Which part of Lagos is world class? Quit saying nonsense.
OK, substitute "better than anything else you'll find in naija or West Africa", if you prefer.

mbatuku1:
YOu think that the Igbo living in Lagos came there for tourism?

They were attracted to Lagos because of the Nigeria's industries centrally located there, by virtue of it being Nigeria's capital.

Take away the industries, and see what becomes of it.
That is not the question being asked. It is either a slum, or it is not. If it is a slum. . . then it says a lot about the SE that people would leave it in large #s to move to a slum. Then again, this isn't true alone about Lagos. . . for some reason, Igbos don't seem to enjoy living in this SE zone. I wonder why. . .

Anyway, back to Delta. I guess we were last at this question:

PhysicsMHD:
Beaf, could you explain why Ejoor, Obiomah, and various other Urhobos keep up with this claim that the Olu of Warri, an Itsekiri king, was originally titled Olu of Itsekiri? I took it at face value originally, but after further reading, it's clear that the claim is patently false. So why do they persist with that claim? What's their basis? I just want to know as an outsider. Is it just political propaganda?
Politics › Re: Request For The Creation Of An Urhobo State by ektbear: 11:43pm On Apr 14, 2011
I prefer to keep these types of things on an individual level rather than state/ethnic one. It would be like a poor homeless man in the USA talking sh1t to some rich businessman from naija. Imagine that homeless dude saying, "My country is richer than yours, blahblah." Naija businessman will then ask, "Who born you?"

Honestly, I should have just ignored him rather than descending into filth. But I strongly, strongly dislike this dude for his shameless dishonesty coupled with arrogant stupidity. If I ever met him in real life, I'm sure he and I would fight real quick. . .

I'll restrain myself, though.

I used to feel bad when I saw pictures like that. Now I shall look at them, think of Beaf, and smile. Who said all men are equal? Some deserve to be oppressed, subjugated, and enslaved.

Heh. The insults have only hardened my heart.

Imagine, a man whose townsmen were hunted like animals and enslaved, a man whose only claim to fame is that he was born on a patch of land some dinosaurs died on millions of years ago thinks he is something. Smh.

May those who plunder and pollute your lands continue to do so. As they carted you away in ships to be sold as slaves, may they continue to ravage your land.

A fool that stumbles into luck and thinks that he made it himself. Smh.

More evidence of kerosene guzzling as a youth. You can keep lying and add Delta, Zimbabwe, and Kenya as places I claim that I am from. I'm proud of Ekiti State. That it is poor doesn't mean it is inferior. It certainly doesn't mean I am inferior. . . I'm likely a better man than you in every way.

Anyway, keep insulting my state. Insults are irrelevant, so long as you continue to pay tribute until all the resources are drained from your land.

Whenever I stay in Lagos, I stay over my uncle's house on Victoria Island.

However, who would want to Lagos. Overcrowded and dirty city. There is a reason why they call it a SLUM CITY. I don't know which city is dirtier, New Delhi or Lagos.  grin
If you stay in your uncle's house in VI, then how are so familiar with the slums? Similarly, how are you familiar with the slums of Delhi?

There is a basic contradiction. . . if you claim it is a slum, then you indict your own SE zone. . . a place so bad that people abandon it in large #s to move to a slum city

That's easier said than done. Based on the kind of claiming that was going on after the Warri crisis, I doubt that it wouldn't be hard to partition the city.

See here for example:

http://www.waado.org/Warri/Obiomah.html

There are many more articles full of claims and counter claims about Warri.
That looks like a mess. Smh. Yeah I dunno. . . almost on an Israeli level of messiness

Lagos has its slums, but it also has its world-class parts. Just because you cannot afford to spend time in the nice parts and can only stay in the slums doesn't mean the city itself is bad

Get your weight up and you too can live in uptown

PhysicsMHD:
Population is the basis for a state because not every one of Nigeria's many distinct ethnic groups can just be accorded their own state merely for being distinct. There has to be an actual reason/problem. Until the Itsekiri start being actually marginalized it would just be division for the sake of division.
I do agree that "division for the sake of division" is bad. So no need to divide anything up unless someone is asking for it and it is necessary. My point is that Itsekiriland is still a viable state within the Nigerian context despite its small population.

Warri is pretty big though. Didn't Beaf say the Urhobo have 80% of Warri? I don't know if the Ijaw and Itsekiri would agree with that Urhobo figure. They might have Itsekiri and Ijaw estimates for the amount of Warri that each group occupies.
So yeah, you'd need an accurate census, documentation of who owned what historically, etc. But once you have that, shouldn't be hard to partition the city.

Also, I'm sure there are probably a few other ethnic "border" areas where things could get heated.
None are nearly as economically important as Warri, so shouldn't be deal-breakers.

It is. I don't really understand the division among the leaders, but I bet that if it was put to a vote today, deciding by a referendum among the actual people would easily favor the creation of Anioma state with or without any guarantees of power for this or that Igbo sub-group.
Probably true.

The point of this thread is not to embarrass/shame/ridicule Calabar folk or Akwa Ibom State. It is a problem we will need to collectively solve as Nigerians. Makes no sense to inject tribalism/sectarianism into something like this. Doing that will only lead to failure.

Heh, you are as pessimistic as I am.
Politics › Re: Nigerian "Rigging Rights Movement" Click To Watch "Rosa Parks"!! by ektbear: 9:01pm On Apr 14, 2011
Rosa Parks?

Is Nigeria filled with courageous African Americans, or cowardly, craven, bootlicking Nigerians? People you can slap in the face and they'll do nothing but ask for more?

Which Rosa Parks moment are you talking about, that will happen in this embarrassment of a country?

Stop fooling yourself.

Don't mind the "nattering nabobs of negativity". They have an evil eye and an envious and bitter heart, so they cannot see anything good. For example, the various textile manufacturing plants in the north, that the likes of Buhari and Babangida killed; are being resuscitated. Kaduna Textiles is a case in point.
Sounds like fool's gold to me. Industry won't be functional in naija until electricity and road networks are fixed.

^Then you 'd better head for the US border because the Foreign Reserves of the USA (where you live) as large as their economy is; is only just $133bn; while China's is $2850bn. Do you wonder that China has the USA in a vise grip economically. And BTW, Nigeria has a much better Balance of Trade than the USA.
The rules for the US are different, since their currency is the de facto standard. They can get away with things that no one else can. Comparing naija to brazil, saudi, venezuela, norway and other countries might be a more useful comparison.
