techwaya:You started well and ended abysmally. Which useless IPOB are you giving thanks too? Check up Nairaland and you’ll see the efforts notable Igbo put into that awareness right from 2007. You people should be careful how you hype that demonic political group that plans to make all efforts worst than they met it. Instead of you to ask question and be enlightened you are giving glory to a scammer who only bask in the euphoria to gain followers. How old are you if I may ask? And what is your academic status. I might forgive you if you are an illiterate, but a graduate should stop being spoon fed by things he ears. The same way you watched YouTube videos to ascertain the truth, is the same way you should make your research to know your ethnic group. Are you aware that Chinua Achebe talked about the Bonny/Opobo people in his Things Fall Apart, where they used Ikem for me but to the Umuofians it sounded like Bottom. Keep time to educate yourself as no one will do it for you. |
APCHaram:Omo I keep wondering why you always link Igbos to this your Jewish conspiracy. Imagine you opened a thread about China and instead of hitting at the topic you rush to talk about us. So what's your obsession with Ndigbo Bishop? |
JordanMichael:Are you a stakeholder in the both parties? Please allow the politicians do their thing. |
APCHaram:Bishopmagic the Izon clown. Hope you've taken your medicine today. |
Coronavirus1:When did a man from Ogbia tribe Bayelsa became Igbo? |
EmekaA125:Rants of one who was scammed by the IPOB. If you focus your strength on selling the Igbo Presidency to the PDP a lot will be achieved. But rather you focus on IPOB and Nnamdi Kanu. Where is the promised Biafra? Suspended till 2090 I guess. ![]() Rather than challenge Peter Obi, Anyim, Ekweremadu, Okezie, Ugwuanyi and Theodore Orji and others to fight for the ticket you are hitting at Umahi. Lol. Who is fooling who. Does north becoming President favour you? Simps. I dey shame for una, traders who should have allowed erudite Igbo lead them are now the fire of Igbo political ascendency. This is where we lost it politically. This is the result of years of allowing the wrong leaders and uneducated support base lead Igbos. Zik will be turning in his grave. |
JordanMichael:But slavery in PDP is cool right. Ask PDP for your ticket and be bold as men. Where's Peter Obi the weakling when you need him, I guess he's begging Wike to cede him the VP slot. |
onuman:Let's remove sentiments, the other guy has a point. As far as the APC is concerned Okorocha has more chance to the ticket than Umahi. Okorocha was there from the foundation. Saw the light early enough, tried to convince other Igbo Governor's and left with his APGA faction to create the new party. Amaechi joined later from the PDP and was influential. Ogbonnaya Onu is also there if we consider his inputs from the ANPP faction but dude was too docile then and even now that Ebonyi his state was left in the control of Anyim and Egwu in the PDP. Amaechi seems much higher in the echelon than Umahi that's if he's allowed to fly the ticket on behalf of Ndigbo. Umahi can only get the ticket if Buhari is considerate about him or if he works with both Rochas and Amaechi. But at the moment the APC if they want to give Ndigbo the ticket is rested on Rochas and Amaechi. Buhari on the other hand might root for any of the above if they stake their claim based on loyalty and contributions to the party, or the likes of Umahi or Emeka Nwajiuba another dude I see as the dark horse. Emeka Nwajiuba coincidentally is from Imo, a state that has supported the APC despite IPOB/PDP campaign of calumny. Nwajiuba has been with Buhari since ANPP and CPC. Truth be told IPOB goons and her support base in Abia, Enugu, Anambra slating Umahi should ask PDP for their ticket. You can't eat your cake and have it. If these groups are not shameless they should accept their slavery status in the PDP in good faith. Politics is being strategic and not acting stupid |
onuman:True |
Allen102:Lol!. It takes a thief to know a thief right? I'm not even Etche . A true Rivers man is hardly cajoled to deny his village something you don't have in you.Well, I wasn't born in P/H that's why my orientation is Igbophilic. All my siblings have the same orientation. I'm Lagosian by birth hope you see the difference. |
Allen102:Rivers state is a home for all. Everyone born in P/H now claim Rivers so everything goes. You might be from Rivers state, that is possible and you might be from Bayelsa. |
BlackSaints:Asari was empowered by Obasanjo not Odili. For Ateke Tom, Odili used him same as Soboma George. Men like Sekibo too was instrumental to the rise of Ateke. |
Allen102:You can ask Odili who used Igbo votes to remain in power. And the Ikwerre beginning from Rotimi Amaechi learnt from him. Dakuku Peterside though genuine almost applied the same tactics but his association with APC in 2015 didn't win the heart of IPOB who were instrumental to Wike's emergence. So nothing like imported votes. If you must win election into the Brick house you must seek votes from the non-indigenes mostly those from Imo and Abia who populate Rivers state. So not yet Uhuru for PDP as Wike through his Oyigbo act have severed ties with IPOB his benefactor. As it stands if Dakuku Peterside or Tonye Cole emerges as APC flagbearer they'll emerge victorious. For Tacha, her non-challant attitude made her lose BBN to Mercy. Her pride made her lose her support base to Mercy who was strategic till the end. |
BlackSaints:Pushing the buck. Odili never claimed to be Igbo. If Odili in the height of his political ascendency didn't claim Igbo is it now he will? Second, Peter Odili was the political son of Ada George the Okrika man who institutionalized cultism in Okrikaland. Don't forget Odili was his deputy in 1992. When Melford Okilo was Governor in 1979-1983 there was nothing like cultism. Ada George brought it. And it was from Okrika land that cultism was exported to other parts of Rivers state. |
Allen102:Crap! Rants from a Bayelsa asylum seeker in P/H. So who supported the Kalabari for Governor if not an Ikwerre man. Where did Tonye Cole get his support from? Did Okrika support him? We all know how Okrika people rallied behind Wike. Have the Okrikans ever supported the Kalabari? Kalabari is even near. Did the Okrikans support the Bonny/Opobo when their son Peterside ran for Governorship? Even Peterside knew he was a lost cause in Okrika and began soliciting for Igbo votes. But too bad the Igbos who have been brainwashed by IPOB supported PDP, thinking a vote for APC is a vote for the north. Mr Man if we check history, you'll find out that the Okrika have a selfish tendency to support only themselves and recently the Ikwerre. The tendency of an old rivalry with Kalabari will always throw a spanner to such support. Ada George was Okrika and we know why he won Governorship in 1992. |
Why is this news? Kalabari has never claimed Ijaw from antiquity. The fake central Ijo dialect as propounded by the Izon landgrabbers from Bayelsa was mainly gotten from the old Kalabari language which was recognized in the former Eastern region. They were five official languages in the old eastern region which included Igbo, Efik, Kalabari, Ibibio, and Ekoi. Kalabari was the 2nd most spoken language in the riverine Niger-Delta after Igbo. Igbo however began losing relevance after the war. Kalabari existed before the Portuguese brought the Ujos from Togo area. Even the language known as Ibani spoken in Finima and Wakrike was gotten from Kalabari. The origin of Kalabari can be traced to a mixture of several group such as Igbo, Ibibio and Edo. The Ijaws came late. I expect more rebruttal in the coming days from other groups illegally landgrabbed by the Izons into their fanthom Ijaw republic. |
IPOB are delusional. Garba Shehu called IPOB terrorist by their name. IPOB touts should stop dragging Ndigbo into their stupidity. Clowns that never listen to advice should accept their fate in good will. See where Whataboutism has landed the idiotic group. |
Idiko1:Lol, Dede this your slang is too much. But I concur Sir |
I just thought it wise to share the above in this thread. I culled it out from another thread on King Jaja and after careful study got the meanings. What do you guys think? |
Now if we check Bonny oral history as told by themselves. This they also told the British. They left Ndoki through the Imo river to their present location in Bonny. Infact when they got there, they named the vast Island Okoloma. Okoloma is one of the villages in Ndoki. This tells you that the Bonny ancestors gave Bonny her name after their homeland in Ndoki. Okoloma might also mean several things in Ndoki. Interestingly, Okoloma is the native name for Bonny just like Eko is to Lagos. And as those in Lagos, Bonny people still call their home Okoloma. Consequently, the leader of the Ndoki people who led the party that founded this Island went by the name Okpara Ndoli. Okpara in Igbo means first son. Ndoli is his native Igbo name. So it meant he was the head of his clan. Again among those that joined him were Ndoki sons like Asimini, Opuamakuba and Alagbariya. Opuamakuba = Opuama (Community cap) + Ka (Greater) + Uba (Wealth). So Opuamakuba in Ndoki means the Royal Cap of the community is greater than wealth. Asimini = Azu + Mini meaning back of the water or the other side of the river in central Igbo. Azu is back in Igbo, like Azuka, Azubike and Azukiwe (Azikiwe). Asi is the variant in Ndoki. Alagbariya is another name with Igbo meaning. Ala means land or earth. Alagbariya might mean Ala is stronger. Like Ahiriya a praise name to call something or somebody strong. It means one you cannot overwhelm or win in Ndoki, Bonny and Opobo. So all the parties in the foundation etc are all Ndoki native names. All Bonny indigenes trace their ancestry to these men. These are the original houses in Bonny. However, a few house was created along the line to absord some hinterland Igbo slaves and also some Ijo migrants. Asimini was the first true King of Bonny. He heralded Bonny greatness and till date his children have remained Kings. The house of Halliday and Pepple who ruled Bonny trace their ancestry to Asimini. |
IDENNAA:Cool. Good one. It's called Obi in my place. |
It's obvious the Ijaws have been exposed as land grabbers and have been beaten by this thread. Like a crushed snake on a thin breath they’ll want to kill the thread. Please watch out for their pranks. Either with insults or by claiming Yoruba, Benin, Urhobo, Ibibio, Hausa or even Igbo to kill the thread. This has been their pranks since when Igbos in nairaland began exposing their lies in Bonny/Opobo and other Niger-Deltan eastern communities. Watch out for Tonye’s many monikers and the “We South-South” or “We Niger-Delta”. IPOB clowns without sense will definitely fall into their pranks and start fighting Yoruba. |
Christistruth00:Ijo man with his usual prank. Seeing that you’ve been beaten you now want to play the old prank by using other ethnic group as bait to fight Igbos. You can only deceive those who don't understand the game. If you like resurrect your Urhobo, Ibibio, Benin and Yoruba moniker to divert the attention of the thread, we full ground. The “We Niger-Delta” should take note. |
AfricanColumbus:I’m a lover of history and I read widely. |
AfricanColumbus:Cultural borrowing. The Ijaws who were traditionally sea dwellers and who relied on fish for sustainability migrated enmass to the eastern flank. The explosion of Ijaw population in the Niger-Delta might have seen much cultural borrowing which influence Bonny and other coastal communities in the Niger-Delta, such as the Andoni, Obolo, Ogbia, Okrika, Nembe, Degema, and Ilaje etc. Ijaw original homeland just like Ogoni is located in the present Togo/Ghana area. Some historians say that Ijaws came to their present location as porters with the Portuguese. While other historians say that Ijaws are the aboriginal people in what is known as the southern part of Nigeria. But looking at the both version, one will flow with the Togo/Ghana origin of the Ijaws. That's because every southern ethnic group in Nigeria are inter-related in language except the Ijaws. |

Double post. |
BiafraInc:Bless you. |
AfricanColumbus:You’re welcome. |
AfricanColumbus:Obu in Ndoki is courtyard in central Igbo it's Obi and in some dialect it's Ovu. In Igbo culture, Obu is usually where the elder or Eze sits as his palace or welcomes visitors. Opu on the other hand is cap. For example Opu Agu is the cap made popular by the Aros. Opobo and Bonny people wear this cap during their Nwaottam festival. In the past it was a special cap for chiefs and wealthy men. Hope you can now decipher the symbolic meaning of the name Opu-Obu. In Igbo when you pronounce the two words together it becomes Opubo. Opu-Obu which became the name of Opubo the Great the ancestor of Annie Pepple house means a true royalty. And when King Pepple 11 was interviewed by an English writer when he was in Fernando Po, he said his ancestors originated from Igboland. Now we know this part of Igboland he meant. Ndoki is the place as that name Obu connects with Bonny Igbo dialect. |
BiafraInc:Minimah is pure Ndoki. Just like Asimini. Mini = Miri which means Water in central Igbo. Don't pay heed to that niggar. This doesn't negate the fact that there also borrowed Ijo names over there due to centuries of cultural adaptation. |
Captain8:Otu Ijaw? Hold my beer. Timaya’s Odi if we look at his language is not even Ijo. Otu is Igbo and its spoken in northern Bayelsa its due to centuries of cultural relations with Igbos there. Either by links with Oru who lived in that axis or other Igbotic tribes like Ekpeye or Aboh. The Otu in Okrika is Igbo just as you find it in Ilwerre. Below is the true Ijaw word for one. |
