Arsenal players in the U20 WYC Confirmed call-ups: 1. Benik Afobe (England) 2. Francis Coquelin (France) 3. Ignasi Miquel (Spain) 4. Gilles Sunu (France) Probable (Likely) call-ups: 1. Emilio Martinez (Argentina) 2. Samuel Galindo (Bolivia) Surprise Exclusion: 1. Wellington Silva (Brazil) Here is hoping at least one of those who make it to the competition goes on to be the next Messi. ![]() |
@Debo Just checked up on Chelsea, they didn't break their contract with Emirates, it came to the end of its cycle and they chose not to renew it and went with Samsung. http://edition.cnn.com/2005/SPORT/football/04/25/england.chelsea/index.html Our agreement with Nike to release the money to us upfront while building the stadium had a trigger for an automatic 3 season extension which they activated last season, I'm afraid we're stuck in that regards but the current commercial team is working on some other partnerships (Like Manure's with companies like Globacom). They recently announced one with Indesit (who make washing machines) but no details were given on value. |
Why not? all things are possible to them that believe. ![]() Seriously, it depends on a lot of things, personalities, reasons and circumstances of breakup e.t.c. |
proudly9ja:Thot yu would have learnt by now not to believe everything you read in the press. A lot of desperate journalism going on at present. None of Cesc, Arshavin and RVP were present in the photo shoot for the new away kit, does that mean the other two are leaving as well? What of Nasri who still has contract dispute issues, yet showing up in the photo shoot? until you see the news on Arsenal.com Cesc remains our captain. On another note, I think I like this new kit. Debo, I don't think breaking those commercial deals will be in our best interests we would be setting an unusual precedent methinks as I've not heard of a football club doing such in recent years. Its yet more negative publicity we don't need and it might affect what other sponsors are willing to offer if we are known as deal breakers, exposure to litigation as well doesn't seem to be in our interest. Besides, why delve into such when we have a max of 2 seasons to go on the shirt sponsorship deal anyway. The idea was to have started winning trophies by the time those will become due for renewal so we are still on track depending on this season, both Usmanov and Kroenke know we are on the right track commercially and that is why these squabbles exist and Usmanov is so pained that he didn't get the takeover, his next strategy is to get to 30% of share outstanding so that he can get access to the finer details of financial dealings even if he is not offered a seat on the board. It is so bad now the fanshare scheme has no shares left to buy in the market and cash balances are just accumulating there without interest cos Usmanov has bought everything left at 14000 pounds compared to the 11750 that Kroenke offered in his mandatory bid. The only hope left for the Fanshare scheme is if the board agrees to create special shares for the scheme to buy (which might bring in some capital and dilute Usmanov's holdings and influence in affairs) or if we steadily buy Kroenke out over a long period of time (I don't see how that is of any financial benefit to him though). There is a lot going on at present at Arsenal and it goes beyond just winning trophies, there is a fight for the very soul of the club itself. Exciting days, I love this club. |
4llerbuntu:Point of correction 4ller, we are not in a financial quagmire. We are only choosing to be responsible in our spending, there is no financial problem at Arsenal, infact if the board were irresponsible enough to demand request an overdraft of 100 to 200m from some bank you can be sure we will get it, for a club that has made the UCL every year for 14 years running that is a cash cow guaranteed to keep on paying the accruing interests. Until something changes at the helm (which I personally will not pray for right now) Arsenal is commited to running the club from the money the club makes, not from benefactor handouts or unsustainable debts and that is one of the reasons why I support the club. That is why Arsenal is currently a synonym for sustainability, lets wait for the end of the transfer window and see where we are, Arsene and Gazidis have both promised changes and I expect changes but the transfer window is not officially opened yet. |
4llerbuntu, you do the club you support a great disservice by denigrating everything that represents it at every turn. Board, manager and even now other fans. I'm almost beginning to wonder who is worse now in you and DK. You wan take DK's crown ni? ![]() There is criticism healthy or unhealthy, there are even rants when people need to vent their frustrations with our situation or particular results and most people understand that but then there is destructive bull in the china shop behaviour and methinks yu're tending to the latter. Remember that this thread exists primarily because there are Arsenal fans who love the club and want to discuss it with other arsenal fans (and we're large hearted enough to accept some lonely folk who have no one to interact with on their threads and try to get attention by being a nuisance ). So, biko, abeg, ma binu, Debo is not as Pro Wenger as he appears right now. I know cos I've had hard words with him where his role is currently reversed with yours. |
dayokanu:what is wrong with this electric pole? abi some of your brain circuitry has been stolen by thieves while you were sleeping? ![]() |
Isn't this Barcelona Cesc chase getting ridiculous now? ![]() that club's utterances in the press is totally lacking in class, this is not how to do business at all. Infact, if I were Cesc I wouldn't want to go to that club again. They are now being disrespectful to the player himself. Imagine a club telling a 24 year old player that his value has been reduced by wear and tear? Kai, rich man dey mess o. |
debosky:Thanks jare Bro, not easy to change jobs and then move house within two weeks but its all sorted now. Any one coming for Emirates cup? where is Ahonohai? maybe we can form a Nairaland Supporter's club 5-a side team to play in the football competition. ![]() |
dayokanu:Shouldnt useless critics keep their unsolicited and useless opinions to themselves. ![]() |
Okay, seems we are all (not sure about Sauron and DK ) that Gervinho is an improvement over what we have, but what is this Douglas Costa thingie I'm hearing about? methoughts it was Willian we wanted to exchange Denny for? still think we need another wide player though and will gladly settle for Insomnia, rumors my preference Turan is likely headed for Chelsea as Hiddink has demanded his signing due to their Turkey connections.Obviously we are in the market for another AM type player, possibly a Diaby backup/competition we've been linked with that bloke who supposedly did the biz in Argentina last season and this Costa guy from Shaktar who didn't catch my attention, did he play against us? any other such player around that catches the eye? |
Won pe eyan lole o tun loun gbe omo eran jo. Shiiiiooo |
@DK Okay, we're not arguing that yu're not D.O. Fagunwa's Uncle but what does all this yoruba gymnastics have to do with the comparisons of Taraabt, Walcott and Lennon? ![]() |
@virgo I hear you my dear, its just so disappointing that any person who considers himself moral can say such things as has been attributed to Bakare, what happened to turning the other cheek? Bakare drags himself into the mud with statements like this. It is statements like this that end the career of politicians and people in the public eye in the UK (not even only those who are religious), it is even worse than the statement about Karma which brought an end to Glen Hoddle's career as the England football team manager. Anyone who followed the BB ticket (as I did) based on the principles that ticket claimed to stand for can't but be disappointed at the way Bakare has chosen to go on the offensive. This is not the breath of fresh air I believed was worth voting for. Tinubu should rightly be called silly and silly as he will lead us the yorubas on the wrong path (if he does become an ethnic leader of thought of some sort) but to question his lineage and then make such generic statements about those born out of wedlock? HELL NO. |
proudly9ja:The link to buy tickets is up, tried buying ahead yesterday so I could get good seats but the link brought up errors, not sure if its my friend's dodgy wireless broadband connection or the link itself. Still getting my service back up in my new apartment. |
virgo:From any angle you look at it, such a statement is wrong no matter what provoked it. It is not christianly in any way or at the least not Jesus like. It is also not right for someone seeking a leadership position and should Ideally be looking to build bridges and not create chasms between the disparate entities in Nigeria. Are those born out of wedlock not human beings and Nigerians? ![]() The same principle on which I supported Bakare is the same for which I condemn him on such a statement. I believe he will look on this statement some day and regret it. |
nateevs:His figures for Lille this season bear him out, (15 goals and 10 assists) what we need is a versatile forward due to the games we play (Like Pedro and Villa are for Barca) and Gervinho is quite pacy as well, seen him outrun even Hazard at Lille. SuperNik unfortunately is only suited for the top striker role in which he has both RVP and Chamakh to contend with. Gervinho will likely be played mostly as a wide forward. |
proudly9ja:Brilliant player, you do wonder how silly Tottenumb were to let him go, I wondered why when I watched him in their pre-season match against Benfica last summer, he is already much better than the likes of Lennon will ever be. The chap has got it all together now and carried QPR through to the PL mostly on his own this season. Definitely a top end player in the making. |
If indeed he was referring to Tinubu as a bastard, then Bakare is bang out of order on this, I've supported his ambition due to his principles but this approach is quite petty, he is now descending to the typical Nigerian rofo-rofo fight levels. ![]() |
Chei, see argument galore? why am I in the middle of a house move now? Please don't be too hard on Sauron, there is just so much info the brain can stack, all those crude insults of his are bound to be taking up some space meant for basic level understanding of the lingo. ![]() Anyways, happy days. The prodigal son of our shekpe supplier is trying to pacify the fans, so that means he is unlikely to go anywhere or he wouldn't see any reason to even bother about what Arsenal fans think. Someone has said its possible the senior playing personel at Arsenal want to break the current wage structure and Nasri is the poster boy. If he gets a wage increase, then something will have to be done for RVP and Cesc as well so make we siddon look, I've never been good at predicting transfers anyway so we shall know where we stand come august but I don't believe our Prince is going anywhere. On second thoughts, is Cesc really the highest earner at Arsenal? thought the last media report about higest earners in football mentioned Arshavin as the highest earner at Arsenal, haven't heard of a contract renewal for Cesc since this report though there were reports of some 'extra payments' outside his salary which were put in as part of his then unusually long 7 year contract: http://www.caughtoffside.com/2010/02/17/50-highest-paid-footballers-in-the-world-be-prepared-to-be-slightly-surprised/ If Arshavin is indeed the highest earner then please Nasri is entitled to fight for more money jare or Arshavin has to be moved on. |
Brilliant story writing in a contemporary setting, this would likely be the same guy who did that stuff with the kobojunkie title a while back. Hope to see your works on the shelves soon. The internet does throw up a conundrum with the virtual interaction it allows but in reality its not much different from the love letters and pen friends of old. Wherever any sort of human interaction exists, sparks are bound to fly with the certainty of some people getting burnt. |
slimshay:Righty oh, was wondering when someone would say that. Fair enough our set pieces defending could do with a lot of work but people forget we conceeded the least from open play, maybe because teams come up believing they won't have many chances from open play and focus on set piece routines against us. Curse you oh Sam Allardunce. Anyone worried about Djorou's performance yesterday? concentration and decision making still below par and Theo was still anonymous when not scoring but Wilshere as always despite a laboured and tired performance still upped it when England needed it. Just after I said it, Nasri decided against taking my advice, I really hope that is not the start of a journey of hate between him and the Emirates faithful, if they could turn on Arshavin the way they did this season, Nasri had better be a superman next season and turn up at important times like Rooney did for Manure this season if he stays. But seriously, our lads need some training in dealing with the media, they flash their 32 too readily, maybe they should cut down on their time at their dentists and spend it practicing set piece defending. ![]() |
This guy takes the mickey, didn't know such T. Rex type humans still walked the earth. |
debosky:Last season, I wouldn't have sold him for anything less than that, he might have dropped a bit on this season's performance but it is good that the club still values him that highly, he still has 3 seasons left on his contract and he is 24. Anyone who buys him know they are buying one of the best MFs out there for the next 3 - 6 years so why exactly should we sell him for peanuts? just because some people are throwing the baby out with the bath water and condemning a proven player who had an injury plagued season? |
naijababe:Hope often deferred makes the heart weak. Tarry a while longer my beloved, these present afflictions cannot be compared to the glory about to unfold. ![]() |
@Slim You dey fall my hand o, why you nor drill Muki well enof to change your name quickly? I trust myself, I go get name change and apology within 10 mins of ijakadi. ![]() @Debo Insomnia would be a great buy particularly if we can't make up the money for either Hazard and Turan and we'll also get a player proven in the PL, but I know most will condemn it under the French parapo myth. It will get worse by the media if he ends up benching Theo. |
@OP All you need to do is learn to cut your coat according to your material in terms of the following: 1.Housing 2. Food 3. Clothing 4: AOB (Any other business) Believe me, an human being can survive on anything even if he has to go and live off fruit, veg and any animals he can catch in the bush. Our ancestors neither had nor spent money, yet they survived and here we are today as living testimonies of the power of human endurance. |
dayokanu:Like Ribery also wanted to jump your sinking ship before Munschit showed him the money abi? ![]() |
dipo2much:RVP earns about that too, possibly around 100 on his year old contract, but then RVP never complains about money and I believe he and Clichy are the most loyal players who are passionate about the club, maybe its because the club stuck with him through his injury problems or he is just not too bothered about money I'm not sure. Nasri can definitely get more than that elsewhere, that is the effect that clubs who are run on sugar daddy money have on wages and why Arsene always says some form of fairness has to come in. City doesn't need to make any considerable turnover and the Sheikh's of Abu Dhabi don't have any books to balance. |
slimshay:another Adepaymemore scenario developing shey? Nasri would do well to not give any silly interviews at this point in time. but why do our players always do this? Adebayor, Hleb, Flamini and now Nasri. One good season and all hell breaks loose? ![]() He will get it I think, cos Arsene had previously promised to do 'anything' to keep him. Arsene is also manipulating the media as well as he doesn't usually publicise such things and its some sort of pressure on the board and owners to loosen the purse strings as well. |
@4llerbuntu It is easy to look at only that section of the post and overlook another that shows proper management of the club such as this: For many years Wenger was effectively fighting with one arm tied behind his back, due to the financial constraints imposed by building the new stadium, but the club now has sufficient funds available to spend again, albeit not at stratospheric levels, without compromising its sustainable model.or this: The most obvious tactic would be to sell some under-performing players and add that money to the transfer fund. Arsenal are well-versed in this art, being the only leading club to make money from buying and selling players in the era of foreign ownership (starting from the arrival of Roman Abramovich at Chelsea). Since 2003/04, Arsenal have net proceeds of £3 million, while Chelsea and Manchester City have spent almost £400 million. The “Redknapp factor” has helped Spurs spend £132 million in the same period, though his predecessors were no slouches in this department. The Swiss rambler always gives good analysis, though he still finds space to knock the club on the footballing side despite giving them reasonable credit for their management of the club through a difficult period. I remember my sparring with Debo in the last summer about the TPA account and I'm glad on his coverage of it in this article with his inference that it shouldn't be seen as a transfer warchest per say but as something that effectively bankrolls the improvement of the playing side of the club (its core asset) as a whole (Youth development, improved contracts and transfers. He's even added that it could also be used for infrastructure development as well) My conclusion based on this article is: 1. The estimated amount in the TPA is about 27m and this is an account you can say Arsene effectively has control over (since he is the one who generated most of the money in it anyway by his shrewedness in the transfer market), with our youth project effectively spending anything in the range of 5 - 10m annually, the money to buy the likes of Koscielny, Squillaci and Vermaelen has been coming out of the TPA. We've effectively been selling to buy since 2004. 2. The Swiss rambler's estimates of about 50m being available might be close to the truth and I think the club has to take that step this season to show some more initiative in the transfer market but this is now Kroenke's call to make as he controls the board, I still don't expect us spending anything close to that 50m going by our historical trend but if anything in the region 20m - 30m can be released and Arsene is able to get close to that range for those who are leaving, we can finally expect some long overdue moves in the transfer window (at the most 2 - 3 players in the 15 to 20m range is what I would expect). Whether that is able to finally land us the elusive trophy remains to be seen. In my opinion the strength of this team will still largely come from players developed within like Wilshere and co. |
