Hello house, please what is the difference between the 12v and 24v inverter a friend said that the 24v volts consumes more energy and advised I go for 12v-800w to1kva inverter since its a small set up comprising tv, home theater, dstv, rechargeable fan and 4 bulbs. Ive gotten 2 units of 150ah network batteries. But mercury battery backup time calculator says otherwise. Please advise thank you

While awaiting other comments, we "small system" users need to help each other!
The issue is the bigger the inverter the more likely the idle consumption ( take that as the energy the inverter use to run itself), so a smaller inverter may be better for your system. Also, if your energy need at any time will exceed 50% of the capacity of an inverter , you should rethink your energy use/ inverter size maths.
Note also:
1) 12v system needs a single 12v battery to work, 24v will need 2 at any given time.
2) Your 2 batts backup time is fairly the same minus idle consumption and cable loss for similar loads
3) Lower voltage systems need thicker cables for heavy loads compared to higher voltage systems on similar load.
4) Any future plans for expansion?

Only disagreement I have with your comments is that “there are no restrictions for LGAs in constructing Hospitals.”

There actually are restrictions. So constitutionally, schedule 4 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended): you rightly mentioned, states that LGAs are responsible for providing primary healthcare facilities.

The problem is that they carry out these responsibilities, in practice. as administrative units of the States they are located. So it means they provide the facilities within the competence an provisions from of their state governors.

When the Federal government makes budget allocations from the CRF, it’s usually sent to a State/LGA joint account - which, more often than not, is within the discretion of the state governors to allocate to each LGA in its territory.

So the problem is that the LGAs end up getting meagre funds for its projects - which usually is only enough to pay its staffs and a few minor projects. The LGAs lack autonomy and independence. It’s a huge problem for us, ideally, fiscal federalism, which Nigeria purports to adopt, requires that lower tiers of government should be economically self-sufficient and independent since it’s the closest government to the people.

So, in theory, they are meant to provide these facilities. But in practice - the chain of transactions for providing funds to these lots gives too much leeway for some parties to embezzle these funds so that LGAs are rendered non-effective.

I personally think the LGAs should have more powers in this country with a weaker central government. That way, we can hold them more accountable for their failures.

I support you sir. A sad story really and many unfortunate issues involved. A busy hospital, a decadent system, a needy population and an unenlightened populace. People think doctors and nurses are insensitive to their plight yet a line was sited for the young man in the vehicle because there was no bedspace in the emergency room. Is that not a sign the system was overwhelmed? I cannot imagine empty beds inside and people will be walking back and forth to take care of him in the car. When LUTH ,UCH, LASUTH were built what was the population of Nigeria? In what way have we reacted infrastructure wise to the population explosion? The population of Nigeria was about 42 million when LUTH started operations but around 200m now.
By the way Local government authorities are responsible for primary and comprehensive health centres and there are no restrictions in constructing one .
A fact of life is we , all of us, will die one day, whether we are in UK, USA, or in Nigeria. We can't live forever no matter how good health care is. The unfortunate aspect is that we are loosing a lot of "savable" life's in Nigeria. And the problems causing these loses are deeper than the " doctors and nurses are wicked" mantra.

Lots of reasons your thoughts won’t work. I have been to this Luth before, even this year. The number of emergencies they get is alarming. We even queued for about 1hr 10 mins to pay for registration. I had to do lots of tests and at each stage I had lots of people before me.

So I personally think there are not enough hospitals and they are short staffed as well. It’s really pathetic what happened to this family and I don’t wish it on anyone - even on my enemies, but it’s just the situation of the Nigerian system. I am fortunate to be a lawyer, and I tell you that they will only be successful in court if they could prove that the medical personnel were idle, which is usually difficult. Someone can’t be negligent if he genuinely was attending to other emergencies.

It’s such a pity and I wish Local Governments can be given more autonomy to establish Hospitals and provide other social benefits rather than rely on State and Federal government hospitals. Nigeria really needs restructuring

we have 2 types one is 13a (plug and play) the other 100a ( can be wall mounted)

That batch I got were used, so I might not be seeing the whole picture but the batteries held up quite well despite my ignorant abuse then ( deep discharges coupled with a locally built inverter) and only eventually died because I tampered with them.

In theory, never try that.

In practice, almost every solar enthusiast I know who's used AGM (and had dead batteries) would have either wondered about it or tried it. I've done both. Hit or miss, more misses than hits (let's say 15% success with limited extension of battery life and a very real risk of battery explosion). I witnessed poorly sealed caps pop off with such force as to displace a spanner.

At best, a risky experiment. I can't stop you from trying it but I can give one really good piece of advice: have 911 on speed dial.

Before I knew of this forum, I gave my set of 200amp telecom batteries to a battery charger for repair because they were not holding charge. He filled it with diluted acid and sealed it up. We first noticed the pervading smell of acid on return but worse with charging the batteries, later one could also dance to the music of boiling liquid inside the batteries!
It was a disaster waiting to happen. I learnt my lesson sha!

What are you exactly using the CC for? For most CCs it is redundant. You connect your batteries to the + and - terminals on the CC and your inverter to your batteries. However if you are using it to control output to loads like street lights, house lights etc light loads like that, that you want to time[/size][size=8pt] duration of use , then it could be useful.

Seeing this reminded me of a local battery charger/repairer I once saw at work. The guy melted a white metallic substance (Aluminum??) , created a mould at the top of the terminal after filing it clean, poured the molten metal on the terminal and voila, a new terminal head! Took about 5-10 minutes .

Just finally moved to my own modest house. Decided to finally take a chill pill on the race for the higher wattage and settle for efficiency on the consumption side. This allowed me to set aside some funds for putting a roof over my head all glory be to God. My 1.84kw panel is all the electricity I need for now. I will connect to the grid once am done with some finishing touches to the house.. I generate enough to provide me 24 hours electricity that meets every basic needs refrigeration, laundry, light, TV, kitchen stuff.

The house runs on LED spot lights the highest being the single 12w kitchen lights. Over night amps draw before sun rise is 75AH from a 24v 200ah battery. I had time regig my setup.. Power drill was a life saver.

A big congratulations! Beginning of greater things!! Nothing gives you that joy like sleeping and waking up knowing you are the Landlord; to do and undo as you wish!

Update on thin film panels 1.4kw on 60 amp MPPT iTracer . Got a total harvest of 8.1kw yesterday. Pic taken around 5pm when harvest was 8kw. Fingers crossed!!!

In 2015 I did an installation 1.4kw using thin films. I got extremely good harvests. I lost the EP solar 60amp CC to thunder strike and now use 2 30amp CCs, so no recent pics. The 7.7kwh harvest was from my Mono panels in 2015 or 16. I hardly monitor my POLY panels; they were bought used without specs.

6.3KwH harvest from a 1.53kw array is quite impressive. That is an efficiency of 4.12KwH/Kw.

Seems to have been having some clear skies nowadays: the system was generating 25amps even before 9 am in the morning!

Reasons why JW dont take blood:

Does the Bible’s prohibition include human blood?
Yes, and early Christians understood it that way. Acts 15:29 says to “keep abstaining from . . . blood.” It does not say merely to abstain from animal blood. Is a transfusion really the same as eating blood?
In a hospital, when a patient cannot eat through his mouth, he is fed intravenously. Now, would a person who never put blood into his mouth but who accepted blood by transfusion really be obeying the command to “keep abstaining from . . . blood”? (Acts 15:29) To use a comparison, consider a man who is told by the doctor that he must abstain from alcohol. Would he be obedient if he quit drinking alcohol but had it put directly into his veins?

In the case of a patient that refuses blood, are there any alternative treatments?
Often simple saline solution, Ringer’s solution, and dextran can be used as plasma volume expanders, and these are available in nearly all modern hospitals. Actually, the risks that go with use of blood transfusions are avoided by using these substances. The Canadian Anaesthetists’ Society Journal (January 1975, p. 12) says: “The risks of blood transfusion are the advantages of plasma substitutes: avoidance of bacterial or viral infection, transfusion reactions and Rh sensitization.” Jehovah’s Witnesses have no religious objection to the use of nonblood plasma expanders.
Jehovah’s Witnesses actually benefit from better medical treatment because they do not accept blood. A doctor writing in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (June 1, 1968, p. 395) acknowledged: “There is no doubt that the situation where you [the surgeon] are operating without the possibility of transfusion tends to improve your surgery. You are a little bit more aggressive in clamping every bleeding vessel.”
All types of surgery can be performed successfully without blood transfusions. This includes open-heart operations, brain surgery, amputation of limbs, and total removal of cancerous organs. Writing in the New York State Journal of Medicine (October 15, 1972, p. 2527), Dr. Philip Roen said: “We have not hesitated to perform any and all indicated surgical procedures in the face of proscribed blood replacement.” Dr. Denton Cooley, at the Texas Heart Institute, said: “We became so impressed with the results [from using nonblood plasma expanders] on the Jehovah’s Witnesses that we started using the procedure on all our heart patients.” (The San Diego Union, December 27, 1970, p. A-10) “‘Bloodless’ open-heart surgery, originally developed for adult members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses sect because their religion forbids blood transfusions, now has been safely adapted for use in delicate cardiac procedures in infants and children.”—Cardiovascular News, February 1984 p. 5

Sir, I listened to your arguments but found it faulty in many front sir. The soul CANNOT continue to exist in the body without blood. The blood carries many things the body needs especially OXYGEN. As a DOCTOR you can only MANAGE what is AVAILABLE by not wasting what you have when you have to do surgeries. In cases of emergencies, the blood may have been lost and you have very little to work with from the onset, hence the need for blood. Use of blood alternatives , plasma expanders etc are temporary measures to boost what is available pending when blood will be available- either produced by the body, which take days or by blood transfusion which works immediately.
To use you own analogy, doctors restrict patients to take food by mouth after some surgeries but that does not prevent taking nutrients and nourishment from other routes including the use of intravenous drips.

To put it in the right perspective, I have close friends that are JW. I love them and care extremely for them. I have operated on some , really major surgeries, without blood transfusion taking all the necessary precautions but I always make it clear: if you REALLY need blood and it is not given , then you can not survive.

To sum it up, as of today,anywhere you are in the world, blood is necessary for life; without it you die!

Yes, I did last year. I saw them on Nairaland, paid in advance and had been using the pond since. I think I had answered this before on this forum and you can check my previous posts for pictures though I will to post newer ones. I am based in Ogbomoso though, getting it to me was difficult because of transport routes but we eventually resolved it.

The surgery should readily be done in any Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria and even in some state and Private Hospitals. Price depends on where. As low as @50k in Government hospitals and as much as 500k or more in highbrow private hospitals! Stop staying indoors, visit hospital ASAP!
