shigidi:Most of these mags/newspapers have questionable (at best) calculations of the indices. Sov Trust had N222M 6 months and currently have 2.243B shares = 9.9k EPS (half-yr). If you include the 1.265B shares alloted but not yet listed, you can project to a FY EPS = 12.7K. Sorry Shig, I don't see N5.5. Crusader, Niger and Standard Alliance top my list of Ins. companies based solely on forward PEs |
@ poster, having a 15-yr plan does not mean you plan on staying for 15 years. It simply means some plans take that long to implement. |
wanaj0:I actually owned this stock sometime last year. Sold it when the 6 mon to June 06 showed declining profits. They've turned it around since then. When I say "short-term", I mean at least until they release the FY which should be ~ March 08. The fundamentals look solid for the long-term as well. |
Tmoni:A N2-3 appreciation is too close to call. Right now, it's all about NGC. Short- and long-term. |
enurayce:Still waiting to see a prospectus/analyst report before making a comment |
@ kpenio, your comments about the Dangote Flour IPO are very astute. There won't be enough for you and I and a buyer will end up with a portion of his payment being returned months after. I'll pass. |
steeviee:There is an article on the Proshare website confirming that refunds are being made. You have to be a registered user to view that article. |
If you don't like 24, you don't know Jack! |
Shig, the GDRs have underlying shares which you rightly included in your calculations. Those shares/GDRs will be paid a dividend out the earnings, just like you and I would. Just think of the GDRs as a basket of 50 shares you can buy/sell on the LSE. + the owners are free to convert one GDR into 50 shares (to trade on the NSE) on any given day. And you are right, GTB is now a hold (at best). In fact, I just sold mine. |

Temmie, you don reach here? |
Why are you guys like criticizing pidgin English? Isn't it like the greatest language in like the whooooole world? I hope you guys can like see that pidgin is great for like lay conversation and stuff but has no place in like a formal environment. That is how my young American colleagues assault the English language on a daily basis. Check out this link. Proof that English is in danger the world over! It's a smart, pretty, young American beauty pageant contestant attempting to answer a simple question. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww |
whitelexi:GTB has declared just one bonus and it was a 1-for-4 after the Feb 2007 results. |
@ Stanchuks, no need to post on both threads. your question's been answered on the other thread. |
To the guys who asked about NGC, do not sell! IBTC's forecast is conservative and I expect NGC should be at N30 within a year. I wouldn't sell it, not even to buy Dangote flour or Japaul. Besides, both POs are bound to be oversubscribed and some of your money may be returned to you. Planning on buying some NGC myself. |
@ Tmoni, looks like Sterling made almost N5B in the past but lost it due to merger shenanigans. Could be a good deal for you. http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/business/article02 |
kingzy:Na yam? No bonus until your shares are listed. In reality, you are not yet a shareholder! BTW, that bonus closed back in Jan 07. PO came out after that. |
Seun:If anything, Oprah's mansions would be even greater liabilities than anything Dangote owns. |
All this beef! Contrary to mr Kiyosaki's rich dad, poor dad ramblings, cars and houses are assets as long as they are helping your business generate money. have you even seen Oprah's houses? And if you understood anything about companies, you'd know that there are several scenarios where it's better to borrow money than sell equity. Every company has debt even Oprah's. And what the Dangote-haters clearly don't understand is that a corrupt capitalist is much better option than having the (even more corrupt) govt engaged in private enterprise. What heritage did he buy and why didn't you bid when he bought it? If the govt could run it's business, why would they sell it? Since we refused to let him but the refineries, we are condemned to continue to import refined products fro the forseeable future. Can NNPC suddenly run a refinery (after decades of futility)? And as a xtian, I find it quite sickening that people keep pointing to the "good works" of Oprah? Doesn't your bible (or Koran) forbid you from publicising your charity? What if Aliko has given away fortunes with the media's knowledge. Oprah has her reward already. Don't criticize someone for a lack of giving when you have no idea what the person is doing behind closed doors. |
DO NOT SELL YOUR WEMA! And be prepared to wait to watch your investments mature. The market is not about doubling money every 4 months. If you can't watch your stocks decline 20-30% after you buy them, the stock market is not for you. A minimum window of 1 year is required to guarantee the proper return on a sound stock. |
Yes, the bank management wants to (and should) keep only N150B. I'm surprised the shareholders wanted more. I think they've heard about Zenith's N250B offer and don't want to be "left behind". Dunno why the market is responding postively to the merger news. Generally, both sets of shareholders don't benefit equally and the merger details are not clear/available. |
Temmie10:A market cap of $60B by 2010 means each of the 21.5B shares would have to be worth N350 by then. Even half of that is N180. Even though we should make investment decisions largely on an analysis of a company's past performance (of which Transcorp has none), the growth potential of this company is so large, it might be worth putting 10% of your portfolio in it just to see where this could all go. The current market cap of this company is only ~N200B (and dropping). But surely the assets are comparable in value if not more. A GSM license is worth, what, 40B? bottom line is they'll likely make a loss in the next fiscal year, but after my other stocks mature, I'll definitely give Trashcorp, I mean Transcorp, a look. Contrarian investments have been known to work. |
Interesting news; Japaul has now turned into a net bid on the floor. Most likely prompted by the latest results. The PO is now looking better. At least you know there is a demand for the stock. http://proshareng.com/myproshare/portal_news.php?id=2825 |
The suspension was lifted today and it dropped the expected 5%. Expect the 5% daily drop to continue for at least another week. The people who bought pre-IPO will be dumping. Let's see one interim result and maybe I'll get in below N5. |
First Bank shareholders want the bank to keep the full N500B. Do they realize what that'll do to the stock price? http://proshareng.com/myproshare/portal_news.php?id=2829 Looks like the Ecobank merger is still on. |
Wendy, congrats! |
askance, on the NSE website, some alloted shares are already listed so you can't add them again. e.g Cornerstone. But it is a mess and some of my numbers are based of MD speeches and the like. The whole sector is a mess. |
askance, of the insurance companies you quoted, here are the ones I have info about. Company Shares (B) Cornerstone 5.06 crusader 3.256 wapic 4.23 niger ins 3.951 unic 2.582 prestige 1.72 law union 3.074 lasaco 7.407 |
netotse:The primary market is public offers, initial public offers, rights issues, private placements and the like. the secondary market is the buying and selling on the floor of the exchange. |
Temmie, muchas gracias! |
@ Shigidi, I meant I'm not buying any banks till further notice. don't worry I'm not selling Wema just yet |
Okiki, I've noticed this trend with several companies where the FY results don't trend well with Q1,2 or 3. Might be because FY is audited and companies might be unsure about what they can or cannot add as earnings until the auditors clarify at FY. It may also be due to exceptional items. Maybe the accountants and analysts amongst us can throw light on this. |
