history2902: I think you really need to get educated.
You are confusing "Benin Kingdom" with "Benin City".
For your information, Edo state is only a small part of Benin Kingdom.
Benin City is the capital of the Benin Kingdom (empire).
That is why the Oba of Benin is actually called Omo n'Oba n'Edo.
I explained all of this earlier, can you read ? lol.. oniovo biko you win.
yes I can read, but make it not too lengthy . |

history2902: Can you point out the year the indians migrated to england ? No you can't, but it is still a fact that those indians in england are migrants, right ? My argument is very simple. Current Edo state was the heart of a country called Benin Empire/Kingdom whose capital was Benin City. That country was a souvereign country with a standing army, its own flag and so on. Now how is it logical to now claim that parts of the heart of that country are ijaw-land ? The fact that some ijaws are resident in Edo-state doesn't in anyway make parts of Edo state to be ijaw-land. The same way, you have igbo communities in the north, that doesn't make parts of the north to be igbo-land, does it ? It seems you are merely trying to celebrate the lack of manners of some ijaw who reside in Edo state. Disrespecting your host is not a vertue. During the creation of Edo state some itsekiris and ijaw communities were carved into Edo state, why some were carve into ondo.. now my issue here is why would you guys say those ijaw communities were migrant? No doubt bini kingdom ruled Lagos, ondo, Delta at some point in time, but those are past glories, it still doesn't mean ijaw don't have indigenous community in those state. I hope you get what am saying? |

history2902: Man, take a look at Benin (Edo) history before making stupid threats. The funny thing is that we Edos welcomed you guys as our brothers and even supported GEJ. But ofcourse thieves have no honour, they bite the hands which feed them. Be carefull what you say, don't wake up a sleeping lion. The issue here is that we have ijaw enclave in Edo and Ondo state, maybe you are confusing Edo state with Binin kingdom, of course not. ijaw don't have any land in Bini Kingdom, but there are ijaw communities in Edo state. is that too hard to understand? |

history2902: @efewestern,
do you hear yourself speak ? Do I really need to remind you that Benin (Edo land) was a country with a standing army untill it was defeated by the british ? Given that fact, how logical is it to call parts of Edo state "ijaw land" ? Should the indians living in england now carve out the places in which they live as "indian land" Sincerly, admit it, you are the one who is not making sense. Your people are indigenous to cross river. And they migrated to other kingdoms. You can't rewrite history. You can only rewrite rumours. Benin history is well documented over hundreds of years by european explorers who visited the region. You need to understand the nature of the Ijaw people, we shouldn't support evil just because we are not member of a particular tribe, am not ijaw to start with, all am saying is that Don't deny the fact that we have ijaw communities in Edo and they don't answer to your Oba. Please do a little research before arguing, can you point out the year ijaw migrated to Edo and Ondo? |

history2902: Tell me what history you are quoting. How is it logical to claim without proof that the King of Itsekiri land (I think that is the Olu of Warri) is Edo, and then to claim that however his people are not ? What history are you quoting ? It seems to me that you guys tried to rewrite the history of the Itsekiri but their King came out to confirm his loyalty to Omo n'Oba Edo and to his ancestors and then you tried to isolate the King from his people. And look once again, the ijaws in Edo Kingdom are migrants !!!! The ijaws living in france can't carve out a part of france and say it is part of ijaw land, why would they now carve a part of Edo Kingdom and call it part of ijawland. You people are crazy. I don't want to argue further, take a trip to ijaw land in Edo and Ondo and tell them they are migrant. I just hate it when you feel you can Dictate to any one. |

aljharem: You have a point but crave out is a no no as far as yorubas are concerned. Ijaws in ondo migrated of recent and they will be chased out You still don't get it do you?, I was pointing out a fact to you that we all migrated to our present day domain, you claimed ijaw migrated to ondo, yes I quite agree with you, itsekiri migrated to Delta, ilaje migrated to ondo. What matters is did they meet any tribe there? and I would also love if you point out the year ijaw migrated to ondo, so we can start from there history2902: Dude, your lack of historical knowledge is frightening. For your information, before the british ruled over the land space currently referred to as nigeria, there were countires in the stead of nigeria. The status of "migrant" in a state A is to point out that your ancestors were not citizens of A before colonization. You certainly wouldn't expect ijaws living in france to carve out a part of france and claim it is part of "ijaw-land", would you ? The same goes for Edo land and other lands. The ijaw are indigenous to cross river and that is all. Everybody needs to be educated in history, it would avoid all these meaningless fights. Now here we go again, What year did ijaw migrated to ondo and Edo?, so ijaw land in Edo belongs to Your people? funny how we reason at times. This is not a meaningless fight, you are trying to rewrite history that suits you. history2902: Once again which history are you quoting ? How does it even make sense that you would claim that "Itsekiri, awori, ilaje, akoko" are "yoruba" ? For example the land of the Itsikeri doesn't even border the south-west. Historical documents show Lagos as being part of the Benin empire. The only thing all these ethnic groups have in common with the "yoruba" are Benin costums which those calling themselves "yoruba" took from the Benin Empire. Is it time yet for me to point out the fact that Edos have no difficulty understanding "yoruba" dialects, my mother doesn't have any difficulty speaking yoruba and she told me that yoruba is a mild corruption of Edo. You mean itsekiri land don't border Ondo?, to think You still claim you know history still baffles me, you keep rewriting the history of other tribe here which is bad, I hope more itsekiri will see this and make necessary correction. up till date there are still some independent itsekiri communities that claim they migrated from ijebu, most migrated from ilaje they only adopted a BINI prince. |

Culture › Re: Olorogun: Origin And How It Became Accepted In Urhoho/isoko by Efewestern(op): 6:43am On Jul 02, 2017 |
Konquest: ^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^ @Efewestern I'm just seeing this post.
Olorogun was introduced by the Itsekiris [a subgroup of mainly Yoruba and some Edo ancestries] into Urhobo communities that were part of the trading empire of the Niger Delta merchant Prince Nana of Itsekiri or Nana Olomu who had many Urhobo wives.
Olorogun is derived from Olori Ogun [Head of Warriors or General]. Chief Felix Ibru did not introduce the Olorogun title to his community, but his community is one that has historical and trading ties with Itsekiriland.
There is a strong intermarriage between Itsekiris and Urhobos, so there is an intermingling of cultures because that part of Delta State is a melting pot of cultures.
RMD's father is Urhobo while his mother is Itsekiri. Prof. Itself Sagay is Itsekiri with an Urhobo mother, same too with the publisher of Vanguard, Chief Sam Amuka-Pemu and a lot more.
Olori is used in Itsekiri language to connote a head or leader. Olori also refers to the Queen or wife of the Olu of Warri just like it is pronounced in Yorubaland for the wives of Obas.
DNA tests clearly show that Itsekiris do have Yoruba ancestry.
Just go to Google and type Waphyguy, It will bring up the YouTube video of the DNAland DNA test that the Nigerian of Urhobo ancestry did [he has an Itsekiri mother]. The test shows that he has Edoid/Esan and Yoruboid ancestry and the test is VERY accurate!
This shows that their is a common thread that connects Urhobos/Itsekiris/ Edos/Yorubas, etc, because they have become cousins through intermarriage especially at the core border areas.
Itsekiris, Ilajes, Ikales represent Eastern Yoruboid groups. Please note also that in the 1480s, Prince Ginuwa, the first son of the reigning Oba of Benin left with 70 of his men who represented the sons of the Oba's 70 chiefs, on exile and arrived at Ode-Itsekiri where he was well received by Lenuwa an Itsekiri of Ijebu descent and they eventually settled in the midst of the Itsekiris and Prince Ginuwa became the first Olu in the 1480s. They also married the Itsekiri women they met there, i.e., the 70 aides of Prince Ginuwa that followed him into exile. Ginuwa's mother was from Ife and was married to the Oba of Benin so Chief Lenuwa easily gave him recognition because of Ginuwa's royal status.
I have studied the very exciting history of the people of Delta State/Nigeria as a whole since the 80s and I'm humbled by the fact that we are closely related thanks for your submission, but am just hearing this for the first time.. itsekiri don't make use of olorogun so how can we take it from them? yes I know the name has a strong root in Yoruba that's why I created this thread so we can get contributions from people like you. about the DNA, hmmm lemme do a little research on that. ophare fratermathy Sanchez01 |

I am glad you want an Igboid Biafra. That is what we have all been saying since. We can be partners (if both sides are willing) in fighting for our own interests. What pains us is that some persons are going about propagating things that can break the little trust minorities have for Igbos. this isn't a matter of trust.. everybody just want the best for their tribe, your interest shouldn't supersede others interests. you just need to state why the urhobo nation won't be part of any unholy alliance.. our interest is best protected in Niger Delta as a republic or Nigeria where each region should control their resources. this is what the urhobo nation need, this is what we will get. Nobody has monopoly over us. |

Olu317: Let us not over drag this because Ishekiri is Yoruba offshoots. The reason people were not in tune with Yoruba tag at first is that, it was used to identify Odu'a descendants by the Malians traders , other traders of Arab descents and Berbers in the olden days. So, don't be too conservative to denying our other sibling in Ishekiri land access to Odua land. Beside, Ishekiri speaks 70.3% (Ijumu/Okun Yoruba), 71.5% (standard Yoruba), 72.0% (Ijesha), 74.0% ( Ekiti) of Yoruba language. Where do you place such people? You need to read their history, written by their people and you will understand ,where they identify with as far as Nigeria is concerned. Believe me the itsekiris don't see themselves as Yoruba.. yes they speak similar language with you, bear similar names with you.. but hey that doesn't make them Yoruba. Itsekiri is itsekiri, Yoruba is Yoruba. and I think itsekiri are more connected with ondo (Ilaje) than those from Lagos. First of all the lady saw her period on the 16th , normally from on the 16-23rd is usually free, no matter Hw many sex they had she won't get pregnant . It started with debt, she claimed she was owing a woman 150k and that the woman was on her neck ,so she pleaded with me to help her pay and without hesitation I wired the money to her. A week later she she posted different hair types on my wassap wall and their prices with the cheapest at 80k. when I asked her what the post meant she said she urgently needs to fix her hair and that she needs like 200k . I objected at first but she started this emotional blackmail thing by saying; Don't u want ur baby to look nice? so after much pressure I wired 180k to her to go get a new set of weavon. A week later,I noticed if I don't call her she won't call me or when she calls we may end up quarrelling. A day came she brought up this idea of starting up a small business so that she won't be asking me money all the time and when I inquired about the business she gave me a bill of 600k. I told her u don't expect me to wire 600k to u just like that. I asked her to explain what the business is all about and if I'm convinced I will give her the money. Then she came up with one story like that about gas supply and the profitability level. After much argument back and forth, I gave her the 600k. Barely a week later she came up with a story about how her ex saw her at the bus stop and collected her phone from her and that she should come to his house and collect her phone . From the direction she was going I knew she wanted me to buy a new phone for her and when I asked what phone do u need to buy she said iPhone 4. Then ipone4 was being sold at about 120k for a new one so without baiting an eye lead, I went into zenith bank and transferred 130k to her . Two weeks later, during easter we were meant to spend the easter together but somehow she just found one excuse to be away from me . when I call her, she wouldn't take my calls but send message later that she will call me which she would never do. A week after easter, she sent me text one night around 1130 pm that she lost her phone I bought like two weeks earlier. In the morning of the following day she called more than twenty times before I finally picked her calls and she was crying on phone ,apologising to me . I asked her to come see me at my office and within 30 minutes she was already troubling my secretary. When we met, I took her to shoprite where I got her a brown new iPhone 5 that was just launched in Nigeria. Well to cut the long short, after I blew over 1.5 million naira on her within a span of 3 months she told me to my face she doesn't love me . I said ok and let her go. lolz.. gat to quote this... men you were really in love. #mumumatta.. you come go be warri boy again |
