help me:
@kevyngbash
The price was even above N40.50,it was N40.90(last friday) on NSE,she was telling me the stock is still on pending, and the price have dropped to 39.55 today.I gave her a mandate of N40.50, because i don't know before the NSE lift it from pending, may be na N30.Help me the gurus.
Leave the NSE out of it, they've done nothing to your shares. The NSE did not put your stock on "pending", your broker has been unable to sell, hence your sell instruction is "pending" execution. Capisce? If you want to sell immediately, give your broker permission to sell "without limits". I'd generally advise against such, but you sound desperate.
@drdaniel, what has cote d ivoire beating us got to do with the price of first bank? or will the eagles loss stop me from getting another 5% from japaul oil tomorrow?
Leave drdaniel o! Some of us (in diaspora) have no way to watch the match. Thanks for the newsflash.

LoanBroker:
@All especially Easimoni and Pumping777, I don't understand the offer/bid figures. How does it help me in selecting stocks?
High bid figure means there are a lot of people waiting to buy. Means the price is likely to head north until the demand is satisfied. The bid/offer will have to be high relative to the daily volume for it to make a difference.

For example, if a stock has a net bid of 10M but trades 1M daily, it'll take ten days to satisfy the demand. Means the price should rise for ten straight days. By the time the price rises for 3 days, some people will renege on the buy order and walk away, some people will see the 3 days of gains as an opportunity to sell. By the 4th day, the price'll start to drop as they'll ge into a net offer position.

Use it a short-term indicator, it has no use outside 1 or 2 days.
@blest, are you saying Nigerian are good at reading books? I have just decided to abandon my almost completed manuscript for a book I have been writing (now 130 pages)
My reason is that all around me, none of my friends have read a complete book despite my prodding. Everybody borrows my films but nobody has ever asked to také my books!
Everybody will like me to tell them of my trading strategies, but when I give them book references for further reading, they get up and say bye.
Even the internet, they never browse pages like nairaland, they prefare colored pages with more graphics than letters.
I better leave my money alone, rather than using it to publish a book that will gather dust on some book stand, with nobody to read them.
I also started to write one but I got tired of typing. PLus there are so many great books and websites already that I know laziness is the only reason why people can't understand what's going on. Enough time to watch "E!" or "BBA" but not enough to learn where/why to invest. If anyone want's to write a book on the NSE, I can dash you my few pages for free - or maybe I'll just resume writing it when I have free time.

Quick math on Tantalizers' PP; post-PP shares will be 1,287M shares. If you assume PAT went up 50% in 2007, 07 FY PAT will be ~N200M, which yields a trailing EPS/PE of 16k/32.

Chams is cheaper by an order of magnitude. Fashi this one. sad

My UBA buy order (buying with all my might and strength  grin) was only 50% executed yesterday. Might have been related. Lead is full of excuses sha! Speaking of overbought/oversold; Oceanic is soooooo oversold at the moment. 9 day RSI is ~ 11. Dunno if they've "finished paying for the PO sins" but the forward PE (~17) and low RSI show that this is a good stock and a good time to buy. I'm into UBA though, just thot I'd point out the Oceanic numbers.

When did u buy your Diamond? I got mine in Dec for 18.60 and with reduced (thank u Fo2) commission I'm up only 21%. Set N24.50 as my exit. Hope it gets there tomorrow.

Or do we wait for the 9 month result expected within 6-8 weeks

Nice to hear that Lead's performance is improving. My account officer is back so I'm back in the game. They threw me a curve ball yesterday; charged me OD becos they couldn't execute a sell order which would have put me in the black. I just dey look them.

I'm getting out of Law Union. No more "news" expected for 5 months as we await the FY 2007 and 1Q08. I don't expect any sustained bull run in the absence of any news (true for the Ins industry in general). I predict LUR will drop N1 (to ~N4.80) within the next 2 months and I'll get back in. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Please all the gurus online ,kindly advise me as to how trading goes on even with a technical suspension on a stock because i have seen it happen several times and i wonder what shares are being sold since there is a technical suspension
Shares on FULL SUPSENSION cannot be bought/sold. Shares on Technical Suspension can be bought/sold. Question is; would you buy a stock knowing the price is frozen and you can't make money unitl the suspension is lifted? Most people would stay away from a stock on TS unless they know there is a shift in fundamentals (e.g PHB in the last 2 weeks).

Trading is done like any other stock; find someone who wishes to sell/buy, shake hands and exchange money/share certifcates!

@ Wendy,
Ikeja Hotels looks cheap at the current price. 2 things that bother me:the 9 months for 2006 was higher than the FY for 2006. Looks like they "lost" money in the last 3 months of 2006 (I thought the last 3 months was when Hotels made most of their money). Also, the PAT growth rate is in the teens. The 06 prospectus is still on the website if you wish to read it.

Yes! GO PATRIOTS!!! but wait oh, i thought you were a colts hommie? cheesy cheesy

Look at the A-section of the WSJ, front page -- nothing to do with naija stockmarket though . . .
I AM a colts fan (really a Tony Dungy fan) but, unlike most sports fans, I'm always quick to congratulate a winner. And that's the best team in any sport I've ever seen.

Read the John Paulson article. At least someone was smart about the whole subprime thing. I've got my own subprime stories (the wife almost bought a 2nd home as an investment a couple of yrs ago, had to pull the "husband" card and veto the purchase, Thank God! Empty lots left, right and center). My current estate is also half-empty. Kinda has me worried about having to sell when it's time to move back to naija. Shame.

Anyway, back to the lecture at hand!

But UBA is not merging with the bank, it is simply buying its assets. It should have no effect on the # of shares

Well. Looking on the bright side. Even if UBA lists the entire 15B shares, the forward PE is still around 20 (but add another 5 for the risk of the cowboy CEO grin grin) making 25.
PO in consecutive years? Don't think UBA will attempt it. They could simply be making space in the authorized share capital for a 1-for-4 bonus. After all, the nominal price is the highest in the industry (not that that means anything to me, I'm concentrating my portfolio ASAP).

This did not show up on my FSDH report. Thot you all might want to know. I guess Wanaj0 has been warning us regarding Ins coys that merged or sold to private equity concerns. I'm sure more of this will follow in that sector. Cornerstone shares now up to 9.56B
