As long as TStv goes ahead with the features they promised, like 20gb data, Wi-Fi hotspot via the in-built Wi-Fi, PVR, 500gb inbuilt storage, with unlimited expansion via external storage, Video conferencing utilizing its inbuilt camera, plus all the channels listed on their website, then TStv will succeed. |

OP, TStv has been explained a million times, but I'll go over it again.
Viewing of channels doesn't require data. The data included is just an added bonus meant for other purposes such as WiFi hotspoting since the decoder has in-built WiFi. It also has an in-built camera for video conferencing purpose, so those using the decoder can make video calls between themselves. |

sisimmi: I was @ the launch @ Sheraton, Abuja. The crowd was impressive. Event was well organized. They promised all that we already know. The MD added that they have signed an MOU with MainOne to retail their data as part of the package and that the 20GB at first subscription is complementary. It got a lot on tongues wagging. If they can deliver data on the cheap, then it's goodbye to DSThievy! From the frenzy and ecstasy I felt in that hall today, DSTV obviously has a lot of dissatisfied customers in Nigeria who really yearn for something better; something more exciting. I was thinking that TSTV would give us a pinhole view of their offering in real time today. Alas, they presented multimedia clips with voice-over kinda adverts about their mission. And when Lai Mohammed unveiled the decoder, it was a huge dummy decoder. Nothing to feel or see. Perhaps they are still tweaking the real deal. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Thumbs up to them though. I'm starting to think that the actual decoders are not ready for distribution. I just hope i'm wrong. |

godwinony: Hope their sports channels are as HD as Dstvs Supersports channels ... BeIN sports on CTL and Metro are like 3gp video quality..most times you won't even see where the ball is on the field of play CTL/Trendtv decoders are not HD, so they can't transmit in HD. |

Phones › Re: Gotv Is In Soup: Tstv To Take Over Dstv And Gotv By October by dustmalik(m): 9:38pm On Sep 30, 2017 |
thebosstrevor: ABS and Telcom Satellites TV (TSTV) signed a multi-transponder agreement to deliver a Direct-to-Home (DTH) broadcast service into Nigeria on ABS-3A. With Glo,MTN and others launching satellites and their multi billion dollars investment in Nigeria, they haven't still been able to solve Nigerian internet connectivity and speed problems talk less of tstv
Now dstv are watching and seeing how things turn out,In my opinion if tstv is a real competitor, dstv will reduce price to compete and might launch gotv max service to compete. I just noticed TStv subscription options are already available on quickteller. According to TStv, after exhausting the included data, you can buy Data separately at the cost of N300/gb, which is quite cheap. According to the option below, there'll also be VOD (Video On Demand) service. https://www.quickteller.com/tstv

thebosstrevor: In a tstv model, customers are expected to make payments for content ahead of watching. However, as you watch, an amount is deducted from your account when streaming (assuming it is an internet based service) or per second or minute if it’s the regular satellite TV model (which is rare).
In Africa, the only Satellite TV is Kwese TV. They charge about N990 a week or N6,275 a month. Using N990 a week, it suggest the bill is about N141 per day. Kwese’s PAYW model is per day
The tstv model also has its challenges. For services that rely on internet, streaming can be slow due particularly in Nigeria. The buffering challenges are real and can be frustrating especially when you are watching intense programmes. Another challenge is determining the rate of 1 kilobyte of data being streamed. How is this metered and at what point does a customer confirm that they will be charged.
For tstv models that rely on satellite, even though, this option might appear cheap, it is likely to be expensive if you have a family that watches a lot of TV. For those looking for multiple views, it is also likely that you might rack up cost
tstv might be ideal for the consumers but does not bode well for the Cable service providers as they are more likely to run a deficit in no time. Think about it. Many decoders will only be on for programs people deem more important like football matches, soap operas, news, and the likes.
Even major programmes like the voice, Bigbrother, and Naija sings, will only get viewers on eviction days. This will be a financial setback to the cable service providers. They still have to cover costs such as tax, diesel, salaries and insurance. For now, let's talk about what we've been told by TStv. 1. According to TStv, the 20gb data that is shipped with the decoder is just a value added service, not for streaming its channels. Data is not required to view its channels. 2. The decoder, dish, and first 30 day subscription costs N5,000. 3. It supports Wifi hotspoting, which other devices can connect to, hence be able to utilize its included data. 4. There are tiers of subscriptions, which are; 30days - 10gb data at N3,000 15days - 5gb data at N1,500 10days - 3gb data at N1,000 7days - 2gb data at N750 3days - 1gb data at N500 Daily - 500mb data at N200 5. All subscription tier will have access to all channels, in other words, no bouquet. The only difference is in the number days of validity. 6. The decoder has an inbuilt 500gb storage, with capability of unlimited expansion via an external storage. All subscription level will have PVR access, with no additional fee for PVR access, unlike DStv. |
