If those infrastructure were built by the states, it automatically means the federal govt has to reimburse them, which means more pressure to use the borrowed monies appropriately, less unallocated funds, less chance for corruption, inefficiency, Bureaucracy and even less nepotism.

Hehehe..next level directive. Seriously though, ths is wrong on all counts because FG is clearly too ethnocentric to want to pay equal attention to all regions. It is mostly Southern governors that are forced to intervene on federal roads. Northern governors don't have to because the president is their brother!

Now if the state governors are asked to steer clear or repair those roads at their expense, what then is the FG doing? If they were doing their jobs will governors have to? Why not look at how to agree on payment modalities and review claims made by the state governments? These idiots in power are fond of either forcing stuff down the throats of Nigerians or absolutely throwing out the baby with the bathwater! They never apply critical thoughts to their policies and decisions!

Those Governors should heal themselves before attempting to heal any other entity. And they have a lot to account for in their various domains. He was penciled down for a long time, remember Buhari refused to appoint Onoghen when Onoghen was next in line. It was not until Buhari was ill in London that Osinbajo appointed Onoghen.

Which meant Buhari most probably had the more correct information about Onoghen's culpability and criminal tendencies all along, as eventually proved in court and partly by Onoghen's admissions himself.

To me, the case of Onoghen turned out to be a rotten egg on the face of VP Osinbajo, who probably thought he was doing the needful for a fellow senior member of the legal fraternity, when in actual fact he just rushed to appoint a shady character at best in Onoghen.

Earlier on I saw a thread on the cash-less policy, though it had so many wrong information.

Please lets get some things clear while reacting.

A:- The policy is aimed at reducing (not ELIMINATING) physical cash in circulation. This will encourage more electronic-based transactions.

B:- The charges are on the EXCESS of the amount. Not the principal (for lack of better words).
-The charges are 3% on withdrawals and 2% on lodgments for INDIVIDUAL accounts.

-5% on withdrawals and 3% on lodgments for CORPORATE accounts.

-The CUMULATIVE limit is N500,000 for individuals and N3m for CORPORATE accounts.


C:- Unlike stamp duty charges that hits the beneficiary’s account directly, the cash-less charge on DEPOSITS is borne by the depositor. Except you are also the depositor.

ii:- The charge on WITHDRAWALS is borne by the account holder.

D:- The policy was only REINTRODUCED, it has been there before, but was halted at some point. The pilot stage of cashless policy (withdrawals) took off in Lagos on March 30, 2012 and spread out to some major states (Abia, Ogun, Rivers, Anambra, Kano & FCT) by October 1, 2013.

E:- It is a CUMULATIVE DAILY LIMIT on all CASH transactions. So, don’t pay in N500,000 and come back with N50,000. Use alternative channels.

ii:- The charges applies to all transaction that involves CASH- irrespective of the CHANNEL. This includes ATM and 3rd party cheques cashed over the counter. However, 3rd party cheques above N150,000 can no longer be cashed over the account.

F:- The policy has taken off in major states as at Sep 18th, 2019. You don’t know this because you probably do not have N500,000 to withdraw or deposit- CASH.

G:- The Reps have however told the CBN to pause on its implementation.


IT IS NOT ALL BAD NEWS AS THERE IS AN ADVANTAGE IN THIS POLICY FOR ALL PARTIES INVOLVED

-For Consumers: Increased convenience, lesser risk of cash-related crime, access to out of branch services, more banking services option and financial inclusion.

-For Corporations: Faster access to capital, reduced cash leakages and cash handling cost.

-For Government: Increased tax collections and economic development, greater financial inclusion.


EXCEPTIONS TO THIS POLICY
The policy applies to all accounts with exception to Government revenue generation accounts, Embassies, Primary Mortgage institutions and MFBs.



NOTE: You can avoid these charges by using alternative channels. Please contact your financial service provider for these channels.

BTW, has anyone like me thought that Atiku probably wanted to make a "triumphant" re-entry back to Nigeria from Dubai, if the Tribunal had proclaimed him winner? Lol.

The people of Niger Republic do not eat parboil rice (they eat white rice), but importers based in Benin and Nigeria import parboiled rice to Benin Republic in very large quantities and then re-export same to Niger, Chad and Cameroon (all Nigeria’s next door neighbours) for smuggling into Nigeria where parboiled rice is eaten.

This is the whole shenanigan in a nutshell. In addition to the steps being taken by the Federal Government, may the good Lord drive decent sense into those involved in this backdoor importation practice. That way, they will realize the enormity of the damage they're criminally inflicting on the economy of Nigeria.

If u followed the proceedings of the PEPT and was not just shouting the Atiku is coming mantra, you'll discover that Atiku's legal team did a very shoddy job, their witnesses were just a joke and this particular issue of server was just dead on arrival. In general, Atiku should just have gone home and count his losses after the election. He lost woefully. Like really woefully. His sycophantic followers(Them Buba Galadima) were the ones that coaxed him and I believed he went to court to save face. No one should say anything about Buhari intimidating the Judiciary or that the Judiciary is dead because of this judgment o. Atiku had no case from the onset and the Judiciary should actually be applauded for a diligent job

Why not? Why should she help an accused keep his own money if she believes she was wronged by him? The man will be asked to pay only if he's found culpable AND she deserves to be reimbursed. That's the way it works with the courts with this strictly civil part of case. This is not yet the criminal part of the case. If you don't ask for your legal cost(s) [for example] to be defrayed by the accused and the accused is found culpable, you get help with nothing. As has been stated over and over by the courts, the courts are not father Christmas; you get a relief only if you ask for it and deserve it.

How many people pay this tax you're on about, anyways? And before you say it's the government's headache if it cannot collect due taxes from its subject, just note that every citizen also has a civic duty to pay his/her tax by law, without the government having to spend resources needed to provide other services, to chase after tax evaders.

Anyways, if you must know, tolled roads are common and beneficial features in all societies of the world that put them to proper use. The caveat is that alternatives are provided for those who're not disposed to using them.

You do not have the support back home which is you are trying to shut other Nigerians outside Nigeria up so that you would project yourselves as the spokespersons for certain part of Nigeria, the southeast. But you don’t have that support.

So, please, lay down this futile struggle, give up this terrorist activity and if you want to represent people in the southeast or Nigeria, there is a way to do it. We have a constitution, then you go about it, the same way others did.

INTERVIEW: Attack on Ekweremadu was terrorism – Nigerian ambassador to Germany

September 7, 2019 Ruona Agbroko-Meyer

In this interview with a freelance journalist, Ruona Meyer, the Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, Yusuf Tuggar, insists that the attack on ex-deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, by members of the separatist group, IPOB, is a crime and an act of terrorism. He challenges the German authorities to bring the perpetrators to book.

Ms Meyer shared the interview exclusively with Prremium Times.

Excerpts:

PT: We`ve got a few questions for you following an exclusive interview with the German police. They have said that they identified four people in connection with the alleged attack on Senator Ekweremadu. What can you say about the attack and the investigation?

Tuggar: First of all, this assault on a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which from all probability was with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm took place moments before I arrived at the venue, and although I didn’t witness it live. I got to the scene of the crime shortly after it happened and I spoke to several people there and I attended the event and also joined the sombre mood as well.

It was (like) an animal when a man is made to run for his life while people try to haunt him down, rip him off his clothes. There were sticks being brandished. We thank God Almighty no serious harm was done to him or indeed any other person that was there, those that arrived with him or those that organised the event.

PT. The German police have told me that `eggs` were also thrown and they had to block Ekweremadu`s car to prevent people from crowding him. Now by what you described, why did you feel the need to still go to that event? Were you not afraid that a similar thing may befall you?

Tuggar. Indeed, the reason why I insisted on attending the event even though that terrible incident happened was that I understood IPOB`s intent was to make sure that the event didn’t hold, and if it did, they wanted to make sure no representative of the Nigerian government or indeed anyone who would project the indivisibility of Nigeria was in attendance too.

Therefore, (going was) the only way to counter such a terrorist move – because it is terrorism, as you can see the most active word in it is ‘terror’ and what they wanted to do was to terrorise people into silence. And if we all decided we were not going to attend, they would have achieved their objective, and that’s why I insisted on going there. In fact, I was trying to get Senator Ekweremadu into my vehicle which represents the Federal Republic of Nigeria here, and once you are inside that car you are within the Nigerian territory but, unfortunately, those that were around and the police put their best to take him out of the venue.

PT. So, police say they have gotten four people and they are reviewing the evidence and they are still going to continue. They might likely have more people on their list. Could you give me more information about this case?

Tuggar. We have done our best to ensure that the authorities are aware of what transpired, and share the videos with those who haven’t seen it. The videos speak for themselves. So, anybody trying to say there were no crime committed or no physical attack on Senator Ekweremadu either hasn’t seen the video or is on a different mission. It is clear.

There is no political protest that will push the supposed protesters into physically touching and assaulting another human being. Anywhere that happens in the world, it is a crime and some people need to be brought to book.

So, quite honestly, I fail to understand how the issue of peaceful protest comes into this. If they were on peaceful protest, they would have come to my office with placards and said what they wanted and left.

And the police are there. But you cross that line in any country and place your hand on any individual trying to cause harm. What I do know is that in some countries, first and foremost, they would be arrested and they have the right to bail. But when the police are there and witness something like that, one would expect arrest will be made and thereafter bail can be arranged and the investigation goes on, and if there`s need to prosecute, then they get prosecuted.

PT: Ambassador, I get the sense you are sort of holding some information. Nigerians also say the same thing that they’ve not been carried along, some Nigerians say apart from the first press release, your office issued almost immediately after the event, there has been nothing else.

What do you have to say about this? Are you withholding information for any reason?

Tuggar: Well, we have decided to remain silent. We have said what we are going to say in the statement and have explained what transpired. We explained that formally and informed the German authority. After we informed them, we were made to understand that there is an investigation going on. We do not want to interfere in the process of that investigation, which is why we do not make any statement of pronouncement.

We believe in the rule of law and Nigeria has come a long way in trying to ensure the strict compliance to the rule of law. When we are outside Nigeria, we try to abide by the same principles, which is why we did what we felt was right. We have expressed to the German authorities our desire to support the efforts toward investigating what transpired and bringing perpetrators to book.



We protect Nigeria and Nigerians here in Germany to ensure their safety and their integrity remains intact. And this issue is all about Nigeria and Nigerians, not even about Senator Ekweremadu, it can happen to anyone and we will take it up.

We have to ensure that the value of the life of Nigerians and their property is also respected all over the world. We are trying to project that positive image, we cannot have a situation where Nigerians are attacked by criminals and terrorists and nothing gets done. It doesn’t happen anywhere in the world, this has to be taken up.

We are expecting Nigerians to be treated no differently from nationals of other countries all over the world. We are certain with the way German’s laws are constituted, this stands as a crime.


PT: Do you have confidence in the German police?

Tuggar. I am waiting to see what is going to happen. For us, this is a litmus test. I cannot sit here and vouch for the German police. I am still trying to understand how they work. This is the first time we are having this experience.

What I do know is that the German authorities are aware of IPOB, which is a proscribed terrorist organisation in Nigeria. They are aware that IPOB are registered here as an entity and, therefore, it is up to them to decide whether they should take action on such an entity that has registered here and begins to attack Nigerians on German soil. So, we wait to see.

PT: What do you want to tell IPOB?

We don’t believe the German authorities will take side with terrorists and therefore, we believe that based on the German laws and based on the good relationship between Nigeria and Germany since independence, this will come to a logical conclusion that will instil further confidence in Nigerians living in Germany and at home.

I will like to urge them (Nigerians) to continue their businesses peacefully and assure them that we have confidence in them.
