@1025 In your gross inability to exercise your minuscle intellect, did you see anything in my post that suggests such postulations as you come up with? The whole reasoning behind FFP is to stop scenarios such as clubs making 70m losses in a financial year and then going out to spend another 70m, and I did point out that Manure are already reining in their spending but your myopic eye/mind combo cannot understand that? if you can't understand that then go consult your financial advisor. Discussions on individual youth players and youth academy setups is different from FFP, where exactly in my post did I mention youth players? I guess some people are so scared of the Arsenal youth system that they wake up screaming from their dreams. Sheesh. |

Dextra:I don't think yu'll like it, Its the kind that makes you wonder if some people are born to have no iota of joy in their lives, definitely not for someone with depression/suicidal tendencies. Though one never can tell if seeing the depth of another's misery helps some people gain some perspective. Watched it when I was much younger, its an Indian film and the most miserable one I've ever watched, not sure where you can find it these days but its titled "Mother India". |
Dextra: just make sure you don't watch 'Mother India', most miserable film I ever watched in my life time. Your depression would likely increase ten fold. |
MrPrsdent:Maybe becos he is as surprised as some folks here and wants to see with his own eyes to be sure some people are not just using it as another opportunity to embezzle money. ![]() |
Well, economic reasons might be the main migration driver but these chaps have clearly shown that there are other equally compelling reasons. Congratulations to my new dear country men. |
Deep Sight:I wouldn't have put you in the group of those who oversimplify issues Deep sight, always believed yu're deeper than that or am I mistaken? ![]() A quick question would be to ask you if Thomas Edison should be considered insane due to his large number of experiments that led to the discovery of commercially viable incandescent lighting. ![]() |
Arsene aint going no where, anyone who is angry about that had better get used to it quickly. Hear from the man himself: “I think it is the responsibility of a football manager to behave in a responsible way, of course,” he said.I can't wait for this FFP thingie to come into play sef, I wonder if UEFA can walk their talk, if they do, a club like Chelsea would be a very good scape goat to start with as they would require something near a freeze in spending over the next three years if they are to meet the requirements when enforcement starts in 2014, Manure are steadily reining in their spending. |
dayokanu:so what is new in this information? have you posted the equivalent loss that Chelsea and Manure made in the same period? ![]() you are quick to write that Arsenal made a loss of 2.5m when the companies they compete against have the following results: Man United made a loss of 83.6m in their final year results: http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/sport/football/manchester_united/s/1411673_manchester_united_owners_make_1089m_loss Chelsea made a loss of 70m in their final year results despite doing a double and that was before the 70m they spent on Torres and Luiz: http://andersred..com/2011/02/chelsea-200910-results-spin-and-red-ink.html The financial results for this year will soon be out and Arsenal will be in the blue once again. |
dayokanu:Dayo you too fall my hand, are you not working in the financial sector? ![]() You still can't grab the difference between revenue and profit haba? maybe you go get am after you retire. ![]() |
snowdrops:You must be a very ignorant person, did you just learn that Kroenke made a mandatory offer for Arsenal today? do you really know the details of the offer or you just want to sound like you know something? Go and check bundles of posts on the Arsenal thread for discussions on the takeover before you go red in the face. |
snowdrops:Pray how many of the invincibles team members was not brought to Arsenal by Arsene? are you inventing some fictitious minority report? ![]() |
snowdrops:arrant nonsense, what should it matter if I have shares or not? 1800 fans contributed 500,000 pounds in the past 6 months to buy shares in their club, those are people who have a purpose and really love their club, not noise makers like you demanding trophies while probably watching streams online. Trophies my foot. The only trophy you deserve is the one you buy from Mama Mufu's beer parlour. snowdrops:Hope springs eternal, keep hoping. I also hope you also know that FFP is starting next month and having sugar daddies is no longer fashionable, anyway nothing suggests Kroenke is one, he has been on the board for at least 3 out of the 6 years we've not won a trophy and not changed a thing. snowdrops:And you think that the same man who bought this good players in the first instance did that without any reason at all just cos he woke up on the wrong side of the bed or drank a little too much burukutu some day and started ticking names to get rid of in the team abi? you're right I'm really trying hard to stop laughing. |
dayokanu:So what if some fans choose to boo their team? people have the right to do whatever they want with their mouths, booing is definitely better than licking an HIV infected kini. ![]() |
md4real:That is precisely why fans do not have the power to hire and fire a manager. Some people exist to complain about problems, others exist to understand such problems and proffer solutions. |
snowdrops:A good number of fans are now holding shares in arsenal so that distinction is quite blurred, a true fan whether shareholder or not should first of all be concerned about the survival of the club. Besides if you are not interested in bankrolling the club like Abramovic, what right have you to demand a matchstick much less any silverware of any colour? Its not really about what the priorities are for shareholders and fans, there exists a middle ground somewhere in there. Nobody has the right to demand a trophy if they aren't the ones bankrolling the club or else all clubs would be sacking their managers annually, Abramovic can sack whoever he employs if he feels he's not getting his 70m's worth but the Arsenal board cannot really say they're not probably getting more than their 10m's worth (a little bit of oversimplification I agree but thats a good basis to start from). Arsene hasn't won trophies for a while true, but he's won in the past when the playing field has been more level, a lot of fans understand what he faces and competes against and that is why they will continue to support him. |
snowdrops:One can't but question your statement about being a fan. That statement sounds more like a glory seeker. The most important thing is the survival of the club. If you prioritise trophies above financial solvency then yu're no fan. |
^^^ first one outta the exit door. Nothing unexpected and I don't find the article arrogant, just heartfelt. I'll be very concerned about his future if he didn't feel that way. |
This mental strength thingie is largely a creation of the media, by the way this thread is getting a bit too serious, where is Slim to come and inject some badly needed humor? or is he still drowning his sorrows in Mama Nasiru's apeteshi? |
My position has not changed, I have always said that I never judge this team on the 6 year mantra most people judge it with. At the start of the season, I believed this team was good enough to at the barest minimum finish in the top 2 and I believed we had enough quality to finish ahead of manure but that was before Chicharito's explosion and Chelsea going on their 70m spree, both of those teams further spent to improve their teams despite finishing 10 points ahead of us last season. That however is not an excuse, I'm disappointed how the season ended because the team did not take off as well as I thought it would and this team did underachieve this season it would be crazy to rationalize us competing for top spot with about 5 games to go and then having to settle for 4th place at the end of it all or to rationalize beating Manure when they needed to beat us and then messing up against Stoke, Sunderland, Bolton and Villa, I could have understood taking a close second, this falling away is simply unforgiveable and some heads have to roll. There were reduced contributions from some players who contributed more last season, some due to injury others due to bad form, some I can forgive others I cannot. I already wrote my season review weeks back, do I need to dig it up for you? |
follypimpi:I still believe in the Youth policy, It was the best direction to take when we couldn't compete with increased expenditure on players, it is the way the club has chosen to compete and I have no problems with it. I've never said I stopped believing in it, it has not worked out this season true, that does not in any way imply that it will never work. Dortumund rubbed DK's big club's face in poo in the bundesliga with a team largely developed within but that was after a 10 year gestation period and that team is already being bought up by larger teams like RM with financial benefit to Dortmund. Wenger at the helm or not, that is the club's strategic direction and that is not likely to change anytime soon whether Arsene remains at the helm or not. |
Pedro Bothelo is another one to look forward to for next season, plays anywhere on the left flank and will bring a physical presence to our left wing at 6 ft 2 in, he's also been a regular player anywhere he's went (though Vela was also like that while in spain) and he's been brilliant for Cartagena this season. Should light a fire under both Clichy and Gibbs at the barest minimum. There are many loan decisions Arsene would rue this season, Vela should also have been given a chance, most people slate him but can anyone say he's really been given a chance? he started with 3 goals or so for us at the beginning of the season but was kept on the bench subsequently, Arsene should be thanking his stars that circumstances conspired to prevent Wilshere from going on loan, I can only imagine how much worse we would have been with Denny. @Proudly Do you really think Bartley will be worse than Squillaci? if anything he has that british grit about him like Wilshere the earlier a lot of those young ones come into the team the better jare before they kill the spirit of the upcoming young ones like Wilshere. Bartely and Lansbury more than deserve their chance next season jare. Rosicky should be allowed to go and recover his leg in peace away from a high pressure situation such as we are in now and Squillaci can be flogged off to wherever he came from in the first instance, all the experienced first teamers who didn't pull their weight when required this season should be flogged off. |
Don't wanna add more ammo for DK but its amazing, Kyle Bartley who has only 1 first team appearance for us has already won an SPL winners medal with Rangers. |
This is bad. This team dare not start next season the way they ended this one. |
With Thomas Vermaelen expected to return to the first team on Sunday, Wenger was asked whether the Belgian centre back could have helped Arsenal address their weakness from dead balls. "I feel certainly a little bit, but I feel it is more about the size of our whole team in some games like Stoke," he replied. "When you go out of the back three, after that we are quite short, especially when Abou Diaby wasn't there for big games. When you have the defence plus Diaby and Alex Song, and you go to places like that, you can of course fight. "Sometimes we're one or two men short."
The first part wouldn't be such an issue if we do more with the ball when we have it as we need our small mobile players to move the ball around quickly (provided they are putting themselves about like Wilshere and not lazing around like Arshavin does most of the time). This team already knows how to keep the ball, it is in converting that possesion into danger for the opposing team rather than themselves that they fall flat on their faces. A friend always told me that our beautiful passing game hides the inadequacies of some of our players and I believe him now, while Arsene sorts out this team height wahala, penetration in the opponents final third must also be sorted, Theo could have been better but no one can fault that he's stepped up this season and at 22 can still improve some more, I can't say the same for Arshavin and he should have been a major player for us considering his age, experience and cost he simply hasn't been good enough this season. There are also solid rumors that we've already bought Carl Jenkinson a 19 year old RB from Charlton as Eboue's potential replacement, I don't expect to see him as a stable first teamer until at least 2 year's time though as Bac is an old reliable but if there is any consolation, he is tall at 6ft 1. |
biolabee:orisirisi news dey ranging from the revolutionary like selling Clichy, moving Vermaelen to LB with Gibbs as backup and then getting Cahill/Sakho in to make 3 CBs with Bartely as understudy with Vermaelen able to fill in as a CB when necessary, but Arsene aint saying nuthin as usual, na siddon look for transfer window. With the statements both Arsene and Bendtner have made so far though, its likely B52 will be heading out this window, I know many won't miss him but I will as he seems to have matured a lot this season and his stats aren't really bad based on his appearances. Almunia is also going as he is out of contract and it would be madness of some sort to renew his contract with both Poles already overtaking him, I expect both Rosicky and Arshavin to follow him and I'm still dreaming that Arda Turan will somehow end up at the emirates next season with Cesc staying. |
4llerbuntu:For the most part, here is more on Kroenke and the takeover bid. The portion in bold are very positive for the future of the fanshare scheme, from all I see it doesn't seem as if even Kroenke wants to become sole owner and any increase in equity will be exclusively for the fanshare scheme thereby diluting his own influence and Usmanov's over time. AST writes to all shareholders explaining why it is keeping its shares Posted on: 13/05/11 9 May 2011 Dear Shareholder We are writing to you as an Arsenal shareholder and custodian with regard to the formal takeover offer document (“Offer”) issued by Kroenke Sports Enterprises (“KSE”) for Arsenal Holdings PLC (Arsenal) on 6 May 2011 and recently sent to all shareholders in the post. Please accept our apologies for contacting you like this if you are no longer a shareholder in Arsenal. The Arsenal Supporters’ Trust (AST) represents almost 1,000 shareholders and supporters who have become members of the AST because they care about the future of our club and wish to play a constructive role in its governance. We also recently established Arsenal Fanshare to give more supporters influence and representation in Arsenal’s ownership structure through mutually owned shares. To date more than 1800 supporters have joined the scheme and invested more than £650,000 in Arsenal shares. You can read more about the scheme at www.arsenalfanshare.com Our reason for writing is to explain why the AST and Arsenal Fanshare will not be selling our shares to Stan Kroenke, and to set out some reasons and reassurances that we hope will encourage you to take the same course of action. This position is not an anti-Kroenke statement but is a pro-Arsenal statement; we have high regard for Mr Kroenke. The AST believes that Arsenal is stronger when supporters are represented in its ownership structure. This arrangement means we can ask questions at an AGM and scrutinise the official report and accounts, something the AST has gained a reputation for doing with clarity and expertise. We also think that having supporters involved in the ownership helps to give the club a real sense of ‘belonging’ and acts as a check and reminder to those that run the club that it’s most important asset is its supporters. The AST has established a role as a watchdog of the club and there are numerous examples of where we have both influenced policy and also ensured that the views of fans are listened to. Later this month Ivan Gazidis will hold his main supporter end of season review and Q&A with AST members. The Offer itself is of course a legal requirement that Stan Kroenke has to follow as a result of buying Danny Fiszman’s and/or Lady Bracewell-Smith’s shares in Arsenal as he breached the 30% level that is a precursor to a mandatory bid. The AST is encouraged that Stan Kroenke has responded to our questions since the issue of the initial takeover announcement by adding wording to the Offer on the important role fans have at the heart of the club and committing personally to engage with supporters for the long-term good of the club. The meetings with supporters that Kroenke refers to in this statement (section 5, page 7) are with the AST which makes them an important pointer to future policy direction. In these meetings he has spoken of his regard for the role of small shareholders and personally backed Arsenal Fanshare. As a Board member he voted for the establishment of a three year partnership agreement between the club and Arsenal Fanshare (2010 to 2013) and was receptive to the idea of making new equity available exclusively to the scheme. Kroenke also says that he does not plan to delist Arsenal from the PLUS Markets. Further, Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has frequently stated his commitment to having supporters involved in the ownership of Arsenal and recently spoke of the importance of the Fanshare scheme to Members of Parliament investigating football’s governance. The AST takes these words from Stan Kroenke and Ivan Gazidis in good faith, in line with our previous dealings, and look forward to working with him to keep Arsenal supporters involved in the club’s ownership structure and contributing to the club’s success. The AST has also held discussions with Red and White Holdings which owns 27% of the shares in issue, which has stressed its intention to maintain its shareholding (and it continues to buy shares) and this, together with the statements in the Offer document that KSE do not intend to delist the shares, leads us to believe there will continue to be a market in Arsenal shares following the closing of the Offer. All of these factors mean it is likely that up to 35% of shares in Arsenal Holdings PLC will remain outside the ownership of Stan Kroenke with up to 10% in the hands of small shareholders. This should guarantee the on-going listing of Arsenal on the PLUS markets for the forseeable future. Accordingly Arsenal Fanshare will continue and will also help to create a market in Arsenal shares. Shareholders who wish to sell their shares in the future will have the option to sell them to other supporters subscribing to the scheme. Just this month Arsenal Fanshare placed orders for more than £50,000 worth of shares and many of the shares it buys each month come from shareholders who wish to sell only to other supporters (if you are thinking of selling in the future then please think of the Fanshare scheme). As Arsenal shareholders we are all custodians of the club and its future. The AST believes passionately in such custodianship and urges shareholders to remain as custodians and retain their Arsenal shares for future generations of Arsenal fans. We hope that you have found the information in this letter helpful and that you will choose to remain a custodian in Arsenal’s future. Please do contact us on info@arsenaltrust.org or through our website www.arsenaltrust.org if you require any further information. If you are not a member already then do please join us and help us to be the most effective voice of supporters at any club in the Premier League. Finally, we must stress that this letter does not constitute any form of financial advice or recommendation and we cannot guarantee any future arrangements or prices for Arsenal shares. If you are in any doubt as to what course of action to take then we would urge you to consult a solicitor, accountant or other independent financial adviser duly authorised under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. Yours sincerely Arsenal Supporters’ Trust |
