired by something I read somewhere in Nairaland where someone was arguing that all federal universities should be sold off to private investors. The guy was arguing strongly that this is what obtained overseas. I was scracthing my head at this type of lazy mentality.
Copy and paste, that's all. No review; no adaptation!

98% of Yoruba commentators here couldn't see beyond "the Nollywood-in-Ethiopia-and-Africa" horizon. Once they got to that stage of the OP, their hearts lept into their mouths and from there every other points were useless, and the thread should be trashed.

Well, my hope is that someone in authority would implement some "review and adapt before adoption" regime in Nigeria -particularly in agriculture; else there may be no humans remaining there before we have time to partition the country into multiple nations.

ALL MY POINTS REMAIN INSURMOUNTABLE.

The points you raised in beginning are legitimate concerns but cannot be separated from differences in cultural values and drive for self preservation.

The end goal of your point is that, devoid of conversative measures to protect the "trusted" home market, a "free-rein-import" approach of everything goes is hazardous not only to our economy but also to health and wellbeing of our people. This is true. There is a similar argumenton the domestic side, which is........that Ibos are destroying sociocultural values with their attitude of everything goes, particularly with fake drugs. The drugs are far more lethal with side effects and wrong prescription than in the harzards of eating imported foods from genetically modified hybrids.

You should be a spokesperson not just for a control of imports but also against the inhuman trade practice your brothers are involved in.

There's no "fanaticism" involved, it's just that some people on this site tend to write junk, and I feel that I might as well respond. You're not helping matters by also writing junk. Since you admit you don't know anything beyond what you read online, why keep pretending to be knowledgeable?

I dont pretend to be knowledgable, Im proud of my enlightenement.

You are framing what i said earlier in a biased and colorful portrayal.

Im not interested in the Edo history preceding the Omon'Oba dynasty is not an admission of knowledge or lack of, its just a personal stance of what I consider unappealing.

PhysicsQED:

There's so much confusion in what you've written that it would pointless to try and improve your understanding on this same topic that we've already discussed multiple times, especially when it's obvious that you've never made any serious attempt at "looking at oral history of Edo" beyond what you've read on the internet. I don't intend to get dragged into the same lame argument yet again.

Im not interested in an indepth exploration into oral history of cultural or dynastic Edo, beyond that point at which Ife set foot in it.

If i were a son of Edo, .........oh my God! - i would study it fanatically.

I admire your fanaticism about your poeple, your culture and its history. I wish other Edos will be like you, unfortunately they vascillate in their confusion not knowing if they want to be Edo, Yoruba or Ibo. People like PapaBrowne is more igbotic than he is Edoid.

PapaBrowne: I totally disbelieve the possibility of the posters story for 2 reasons:

A large number of young Binis do no speak the language. I'm Bini and a proud one at that, but I cannot make a full sentence in Bini language.
If I were in the event as described by the poster, I would have been lost as I would not understand what they had to say.

Secondly, Edo is such a multicultural state and I think the most liberal in the whole of the country. The Esan population which is almost as large as the Bini population do not share exactly the same language with the Binis. If they were at that event, it will make no sense to speak Bini.

Now, it is important to note that Edo is both a language and a tribe before it became the name of a state.Edo tribe has been for centuries while the state just came into being in 1991. Edo is the language spoken by the Bini people. It is possible the poster attended an event that was meant not for Edo as a state but for the Edos as a tribe.

However, Physicsqed has presented evidence that shows that the poster was not entirely truthful.

You people up in that Edo state are confused.

Bini is a class, it is the ruler-elite class unique to the palace. Bini is foreign to your land, which is Edo. Ive preached this to Physics time and again..........but instead of looking at oral history of Edo, you people prefer going to European chroniclers to explain who you are.

Edo is indigenous and the Ogiso came out of the Edo culture.

Bini is foreign and an Ife elite class that has continued to rule in Edo land, beginning centuries ago with Oranyan.

English language is not native to your land. Bini language today is a admixture of Yoruba and Edo. You are the majority in Edo state and you should standup and assert your majority instead of explaining it with apologies.

Tell Igbankes to begin learning your culture and language or they should join the National Conference talk and demand a reunion with Umuahaia.

Poor response from you Ogbuefi negro. Can you tell Yorubas in Kogi state to learn Igala languaage to fit into Kogi gatherings?.
You don't make sense any more.

Yorubas in Kogi are not complaining. They are not intimidated by other people speaking their language or observing their culture. Yorubas have a wholesome universal view in a multicultural society.

Igbos continue to whine and complain and intolerant of others. You live in a multicultural nation, if its darn important for you to hear and understand others, then learn their language doggone it.........or relocate into alaigbo where you can understand and be understood when you and your people grunt to one another.

Politics / Re: National Conference - A Window For A People’s Constitution by DuduNegro: 11:34pm On Oct 13, 2013
This is a dumb article!

The National Conference is not a Constitutional Draft Conference, two totally different concepts. The author of the above article is mis-educated in civics education.

National Conference is a dialogue conference to review and seal socio-cultural agreements, it has nothing to do with drafting legal documents.

National Conference is a discussion on sovereingty and dependence/independence.

Someone need to sponsor the author to go take civic lessons.

Andre Uweh: WHOEVER MADE THE DECISION TO LUMP IGBANKE INTO EDO STATE SHOULD BE SHOT OR HANDED OVER TO ME TO DO JUSTICE.

I attended Edo State Day 2013 on 21st September 2013, organised by Edo State National Association UK.
From the personal greetings, the music, the introduction of guests to the the Master of Ceremony, every single sentence was in Bini language.

I felt like a fish out of water. I couldn't hear or understand a single word. I felt alien to the event, an alien in the midst of my supposed fellow Edolites. A stranger in my own State! Before you admonish me for not engaging, I can tell you that I did engage but everyone was engrossed in Bini language. I don't blame them. They are the majority but I had expected some translation of some sorts but all that was said was that if you don't understand Bini, just say Amen to some spoken words that I have no clue about. This is selfishness at the highest order.

I have to say that I have nothing against Bini people and hold them in high esteem. I accord the Bini's huge respect. I have them as my friends, as in laws and as cousins but I HAVE TO SAY THAT WHOEVER MADE THE DECISION TO LUMP IGBANKE INTO EDO STATE SHOULD BE SHOT. The relationship is so unbalanced and unequal. It is very difficult to get on when you can't relate to a single spoken word. If you attend a meeting and can't understand a word, how are you meant to represent your people? How do you pick up issues that borders on your people?

It is a big shame that Igbanke have to put up with this absurdity; an alien in the company of their supposed State Indigenes. Those our people who continue to say that Igbanke is Edo are so WRONG and far removed from reality. Unless, you can speak or understand Bini, one is alienated, completely at sea and lost big time.

The relationship is synonymous to a forced marriage, so unequal, so unbalanced and so wrong!
From Gloria Adagbo, a pround Anioma and Igbo daughter.

Gloria and her fellow Igbankes should learn Bini language. Problem solved!
