PoliticsRe: 2023: Igbo Leaders In Strong Push For Presidency by duwdu: 1:25pm On Oct 28, 2019
isthatso:
my friend look back in history, what you are talking about is what we had at independence, every region kept 50% of the income from its resources. The SE region then was in control on 50% of the revenue from Oil because at that time the oil producing areas of the SS were under Okpara and later Ojukwu as governors of the SE region. The Western region kept 50% of its cocoa and The north though lagging behing was making progress with 50% of it's its groundnut etc. everybody was making progress until the shortsightedness of your leaders shatterred everything.

Then the Ibo man came and 1) staged a coup and 2) tried to secede resulting in the civil war. It is because of those reckless actions and to checkmate the ibos that states were created and they carved out cross river and rivers states where the oil was, away from the control of the ibos.

Secondly it is because your actions brought in the military that they reduced derivation from 50% to 13% (it was actually lower at some point.

North did not have free oil money until you bleeped it all up and they tasted free money

The irony of the ibo man is that you threw everybody into chaos, stunted our collective growth, denied us of the resources from our own lands by your actions and now you are talking of devolution of power

we had devolution of powers before, your lust for power and greed bleeped it up!!!! the same shortsightedness your forefacthers displayed on in the '60s is what you are displaying now.

The whole reason for a presidential system of govt and creation of states was to weaken the ibos lust for power and starve them of resources, the horse has left the stable it can never be brought back in. You had it but blew it for everyone.

below is a historical chart of how much you kept from your resources so you can rue at your leisure the plight your fathers brought upon us all.
Hmm... heavier words had never been written.

Guy are you serious? Are you really pretending to not understand the concept of majority rules? Please tell me, what is the population of Nigeria minus the 4 MAJOR tribes?
I'm afraid you're just further hemming yourself in with your strange lines of argument. Are you saying the three major tribes should muzzle out numbers four-to-whatever? And what's the magic about the number three? Why not the four or five or six, eight largest tribes?

I honestly think everyone should just stop arrogating to themselves the ethnicity to get the country's top political jobs. What groups should learn to do very well, is form alliances. After all, where the voting numbers combine is where political power tilts.

PoliticsRe: Lawan Calls Gowon A Unique Nigerian Hero by duwdu:
t2luv1:
You are wrong. I guess it is true what they say until a lion has an history writer. the story of the hunt will always cast the hunter in good light. Ojukwu didn't set out to invade the Midwest. The man was just trying to do what he thought was in the best interest for his people. His people were getting slaughter in the North and the central government were not doing anything about it. If you call the January 1966 as a day of infamy what will you call all the subsequent coups. The five majors that carried out the January 1966 coup were not all from the East there were some people from the Western region that participate in the coup. It was just an easy narration to cast the coup as an Eastern coup. So let's just be clear.
I guess you've been spoiled by the mostly eastern narrative of the events of the war... that's one reason I can think of for you to characterize my writing as that by a "lion" from nowhere, for instance, whatever that means, lol.

And funny how you easily emotionalize the unprovoked military invasion of the then very peaceful Midwest region that was clearly unprepared for war, as essentially 'self defense' by Col. Ojukwu. Did he not so sow the wind? People such as yourself will always form ostrich, are in self denial, and never take responsibility for their actions; the fault is always that of the other side. Col. Ojukwu made a choice with his two eyes wide open and Nigeria as a whole paid dearly for it. Earlier, the January coup plotters had murdered, in cold blood, all the major and significant political and military leaders of all the three other regions and spared those of their own sole, smallest, predominantly Igbo-controlled region, and you have the effrontery to say it was not an Igbo coup?

Unfortunately for us all, those who had wanted to impose a Unitary form of government on the country (Gen. Aguiyi-Ironsi even ultimately proclaimed it!) because they thought they were not yet sufficiently or totally in charge but wanted to totally Lord it over and subjugate all regions (the purpose and goal of the infamy,) ended up costing the country dearly. They will never succeed - and will face greater disappointments - should they try it once more.

In the meantime, you can carry on with your 'in-the-end ill-fated' side of the narrative and hope you won't always encounter another 'strange lion' from nowhere, na you sabi. Be rest assured, though, that the fair narrative will always be held somewhere and prevail in the end; and all propaganda that took root in the unfortunate war and have been mixed with emotional bile that persist through these days, will not change a thing for the better. Such emotional bile will continue to burn bridges, in fact. Make of that what you may.

PoliticsRe: Lawan Calls Gowon A Unique Nigerian Hero by duwdu:
t2luv1:
Thank you. Exactly my opinion. Had he executed the Aburi accord the Eastern people wont have agitated for secession. Their people were getting killed in the North and he didnt do anything. That what the root caused of the war.
Please don't distort history. The root cause of the war was the January 15, 1966 coup - that was the day of infamy - and the gloating in the North, of all places, shortly after, by the easterners there on the streets, who were seen as the main beneficiaries and supporters of the coup, to begin with. It was extreme humiliation of the Arewa people by even the ordinary Igbo person there on the streets. For instance, they trampled on the photos of the Northern political and military leaders who were predominantly murdered during the coup, there on the streets of the North. (I was in Jos then.)

The main trigger of the actual war, was the invasion of the then Midwest region by Col. Ojukwu's ill-fated army, even before any shot was fired at the "rebellion from the Eastern region" by the Federal Government, or war declared. Simple.

Who says the man was illegally sacked? You? Or the PDP? A court of competent jurisdiction has to say so, otherwise people saying what you're claiming are just blowing hot air. Emotional statements in most cases don't connote common sense, actually.

There was nothing - and there's still nothing - in law that says the former Deputy Governor was not constitutionally removed. So, the PDP is just blowing hot air. You don't base your judgement on a panel report you can't even vouch for and you're not even a court of law, for Pete's sake.

The only thing that could have stopped the inauguration of the new Deputy Governor, would have been a valid court order served on the Oath-administering Judge/entity and saying the former DG was not constitutionally removed.

The Chief Judge had no choice on this occasion but to swear in the new DG..

APC already have Prof. Charles Soludo the Economist in their camp by virtue of recent appointment, while PDP has Peter Obi (the Chinese).

I like to see a national match-up by these two colossus.

Charles Soludo (APC) wielding the Broom against Peter Obi's Umbrella (PDP).

Whichever way it goes, either men can take Nigeria to greater height for the benefit of all.
Neither can win either as Prez or VP in a Presidential election involving other candidates from other zones. Sorry, it's not about flowery descriptions or characterizations. And politics in Nigeria is not necessarily about the economy or economics, and there are others from the other sections of the country who're even more eminently qualified in those and other fields of human endeavor.

Besides, and more seriously speaking, the APC is very unlikely to risk its next presidential election slot to the Southeast. And their reason will be simple: Just as it was in 2015, the numbers are just not there in the Southeast to give the party any fighting chance with either the Prez or VP slot. At least not in the current and still emerging dispensation where large-scale rigging is being largely curtailed/contained in a lot of places.

But hey, what do I know, right? wink

CrimeRe: Border Closure: Customs Seizes 1,072 Vehicles, 19,000 Bags Of Foreign Rice by duwdu: 9:28am On Oct 05, 2019
Pistotita:
I understand how you feel. But it is not just making a point for me. I did not insult anyone. I only pointed that they are gluttons. But that's the reality and the truth. A glutton is a glutton. No two ways about it.

When your own business is disturbed, I am sure you will include curses in your prayers, post, etc to anyone disturbing the man trying to rectify the situation. I am sure your business is not disturbed, and it is why you are a gentleman. I am a farmer, and the border closure has affected me positively.

These smugglers don't listen easily. They are goats that should be treated like goats. If you leave them, they will use social media to bend government. I have learned that the same way they attack the good people doing things rightly is the way to attack them. Defence is not the right strategy for these smugglers and gluttons.

I will insult anyone who tries to stop what Buhari is doing because I dont have N100 million to pay as ransom fee. So, anyone who wants to be treated well should check his or her fingers, and use his/her brain before typing stupi.dity here.

Oga, I'm still around to slam all these useless nairalanders criticising the closure of borders. We must stop them. Nairaland is read all over the world. What we say or type here go a long way. To heck with all of them.

How has being polite helped Nigeria? Is it not those foo.lish old leaders who demand respect that are stealing our future away. We need to start insulting all of them. They are the ones sponsoring smuggling too. And these fo.olish ones here are typing rubbish because of common rice? Dem swear for them? This same gentle way we achieved nothing in Nigeria cannot work. We must attack foo.lishness aggressively.

Just imagine how they are fighting over Tacha. And you say they should not be insulted? The same way they were shouting CeeC, Miracle etc last year. As they not already curs.ed?

Sowore is in prison, and go read useless comments. These are areas they should fight Buhari. And support him with borders. But now, everything is politics in Nigeria. On Sowore's case, he has done not well. And in many other areas. The way hes handling East West and South South, I dont support him. But on this border issue, I would have abused the Senate president if he had talked nonsense on this case. But my guy at the Senate sef understood the "gee". He stamped FG full support for closing borders.

Is ECOWAS that is begging us to open borders are deaf or dead? When we have been suffering the calamities of smugglers, what did it do? All the traders in foreign countries cursing Buhari are selfish. So, Buhari should support them while farmers are affected negatively here. Is Buhari their president that he has to care for them?

Have you ever seen where cattles and herdsmen run away from a crowd or fight? I saw it in idiroko border. grin Cattles took cover when they saw hundreds of m.ad bikers with 5 bags of rice each, on full speed. I ran for my life. They were blowing "horns", and believe me, just one mistake and a bike falls, all will be like formular1. Lol. They are all going down. For good 45 mins, they were on top speed. They font care who is on the road, if you font clear of, you are dead. If you have experienced this, you will curse all these gluttons saying rubbish here. So, you font know what you are saying sir. I apologize if you find it rude, but the truth must be told. The ones here shouting are either gluttons or smugglers. Shikena.

For once, let us support Buhari on this. For this one reason, Atiku is not coming anywhere. He should cum in his other room. Now I have a reason to say Buhari must stay. He is staying till 2023. Let Akitu go to the higher authority than Supreme court, Osinbajo will take over. He has already shown he has the balls to fire anybody if he has power. Let Atiku and his PDP useless people go to places. They want to just scatter Nigeria. If PDP is serious, is it Atiku they should field as their candidate? And that Reno Omokri will be shouting in his America. Did we not see how Jonathan messed all up? I would have supported PDP but they are not serious. They want to bring back a top ex border officer who we know who he is. Is this not part of the mess of the PDP candidate that Buhari is working on? If Atiku has the fear of God, he will know he messed up. So, he should return and dash us smuggled foreign rice while carrying out his evil plans. If Atiku did well while he was in office as the borders controller top man for many years, and as number 2 man for 8 years, will Buhari have the reason to close the borders now?

Let us think well in this country. What we put here goes a long way. It is social media we have to fight these useless lea.ders. And these gluttons who want foreign rice should to slammed.
I already gave a "Like" to this post within a few paragraphs into it and would give it a lot more "Likes" now that I've read through all of it, if more up votes by same member on one particular post were allowed.

And I've quoted it verbatim to enable me easy access to it as reference material from within my own account if necessary.

This is a slightly ignorant and myopic statement. Do you think those roads linking states are only on the outskirts? Some of them are major roads in busy towns that lead to other states so everyone in that city or town is affected when the roads are bad!

Secondly, there are large multitudes of Nigerians who depend on daily movement/transport whether from farms to markets or to deliver goods or even our petroleum products that tankers must haul across state lines! Why do you think there's always news of tankers falling over and causing explosions? When this critical infrastructure is bad, it affects the residents and citizens generally.
Keep weaving arguments. Imagine blaming tankers falling over on bad roads, instead of more on reckless, drunk, irresponsible driving and even unlicensed drivers and non-serviceable vehicles that are clearly not road-worthy or overloaded, just to mention a few?

And keep heaping all blames on Federal roads and neglecting state roads that are a lot, lot more in numbers and worse in their states of disrepair - even for the purpose of evacuation of farm produce from our hinterland. Learn to hold your local leaders and reps at the national level responsible for once. Start with what you can directly influence. Stop arrogating to yourself the monopoly of wisdom and profiling others as ignorant and myopic.

My two kobo.
