PoliticsRe: Controversial N4.5billion Yatch Hotel Disappears From Lagos. by eaglechild(op): 8:10pm On Apr 30, 2013
naptu2: The yacht has not carried out hotel business since 2009. Its license was revoked and the government was about to tow it out of Lagos in 2011 before the court order came. Which tax are you talking about? Which registration are you talking about?

By the way, the yacht was never on the Lagos Lagoon (it's too big to sail beneath the bridges), it was at Customs Quays.
And then it disappears one day and the state govt knows nothing about it.
PoliticsRe: Controversial N4.5billion Yatch Hotel Disappears From Lagos. by eaglechild(op): 7:34pm On Apr 30, 2013
And to think this cluless commissioner was appointed by and speaks on behalf of the "infalliable" Fashole is sickening.

eko ilee: And this means the boat is not a private property and the owners can not do what they want with their property?

I still need you to tell me who is in monitors Nigeria's territorial waters and who fights contraband and drugs.
No
It means that it pays its tax to Lagos state govt, and cannot berth in Lagos Lagoon without the knowledge an approval of the Lagos state govt an the relevant national parastatals.
Remember this is a hotel not a cargo ship.
Therefore it is utter failure for the Lagos state govt to say that a ship registered under it's agency as a hotel has disappeared without any trace and they know NOTHING about it.
PoliticsRe: Controversial N4.5billion Yatch Hotel Disappears From Lagos. by eaglechild(op): 7:14pm On Apr 30, 2013
eko ilee: Still, what's this got to do with you since this is clearly a private property?

And if the owners are into contraband, then its up to the people in charge of our territorial waters and drug enforcement to lose sleep over it.
It is a yatch hotel registered under Lagos state tourism board.

naptu2: Who is in charge of monitoring for illegal arms, contraband, etc?
A yatch hotel that is registered under the Lagos state tourism board and has been paying its taxes to that state govt just disappears into thin air, only for the commissioner for tourism to say he cannot categorically tell us when or where the hotel disappeared to?
This cannot happen anywhere else for very simple reasons, one of the most obvious is that the yatch hotel must be certified to have paid all its taxes before it is allowed to sail away.

Your long epistle simply states that hotels in Lagos are unjustly overtaxed by the Lagos state government.
The first stament in your epistle clearly states "at the federal tier of govt.... the Nigerian Tourism Development commission is in charge.
Lagos was the capital of the country, but no more so i dont get ur point.
PoliticsRe: Controversial N4.5billion Yatch Hotel Disappears From Lagos. by eaglechild(op): 5:56pm On Apr 30, 2013
naptu2: You still haven't answered my questions.

Now, if what you meant to ask is who issues hotels licenses to operate, then the. Answer is the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC). However, state and local governments also issue permits.

I have already stated on this thread that the Lagos State Government issued permits to the investors and that when ann argument arose amongst the investors, the Lagos State Government revoked the permits and wanted to tow the vessel out of Lagos. However, the investors got a court order which restrained the Lagos State Government from towing it out of Lagos.
Your answer is wrong.
It is the Lagos state tourism board.
Another question
Who is responsible for the taxing of the hotels in Lagos state?
PoliticsRe: Controversial N4.5billion Yatch Hotel Disappears From Lagos. by eaglechild(op): 5:28pm On Apr 30, 2013
naptu2: A few questions:

1) Is the Lagos State Government in charge of the Nigerian Customs Service?

2) Is the Lagos State Government in charge of the Nigerian Navy?

3) Is the Lagos State Government in charge of NIMASA?

4) Is the Lagos State Government in charge of NAFDAC, NDLEA and other such agencies?

5) How are you even sure that the vessel has left Nigerian waters?
Question

Who gives the go ahead for Hotel construction in Lagos state?
PoliticsRe: Controversial N4.5billion Yatch Hotel Disappears From Lagos. by eaglechild(op): 5:10pm On Apr 30, 2013
eko ilee: What is the meaning of that?

Even sef, what's your business or concern with other people's private property and what they do with their private property?
Don't be senseless
A ship is not a box of sweets.
A vessel like that is capable of smuggling contraband items including arms etc, so for you to label it private property and then deem it fit to come and go as it pleases is ridiculous!
Whenever it has to do with Lagos state you become blind to reality.

eko ilee: The boat was definitely a beautified addition to the lagos landscape, but the owners are free to do whatever they want with their boat.

I hope they took it for repairs and plan to return it to the same spot soon.
But this is an international ship in national waters.

It cannot just sail away like that without the state authorities at least knowing it's whereabouts.

Controversial N4.5billion Yatch Hotel Disappears From Lagos

The controversial N4.5 billion Sunborn Yacht Hotel, brought from England and moored on the Lagos waters for over four years, has finally disappeared from the state after the controversies surrounding its ownership.

It will be recalled that the custom built yacht, with 102 elegant suites, arrived the Lagos waters in November 2008  and instantly became a cynosure of all eyes.

The yacht, expected to serve as a four_star hotel, was, however , bedeviled by controversies since its arrival which led to it abandonment and subsequent rusting away on the water-ways.

When Vanguard visited the quay, by the Army Officers’ Mess at Marina, Lagos Island Local Government Area, there was no sign that such expensive and eye catching structure ever berthed there.

Enquiries from the state government and even residents of the state yielded no result as no one could  say specifically what happened to the multi_purpose built yacht that moored on the state water for over four years.Commissioner for Tourism, Mr. Oladisun Holloway, when asked to comment on the development denied the state government’s knowledge of the where about of the supposed ‘first African luxury hotel on water’.

According to Holloway; “As citizens of the state can’t find it, so is the state government also. The government can’t say precisely where the Yacht is berthed at present.”

The commissioner reiterated that “the state government doesn’t have any commitment in the yacht. And I don’t know why the residents of the state should be interested in whereabouts of the Sunborn yacht.

The four-star hotel, originally owned by the City of London, was conceptualised as a leisure and  business centre to service the higher echelon of Lagos society. Mr. John Smart, a boat operator, said he could not say accurately the whereabouts of the four_storey multi_purpose built yacht, since removal last month.

According to Smart; “I cannot say the date when it was removed but all we saw on one fateful day was a large number of people who crowded the Sunborn Yacht and towed it away with another ship.  They didn’t inform anyone where they will be taking the yacht to and since then we were yet to see it.”

So, the question on the lips of residents and concerned citizens which has remained unresolved is; “where is the Sunborn Yacht Hotel and who is behind the deal”. Time will tell.
