The Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Olushola Amore, has ordered the dismantling of a camp of Peace Corps of Nigeria in Offa local government area of the state, describing it as illegal. The Command’s Public Relation Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Friday in Ilorin. He said the Commissioner viewed the camp as illegal, hence the reason he ordered that everyone at the camp should leave. Okasanmi explained that there was no information to the effect that a camp will open in Offa to train anyone. “We were not officially informed about any camp in Offa and we don’t have any information about any organization organizing any camp there. “There should be no training or camping of any organization without the knowledge of the police. “No organization has secure any clearance to organize any camp in Offa. “When we got information that there is a camp going on somewhere in Offa and since no one informed us about any, we had to close the camp. “Doing this, we considered the security situation of the country because we don’t know the pedigree of the organization conducting the camp. “Our action was to just ensure there is no breakdown of law and order. “If we have a directive from Abuja that any camping will hold, there is no problem because we don’t have any issue with anyone” Okasanmi said. Reacting to the incident, the Kwara Adjutant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, Dr. Folorunsho Peter, denied the police allegation that his command did not inform it of its orientation camp. He explained that there were some applicants who had not paid their dues to qualify to take part in the orientation process who wanted to forcefully partake in the camping. “Some persons came and wanted to partake in the training and they have not paid their dues and met resistance from our officers on ground. “The police came in and said the issue has not been properly resolved and that we did not obtain clearance to operate. “We have properly informed them of our plans, we served them our time table for the orientation camp. “We even invited the police commissioner to come and deliver lecture, as well as DSS, NDLEA and some other organizations. “The camp Commandant came to Ilorin to see the Commissioner of Police, though I was not with them but was told they had a positive discussion” Peter said. Peter said theyhad allowed participants to go off camp, so as not to have any confrontation with the police. He said applicants have been told to report to the Command’s headquarter in Ilorin on Monday, Feb. 20, and that camping will resume again by Tuesday, Feb. 21. NAN reports that no fewer than 5, 000 applicants from across the country are gathered for the orientation in Offa. RosaConsidine: Well, he has retracted the story and told us what happened. Have the police conducted a proper investigation to confirm he was trying to "incite the public" or is someone just using this to score cheap popularity (and probably political) points? Actually I follwed the story. His so called driver has been arrested since like two weeks ago. I believe he must have been incriminated NY the driver to warrant his arrest weeks after Arresting the driver whom he claimed as his source. It's possible they found where he embellish the lie he was told himself to make it more graphic, which is what keeps inciting people. When next they see an innocent Fulani herdsman they'd feel justified to attack him and the cycle continues. |

Yet, you tell me its adherents aren't capable of converting with a sword. plS check my profile in 10mins time and see the picture i will place there. Keep deceiving yourself, In choosing a moniker one demonstrates his purpose online. It's clear yours is solely directed towards Islam. It's a pity you decide to exhaust this much of energy on Islam's matter you and your likes, I wonder what you intend to achieve. You do know well you can't make people hate zislam more than they already do, and you can't stop enlightened people from reverting despite almost zero evangelism. It's ironic it's your negative criticisms that motivate people with open mind to accept Islam. |

UltraLeslie: What the press accused of the Nigerian army is unfortunately how the Nigeria army conduct themselves; it is their typical modus operandi and trademark mode of operation. They have done it repeatedly over and over again. You must be an an army to make that statement.
Let me ask you; did the army have any business going after anyone in that village who killed their colleague? The answer is no. It's the constitutional duty of the police. Do not allow the lopsided way things are done here to change your perception of order.
The Nigerian army has always been a disgrace with a bunch of unprofessional idiots who thinks the uniform is a mark of superiority over anyone without a uniform.
Anyone who defends the army on matter of civilian brutality is an imbecilé in its purest form. Even if you were born abroad, you must have had friends and family who will tell you about how these uncivilised thugs in uniform operate.
Just last week I came to Lagos to purchase an iPad and a navy officer with naval coverall driving a Siena 2000 model was driving against traffic in a one-way lane.
He switched off the ignition and came down from his vehicle blocking the entire road...until the other vehicles plying the right way all cleared out for him.
The Nigerian army needs reorientation more than any other uniformed institution in Nigeria. Read my comments above. Their brutality does not mean people shall be making up stories about them. Certainly not those villagers at the mercy of barbaric herdsmen. Their community chief denied it for God's sake. |

dabossman: The way we throw terms around in this country though. I mean, Genocide? Haba, this is a reprisal attack. You killed one of theirs, they killed six of your.
It is not the kind of behavior the army should engage in, especially against the citizens they are supposed to protect. If the report is true, then those involved need to be punished.
I noticed that too. If their own council head denied the report, then the matter get as he be. Exactly! People underestimate the toxic nature of their words to others minds. Many just believe what they want to believe. |

DonCortino: Why is it on a national daily then? How many wrong news have been on a national daily? It all boils down to the source of the story. can't you see they fail to name even one of th so called killed villagers? including the alleged pregnant woman. Mind you I believe soldiers can do (and have done) worst, but it's dangerous to broadcast wrong information like this because it will only escalate the problem. The villagers stand to fain by aligning with security agents against the barbaric herdsmen that regularly attack their villages, but it will spell doom for them if they are exaggerating and killing soldiers. They will make two enemies for themselves, and no sane person would want that |

This is disappointing, Punch is also towing the line Vanguard in unprofessional journalism. The council chief denied the death of anybody, yet Punch put it in the headline without finding out the deceased name and intervening her family. They didn't even try to quote any source for their story, the writer just stated it as if he was an eye witness especially in that first paragraph. Honestly the people carrying misinformation are doing as much damage by creating unnecessary anger and hate in people's minds which may lead to carnage in the future. Uganda is a typical example. I condemn the soldiers act though if they really did what they did. |

I am very sure of what i'm telling you.
The government is playing with its youth but i'm glad we are waking up. I agree with you. A neighbor of mine reported to work like two weeks before the commencement of th recruitment. I was really excited when I told my uncle I've applied but he just looked at me and said most of those vacancies are already filled up even before the advertisement. The thing is very discouraging but we hope to see this kind of thing eradicated. |

lagostokd: Stop rewriting history!
The origin of this holiday for the expression of love really isn't romantic at all—at least not in the traditional sense. Father Frank O'Gara of Whitefriars Street Church in Dublin, Ireland, tells the real story of the man behind the holiday—St. Valentine. "He was a Roman Priest at a time when there was an emperor called Claudias who persecuted the church at that particular time," Father O'Gara explains. " He also had an edict that prohibited the marriage of young people. This was based on the hypothesis that unmarried soldiers fought better than married soldiers because married soldiers might be afraid of what might happen to them or their wives or families if they died." "I think we must bear in mind that it was a very permissive society in which Valentine lived," says Father O'Gara. "Polygamy would have been much more popular than just one woman and one man living together. And yet some of them seemed to be attracted to Christian faith. But obviously the church thought that marriage was very sacred between one man and one woman for their life and that it was to be encouraged. And so it immediately presented the problem to the Christian church of what to do about this." "The idea of encouraging them to marry within the Christian church was what Valentine was about. And he secretly married them because of the edict." Valentine was eventually caught, imprisoned and tortured for performing marriage ceremonies against command of Emperor Claudius the second. There are legends surrounding Valentine's actions while in prison. "One of the men who was to judge him in line with the Roman law at the time was a man called Asterius, whose daughter was blind. He was supposed to have prayed with and healed the young girl with such astonishing effect that Asterius himself became Christian as a result." In the year 269 AD, Valentine was sentenced to a three part execution of a beating, stoning, and finally decapitation all because of his stand for Christian marriage. The story goes that the last words he wrote were in a note to Asterius' daughter. He inspired today's romantic missives by signing it, "from your Valentine." Wow! It's amazing how you decide to give this part of history from the middle. Astonishingly without mentioning FEBRUARY 13th. OK just one question where do you get to pick this particular date to celebrate the so called St. Valentines Day? |

Omudia: Oh shut up... Mention the verse in the bible that promotes fornication and immorality..?? Do you even know that Saint Valentine died for Christ?
Pls shut up if you don't know history. See me see wahala o! I never said there was a Bible verse that supported fornication. What I said was. 1. Valentines day originated from pagan origin which was adopted by Christianity and renamed. 2. Valentine's day signifies a day of immorality culminating in adultery and fornication, which is main reason why Islam is against it. Now you know the history of thus day, you wouldn't want it to be associated with your religion. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Islamic Hatred For Valentine's Day by EazyMoh(m): 4:43pm On Feb 14, 2017 |
Islam isn't like Christianity where every pagan festivity no matter how immoral is conveniently adopted. You don't need a day in a year to show your loved ones you love them. In essence this day is just a day to glorify immorality and encourage adultery and fornication. |
