I just checked NL version of the same  opinion poll like 1 minute ago, BB=51.7%  and GEJ=29.1, this is second time I am partcipating on Presidental opinion polls on NL, and BB have led both polls convincingly. Reuters can write what the like, that is the same reuters that was writting nice things about  American and Europian financial markets, only to see the world economy to be plunged into recession.

How can you compare nairaland polls to Reuters or worse still REALITY? Even Seun go dey laugh when he read this your post.   Anybody can go to that poll right now and turn the result around in 1 hour. All you need is several usernames. But all that is bull. Someone even posted that BB has more fans on facebook. I had to quickly cure the guy's misconception. GEJ is competing with people like Barrack Obama on facebook and someone is comparing him with some wannabe.

@ jason123, I understand your passion but this is politics. As a leader of people with diverse interests, he has to learn how to be tolerant and careful with words. This matter is beyond morality. It is about people and their interests. Buhari may lose a lot of votes in places like Lagos because of the insults Bakare has rained on some pastors / leaders people hold in high esteem at one time or the other. No insults intended. It's left for Bakare to remember that this is politics and the rules of the game will have to be followed.

I'm not so comfortable with Bakare's now familiar attacking of ACN. We will need these people, maintain a rancour-free or at least neutral relationship with them for now pls. Attacking ACN will not be productive for this change project.

Bakare is like a time bomb in the middle of CPC. He does not watch his words and that is part of what may lead to his political downfall.

^ Even with a very pessimistic estimate, you have shown that PDP still has the election. Secondly, the challenge with an official presidential alliance is the fact that it will reduce the chances of any party that steps down at the governorship election. That is why the election was scheduled that way. They were smart enough to put the presidential election in between.

Buhari was managing poverty. some of the thieves were escaping. the politicians had killed the economy with heavy debts, while the only source of revenue, oil, was rendered near useless by the collapse of oil prices in the international market. hence the austerity measure. IBB that took over what did he do? he could not do better. he introduced SAP and the rest is now history.
GEJ and his PDP came in when the Oil is at its highest value. Billions of dollars. they are supposed to manage wealth. but they just can not. they have fared worse than those who manged poverty.

There is no excuse for Buhari. What was the economic situation when the man was President? Every government has a challenge. The key challenge then was the economy. It is written all over the history books. What idea did he bring that worked? Why couldn't Buhari attract foreign investment? Instead he made the bad situation worse and almost strangled the people and the economy. Someone like Donald Duke for example, attracted so much investment to his state despite the limited federal allocation he had.

It is only to show you that all the "heaven and earth" that BB is promising is just a mirage. Playing on people's emotions by making them feel he has some special antidote. Let the guy enter that place, then you will see the height of mismanagement. Also, if you open your eyes well, you will know we are way better today than years before. We have forgotten how we lived in terror during Abacha regime. We have forgotten how we never believed we could own mobile phones. We have forgotten what the local content law has done for millions of Nigerians. Many humans are insatiable and will never agree to some facts. They always prefer looking back.

You are obviously a supporter of GEJ as I used to be, hence the subjectivity. However, my experience with talking to many people in Abuja and Lagos, as well as other parts of Nigeria indicates that people want a strong leader who can tackle the untouchables. I will trust the 2 polls that I posted better than any newspaper polls.

Larez, we are not talking about who you will vote or who ip-addresses will vote. Besides Reuters is not a "Nigerian newspaper". The question is what percentage each candidate will get in Lagos. There is no need for delusions. It is obvious GEJ has majority votes in Lagos. I however do not think the margin will be up to 80%. I also think Ribadu will be next to GEJ in Lagos. BB may get as much votes as Ribadu but the margin may not be too wide either way. Let the election come and go. My post is there for reference after the election.

Please lookout for pick pockets. Also be careful not to buy fake gala or bottled water from the numerous hawkers that will be at the rally. Just in case you run out of credit, look behind you, you will find one person selling recharge cards. By the way, do not bother to go to Yaba to buy that belt you always wanted to buy. Just look in front of you, there is someone there selling belts. If you decide to meet up an appointment real quick, walk towards the edge of the crowd. there are several bike riders waiting for passengers. Finally, do not forget to ask the man around you if he has a voter's card

To those talking about Edo State;

There are some facts you cannot argue and it will do you a lot of good to carefully avoid them if those facts don't favor you. Edo state voters will massively vote GEJ. Just leave that matter and focus on other things. The delusion will not help matters. Same way we all know Buhari will get majority of NW votes. You only make the fall greater when you raise hopes too high. Fantasize with caution and face the issue at hand: Who Will Win The Southwest?

Lagosboy, no need for that argument. It is written in "black and white". GEJ volunteers has over 34,000 likes while BB official fanpage has 12,000. Those are the recent ones. Even the main BB page doesn't have as much fans as the GEJ volunteers group. Look at the facebook yourself. Even if you add all the likes from BB, it is not up to the one for GEJ on just one site. Forget those things and face the election proper.

I have always had this info but didn't bother to flaunt it. There's no point in talking about who has more support. One is a serving president the other is a perpetual candidate. Let the real election decide.

If we can print bank notes why not ballot papers. We can apply the same control measures.

Based on the above, I hereby challenge every well meaning Nigerian (Irrespective of the candidate you support) to prove to Nairalanders (with evidence) where these individuals have their allegiance. Prove to every Nigerian:

1. Who are the key players in the cabal/cartel Sanusi referred to?
2. Is any of the presidential aspirants part of, for, or against this cabal?
3. Has any of the aspirants compromised or agreed to any terms to allow them continue plundering our economy?
4. Are these guys are out to topple or support the current government in order to stop the efforts at power sector reforms amongst other efforts?

Let's Xray the key players supporting each candidate and tell us what their interests are. Run a background check on the key players in the cartel and trace where their support has been going. Find out which of them has refused to drop his/her interest and vowed to stop the government. Let's use our intelligence to conduct this investigation for the good of Nigeria. If you have an insider, try also to find out what you can.

If we can come to a reasonable conclusion, we all should support the candidate who is against this cabal and is in support the reforms we desperately need.
Let's leave out the aspect of whether or not any candidate can be influenced or pressured. Our perception of any candidate is not enough to conclude on whether or not the cabal can have an influence on them if they are as powerful as we are made to believe.  Our aim is to vote against this cabal and vote for the right thinking candidate. Let the challenge begin!

But on to the main issue, you made a point here which is very valid:

From what you posted, can you give any evidence to prove Buhari's achievements in areas like finance and economics? That is what can sell him. To me, that is what has made the indian leader "the most qualified". How about Bakare, what are his achievements? I wish the BB campaign was about issues like that.

Based on this line of thought, I can confidently tell you that the Ribadu/ Adeola team is a perfect example of highly qualified candidates. GEJ/Sambo is also ok in terms of qualification. I have other reasons for supporting them in 2011. I have listed them in another thread.

Nagoma, read through my posts and show me where I said he wants to "favor" muslims or "impose" Islam on the country! Other posters may have said so but I have never towed that path. I only said he picked Pastor Bakare mainly to play on sentiments. That choice of VP was a religious card. I do not believe in appointing people based sentiments. What else will he bring to the table? You failed to notice that I also stated my support for a muslim/muslim ticket.

I have stated my position: Religion should not be a principal concern in the appointment of public office holders. That is my ideology.

You did hit the nail on the head! It is Buhari's tribe and religion that is the problem for Nairalanders whose vast majority are obviously not from that tribe. So it doesn't matter if 16bn $ for the power generation was squandered by Obasajo the GEJ mentor and PDP boss and 3Bn Naira for road repair disappeared without trace when Aneni (Mr. Fix it) was Obasanjos Minister of works . All the inventions against Buhari are to ensure that the mild mannerred clueless incoherent mediocre remains as president because he is not from hated tribe and group. QED.

This argument is not true for a very large number of us. Ribadu/Adeola is a muslim ticket but I am very ok with their ambition.  Ribadu has identified himself with every part of Nigeria. I do not even consider Shekerau as a tribalistic man even if he is a core Northerner. I supported Yar'Adua presidency. Most of the reasons why I oppose a Buhari presidency are the same reasons why I will oppose any old ex-military president like OBJ, IBB or Gowon. If Pastor Bakare were to be the flag bearer of PDP or ACN, I will still not support him. Both candidates for me are NO-NO. If your argument is true, why is Rev. Chris Okotie not enjoying our vote? A president is not there to be a religious ruler. He should be able to lead everyone no matter the religion. Religion should never be a selling point for a public office like the presidency.

I may be wrong, but I believe in the way things work in the corporate world. And for me, that ideology is the way forward.

His problem is more than the "figure" of his age. It is his ideology that cannot be changed anymore. Have you heard the parable "You cannot teach an old dog new tricks". Can he change in a rapidly changing world? How will he react when things start moving fast around him. That is why I used the world class CEOs as an example. Some of them are made to retire compulsorily at 60. Find out why. Sometimes the extremely good ones are left in the system but only as advisers. Buhari has a system of thinking that cannot be changed and we should not gamble the fate of the country on that. Let him come out with the key issues and then we will know he is thinking. Politics of sentiments and emotions is the old order and he doesn't know better than that.

On corruption, his "integrity" has nothing to do with how well he can fight corruption. In democracy, you fight corruption by putting control systems in place and encouraging a strong legal system. You cannot use a koboko in this age to "make" people to stop being corrupt. Little boys will use him to do shege! We need someone who will be smart enough to know the kinds of policies to implement in order to control corruption. He has not come out to tell us the kinds of structures he will put in place to achieve his goal. All he has said is "I will probe x and y" and I have a system that I will introduce. Is he the one that will judge the case? Is it not the same set of people we have today that will do the probes? How long will the probes take? Will he re-probe all that has been probed before? What ever new system he intends to introduce will need to go through the Parliament. His corruption agenda is extremely ambiguous and has no substance. It is hinged on one thing "When he was the head of state, he flogged people with koboko and put a lot of people (those who were against his government or ideology) in jail". Finito!
