Update for international students currently outside Canada:

The Government of Canada recently announced an update to travel restriction exemptions. This change, which is scheduled to take effect Oct. 20, 2020, will allow UCalgary international students with a valid study permit or a study permit approval to enter Canada. UCalgary's COVID-19 readiness plan has been approved by the provincial government.

This update applies to all international students, regardless of where they are travelling from or when their study permit was approved.

Students should not make any travel plans until they have met all requirements and received all necessary authorizations. Details about what is required will be updated on the Government of Canada travel exemptions website on or before Oct. 20, 2020.

The Government of Canada requires all students, and any family members accompanying them, arriving from an international location to quarantine for 14 days and monitor themselves for symptoms. Students must confirm their arrival with the university and follow UCalgary’s quarantine process for students.

Dear Fanshawe student,

As you may already know, new travel restrictions will take effect on October 20, allowing international students to enter Canada if their designated learning institution (DLI) has an approved COVID-19 readiness plan in place approved by the government.


Fanshawe College has a comprehensive plan to welcome international students to Canada, including assistance for students with their quarantine plans and guidance in acquiring food and medication during the 14-day self-isolation period. The readiness plan outlines campus safety and protocols in the event of any COVID-19 cases at the school. The document was submitted to the provincial government on August 28 and is currently under review.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will continue to publish and update the list of approved DLIs. Fanshawe College expects to receive approval imminently and is ready to welcome when the approval is secured.

Students with study permits approved on or before March 18 will no longer be authorized to enter the country as of October 20 if their DLI is not on the IRCC list. Travellers should not make any travel plans until they have met all requirements and received all necessary authorizations.

We will continue to stay in touch, and will provide updates to international students and education agents as soon as they become available.

Dalhousie University

Dalhousie University is very pleased that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has revised border restrictions to welcome international students and their immediate family members to approved Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs), starting later this month. For detailed information, please refer to IRCC’s update on travel restriction exemptions for international students.

You are able to apply for your study permit and visa at any time, but Dalhousie must be included on the Approved DLI list before you will be able to travel to Canada. Currently, we are consulting with our provincial and federal government partners to ensure that we will be included on the Approved DLI list and anticipate that will happen in early to mid November. We will advise all Dalhousie international students when Dalhousie is included on the Approved DLI list.

UNBC their plan was approved and they expect to be on the list on the 20th. It's stated on the website online

Brock University Toronto is on the list. They got email from university confirming the news.

Humber
As you may be aware, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will release its list of the country’s colleges and universities that are classified as Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs).

Humber has submitted our application and expects to be added to the list in the near future. We have developed a comprehensive COVID-19 Readiness Plan, and are currently waiting for our provincial and federal Governments to approve the plan. We are ready to welcome you to Humber and to Toronto once their approval is received.

We are aware that study permit processing is being prioritized for students who have applied to institutions on the DLI list. Further, students who had been approved for a study permit prior to March 18 will no longer be authorized to enter Canada as of October 20 if their DLI is not on the list. IRCC has begun communicating this to affected students.

These are additional reasons why we are working closely with our governments to have Humber added to the DLI list as soon as possible. We expect that the DLI list will be updated on an ongoing basis and that Humber will be on it very soon.

We will continue to be in contact with international students and provide updates as they become available. Anyone from Nairobi processing office for a Masters or PGD programme receive BVL yet? I can see that TimAke is PHD and did not apply from Nigeria so not sure we can use his as a yardstick for ours or what do you guys think?

From this timeline it is safe to assume that the next thing for those that have received AIP and their gcms notes with everythng looking good is to expect BVL then PPR. Is there anything to worry about at this stage? I think I read somewhere in this thread way back that usually the sticker visas are affixed here in Nigeria right? Or do the passports go to Canada and return to Nigeria? Also, I have also seen somewhere that it is usually at this stage that our oversabi Nign guys start requesting for updated statements and all. What was the timeline pre-covid between PPR and when one gets his study permit? So the update on my cic portal has finally reflected medicals passed since July when I applied with upfront medicals. Sent the upteenth email and completed webform severally; the last of which was sent before I went to bed last night. Woke up to see the update. Thanks to everyone for their advise and input thus far. Now awaiting receipt of my notes. It is 30 days today but when I chatted them up yesterday they said I should wait another 10 days. Crazy stuff. This journey is definitely not for the faint hearted.
By the way do you guys know if these guys are attending to tourist visa applications at all? I want to put in an aplication for hubby so we can all go together to help me settle in and all.

So this is what Fanshawe sent to me regarding being able to come into Canada:

Hi there,

No Ontario College has a readiness plan approved yet but it is expected that we will by October 20th.


I can never guarantee what kind of experience that you will have at the border. For September, it is true that international students in online programs were turned away at the border and returned to their home country. But remember that during that time we had strict travel restrictions in place coming into Canada and only students in blended (partially in person) programs were deemed as “essential” travellers.



The announcement on Friday indicates that any international student can enter after October 20th if they are coming in for study purposes.
The travel support letter will help you at the border - you can show it to the airlines and immigration. It will confirm that you are registered and paid and have a reason to enter Canada.

What do you guys think especially since my program has been changed to online delivery. Wont they use this as opportunity to turn one back at the border? I resume Jan 2021, have AIP, medicals still yet to be updated despite several emails, reminders, webforms, etc. Applied for GCMS notes but yet to come out.

On July 14, 2020, I submitted my application for a study permit. I did an upfront medical examination and attached an e-medical information sheet evidencing same to my application.

On July 24, 2020, I received an email requesting that I undergo a medical examination. In response, I raised a web-form attaching the evidence sent to me by my Panel Physician (Q-life Family Clinic) confirming that my medical report had been forwarded to IRCC since June 25, 2020. I sent a number of follow up correspondence regarding this issue (see table towards the end of this email). In 2 responses from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), I was informed that the document I forwarded to them in respect of my upfront medicals had been received and forwarded to the Nairobi Office where my application was being treated. These responses alongside evidence of upfront medicals have been merged together as a single pdf document and attached to this email for easy reference purposes.

In spite of all of these, the status on my CIC account reads: “We did not receive the results of your required medical exam. Check your medical exam request message below for details”.

I wish to confirm if your good office is indeed in receipt of these documents which were forwarded severally within the 30 days window provided. If so, I humbly request that same be considered as part of my application and for my cic portal to be updated accordingly.

Many thanks for your anticipated resolution to this problem.

Besides the usual acknowledgement and confirmation, no update yet.

Please note that IRCC's responses say they have received and forwarded to Nairobi, but no confirmation from Nairobi and no update to passed on portal. Portal shows they did not receive my medicals.

I have every reason to be worried cos so many people on this portal had same problem and used same approach after which their portals have been updated.

What else should I do that I havent done already?

Me i still dey here dey wait o despite all advise from everyone in terms of emails, webforms, attaching e medical sheet, medical request form, etc.

I haf taya for these people. Long sigh!

You are coming to Fanshawe College.

I said most NOT ALL PGC are 8 months - 1 year and PGD usually 2 years. That was why I added a clause that school and program determines these things as well.

It does not mean you can’t have situations where there will be 2 years PGC. The school, program and degree type determines duration of these programs.

So back to your question, your program is a 24 months PGC as stated on your LOA. That’s fine.

What you selected on your IMM form is correct.
PGC = college certificate. You have nothing to worry about.how

What will appear on your certificate is Ontario College Graduate certificate.

I shared an image of how a fanshawe PGC certificate looks like about 3 pages back. All the best.

I am a bit unclear, my course says:

BMT1B - Business Management, London South
Start Date: January 04, 2021 End Date: August 31, 2022
Level: Graduate Certificate Program Status: Full-Time

As you can see, mine is a 2years programme but described as a graduate certificate on the offer letter which is contrary to your explanation of most 2 year courses being diplomas. What will my certificate say? I selected College Certificate on my IMM form not diploma. The options were: College certificate, college diploma and college applied degree.

Naijaforeigner:
PGC = College certificate

In Ontario, for most schools, usually 2 semesters (8 months). However, It also depends on school and program. Some PGC programs in Ontario are 3 semesters - 12 months duration (includes compulsory coop).

I think most 1 year programs in Quebec takes full 3 semesters (12 months).

Your certificate will state Ontario College Graduate certificate or Ontario College certificate depending on the school.

If you are going for PGC, on IMM form, you choose College certificate


PGD = College diploma. In ontario, it is Usually 2 years duration. You will end up with a certificate that says Ontario College Diploma or Ontario College Graduate diploma depending on the school.

If you are going for PGD, on IMM form, select College diploma

Applied degree is below PGC and PGD. Usually longer in duration depending on the school.
I think Applied degree is same level as Bachelors.

I applied for the notes August 23 before doing my biometrics on the 28th so it didnt reflect. Apparently it shows positive stage 1 eligibility.
An original passport correspondence was also shown in my notes but hasnt been sent probably because of Covid.
I think it's safe to say the AIP is genuine. I wish everyone success. Those waiting for AIP too, may you all receive it soon.

Yes was sent a medical request, but I did an upfront medical, I have sent multiple web forms and emails regarding it, but changed to we did not receive your medical results. I have reached out to the hospital and they confirmed that it has been sent. I don’t know what else to do.
