@ yodiyokum, Bank PHB has 8B shares (including the bonus that closed yesterday). Very solid outlook. Looks like they are setting us up for a PO. The forward PE (15) is now the lowest in the banking sector.
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by easimoni(m): 2:11pm On Oct 10, 2007
@ Wanaj0,
WAPIC has 4.2B shares and Crusader appears to be the pick of the insurance companies. I disagree with your notion of 20 being to high a PE for insurance companies. Sure they are not as solid as banks but the growth rate in that industry in phenomenal! If anything, they should be selling at a higher premium. But you are right in saying it's murky waters. I still can't trace the full pic of outstanding shares for most companies.

which 5 stocks below N4 will u reccomend for an immediate buy. Please all reply before i make any decison
There is no reason to believe that stocks below N4 will present the best opportunities. The only stock in my portfolio below your cut-off is Mutual Benefits Assurance

BTW, no need to post your question on both threads. It only makes things harder to follow.

Is livestock feeds, mbenefit and dunlop a good buy and why
All views welcomed
MBenefit YES, Livestock and Dunlop, NO.

Livestock and Dunlop are struggling to turn around and begin delivering profits. You can buy either one if you have a couple of yrs to wait. Dunlop is scheduled to be back in the black sometime in 2008. I plan on buying if/when that happens. Don't know much about Livestock.

Mbenefit is a sound insurance co. Should do well.

@ easimoni

What do you think will be the unit price of Japual shares in 1 years time? Can you please, give more info about NGC as opposed to Japaul? Thanks.
A year from now Japaul should be between N6-8. Good enough for those who buy the PO.

I prefer NGC because I don't do POs and NGC on the open market is a better buy than Japaul. That said, the main reason I prefer NGC is because Japaul is doubling it's outstanding shares via this PO. More mouths to feed.

did anyone notice that access didnt gain 5% today. that was really quick. is the momentum done alreadyhuh??
I hope not. But if it is done, it will return sooner rather than later.

thats been the trend for the past five years according to cashcraft. their Q4 profit always seems to account for more than 70% of its entire revenue. maybe their jobs are seasonal. will look into it but i think it may be good to wait for half year results for this current year.
Okay then!

BTW I have the half yr;

LONGMAN NIGERIA PLC 6 mths, June 2007
Turnover 664.60 570.00 16.6%
PBT 30.70 25.80 19.0%
Tax 9.80 8.20 19.5%
PAT 20.80 17.50 18.9%

Normally I charge, but because na you wink

Crusader is a strong buy.

@ easimoni, your fsdh report was accurate. university press did a rights issue of 1 for 1. so it doubled their shares outstanding and the trailing eps stands at 0.364. its trailing pe is now 17. still not bad. however, i took a look at longmans figures(in the same sector) and its solid as a rock!!! trailing eps of 1.23 which gives it a current pe of 10. i checked the sec link you gave me and they have not had any offer or rights recently. looks like a good one.
I  looked at my Longman results. In 2006, the FY PAT was N204M. In the 1st 6 months of 2007, it's been only N21M but that's higher than the 1st 6 months of 2006 (17.5M). It seems Longman made 91+% of it's profits in the last 6 months of the yr and has to do the same thing to match last yrs results. I suggest you try to find last yr's financials to see if there was some EI that was added to PAT in the 3  or 4Q last yr. Maybe there was and people have discounted the price because of it.

I know it seems we throw stones at any good idea (I certainly feel that way), but it prevents us from making huge mistakes that would seem obvious in hindsight. Let me know what you think/find.

I would expects sec's rule not to be backdated to include oceanic and co who had their offers way before the rule came into place
The SEC stated the rule had always been there. They chose to "re-emphasize" it a couple of weeks ago. I wonder when they'll actually start to apply it.

Anyway, if they keep all of the proceeds, we are looking at a total of 22.2B shares and a forward PE of 40.

Is the SEC going to allow them to keep all of the extra N125B? I thought they said 25% oversubscription only.

Hulla,
Can someone tell me what it entails to personally manage my portfolio with a stock brokering firm.
Upon setting up my portfolio with my stock broker, does it mean I can buy say penny stocks and sell
the following month?
Waiting for reply from the gurus please.
Most brokers will accept communication by email so you can issue your penny stocks instructions daily if you wish. But then, why would buy a stock with a view to sell the following month. regardless of the instant millionaire stories out there, the market is for long-term investor. And why penny stocks?

Temmie10 iasked this earlier could you please help me out, good you dropped by
To All Gurus,
Please could you all advise me on this, amongst all the stocks i have the only one that has appreciated is NGC i bought for 13.50, why i am saying this is that i need to buy Japaul and don't have cash at hand, is it advisable to sell part of my NGC to purchase Japaul

Secondly i have about 5000 units of Fidelity do i sell and purchase the PO that is now on?
I think you should do that so that you can take the profit on it.

thanks in advance
Don't sell NGC and don't buy Japaul. NGC has fundamentals FAR superior to Japaul's forecast. Don't do it.

Sell your Fidelity though I suspect you won't be able to since it's on net offer on the floor. If you can, do it. But don't buy the PO with the proceeds. The PO is one of the worst I've seen since I started investing. Get some Crusader Ins or more NGC.

When I put a price that is in the lower range , they wont get the stock then

Anyway make we siddon look.
No be wayo! They bought mine lower than the closing price. Sometimes you win, sometimes you pay a lil more than u should. I've had it go both ways several times. I've been happy when they sold for me at the day's high and benn miffed when they also bough at the day's high. Can't win them all but I don't suspect wayo with Lead, not for a second.

@ easimoni, getting scared of wema myself. the news of beef aint too nice. will hold on till december sha.
been doing some research on university press, their trailing eps is 0.72. fantastic for a stock thats trading at 6 naira. however wanajo, said they had a rights issue but ive bin unable to find the details. looks like a stock worth watching.
University Press did a rights issue early 07. Look for #39

http://www.sec.gov.ng/Newissues.htm

FSDH calculate the trailing EPS as 0.37 so there's a disconnect there. Add the rights issue to the outstanding shares you have and see if that aligns u with FSDH. Check out the Meristem s.sheet as well and look for the true picture.

Nope, I am sure they did not buy it
Because if they did I would have been notified by now,

My account officer told me their systems have been down.

Lets see what else he has to say for himself- you got the crusader at a good price
I just got a new account officer. My old one just left. Maybe you should ask for a new one. Mine's Gloria Ogufere. So far so good. Much more responsive than the old guy.

And yes the price was good. Maybe she'll bring me luck too!

@ Jboo0,
UBA making N5B a month? Fa fa fa fowl! Na yam? Maybe turnover but not profits!

But to answer your questions, there will be a TON of profit taking as soon as people get their certificates. You can expect both stocks to take a hit as soon as the certs are released. People will be happy they got more than expected only so that they can take more profit than expected. Once certs are released, there is ALWAYS downward pressure on the stock.

@easimoni,

When do you get your buy confirmation from Leadbank - I know its an automated system that emails you with the trade but I am not sure when exactly!.

I haven't seen anything on my account for Costain and its already 6.30 pm for Naija? I don't want to jump into conclusions yet but it seems they no get the stock to buy and my account officer is presently out of reach!.
I typically get an email about 2PM Lagos time the day of the trade. So as we speak, I dunno if they bought my Crusader and NGC today. If I don't get a confirmation in 6 hours, I'll resend the instructions then pray they don't buy it twice.

Well a Public Offer will definitely dilute the value but it may still be a lot better than some of the Banks - lets wait and see.

The problem with buying be say the number of shares is too small. Less than 70K exchanged hands today when other stocks where doing hundreds of thousands to millions.
Yes, it's not a very liquid company. You may need a few days to get 100k shares. Hurry before Shigidi & Tmoni get there! grin cheesy Una hold well well o! I want to be like you when I grow up

A lot is riding on WEMA for you but i'm sure the results would not be disappointing as a minimum i'm expecting them to double the PAT from N2.2B for YEnd Mar 31 2006 to ~N4B for YEnd Mar 31 2007.
The scarcely seen 1Q to June 06 shows a PAT of N1.7B. That projects to almost N7B. I'm expecting anything from 5-6B. But the band is really N4-8B. We shall see.
