TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Eilenora: 10:31pm On Jun 05, 2018
hello guys.

so I am trying to prepare a budget for new york delivery and I need some input from u guys.

so far I have been able to get costs from wyckoff which covers hosp, physician, epidural and pediatrician (9,500 for natural). distance from hosts' is just 45 mins which I presume isnt bad. i have flight ticket cost and also costs for visa on arrival ($190) from my research so far. so I am now trying to determine costs for birth certf (huh?), USA passport (is this 165 regardless of state?), pediatrician post delivery (huh), infant ticket on Emirates (huh), additional lab tests (awaiting hosp response on if my test results will be accepted from Nig and cost implication for any additional tests)..

anything I missed out besides living expenses, transportation and baby shopping?

does anyone know if Emirate has issues flying at 34 weeks? on their site it only talks about getting a medical cerf8 but how about in practice, what really occurs? also the ease of attaching an infant ticket to one's ticket.

POE issues (if any) upon laying over in Dubai as well.

Any one that can assist in helping me populate my budget will really be appreciated please.

Hello.

Havnt been on here in quite a while and it appears that btwn when i left and now there's really nothing new. I felt like I kept hitting stumbling blocks while researching into Canada birth tourism and concluded that Canada is not as embracing of birth tourism as USA is. I am now tilting towards returning to USA to have my baby since I had my 1st there and I still have an existing visa. Both my siblings and cousins in Canada also gave same advise as every enquiry they made was met with a no insurance, no taking client answer, and yes, most were rude and uncooperative. am not ready to go thru any emotional or psychological stress applyin for a visa, travellin to Canada and then start looking for a doctor and hospital. I just cant take that kind of risk. so here I am currently looking into hospitals in queens New york area. back on the giving birth in usa thread for more info on this.

manlikegb:
@Eilenora, No foul play. I called Dr Abou and the secretary said they do not accept cash payment anymore and she was even kinda rude and hung up eventually. Do you know if your contact in Canada who made the call on your behalf spoke to the Secretary or was able to speak with the doctor himself.

Any luck with finding another Dr that accepts cash yet?

Hello peeps.

So it appears most New York bound mamas dont use wyckoff anymore since their increase in price. Is there a more reasonably priced hospital anyone can recommend in Ny pls?

Thnks 4 responding.

So i did a spreadsheet of how much it wi cost me flyi g thru NY. Ticket to NY from Lagos, cab fare from Jfk to hotel, 1 night hotel accommodation, feedin lunch and dinner, cab fare from hotel to JFK, baggage fares usually paid on U.s domestic flights, and other possible costs i could think of. Total came to roughly 700. Mea while flying direct is 835. Am i really saving costshuh?

Toddler is a 3 year old girl. If i leave her wth my mum shl hv 2 change schools for the period cos mum is on d mainland yle i stay on d island. Wots d psychological effect of this on her? So mums absence, obviously dad wil only be seein her wknds, changin schools. Are those too many changes? Or she should just stay out of schl completely? Maybe get lesson teacher for the 2.5mnths? Travellin alone so takin her with me will be just too much 4 me 2 handle

Confused much!!!

If u have the money for Navada kindly buy it cos with preg n travelling its not easy. Then again u can buy NY ticket n buy a local flight in US before u travel, ur family in US can help u with that.

When I went for my trip, I left my 2yr old boy back home for 5mths it was not easy but I wanted it that way cos of the pregnancy although my mum came to meet me in US later but I knew it wld b tasking for both of us with my son..so I left him back with his dad.. Then its now depends on the gender, if its a girl pls just take her along..biko..

For passport, I collected the US palie for my girl and am yet to collect Nigerian Passport for her till now cos, I got a Nigerian visa on her US passport....later in the year, I will collect the Nigeria passport for her. I guess the MMA $190 thing is new...

For the intent, you can do it in June, if you do it earlier I don't think there is a problem..change of mind can happen at anytime so I think ur good when ever u send the mail...

Best of luck..

Well-done people for keeping this trend going..
Hi guys.

So my ticket to Nevada is over 800k. Am trying to see if i cam get there cheaper so thinking of 1st flying to Ny as there seems to be many promos now for NY. But am wondering, wots d POE like in NY for preggies?

Another qstn is ds, I wanna travel August ending. When would be the best time to do a change of intent email to the embassy? Is it too early?

Is it advisable to travel with my toddler? Am wondering how il take care of her in my 3rd trimester with little or no help. Tho am stayin with ppl theyl hardly be home cos they go to work. Can i leave a 3yr old for 2.5mnths? Will it affect her psychologically? Plus child flight ticket to nevada isnt smiling o.

Finally, so av read thru previous threads that once u get ur babys american passport no need to stress over gettin a nign passport or visa over there. I can just apply for a VOA amd get it when we get to MMA yea? The 190 dollars is paid at MMA right?

Hello guys.

Av been a silent observer and learnt so much from this thread. Kudos 2 everyone for their input amd ensuring the thread is active and alive.

Pls i want to make enquiry about smthn. With regards to work experiece and noc, so I have about 6years experience in the noc i want to use (law). But the past 1 year av bn doing somthn completely different from my noc (travels). Then a month ago i registerd a company in line with my noc (law firm). So in completing my profile, i filled just the 6 years and now self employed under my own company, but there's now that 1 year gap in btwn. What do you suggest I do to make up for this?

Many thanks.

No I dont get salaries. So is there still need for payslips?

Hubby is actually based in naija o not US.

On d funds does that mean the Naira equivalent should be transfered 2 my Naira acct? Cos my dorm account has little or no activity.

quote author=debbyomi post=66227860]

1. Since you are working at your mom's agency, She can back date an employment letter for you and also give you all the necessary pays lips. Are you paid salary? If yes, it will reflect on your statement. If no, explain that it is an unpaid position or you serve as a board of director.

2. Yes you can fill in both jobs. You can work two jobs. People overseas do it all the time. State when you left Law school and clearly state that you have been practicing since then. Any deposits in your account should be explained if linked to any clients work.

3. The 10000 USD should be put in your most act I've account. Preferably the local domiciled one. You have to print statements to show proof of the turnover of the account.

4. The only worrisome fact or question is this "your husband lives in the US, does that make you an immigrant risk if granted a visa? If yes, you need to provide evidence to show that you intend to return home after the trip

All the best
I have gone through the entire thread 2ce and equally took notes while at it. Am asking for anyone with more recent updates since things change everyday. Eg no1 here knew that Dr Ayodele has stoped taking cash paying patients til I posted it yesterday. Reading the thread wouldnt have brought forward this information now would it? So dont assume. If u dont have the answers 2 my qstns just jump and pass abeg.

quote author=hajidel post=66229650]You had asked this same question and you were told to go through the thread. Therefore its quite obvious you haven't gone through the thread and I'm guessing the visa is not that important to you if you can't take the time to read through a mere 65 page forum that is full of all the information you may need to successfully get a visa.
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Canada by Eilenora: 2:03am On Mar 28, 2018
Anyone applied for a visiting visa recently should pls share their timeline.

Also anyone that applied that declared their intention to give birth in Canada, pls share your experience.

Finally, pls advise on how to capture what i do. I work as MD CEO in mums travel agency. I dont earn a salary but i get 50% of wtva sales i make. No contract of emplyment or payslips or salaries. I am also a lawyer so i jst registed my law firm 2 wks ago. How do i say what i do while ensuring the social ties requirement is met? If i use mums agency theres no supporting document as an employee. If i use d law firm, sayin i run my own pracfice wont it look funny since it was only registered 2 weeks ago. This is also giving me sleepless nights. Kindly advise

Eilenora:
Hello Gurus in the house.

Pls assist with these qstns.

I currently manage my mums travel agency (no employment letter or anything). I am also a lawyer by profession tho on my own (business just registered this week). I intend to use d latter to apply for express entry. Process already in the works for this. But for the purpose of a trv, what do I say that I do and what supporting documents would i attach? If i use d agncy, since its mums business i dont have d usual employment contract, payslips etc. Also it will negate my plans to say i am a lawyer when eventually applying for express entry. At the same time if i use d lawyer with my newly registered business name wont it be as tho d business was registered simply for trv purposes?

2nd qstn, huby wants to send me 10k usd as pof. Will this be enough if i already have accommodation in canada? How do i package this money such that it doesnt look like a sudden lodgement prior to one's visa application? Should he send it to my dorm acct which hsnt bn active in forever or shld he send to me in naira i to my personal account which is more active?

Hi guys.

Many thanks for your comments.

My search keeps hitting a brick wall. My host helped call both Dr. Abou and Dr. Kayode. Both said they ve stopped accepting cash paying patients but we should check in another 2 to 3 months if this policy has been reviewed.

My bro stays in London Ontario area.

Am out of options.
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Canada by Eilenora: 11:58am On Mar 26, 2018
Pls can you share Dr. Ayodele's number

Thnx so mch 4 d detailed post. really clarified some grey areas for me

Geeagu:
Hello everyone,
So as promised, here’s an update on my general experience.

POR experience : scroll to previous post below this one.

Dr: Dr Kayode Ayodele (his clinic is at Brampton, almost opposite/adjacent to the Brampton Civic Hospital)
Fee: $3,500 (this includes all antenatal visits, dr’s fees, paediatrician fee (this is who checks the baby at the hospital before you get discharged), anesthesiologist (so this covers epidural should you need it and in case of CS as well), 1 postpartum visit at 6 weeks for those who would be here at that time. I wouldn’t and I intend to visit him shortly before I leave for a quick checkup. He may or may not agree to this but that’s my plan).

Lab work:
I would advise that you find out exactly what tests your dr would need you to do and sort the ones you can sort in your country of residence especially if they are free over there like in my car.

I ended up paying about $55 for the 2 tests I did (Rubella and GBS). Unfortunately UK doesn’t offer these tests else I would have paid nothing.

Bear in mind that you are not obliged to use one particular lab. I did my research and I found out that Dynacare was cheaper than Lifelab so I went for them instead.

Hospital: Brampton Civic Hospital
Fee: $2000 per day for Mum and $600 per day for child. For vagina birth which was what I had, you get discharged within 24hrs which means you’ll only have to pay $2,600 for mother and child. If it’s CS, the minimum stay is 48hrs which should be $5,200 for mother and child.

For me, I had a post delivery ultrascan because my placenta was manually removed and dr wanted to be sure that she got everything out ok. I forgot to ask if the money I paid already covers this br she didn’t also ask. So far (15days pp) I’ve not got any bills via post. If I do, I’ll come back and update.

So even though you’re signed up with Dr Kayode (in my case), if you went into labour when he’s not on duty, that means another dr would be assigned to you for delivery. The dr that delivered my baby (Dr Sahi) was absolutely brilliant.

Please note that hospital fee is for delivery without complications.

Birth registration (long birth certificate) and birth certificate (short birth certificate)

Fee: $60 ($35 and $25 respectively)
Paid online via Service Ontario website (www.serviceontario.ca). It’s the 4-in-1 bundle but do not tick the SIN and health card option as they do not apply to you if you’re not a permanent resident in Canada.
Be sure that all your details are correct before submitting. When we received our son’s certificate, we realised there was a mistake on dad’s don, this means we had to call service Ontario and get them to send us a form for correction. This form cannot be obtained online, you have to call them and get them to send it to you, then you complete it, send the incorrect ones with the form back and they then send you the correct version (we’re still waiting ro receive this form, I’ll update on how long it took to sort it all out).
The original one took 5 working days (applied on Tuesday, got the birth certificates Wednesday the following week).

Passport:
Even though the long birth certificate had error, we still took it along with dad’s passport. We explained the situation and luckily they agreed to still process the passport after verifying dob on dad’s passport.

Fee: $57, expedited for 5 working days for extra $50 so total paid: $107
So we applied Thursday, we’ll pick up Thursday.
I did ask option for next day pick up and the handler said I didn’t qualify for that option because my travel date wasn’t within 48hrs of applying. There’s an option for date of travel on the form, if you want 24hrs pick up, you should ensure this date is within 48hrs from when you apply. I didn’t ask for the cost, I’m guessing it’s ve more than the extra $50 for 5-10 business day expedited service.

I applied in person in Mississauga where I stayed so pick up will be there too. I hear you’ll have to pick up from Mississauga anyway if you applied in Brampton.

Accommodation was free for me. Transport was subsidised in the sense that my friend or her mom would take me for appointment or anything when they are available.

The few times I took uber for my antenatal it was approximately $70 round trip. I came in at 35weeks, so assuming I never got help from my friend, the maximum I’d be paying for uber would have been ($350). If you drive, you may want to consider renting a car. When my hubby arrived, we rented for about 8 days and it didn’t cost an arm and a leg considering the convenience.

In summary:
Dr fee: $3,500
Hospital: $2,600
Lab: $55
Birth certificate: $60
Passport: $107
Total: $6,262

Accommodation, feeding and transport will vary depending on where you decide to go as per city and if you have any help with any of them.

Good luck to all expecting mums and dads. God bless you all!

So i just learnt that Victoria dsnt embrace birth tourism.

@hotstepper is it safe to use brampton and Dr Abou/Ayodele? Both hospital and gynae are 2 hours from my brother's place.

Also does dr Abou still accept international patients? I saw his number in previous threads but not sure i have seen Dr. Ayodele's nos. Can u pls help out with this?

Eilenora:
Yea my bro stays there.

Seems most gynaes am seein are all affilliated wth victoria hosp whch appears to be on d high side in terms of cost.

$130 to $140 for first visit with Gyn
$300 per visit Hospital bill to be reviewed from April
$25 to $35 for follow up
$300 for ultrasounds
$5000 for normal delivery
$10,000 to 15,000 for C-Section

Yea hubby is in Nig. So he sends d Naira equivalent to my activ account? Will i still need his statement or mine alone? Then besides a sponsor letter what else will i need frm hubby?
