@Easimoni, I hope you didn't get caught napping in the Standard Alliance TS. smiley My broker told me about the impending TS and I shared it on the forum some days ago.
Never owned it. Just pointing out that it makes 2 Insurance companies in 2 days going on TS.

Standard Alliance is on TS, Lasaco lists 7B new shares and some peeps bought 170M units of Soveriegn Trust today!  shocked Insurance is a minefield. I'm out. tongue

Yeah if that is true that will not help the share price at all. This is one of the life-long stocks in my portfolio. The question for me is do i want to be left holding a stock priced N80? that's assuming they do a 2:1 reverse split
It's a case of pick your poison; do you want a stock with a high nominal price or a stock with 20B shares. I prefer the high nominal price. I believe as the market gets more sophisticated, people will see that the cake does not get bigger as you cut it into more pieces (borrowing Wanaj0 phrase). They should all reverse split jo! The march to the 100s is inevitable. grin

Who mentioned University of Suya PP, make una no kill person oh grin grin grin

I believe no need to continue updating spreadsheets to load into APTISTOCK with the new deluxe tool on nigeriansecurities website. Data for up to 2 years, thats wicked.
The University of Suya PP will be followed by an "Easimoni PLC PP". All oversubscription will be accommodated. No monies will be returned. grin tongue

My only fear with nigeriansecurities is that they'll one day ask us to pay for the services.
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by easimoni(m): 11:57pm On Jan 25, 2008
My guess is that UBA's 3B new shares is to give them room, not for a PO, but for a bonus. Now they can do a 1-for-6 at the next FY. even though UBA has the lowest forward PE, it has the highest NOMINAL price in the sector. A bonus can correct that. Having a high nominal price drives away some investors.

@ Wendy,
so what do you have as the # of outstanding shares? I (and the NSE website) have 133M. Just noticed a surge in the # of shares being traded on this stock. Could it be the people who benefited from the rights?

My Friend is currently on the verge of getting a 40m loan from a Naija bank for a period of 6 months for a 21% interest rate and he want to invest all in NSE. He is thinking of investing 80% of that in the inssurance  sector and 20% in the bank sector. Am afraid because the amount is huge. could FO2,Pumping,wendy and  others suggest the stocks he will likely make like 100% in the next 6 months for him.

God Bless you all ! and may the sick by whole again. Amen.
su amigo tiene hígado grande or is it "cojones grande" What collateral is he offering the bank?

Anyway, tell him to stay away from Ins coys, half of them will be on TS sometime this year; disaster for a short-termer. If I knew of any stocks that must make 100% in 6 months, I'll be the one taking the loan and not your friend  grin Tell him to buy UBA and Oceanic. I'm pretty sure they'll beat the 21% interest he is being charged. However, 40-50% is the best (realistically) he should hope for. I hope he is not prone to high BP O! This is not a small bet.

Did you go through the import process? You can't just copy the NNSE.csv file, you have to import it use the Aptistock data downloader. Message #3 on this thread describes how to import the CSV file into Aptistock. Have u done that? If you have respond and I'll think of something else

Hello House,

Would like to buy some stocks from the floor, someone suggested that i invest in the insurance sector, precisely Lasaco and staco, I sincerely need your advice, whether these are good stocks, if not,,,which do i get.

please i need it urgently before i use the money 4 something else.
Standard Alliance looks good. Staco and Lasaco have high RSIs (good chance they'll drop next week) but are otherwise solid INS buys. R u sure about Ins though? Custodian is on TS and I'm sure a dozen more will join by mid-year. 15% of my folio is on TS,  cry I'm not taking the risk of adding more

@ All, I checked nsepro.com , Zenith Securities and my FSDH daily report. All have diff sets of closing prices. If u look at UBA, u'll see that the # of deals (and volumes) increases as you cycle thru nsepro, FSDH and ZSL in that order. It seems the previous 2 rushed reports to clients and did not capture the final few deals that ZSL did. Which brings me to my question; isn't there a daily official list from which all floor members extract the final numbers that we see? Is there no way for the NSE to ensure uniformity of numbers?

Nope, don't think there is much fuel left in the tank. Try UBA and Ikeja Hotels instead.

Mr Easi,

Where do u get your information from relating to up - to date number of shares outstanding and past PAT/PBT?
I do a lot of scavenging. In the case of Ikeja Hotels, the PAT and outstanding shares (B4 the 2006 PO) were obtained from the prospectus (still on the Ikeja Hotels website) , the SEC website provided info on how many shares were actually sold during the PO. Add the two together and chikena!
@easimoni, wanajo, pumping, would you consider Ikeja hotels a buy at its above figures and current price?
I bought ~ N4 in Nov so I'm solid. My only grouse is that they appear to have "lost" money in the 4Q of 2006 (the 3Q was higher than the FY PAT), I'm hoping that does not happen this (past) FY. The stock seems to be catching-on  in nairaland. Hope the deep pockets create a good exit point for me. tongue But to answer your question, yes it appears to be a solid buy with a 2007 FY PE of 12.5

kevyngbash:
easi, pumping, roughy, abeg how first bank and ikeja hotel. are the current prices right for entry?
I'm not a First Bank fan, just never liked the stock. The 9 month result is due (max) by val's day. May be enough to give the stock a much needed boost (apart from the Post-TS run, the stock has traded v v flat the last 12 months).

WAAP is West Africa Aluminium Products PLC. It's a 2nd tier company so I have no more info to share w/ u.

Blood on the Insurance dance floor today. I hope most of the CICOers got out last week. No news expected for 3 months. I suspect there'll be a bearish run on Ins Coys for quite a couple of weeks at least.

That report is 88 pages! what time you get to read am and more importantly what time do you get to sleep?

Keeping up with nairaland is a job on its own and coupled with some other things. Abeg just give us the koko in one or two paragarphs jare grin grin grin grin
It's really much shorter than that. Lots of charts and tables at the end. The koko is; they expect M&As as the banks struggle for #1; the mid-tiers will not catch up to the top-tiers despite the impressive run of late; they are all looking for ways to hand out consumer loans; they all have the same strategies for growth.

As Wanaj0 said, the number have changed a little but it makes for good reading. Small yabis dey for Aig and Access bank too. Read in-between the lines. grin tongue

BTW, have you all downloaded  and read the Afrinvest report on the banking sector in Nigeria? A very detailed, well written and aesthetically pleasing report. Some analysts are really earning their money. Anyway, the report is very bullish on Union bank and claims they are in some sort of PP mode to raise 180B.  shocked  shocked  shocked Anyone with more concrete gist? Some yabis for GTBank and Wema Bank was not even mentioned as a mid-tier bank. Good report. Read it!

FCMB's forecast PAT according to their prospectus was 16 billion , so i would regard that 10 billion PAT as being too conservative.

Pumping! You're no longer an fundamentalist? huh Afribank has 11.13B shares (assuming the PO will be 125% alloted) and a projected PAT of 11B, giving a forward PE of 27+. I know CICO is sweet but I wouldn't apply it to the more expensive stocks. Too much downside in Afribank for me.

@ Invisible, are you using Zenith? They've been having that problem for weeks now. Software must be screwy!

They will def charge you OD on your account and maybe interest as well. You can call the RM or his manager and rake! Complain that the purchase be reversed at no cost to you. Or (if you want to keep the stocks) tell them you'll pay the debit when/how you choose and they MUST NOT charge you OD/interest on your debit.
